    @winters : The latest version is sound only @mantez: I don't care who uses what mod as long as there are no comparisions. FDF != Chammy != ModWarSound Three different styles, three different tastes and I see ppl posting on all three threads commenting on the good work. It's nice to have some pleased customers, but I need more feedback for improvements. The thing that actually worries me is the user-created-custom-soundmod from all three packs. This is not permitted, supported and fair. I know some guys changing the sounds to their liking and some even post errors on those boards, because something is not right. Another issue I can't cope with are the analphabets. Not reading the first post, or even the readme, asking obvious questions and such. I might look down from my highground right now, but the first things I do when trying a new addon/mod is reading. Most people don't read the manual for their new car and after several years find out they got direction indicators / turn lights

    Since Chammy and I colaborate on some level it is nothing serious, but could you PLEASE post in the chammy topic if you like to comment on his soundpack? I use this thread as a feedback source for MY project and can't read your mind which soundmod you are referring to. Thanks. Chammy and I try to create two tastes but there are two threads for some purpose...

    @ArmAVidz: With thinner tracers this would look perfect, but I encountered some problems with that. You could at least use some decent weapons sounds in those videos Go into the cent_tracer_fired.sqs and change the tracer size to 0.03 for small arms and 0.05 for MBT weapons.

    The current problem is the particle system. If the tracers are correct in size, only the shooter and bystanders really close to the muzzle will see the tracers. You can clearly see single particles drop now and then. Increasing the thickness will give you the dreaded light sabre and we don't have any permission from Lucas Arts Ltd So what we actually need is some model for the tracer, a lengthend line. There is still much to do, but I have no doubt sickboy will work this out. If performance and look are top notch, the config changes I made will give specific tracer ratios and sizes to each type of ammunition, so the script can use those values instead of user generated values. It's all about realism after all

    It is a waste of time to add tracer WIP to a config mod as long as there are performance drops and somesuch issues. And starting a config mod before 1.08 has been released is waste of time, too. The whole cfg stuff is dependand on the vanilla config, so I can't predict changes to the config classes. With 500+ fixes/changes, I bet there are new things to consider.

    The new value was build on my crap. I gave sickboy the red pill and showed him the real world. It's true that tracers do burn from muzzle to walhalla, but the brightness increases and is at it's peak several meters away. However, in ArmA they should burn from muzzle to impact (and beyond) for several reasons: They do burn all the way, the shooter can adjust fire from hip firing position and it just looks real. I am currently messing around in the config, so the ammo can have specific tracer ratios and even colors and sizes. Pink tracers anyone?
  10. This is essential for sound packs with realism or authenticity in the title. Just being a former soldier does not mean anything it seems, Chammy and I go to the range to make it sound right. Chammy, however, lives on the west coast, I live in old europe, would be great if all sound modders could rent a range and shoot all those weapons But the equipment is expensive...really expensive ( and I don't talk about the weapons)

    You guys should learn reading...everything is mentioned in the readme and it is not that difficult at all. Extract to ArmA main folder, add shortcut extension, launch. It is amusing how people try everything to launch a mod Anyway, the 1.08 version will be released after the patch, don't want to hotfix anything because BIS changed the configs. If there is something you think should be changed, let me know.

    Sorry to proof you wrong Balschoiw... I experimented with that exact question. I own a handgun, a Mk23 to be precise. I also own a precision rifle, but this is another issue. If the bullet leaves the muzzle, it hits "dirty", uncanalized air, causing air turbolences and reducing the aerodynamic coefficient. Of course air has less density than lead/copper, but the air is a major factor. Air friction and aerodynamics are the reason, why many racing teams invest millions for development of bodyparts. To come back to the experiment: Firing without flash suppressor, gun resting on a support, I achieve tight groups on 25 m. With the flash suppressor, the air in front of the barrel is not just pushed aside, it is pressed through the prongs and starts to rotate and produce torque (and as a side effect in this case, the barrel won't rise as much). The groups are now pretty much the same hole, slightly larger. The same effect can be achieved with some sound/flash suppressors, depending on their construction. P.S: I can't say if this is true for military issued rifles/guns. The crown of a sniper rifle is not really considered a flash hider oder functions as an air canalizer, it is mostly for ptotecting the rifling and muzzle.

    I will work on the vehicle sounds in the future. I have to check the volumes of most of the sounds anyway. @stingfish: Increasing the volume of the sound itself will create clipping and poor sound quality.
  14. I already told him weeks ago, he can use my config. Chammy is too old to remember But there might be two seperate sound mods. That way the user has the choice. As already stated several times, we both have different opinions but the same goal. It's easier to stick to the current project and see how far it can go. We still work closely together, exchange samples, suggest samples etc, we'll still share our files and this is the best way to support the community with top notch modifications for different preferences.

    It's a know issue in v0.154 Don't know when the next version will be released, I'd like to have more sounds to implement, but I don't have any.

    Use the Init Game Logic and place a trigger with {d=[_x, 3, 1, 1, 1] spawn CENT_tracer} forEach thislist trigger must include every unit you want to have tracers, activated by anybody.

    Well, for the size of the mod there is not much fancy included. The tank stuff is not really user friendly, but I am no tanker. The ghillie suits are nice, but I'd like them more authentic in color. You can only hide in grass with them but on distance, they stick out like living trees. Sahrani has more deserted hills, so some brown/dark green/tan colored burlaps won't hurt. The sounds are poor, the only nice feature is the T-72 autoloader and radio chatter, which is hardly important. Sounds are too loud, you can hear tanks reloading a mile away, the vanilla tracers are still there and centipedes tracers work for tank cannons.

    Why so complicated, there is an option to simply disable tracers for all small arms... All you have to do is read the documentation and you have all the options you could need.

    Launch the editor, place a unit, select game logic instead and place the "tracer auto add" logic from the "cent_tracer" selection. Nothing fancy, really.

    Check if you use MG only option. This is a bug BIS is responsible for, M24 uses "grunt" 7.62x51mm rounds instead of no tracer match grade ammunition. If you enable the mg only option (3rd number has to be 0), only support weapons and vehicle weapons will have tracers.

    @INNOCENT&CLUELESS : What is this poll supposed to be? Either write a neutral question or delete this thing. This is childish, really, what do WW2 tanks have to do with ArmA? We are talking about modern combat and even russian tank crews knew how valuable their optics were. North Sarahni is not even russian at all, just with eastern weaponry. this thread was closed once because of such behaviour, so what's your problem anyway? I'd like to discuss this matter maturely.

    Updated the first post with the final 1.15 and simple instructions inside. And please keep this thread clean, edit your former posts and try to avoid double posting, you can always edit a old reply at anytime. If possible check the thread for double postings, edit the first of the two and report the old to a mod, so he can delete them, this will save some space and won't get the readers irritated.
