Plane attempting emergency landing in UK

No...dump and burn involves dumping fuel (on the F-111 this is done between the engines) and then setting the jetissoned fuel alight using the afterburner, after the fuel has left the aircraft. As ozanzac said, only the F-111 can do this because of the unique location of the fuel dump nozzle between the engines. Unlike afterburner, the dump and burn does not provide any extra thrust.

60 years ago - The Battle Of Iowa Jima

Reenactment, to be accurate. Same story behind this photo: Taken April 30 1945 over the Reichstag, but the flag had been up a few days before.

    Lock on: modern air combat

Heh that A-10C link is pretty cool. I remember hearing talk about the A-10 being obsolete and about to be phased out in favour of unmanned drones from pretty senior USAF officers. Then again the RAF said the same about manned planes in favour of SAM's which almost killed the lightning. Then they said it would be replaced by more F-16's. It struck me then, and still does now, how much it looks like the USAAF idiotic post war strategy of replacing P-47's with P-51's. The pro's and con's are identical. The F-16, like the gorgious mustang, was more prone to battle damage then the plane it was thought to replace. The mustang had a single oil cooled inline V engine. Shoot the cooling system and it dies, hit the engine and it croaks. You can shoot cylinders of a thunderbolt and its engine will run. The thing is a flying tank. Same with the F-16, its single engine will meet its maker once its hit and then you basically a pretty poor glider. (though not as bad as the F-104 starfighter but thats another bunch of stories.) The A-10 has seperated (physically) engines which apparently even have some sort of armored plating though that may be more boastfullness knowing the person who told me of its existance Also the F-16 like the thunderbolt was too fast and too much of a anti air fighter to full fill the invisioned role. Sometimes lessons from the past are learned!? Glad those ideas are out of mind IMHO, the big mistake was to cancel the Night/Adverse Weather A-10B. http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/research/attack/a6/a6-19.htm

Man, you really are bitter about that Su-25T huh? Look on the bright side, the A-10C just made it's first flight last month, You might eventually see it . Anyways, I have a new CPU, 2.6 Gig, but insufficient RAM right now (256mb), and little cash to spare as I am going through the closest thing to a divorce I ever want to experience . So I probably won't be getting this or any other game for a while

World Car of the Year 2005

Seen their new commercials here lately? They are trying to use the fact that not many people here drive Saabs to make them seem like an original and exotic choice. "Saab, the state of independence" *chuckle* "We don't sell many of these....so if you buy one, you'll be cool and original!"

    The north korea thread

In large part because every government in the book was alike and every power was interested in prolonging the wars between each other. Such governments thrive off external hostility towards them. If you can scare your population enough from external enemies, your population will accept pretty much anything in order to feel safe. In fact, if they feel threatened, they will want an agressive and strong leader above all. Now as soon as these supposed "enemies" manage to show themselves as human, and non hostile, to the regular population, the State's propaganda will start looking shallow. People will begin questioning things, and with enough trade and interaction, will get a tantalizing taste of what life is like in other parts of the world. The government will either need to reform, or will be naming an increasing number of people "Enemies of the People"....and there's only so far you can go with that, before you start a revolt or civil war. Right guy, wrong book

The majority of the military, along with the majority of the people, are brainwashed, but you have to remember that in their ideology everything they do is for the good of "The People". If it ever becomes apparent that the majority of "The People" are against the system, these sentiments will inevitably infect the military as well. As Orwell wrote: "If there was hope, it must lie in the proles because only there, in those swarming disregarded masses, 85 percent of the population of Oceania, could the force to destroy the Party ever be generated. ... But the proles, if only they could somehow become conscious of their own strength, would have no need to conspire. They needed only to rise up and shake themselves like a horse shaking off flies. If they chose they could blow the Party to pieces tomorrow morning. Surely sooner or later it must occur to them to do it?"

And of course....all the members of the military will not care what happens to the regular people of their country....right?

    Zombie Combat Games

yeah, the trick is to surround the zombies with nukes. Pretty hard depending on where different clusters of zombies appear at first, best case scenario is if they all appear in one side of the city. When that's happened I've managed to do it with around 500 deaths (though I guess I was luckier then becauser now the best i can do is around 1200 deaths)
