I mean I speak three languages, and I can pretty often descipher written phrases in languages I don't even know by looking at them and comparing the sound/grammar to the ones I know, It's how I desciphered the message at the end of OFP, right after the "group photo" scene...it uses a different alphabet but when I sounded it out it was very close to Russian, if I'm not mistaken it goes along the lines of "Dedicated to those that died so that we may live"... but that damn "l337" has me stumped

    Any advice?

Something I forgot to mention earlier....If you're playing in a dark indoor maze, a one-use camera with flash can serve as a pretty effective flashbang  Lol I still remember, 4 of us pinned at a bunker across the other team's position, I realized that I had this camera in my pocket, lifted it to the window, yelled "SAY CHEESE" and *click*...The oposite team's fire stopped for a second, we heard "What the F$%?!?" and then it picked up again. Too bad I was laughing too hard to take advantage of the situation

Is flashpoint a recruiting tool ?

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (morbid @ April 04 2002,02:45)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">If anything, flashpoint  would probably discourage people from joining the army, after all it shows how easily and senselessly you can be kill - a stray bullet that wasn't meant for you....a shell wiping out your whole squad before you even fire a shot....<span id='postcolor'> Right, personally I think Flashpoint shows how unpleasant war can be. At first when I started playing this game I was very frustrated by the lack of saves, then I realized that was part of it's beauty. It puts the fear of death in you. In real life once you get hit by a burst of gunfire or are blown appart by a grenade you don't get a second chance. I think I died on most if not every combat mission the first time I went through the original campaign...what does that say about the chances of survival for your average green recruit on the battlefield? . Then again, it does glorify war somewhat, but hey I can't blame BIS for that, after all it's a game, and it's meant to be enjoyable. At least it portays war much better than your average Hollywood movie. But if you really want to know how it is, if you're interested in getting into it, read some books about it (My fave book on the subject is Catch-22 by Joseph Heller...it's satirical and not all that realistic but it does highlight the absurdities of war) or better yet talk to some vets if you know them. My grandfather from my mother's side was in the Soviet army in WWII. He never talked to me much about it, but he did tell me how his back was wounded...one of his friends walking behind him while on patrol stepped on a landmine. That's all it takes, a step taken in the wrong spot and one life is gone and another left in pain for life.

I don't think you can judge soviet tactics by how Iraq employed them...for example I'm fairly sure it wasn't part of the Soviet tactics playbook for half their pilots take their aircraft and run like hell with them to Iran as soon as the airwar got underway. Ive read  Western experts opinions that the Iraqi pilots were about the most incompetent bunch of people you could put in a cockpit, and I have a feeling that would apply to some extent to the rest of the armed forces. *edit* None of these countries really followed the Soviet playbook, I remember seeing a doccumentary about the 1973 war...the Arab tank forces were beating the Israelis but they were so surprized by their early success and quick advance, that they decided not to "overextend" and gave the Israelis time to regroup, and the momentum changed. If you look at how the Soviets beat the Germans in WWII, they did it by advancing as much as possible, as fast as possible. This shows in that Western commanders were rated by the percentage of enemy forces they destroyed, whereas Soviet commanders were rated by how much ground they gained.
