  1. Don't worry mate, tons of Core i5/7 users are experiencing these stutters and I'm almost certain it's BIS failing to properly code for optimized usage across all cores or take advantage of their power. I did find a sort-of workaround, overclocking. It feels like the game only takes properly advantage of 2 cores or something like that, so they are being overworked and requires a bit of an extra boost. Hopefully BIS will actually try and test these CPUs because a LOT of people use 'em and a big handful of these users are suffering.
  2. Hey BIS, what about inverted Y-axis for people who use Gamepad ( Like 360 controller? ) been asking since ArmA II was released ... Can't be that hard to implement.
  3. I agree with the above, open-world games are based on so many more variables that tend to be dynamic thus rendered live, so there's a much bigger risk of something going wrong, bugs occurring and not to mention debugging it can be quite a mess. Only problem is, from my point of view is the engine being used. Yes, the underlying technology has remained the same since OFP basically with many, many improvements but it's still sad to see many of the exact same bugs return time and time again which is my main gripe not to mention BIS always seemed to have trouble optimizing their games for the latest technology and notice how I said OPTIMIZE not just crowbar it into the engine. So no, use the same engine but isn't it time to go back to the drawing board and perhaps optimize the engine properly, try and make use of new technology properly and stop with the half-arsed solutions.
  4. Again, go back and read his post - He's making an imaginary conversation with himself to dismiss the rant being about performance and yet everyone acts like a 12 year old and screams "OMG UR PC MUST BE BAD!!!1" and what that guy quoted was MY post, not the OP.
  5. Then you obviously didn't read the OP whatsoever or you clearly don't grasp the language.
  6. Perhaps you should read his rant instead of trying to join the thread-bandwagon? And Lord Byte, I know where you come from, I've been there myself. It's such a defeat trying to play this great game and always been stopped dead in your tracks by performance issues, bugs that ruin the experience, immersion or get you killed because the AI killed you through a wall ( *sigh* ) Ever since the release of OA, I've tweaked and tested the game to reach a PLAYABLE performance, I'm not kidding - Look at my specs for crying out loud! But I always tell myself, there is no other game that provides what BIS offers, so I might as well suck it up and hope for the best. Plus, few other games have this level of developer support / feedback and third party modding support ( Although few games are this bug riddled ). So for me it's a trade-off, I accept the ups and downs of the game and I also get to play and experience one of the few games in the business that provides me with a proper military experience and hasn't been "Call of Duty'ified" so to speak. And to the people just writing out crap, at least read his rant and add something to the discussion, you sound like the people you'd find at the Modern Warfare 2 forums. I was sure people who play these type of games were in another maturity group. So hopefully you'll see the light at the end of the tunnel and can except the flaws of the game because deep down inside, you know it's a diamond in the rough ;D

    Arrowhead E08: Benchmark

That's SpeedStepping, something completely different. The actual report of top-end clock ie 3.66 and 3.8 in this case is just odd. And both numbers are on idle load. ( And I've had to set manual OCing, so it doesn't do anything automatically )

    Arrowhead E08: Benchmark

No, usually run my CPUs as stock ( Bad experience :P ) but decided to give it a try, upped it to 3.66 according to the POST and 3.8 according to CPU-Z ( What is it? ) and first benchmark run: 51FPS second: 53 Third: 54 And was actually quite smooth as well, holy shit - Cheers for the heads up man =D
  9. Just remembered why I hate vanilla ArmA. The AI is so super-human, even on regular with their skill level turned all the way down, a Takistani military with a lee-enfield will be able to hit you from well over 500m away, in no light situations, whilst your down behind a rock with ONE SHOT. I already miss mods like ACE and GL4, the AI is completely retarded at everything else but at shooting, they will insta-kill you.
  10. I'm not using ATI's Audio output as I know it steals cycles from the GPU. I did however find a default "High Defintion Audio Device" enabled despite having disabled everything onboard. It actually gave me a boost of about 4-5FPS on the benchmark and made Zargabad stutter less - So was definitely a great suggestion mate. Still some way to go though ...
  11. I'd kill for 60 FPS solid, renamed .exe, lowering a lot of the options to High and even Medium / disabled and I still won't break 45 in the benchmark. Poor optimization, that's for sure.

    Arrowhead E08: Benchmark

Hey, Yes, my .exe is renamed and I am seeing activity across both GPUs ( Sub-50 on both, though ). I tried lowering PP to Normal as that keeps the DOF and Blur, though performance SEEMS unchanged, I haven't run a Benchmark yet. As for cfg files, no, haven't looked into that yet.

Isn't that what we're doing by reporting specs and performance, pointing out issues and saying what / where it has become worse?

    Arrowhead E08: Benchmark

I already tried, the FPS gain is less than 10 ( Around 3-5 FPS in the Benchmark ) - It all depends on your hardware, what's stopping me at the moment is the game's bad coding. And what PP adds is good - depth of field, the blur is natural because you don't see anything crisp and clear, ESPECIALLY not in an extremely warm area with 50 pounds of gear - It all adds to the immersion. Not to mention it hides rough areas and the games shortfalls in graphics. Bloom also gives a nice touch.

Who said they were running 10,000VD?

    Arrowhead E08: Benchmark

Already am running the Beta :) I like PP so that's staying on, will try Shadows. EDIT: Shadows down to high gave me a 45-46 results in the benchmark with little visual impact on the shadows - That's always something. EDIT 2: Just to clarify unplayable; it's not "Low FPS" unplayable, it's MASSIVE Micro-stutters that is engine optimization based, nothing else.

    New beta 71900 is up!(OA)

I know my system is sufficient so right now I'm just waiting for new Catalyst drivers and for BIS to start churning out some patches that actually improve performance for people with high-end rigs* - Then I'll be a happy camper :) *Not every high-end rig included, only goes for the many people who seem to be running top-of-the-line systems and are suffering from micro-stutters and poor FPS.
  18. Stick with the 10.4 - I feel both the 10.5 and 10.6s are very problematic.

    Arrowhead E08: Benchmark

Specs are in the signature! Settings: ( http://dl.dropbox.com/u/473845/ArmA/Untitled-1.png ) OA Benchmark: 1st run: 40 2nd run: 43 3rd run: 42 4th run: 43 Though, game is unplayable on Zargabad and other heavily populated areas with buildings.

    New beta 71900 is up!(OA)

News-flash, it doesn't change the FPS or micro-stutter even if I turn it below 4000, so might as well get maximum eye-candy. The problem lies in the LOD of nearby objects being drawn.

    New beta 71900 is up!(OA)

Zargabad is definitely an issue, massive stuttering and it's constant - Unplayable. In the two other maps, the performance is actually quite good most of the time - I'll easily hit and peak 60FPS and then it'll slowly drop when I get to more crowded areas, yet the FPS remains somewhat steady despite being low - No microstutters. So it's a so-so experience, at one hand you have a smooth experience and on the other a complete disaster. There's definitely something wrong with their LOD engine, which is apparent in Zargabad. It's a shame I have to stay clear of that exact map because it's brilliant, lots of CQB combat which is my favourite and you can enter pretty much every building. I mean, with my upgrade from 4870X2 to 5970 and installed the game on an SSD, it allowed me to bump view distance from around 3.000 to 5.400 which is a sweet spot where mountains don't pop up and textures are drawn, looks stunning in this environment. I also managed to bump Post-processing from Disabled / Low to Very High with little impact on the other maps. So overall, we're getting there - They just need to work on the LOD engine and a massive focus on buildings and I'll be a happy camper, as that seems to be my main issue right now. And as someone said, don't bother upgrading for ArmA, it's pointless :)
  22. There wasn't any recoil in vanilla, it was like Call of Duty - The new one is nice step but they need to turn it into a kickback instead of a weapon that keeps rising. The best way to simulate proper 'recoil' is by the weapon going up and then about 90% down again, so you still see the weapon rise but the kickback is what throws off the aim. Should be a natural reaction for the soldier in-game to counter the recoil by pulling it down, shouldn't be our job as it's a bit of a chore with the mouse.

No but can feel it and there's a MASSIVE different between 30 and say, 45 or 50. 30 feels really sluggish and is unacceptable when you have a high-end rig, then it's a developer problem.

    New beta 71900 is up!(OA)

Of course FPS is BIS' fault, don't tell me an i7 940, 5970 OC'd, 6GB DDR3 ram and a fast SSD can't handle this game at more than 45 average FPS with a few things set to very high and then it just goes down with "Disabled" for AA, "Normal" for AF etc. ( That's excluding the micro-stuttering which is BAAAAD, Zargabad is UNPLAYABLE for me, it's like playing a slideshow ) The game IS poorly optimized, especially for high-end hardware and that's a fact, as much as I love the game that's just how it is.

23-30FPS is Smooth? I'd definitely not settle with that.
