ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead & Reinforcements, version 1.59 - Patch released
teach replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
For me, I love this update, but one needs to dial down the ingame AA setting because, I think, the new updates uses AToC which can make trees and grass look fuzzy or snowy on Nvidia card unless you incrementally dial down the AA setting. -
Well, after playing this for an hour or more doing everything right in the Manhatten mission, I finally get to the last task and located the main Chedaki base! Just as Im starting to attack and am told to wait for reinforcements, my game crashes and my save game...the autosave...is somehow corrupted. Id hate to do the whole mission over. I know I can use the cheat to unlock the campaign so I can just move on, but doesnt that somehow mess me up if I load the next mission and cant save it or advance in the whole campaign from a cheat unlocked mission?
-
Quick question but with 1.09 being recently released, it is better to play it and say Red Harvest using 1.09 or via CO and 1.58? 1.09 is newer than the 1.58 CO is it not? It seems as though Arma2 1.09 has many campaign and or mission fixes and Im in the middle of Harvest Red. Thanks.

Thanks. Dunno. I could try the Beta yes. Maybe Ill do that but Im a little hesitant to play it if newer versions would make it incompatible with saves etc.

My thoughts precisely!! The biggest issue with this series. I would stop all development until the AI is tweaked to hell.

[7*] Make better AI They sometimes "stuck". So I standing beside to the enemy when he lying and he just standing and looking. What about to make them more inteligent? It really kills the immersion factor when an AI squad is being fired on at range by say a tank or anything else for that matter and they dont: A) Find some cover B) Take evasive maneuvers C) HIDE Sometimes they will just run around into the kill zone or stand around when their squad is getting shot to heck.

Realistic Armor Fights and Penetration.
teach replied to Bazul14's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
As a long time game supporter...I own all versions and addons since Arma1, and as a frequent tanker, this is something I am practically begging BIS to fix and make as realistic as possible. Of all the proposals, I liked the idea someone mentioned that table top games used of having a random set of results used rather than all of the math calculations bogging down the CPU even further (even though the later is preferred IMO in terms of realism). Please BIS, update the armor damage model. -

Well, I would spend the money. The GTX285 is a very nice card but, if you sell it and apply that money towards the purchase of a next gen 560Ti, not only will you be DX11 ready, but the card itself will allow you to turn up more of the bells and whistles for this game AND still get a FPS increase. The 560ti is getting rave reviews in terms of performance of course but also because of the value. $250US for the MSI Twin Frozer on Newegg..com is excellent. I got the EVGA card which isnt as pretty looking but got the superclocked version. And Ive already slightl overclocked it as well. Go to Youtube and watch some great reviews on this card. Frankly, if you bought one 560Ti then got another for SLI down the road, dunno....against a single 580...not a bad rig. -

I have the GTX560Ti. -
Make sure you set VIDEO MEMORY in the game to DEFAULT and THEN play with the TEXTURES setting. Anything other than VIDEO MEMORY: DEFAULT and my textures wash out and look crappy on mt GTX560TI 1GB DDR5 card. Move it to that setting, leave it there, then adjust the textures setting from medium all the way up to very high if you system can handle it.

I am using an overclocked QX6850 quad upped to 3.33 Ghz. I havent benchmarked it yet so anecdotally Id say I got maybe 20 or so FPS, maybe more. I also went from playing in 1680x1050 to 1920x1080 AND I am now able to max everything out to Very high and increase the view distance. This card is a beast and all the "swimmy cursor" feeling is long gone. It just carves this game up. -

I got the EVGA GTX560ti 1GB DDR5 and Im loving it for Arma2 OA! Very sweet upgrade for me from my EVGA GTX275 868DDR3 card. Vid Mem is set to default for best performance on textures. Everything else at V High...AA at max....1920-1080 rez.....Post Proc disabled...v sync enabled...HDR normal. Smooth. -
I bought PMC pack because of BIS support on these forums.
teach posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
To be honest, I didn't buy the PMC pack when it first came out because I wasn't that interested in it. I just bought it via Steam for $9.99 solely because of the amount of communication and support shown here by BIS. BIS is constantly patching this game and engaging in daily responses with gamers as we all know. I'm 43 and in all of my years or gaming, I haven't seen such continued dedication to a game by its devs. Aside from ARMA 1 (which I bought) I now own all of ARMA2 and its available packs (BAF, PMC, and of course the wonderful OA). I encourage everyone else to do the same. Keep improving gameplay BIS. It is very much appreciated. Regards, OverwatchX -
Every time I remote control the BH in this game mode then land, My controls are frozen. While I can shoot and zoom my gun, and use the scroll wheel, I cant move my soldiers at all. Fix headbug doesnt work. If I respawn after that, same thing. Frozen in place.

Was playing Insurgency .70 multiplayer and twice when I swam a stream, I was stripped of all gear about mid way through. Same thing happened to another player on my team right behind me.

My 2 cents...probably posted already. In A2OP, I wish the AI would take evasive action when fired upon. You can shoot at their position lets say with a tanks MG all day long and they will just lay there until they finally get shot. Why not run elsewhere for cover? Also, does the AI render first aid and or drag and carry their teammates to cover. Id like to see that instead of them just dying outright.

What is the best or recommended NVIDIA driver version for this game using Win7 ULT 64 8GB RAM and an GTX275 card? Thanks

First off, I really like this game. I've been playing BIS games since OFP1. However, isnt it time they get rid of the onscreen crosshair for first person view? I mean, you can use this thing all day long to make well aimed shots...shots even over distance; shots that should require the basic principles of marksman ship such as breath, posture, and aiming using a sight picture. One should be forced to use the actual iron sights or optics to do that. Having an onscreen reticle is absolutely ridiculous no matter how you argue or defend it. Some will say that it is there to translate a "feel" of the gun's aim to a player to overcome the loss of a 2d representation of a computer game played on a keyboard and mouse. However, this can be still achieved without the crosshair as proven in another of my favorite games, Project Reality. But more than that, one can still get a "feel" for aiming center w/o a crosshair just by knowing the rounds will hit near the center of the screen (unless you are looking elsewhere - but why would you shoot then?). Doesnt that accomplish the same thing? But, even if you all at BIS were really "married" to the (Id say very wrong and very arcade) on screen reticle (which lessens immersion), then why not change it to something like a big circle that expands and contracts based on fatigue, health, etc? That way, one still gets that "feel" that you all are aiming for (no pun intended) and will satisfy those that will argue why its there. This will also prevent players from making aimed shots at distance without using any sights; any real shooting mechanics. Honestly though, the circle idea would still suck...Im just looking for a compromise. BIS, its time for some soul searching here and new discussions in my humble opinion. This has to be reconsidered. There is no way a fine game like this can defend putting a reticle on screen like it is. A reticle that even looks like iron sights no less. There is no way one should be able to right click, zoom, hold breath, and make an aimed shot while not using the real weapon sights (and thereby being affected by a loss of periphreal vision too - see realism). I hope there are more diehard realism players out there who think, "You know what...its time to lose this". I hope BIS reconsiders and actually removes it from this fine game. Not to spam here, but for anyone thats actually played Project Reality (a mod for Battlefield 2), the game plays just great WITHOUT an onscreen, cheesy, crosshair. You actually have to take a second to get behind your sights for an aimed shot...a second you may or may not have....and therein lies added realism for a game that prides itself as having a ton of. And I know some people will troll in here and yell realism means this and that and wearing pain vests to translate the feeling of getting shot to the player (Ive read them before) so lets keep our feet planted in reality okay. I know the limitiations and sacrifices made for games....this just isnt one of them that needs to be made. And I know there will be others who will troll in and say, let BIS fix the game first (which I happen to agree with). So, Im asking anyone who wants or cares to comment (if there is anyone out there) to please keep this on topic and refrain from flames, or posts about patches first, or go play somewhere else. I dropped 50 bucks on this game so I think I can ask a question. I just dont see a place for an onscreen reticle in this sort of infantry sim. Do you?
-
I guess this is more of a question to BIS or someone really in the know but would or could the ARMA2 engine benefit from incorporating Nvidias CUDA technology into the overall processing power? CUDA is supposed to allowed the GPU to participate in processing efforts WITH the CPU I think. And since this game is so CPU dependant, maybe it could help.

Really? A crosshair for a "realistic" sim?
teach replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
You can still get that sense of aiming from the hip without the crosshair by getting a sense for where the bullets will strike using a little practice and understanding of what you are looking at and where the center of the screen is I think. So, the point of the crosshair in this type of sim is off putting and out of place to me. Yes, it can be turned off in the options. The larger point I was trying to make and what some are talking about is why it is there in the first place for a sim with this design scope, why it is ON by default, and maybe even the larger issue, does it allow players to cheat by using it instead of forcing them to use the sights and thus lose some field of view during a battle. Id love to mock up a photo of a real soldier in Iraq making an aimed shot at 300 yards without using his sights and holding his breath (as if he was using this crosshair). It would be utterly laughable and downright impossible. Yet there are many people here who argue for it like its some sort of security blanket or pacifier. Theres got to be some ArmA players who have played some of the Operation Flashpoint mod for Battlefield2 (www.realitymod.com). That group was bold enought to actually remove that crosshair from the game in their mod and the game is much better for it. Players can still make snap shots not using sights and can still fire full or semi auto at close range without a crosshair and or sights accurately. But...BUT....when one wants to make an aimed shot.....one gets behind their sights. Here, BIS didnt do that. They turned them on by default, and even animated the freaking thing. Animated it! Thats a joke. My crosshair is turned off. Guess what? I know that rapid fire without sights causes increasing inaccuracies and I dont need an animated crosshair. Guess what, I can make relatively accurate center mass shots at close range without it...and the long range ones...I have to use my sights. Guess what? I know that if I run and then try to shoot, my accuracy will be off. I cant cheat like many do....or are allowed to. The sights should be at the very least turned off by default. There should also be a way for players to find servers where it is off for everyone (x360 and noob PC players can go elsewhere). /Fanboy protection ACTIVATED/ Look, BIS aint gonna change a thing here. They dont get it. They miss the point. Heck, they even give one real time ammo counters of bullets in ones magazine! That is pathetic. /Fanboy protection DEACTIVATED/ BIS made a great game no doubt. I gave them my hard earned money for their hard work. But on this one, in my view and some others here, they missed the point by likely catering to noobs and X360 players in order for mass appeal and sales. They made a great product but fudged in some areas rather than completely breaking new ground and being bold in some areas in terms of true first person realism like its never (NEVER) been done before. Frankly, thats what the games market needs. Bold designs instead of rehashed games with new bells and whistles. -

teach replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Anything shot "from the hip" without sights should have some sort of random spread IMHO. The only way the engine should allow for a precise shot is when sights are used. That would keep people from using that lame crosshair with pip to make accurate shots at distance. Like someone else said, why use your sights and obstruct your view? With the crosshair gone, trust me, players would quickly adapt. Also, why the lame bullet counters (I say again)? It is just so darn funny to me that they are there. Something are needed to compensate for a translation to a flat panel monitor but that aint one of them. Its just so arcade. ---------- Post added at 02:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:03 AM ---------- Nah. Its more like this: No crosshair - drinking a beer at the bar. Crosshair - drinking a beer at the bar through a sippie cup. -

Easy there big fellas. Yes, I can turn it off and I do. Im advocating it off by default not ON by default. And in a more larger discussion, Im questioining why it is there in the first place. Everyone needs to just relax a little bit...take a deep breath. Thats all I am saying. Yes, I dont think it should be in game. Yes I think it should be off by default. Thats it. Everyone can settle down. And on another note, in regards to ammo, I liked how Red Orchestra pulled that one off. Didnt they rate the amount of ammo in a mag by its weight and not an ammo counter on screen? Thats another one I think BIS got wrong. An actual ammo counter for each bullet. Can that be turned off? What if it can? It still shouldnt be in game and shouldnt be on by default for an infrantry sim designed on reality. -

teach replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Well, if you call complaining that something is unrealistic in a game that is supposed to take realism somewhat seriously well... I do turn it off. My only issue is why is it there in the first place? Especially when it really takes away from realism more than it provides. Again, anyone who has played Project Reality understands that universal removal of the onscreen crosshair still makes for one hell of a game. And it doesnt steal any fun. It actually forces one and all, young and old, to man up and use the iron sights while not cheating with a X360 like schema. Im talking about the bigger picture where BIS actually still uses it and has it on by default. I think that is a wrong. I think it is a mistake. Turn it off? I do. Am I proposing BIS remove it thus removing it from you? I guess I am. I guess I am asking people to man up for an infantry sim and play realistically.
