I went to Best Buy here in Canada and they knew nothing about the game's release. It isn't on their computer system at all. Off to EB Games for me I guess

Evolution V1.0 Large scale respawn coop
SlipperyJim replied to KilJoy -SFG-'s topic in ARMA - USER MISSIONS
The issue isn't about copyright law. That is for the weasel lawyers. What this is about is showing respect for the people that do the hard work in the community making maps and mods. If a map maker asks not to modify his map then don't do it! If there is something in the map you don't like then tough noodles. Just because you can modify it doesn't mean you should. The guy didn't make the map for profit. He did it as a labor of love and the only thing he asks from the community is a little respect. Thieves who steal maps and mods damage the community by discouraging the creative people that actually do the hard work. It is so easy to take a mod or map and modify it slightly. Just because it is easy doesn't make it morally right! Yes, some communities like CounterStrike have no respect for mod or map makers but do we really want this community to be like that?!! Are we nothing more than children that feel they can take whatever they want? Thieves are amazing at justifying their actions so they can keep on being thieves. -

@ CaptainMurphy The creator of the map asked for you to respect his wishes but instead all you have done is justify why you feel you don't have to show him common courtesy for his hard work. Mod and map thieves can always justify their actions in their own minds because nothing with stop them from doing what they really want to do. If this is how mod and map makers are treated in this community I will keep my projects private. Out of respect for the rules of this forum I shall back away from the conversation since I can see it turning ugly quickly. It is Kiljoy's baby and it is up to him really to defend his rights. @ Kiljoy Thanks for version 1.4 -

Private or not the name of your server makes it look like your Clan is taking credit for the mission. Yes, I know this wasn't your intent but that is the result. This map isn't open source so your justification of "you work with open source all the time" is just an excuse. -
Thank god I live in Canada. When I send my kids off to school I don't worry about them getting shot. Sure it could happen because of smuggled American guns but it is a heckova lot less likely! You can keep your guns and your illusion of "protection". That little animated film in Bowling For Columbine I think speaks volumes.

Wow, with all due respect you shouldn't use your moderator powers to control a political discussion when it is being totally civil. I wasn't aware the BIS forums were for conservatives only

I saw this happen one night before my eyes. You are correct that what happens is the vehicle disappears after a certain amount of time. The bodies instead of disappearing with the vehicle sort of eject as the vehicle disappears. Wonder if it is possible to fix that in a script (it should be). For instance remove the dead AI first before the vehicle goes. As for people modifying your map Kiljoy I too think it is disgusting. They are nothing more than map/mod thieves. These sort of people are parasites that prey on the hard work of people like you. They do a lot of damage to the community by discouraging creative people. Learning from your maps is one thing but showing no respect towards the original creator is unforgivable. I am a great believer in that if a map/mod maker chooses to "open source" his work that is great but at the same time if someone chooses not to the community needs to respect that wish too! Encourage and respect your mod/map makers or lose them!! -
[myg0t]Azide is part of that clan of trouble makers that love to cheat. They got off on annoying people and only live to be destructive. I don't believe a word coming out of their mouths.

I get motion sickness with some games but I find that it usually happens on larger monitors. I did a bit of gaming on my friend's 21" monitor and wanted to throw up. I only have a 17" monitor at home and it keeps me from hurling.

Lol, yup I never stop complaining about the side missions Okay so I felt like playing in Photoshop and didn't want to do anything productive so I did this instead: Childish I know but hey, there definitely is a banana/monkey/evolution theme to your mission, lol. -

Arggh that was probably it. Not sure why you included that since the side missions aren't connected in any way with the objectives of clearing the towns. Where were those point whores doing missions when we needed them?! -

Last night on the IMO server we completed all the objectives and all the cities had check marks but no dancing. The map did not end. Several people reported on their map a few cities like Cayo suddenly were "grayed" out again as if they were still hot even though the notepad showed it was done. The map finally timed out and restarted 30 mins-60 mins later. I noticed that you don't get points for running over the enemy and killing them, lol. I ran over a whole squad of enemy troops with my hummer and didn't get a single point. 8 dead under my wheels. Probably a bug with the game? -

Congrats this map has become wildly popular. So many coop servers running it. Kiljoy with the helicopters instead of going back to the old system why not modify it to get the best of both worlds. - respawn the helicopter if it is in working condition after 20 minutes. 10 mins is too short of time and there is a glut of helos. 20 mins for the side mission people should be enough. A timed respawn is great because so many people abandon and then exit server. - damaged helicopters get the usual "fix me" marker and if 30 mins passes it will respawn. Sometimes a helo goes down in the water or at the top of a steep mountain and it is lost. The game shouldn't be a total pain to play for "realism" sake. I agree with some of the posters above that the dynamic weather is just fluff. More dynamic placement of shilkas etc would really help keep the mission challenging. -

Minor bug reports but I notice that the ammo in the crate needs a little tweaking. For instance ammo for the Javelin shows up even though you don't have the rank for it. The ammo used on the Mp5 has no description or name. -

The side missions divide the people on the server into seperate groups. Instead of everyone working towards the same goal you have people divided into splinter groups. Since the side missions give more points than clearing towns you have point whores (usually clans) who run off doing side missions instead of clearing the towns. Yes I agree the side missions are fun. No one is arguing that. However I think Evolution needs to decide what it is. Is it a collection of side missions OR is it a single mission in which you clear a lot of towns of the enemy. It could very easily be 2 separate maps. The problem with side missions really shows itself when there are a small number of people on the server. If there wasn't side mission everyone would be working together for the same goal. When you have 3 people trying to clear a town and you have 7 people running off doing side missions then the fun factor has dropped. It is a lot more enjoyable if all 10 people are working together. Remember the mission briefing involves clearing the towns. If Kiljoy the map designer considered the side missions as the main element than he would have wrote the briefing differently, lol. -

One nasty crash I had that caused the computer to completely lockup was during a respawn into the barracks. Could the barracks respawn cause this? Regardless I find respawning inside the barracks a little odd because of camera issues and such. There just isn't enough room and sometimes you spawn behind the door and have a little trouble getting out. Perhaps respawn in one of the big empty tents instead? -

Fantastic mission. Keep up the good work because you have many people that enjoy your effort! Just a couple things I noticed while playing: 1) People get around the rank system for weapons by dropping weapons around the crates. It makes the rank system for weapons almost redundant. This "exploit" also potentially slows the game down with unnecessary polygons. Could this be a source of troubles with server stability? There is always a ton of items scattered on the ground. Is there a way to make these items disappear like the bodies after a certain amount of time? Should the rank system be re-thought when it comes to weapons? 2) Side missions have a negative affect on gameplay. Personally I think it divides up the server with the point "whores" going off and "Rambo-ing" by themselves. You really notice the problem when there are only a few people on the server and there are only a couple of people clearing towns. Perhaps you should remove the motivation for people and not reward the side missions with so many points. Make it so that clearing the towns/killing town enemies gives more points. 3) Since some people like to be jerks on missions I noticed that people will intentionally park helos on a rooftop so you can't get to them and then shoot at them to damage them. Need to figure out a better method to make the helos respawn back on the airbase in case jerks try to ruin the fun? 4) Is there a main website for your maps for updates and such? -
Rotate Fence To Match Terrain
SlipperyJim replied to SlipperyJim's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Thanks Kronzky for the reply and for the welcome. I actually did already attempt your suggestion before I posted here but it didn't seem to work properly. From my understanding a valid range that can go in there is between -1 and +1, correct? I read this thread but the math gave me a headache. Who would have ever guessed math class would be useful 25 years later!? Too bad I spent more time in the school's photography darkroom rather than worrying about math. -
Be gentle with me: noob alert. I am trying to place a barbed wire fence object on uneven terrain and each time the editor places it at a funky angle. Instead of a combination of proper angle and sinking it into the ground the editor will place the fence giving priority to the lowest part of the terrain. As you can see from the screenshot below one end sticks up too high. Azimuth rotates around a central axis but do we also have control to tilt the objects? Thanks in advance for not pointing and laughing.
