All the posts I ever see from you, are you moaning about the game, if you don't like it, why are you here? I just noticed his profile; 100 posts and he just joined in Jan 2007! Like HELLO! i'm 2001 and only up to barely 70. Obviously can't shut up! Â I bought ArmA at Gameplay for 21.99 pre-order, so what? All games go for discount some where on the web. It's called marketing

Now that is sad.... missing out on OFP (Upon release) is like going from B&W TV to colour! One of those moments that you'll never forget. That said; Away and buy the GOTY edition of OFP and get playing! It's not like the gameplay or world has aged, because it hasn't. Still, there's not a game out there that can touch it. ArmA looks good but isn't a patch on the mission design nor feel that OFP gives you of being in a full-scale battle or secret OPS mission. Sheer bliss!

Ok i posted this in 'General' and it's died a death over there, so if a mod would please delete it. Thankyou I had bad,bad texture loading probs with Oblivion when the game started to 'sprout' Oblivion Gates all over the land! My game would stutter and then crash! I found out that MS suggest a 'Clean Boot' to reduce the intensive background progs that run -sometimes needlessly and reduce the page file size. The page file get's huge on todays machines due to so many processes running; V.Scanner, spy ware progs etc, etc. This amounts to a lot of background processes hogging RAM and most notably, the CPU. Clean Boot works a treat with ArmA and any game that's massively intensive (for me any way, you have nothing to lose by trying it) So without further ado; I would suggest disconnecting yourself from the net (put your modem in stand by or pull out your router plug) as it may disable your firewall etc. Or follow 'The computer is connected to the Internet' part of the Clean Boot method. Anyway, here's what to do: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796 Note You may experience a temporary loss of some services functionality when you follow these steps. Restoring the settings restores the functionality. 1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK. 2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup. 3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check boxes: • Process SYSTEM.INI File • Process WIN.INI File • Load Startup Items 4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All. 5. Click OK, and then click Restart. To resort back to your 'normal' machine just select 'Normal Startup' at the top and presto! your machine is as it was. See how you get on? Oh and if a mod would make this a sticky it would be cool since it is officialy from MS

Excellent positive post there Fred DM, Spoken like a true OFP veteran! The 'escape & evade' mission was crazy!! Use the stars to navigate; remember that? I was still running in my sleep for weeks after that mission! Yes ArmA appears to have half the AI 'brain' that OFP had... One other mission i used to replay, over and over, was 'Bomber Man'. Yes OFP appears to have broke the mould...Come on BIS get this baby what it should be!

The main thing is that Tracer is fun! It adds immersion and is realistic. Even 'Hidden and Dangerous 2' had superb tracer richochets that made your jaw drop! B-17 2 The Mighty Eighth and good old PAW had them Just make them beefier for gameplay sake in ArmA, that's all i want.

So i take it you've pre-ordered Silent Hunter 4 I have, the 'Deluxe only 3,000 made' edition OFP had a better 'dynamic' feel to it's campaign than ArmA -which is strange You felt more part of a huge immersive world that you could replay dozens of times and never repeat the same tactics in. You can set 'chances of appearing' in the editor and many other variables -that i've read about and never done since OFP came out that very first day. That will make the missions dynamic as you want. It's a huge beast is the editor and scripting. ArmA also feels very 'untidy', it's not as polished as OFP either? Units run around like headless chickens! It's like 10ft forward and 50ft back when you follow a commander? The potential is there, but is it fixable in a patch or more likely and addon.....is the question

Try a 'CLean Boot' if you have performance issues
Tracer replied to Tracer's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thankyou Desertfox -at last someone sees what this is about People are getting confused with simple running processes  that you close manualy (when you press Alt+Ctrl+Del and close them or use EndItall2) Sorry guys your way,way off! As Desertfox has said, read the knowledge base properly and give it a go if you find games sluggish etc. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796 -
This is how tracer should look like in ArmA! Especialy the M134 Gatling Machine Gun (7.62mm minigun) on the blackhawk! Notice barely a delay from the firing to impact, unlike in the game.

Tracer replied to Tracer's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yes but the idea is to put something (Clean Boot) that's officialy supported by MS and is also for diagnosing problems or conflicts as well as freeing up a much larger pagefile than EnditAll2. Edintall2 doesn't do that as it doesn't go anywhere near as deep as Msconfig and only closes 'running processes' Msconfig (Clean Boot) kills deeper and of course processes can be killed permanently, just like Enditall2 Remember this is for everyone to try and not feel like they will knacker their machine since it's MS endorsed, unlike Enditall2 which hits those that are not sure with a nice little disclaimer hardly installs confidence for the average 'joe' does it? -
It's nothing at all to do with graphics for PC games sake! (What a lame excuse) Graphics are for realism -oh look not a blade of grass in OFP. Last i looked when i lay down on the ground was i couldn't see much because of real GRASS and PLANTS!! Those that moan about the graphics can't actualy admit that their machine can't utilise them.....:whi: So they blame the software.... As for your comments about the flight models...lol get real! Here's a tip; go to an airshow and actualy fly a helicopter simulator or jet sim that the base uses for it's own pilots (it will cost you quite a bit mind and generaly on exclusive visitor packages -not talking the rubbish that the masses pay pennies for Lol) and you'll be in for a real eye-opener!!
-
You can't possibly shut down all non-essential processes unless you do what i posted and that's the 'Clean Boot' method (look for it below these posts; i've asked for it to be 'stickied' The idea of the clean boot is to either diagnose or remove progs that cause conflicts with intensive games. So for example you 'Clean Boot' the game works perfect! Soooo then you start adding progs back in to find out what causes the conflict that causes a crash. Either that or you just drag a msconfig shortcut to the desktop and just run your games by that method. I do!

But ofp's single player campaign was so great. ps. I don't play multiplayer game. I too never bought OFP for MP, OFP had a fantastic SP campaign -hence why they released 'Red Hammer' and 'Resistance'. The SP AI in OFP was quite a bit more inteligent than most online gamers! Like when have you played a military sim and had a bunch of kids that knew how to flank or correctly use terrain etc? I tried OFP just a couple of times online and it was a joke! Idiots running off shooting wildly and bailing out of helicopters before you got to the LZ.. Pointless. Most gamers that bought OFP learned their first true meaning of 'military tactics' when they played the SP and found themselves dead within minutes and didn't know why. Shouting "WTF rubbish is this!" The SP Campaign in ArmA is harder than OFP by quite a bit! The realistic terrain, lighting, grass and shadows makes it a true PC soldier experience short of joining the army! Of course if you turn all the above down or off then it becomes easier to see movement and locate the enemy -but then so it should if you just produced a virtual chainsaw to 400Km of vegetation!!!!!
-
Just seen the Feb issue of PCGamer (or was it Format?) and it stated both SP and MP demos of ArmA in it.

Ever since the heady days of OFP, the tracers have been probably the weakest part of the whole game immersion-wise. (in fact, i'm sure i commented on it away back in '02?) When i played the GRAW demo (forget the gameplay or whatever doesn't float your boat about it) The fire-fights are the best in any game period! The tracer effects are brilliant, the way they pass through trees and rip chunks out of walls etc. We've had enough TV/Cable coverage of Iraq for over a decade to show what heavy calibre tracer does and looks like when fired both night and day. Shame that BIS missed that opportunity to completely blow the gamer away!

EDIT: Sorted with reinstall and V Scanner turned off.

No Texture on rifle, Impossible to play Campaign
Tracer replied to Tracer's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Ok i reinstalled and it worked! I have to agree with some of the comments though, it's not the first time a texture or weapon has disappeared when i've looted a corpse for eg. Thing is, i absolutely adore BIS for breaking the mould with OFP and all the addons -i've even got the original CD that the OFP demo was released on! No company has even got near to what OFP encompassed!!! Thing is Codemasters were a big publisher and we don't know What exactly happened with the financial side of things between them. What we do know is that BIS are one of the best supporters out there of their products! (OFP wasn't exactly rock solid upon release \ but boy did BIS turn it into a real beaut through patches! It may have sold 1.5 million copies but just exactly how much of that went to Codies??? Now that i've said that BIS, don't let me down! So we have a rough diamond (in ArmA) with a lot of potential. Let's give BIS a chance to iron out the probs and see if they can turn ArmA into the best thing since....well OFP Â -
As Mister Frag says; Just press the V key and then zoom it in a small amount, you can see were your driving quite easily. No big deal

Otherwise you would be looking at whatever BIS define as a border box around the map edges So the Desert Island is a small map -just make the box bigger with more sea

If bis made an official ofp editing manual..
Tracer posted a topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Right, Doom started the ball rolling with a huge amount of manuals covering all aspects of making levels and inc mods etc I personaly think i have one of the best released for Doom; Hank Leukart - The Doom Hackers Guide which inc just about *all* editors released for Doom and mods on a CD as well as a 300page book released 1995. Now i personaly think that OFP is crying out for an official book(s) covering simple/complex example tutorials on most of the editors functions? I'm sick to the back teeth of printing hundreds of pages from websites -downloading and burning examples/tuts on CDs, when i really want a HANDY manual to cross reference at my leisure  I'm not bothered if the manual had to come out in several volumes, because OFPs Editor has such power that it would be a worthy investment. I have been working for a while away from home and come back to to do some editing and find that i have forgotten a helluva lot and making *mistakes* with correct strings etc. I have had to wade through all my OFP stuff to get started again...........and it aint fun  So i personaly think it's about time that BIS produced a manual(s) Please vote Tracer -

It's 'buy' or 'download/trawl the web' It don't get much clearer than that -*considering* that is the ONLY 2 options that the gamer has! Correct? Or is it because you want us to pay for your unoffical book I think i would be seeing my lawyers first, considering that a high percentage of the OFP public have submitted material that they *own*! That would make them elligible for a part of any profits YOU make Anyway,I DON'T want to print out reams of paper full of mistakes *unless* they are proof read/tested first (i am sick of downloading scripts/advanced tuts, then buring them to CD, only to find that the person A)can't spell or B)Hasn't tested it properly. AAAAAAAAAAAARGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! That is why i WANT an Official Editing Manual that does what it says on the box -
