    AI Improvement

Yea I think you're talking about the gamestar interview: as far as I know AI behaviour with grass is remaining unchanged but there may be some other changes, I doubt BI would simply leave the AI untouched from ARMA 2 to 3.

Haha remember the white trees in the ARMA2 showcases and I think even after release, I'd imagine it's a similar problem and will pretty certainly be fixed before the release this time around

Hmm Jay talks about sending AI into buildings, does this mean they will actually act better indoors or was he just implying that there will be more enterable buildings but the AI will act the same as in ARMA1/2?
  4. Hell you say that, but have you seen this? MZuvRiyIh6c One Dslyecxi with an ak takes down about 20 fortified 'US guys'.

  6. *sigh* DayZ is still in alpha... FPDR The whole reason DayZ is such an immersive and awesome game is because of Rocket's attitude to its design - barebones survival - the reward of survival is the experience. Rewarding players with flashy points/gold will automatically turn this game shitty and mainstream imo, I reckon by the time twz has lost appeal (if it gains any to start with), DayZ will still be strong and gaining in popularity. Lol that's a good one.

    CQB??

I wonder what's happening with regards to 'ambient/almost unavoidable' player-made noise such as footsteps, I'm not sure if/how much this has been discussed but watching this: KlXn62xhmi4 reminded me about the really loud and awkward footsteps noise made in arma and how they're sometimes hard to avoid when in real life it shouldn't be that hard to not make so much noise! Sometimes it kinda ruins what could be awesome stealthy cqb moments, imo there should be an alternative 'sneak' to walking/crouch-walking, with Smookie working on animations I'm sure there'll be some sneak animation but hopefully it will make reduced sound!

Will Arma 3 have better mouse controls?

Lol all fine and dandy for you but what about the casual arma gamer who doesn't own such fancy equipment? The system requirements don't say: Minimum: OS: Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1 CPU: Intel Dual-Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT or ATI Radeon HD 3830 or Intel HD Graphics 3000 with Shader Model 4 and 512 MB VRAM RAM: 2 GB HDD: 15 GB free space DirectX®:10 Mouse: Razer Naga They clearly aren't fine if you had to use external software to fix it.

hah not to go too off-topic or anything, but yea it would be awesome if bis released some sort of snowy map+units+/weapons etc. dlc (or 'content patch', although I doubt this would happen). Anyone have any idea why they haven't really ventured into this properly before?
  12. Indeed, was pretty let down by that interview, there was no good news (At least one fancy new feature should be announced every interview :P), everything like physx, hdr lighting etc. we already knew from e3 and bis trailers, it seems like that's literally all that's being updated from ARMA2 (and soldiers, weapons, vehicles and beautiful islands ofc). Does anyone know when the interview was actually done? ---[edit]--- actually I feel kinda harsh for saying that, the RTT, new animations, underwater gameplay and weapon & easier character customizations are also pretty fly, and will probably take the gameplay to a new level along with ragdoll (if they properly manage to integrate physx in time, y'know, with their limited resources and all...), I haven't played the game yet so it's probably too early to scrutinize it so much. ---[edit]--- Even after that I feel harsh ha, reading through: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?119512-Arma-3-Confirmed-features-info-amp-discussion&p=1933952&viewfull=1#post1933952 again, I'm being reminded of 'forgotten' really awesome underrated new features!

Are you going to upgrade because of ARMA 3?

Boom, release 3rd week of August http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-660-ti-launch-3rd-week-august/ £200 = 250-260EUR = $300 seems... average, but then again 560s then will be diiirt-cheap... ..goddamnit, new computer parts just arrived (everything excluding gfx card) and are just sitting here uselessly next to me -.-

Are you going to upgrade because of ARMA 3?

In pretty much the same situation here, and was thinking of a similar system :0 Out of curiosity what PSU are you getting? I've ordered: -i73770 3.4GHz (non 'k' version, don't think I'll be doing much/any overclocking) -8GB Corsair Low profile -ASUS P8Z77-V LX mobo -OCZ Octane-S2 128GB SSD (I'll also stick my old 500GB HDD in after erasing everything on it.) -be quiet! 550W PSU I guess if I wanted a card bigger than a GTX 560 I'd need a bigger PSU? I'll probably stick to this badboy anyway ---[Edit]--- In fact I may just wait for the GTX 660 to be released and either take that or get myself a cheap 560 (reduced in price to make way for the 660)

    What Are Your Favorite Programs/Applications?

Chrome/Firefox, use both randomly to surf, still trying to work out which one I prefer the most. Prefer TS3 over skype but they both have pretty much the same functionality for me, depends who I'm talking to though I'll use whatever they prefer. Wordpad. Microsoft word, Excel and occasionally powerpoint - they're pretty much compatible with everything and because my dad doesn't use MS office so I basically have a free (his) license for it, when I go to uni though I'll probably start using google docs for all my work though. VLC media player. <3 Fraps. Used to use gamebooster but I'm not sure whether I trust IObit - dunno whether this is a keeper when I order my new computer. Itunes. Steam, although I prefer hard-disk copies of games When I'm in an editing mood I usually stick to Sony Vegas and Adobe photoshop, although if I want a certain elaborate effect I'll try and conjure something up in After FX. Occasionally I also edit some sound effects in Audacity when I can't find the tool to do it in vegas, but I use vegas to compile&publish pretty much all my audio/video projects. Used Teamviewer about 3 times in my life, it's pretty cool but yea, don't really use it anymore.. Used to use PC Tools Spyware doctor - it was very good but it clashed with punkbuster so I haven't renewed it and am currently anti-virus-less :P (doesn't bother me much, new computer soon as my current graphics card is fried (I'm currently typing in what looks like a blurry 640x480 screen res. with sever colour distortion and random artifacts everywhere!) and hardware needs updating in general, especially for ARMA3) Might as well mention: For my ridonculously slow HTC wildfire I've pretty much de-installed everything except the following in the hope of speeding my phone up: Gmail Inbox app. Internet. AK Notepad. Twitter app. Flashlight Phone basics such as messages, call functionality, cam, camcorder. and Last but definitely not least, soundcloud - if there were an 'app' for this on pc I would have it running in the background all day long. No games! music is enough to keep me entertained when I'm out and about.

Well the warfare alternative which Ivan was talking about sounds like it definitely won't be in the alpha but added in a later patch/update.Whether some of the other listed info will be in the alpha/full/release/added later we don't know for certain, as was mentioned in the podcast17 interview, it seems like the aim of the alpha is to include the basics of the game and especially test out new features to check that they are compatible with most people's systems and fix them if they aren't, more content can easily be added later.

Hmm in this case does interchangeable mean that you can put any weapon's scope on any other weapon or will it mean that there will be only one type of sniper scope which you can put on any weapon? I know there will be a variety of optics available e.g. red dot, nv, combat sight, sniper sight.. but if the zoom optics on the barrett are the same as the zoom optics you'd put say on a dragunov it would be a bit weird no? Maybe I'm commenting too soon, I feel like I'm not well enough informed about weapon customization... maybe someone could enlighten me?
  18. I reckon if any balancing should be done by the devs it should be achieved by changing the availability of weapons in certain faction ammo crates, back in the day when warfare was introduced into arma, instead of grabbing your weapon of choice from an ammobox with a limited selection of weapons (determined by the game designers), they had to be bought via a menu in a base/depot/whatever, this was quite a subtle way of balancing as different weapons had different prices so everyone in the game started off with a simplistic m16/ak till they earnt enough money to get themselves a nice new toy but instead of just plonking a blufor ammocrate in the blufor base and an opfor one in the opfor base it actually involved some thought from the mission designer about manually determining if there was an opposite-team equivalent to every weapon (and vehicle for that matter), adjusting prices and/or adding/removing some weapons. Now I think what people mean when they say 'don't balance the vanilla game, war isn't balanced, leave it up to the mission designer' is true to some extent but when you compare a regular blufor ammo crate with an opfor one, I'm pretty sure most people would go for the one standard with flir, laser pointers, fancy-optics etc. (blu), I'm not saying it's impossible to modify the contents of ammocrates, in-fact it's relatively easy, I'm just saying that some mission designers forget to do so or just assume that a blufor crate is equivalent to an opfor one. Also remember that in ARMA3 there will be even less need to try to manually balance the game due to the fully-integrated weapon modifications, instead of mission-designers balancing their mission, it will effectively now be up to the players themselves, although I don't know how it'll work with vehicles - if they will have any form of customization. Don't get me wrong though, I personally like unbalanced missions, e.g. if blufor has all the high-tech gear it is up to opfor to 'play cleverly', which usually means they end up winning as many people playing with blufor kit will just end up trying to barge around with their tech, succumbing to a cycle of being taken down by well-hidden opfor AA/AT then returning to base and barging around again.

    Fireplaces put out while raining

I really doubt this feature has any use; as I already stated, rain doesn't put out campfires unless they're left unattended for a long time but this ain't exactly a boyscout simulator, I mean the player isn't gonna go and collect wood to start a fire in a game and the only thing it would affect is if someone is trying to light a fire, wet kindling doesn't light :j:

    Ragdolls = In .... Realistic wounds ???

As long as the people who do the voice-overs don't make the player sound like a total pansy, hah I still remember the days playing the ARMA2 campaign just after release, your character would go on groaning for ages after being wounded and this feature was pretty annoying and quote heavily criticized by reviews at the time. If cries of agony are included I think they should only be included when necessary, for example if the player is wounded and surrounded by other wounded people/corpses and his morale is low, otherwise it would sound inappropriate (in both ways :p).

    Wind simulation

But you can't tell in which direction the wind is blowing unless it's raining, I'd like there to be some sort of togglable indicator, maybe on the map, which tells you.
