    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

Is this partially why we haven't seen a patch for the game? Yes I know that Atari was the distributor in North America but they must have been funding the game too (??) This game has been destroyed by cheaters and we haven't been given a patch to fix it. I haven't played Arma in months because of this horrible problem with hackers. I have been waiting patiently for a patch and there doesn't seem to be any progress. Did I miss some big news announcement?! Someone throw us a frickin' bone!

A friendly suggestion: fix the screenshot page on your website. http://www.gol-clan.net/hosted/sahraniville/?p=media You have 4 images there but there is no link to enlarge! Each thumbnail is around 1 megs, lol.

lol, okay. Let's call a truce shall we. I vented my anger at BIS and hopefully we will have a patch in this decade. I would feel more comfortable knowing that they weren't busy working on a sequel already

Nice try plaintiff1. I don't have a problem with someone disagreeing with me because there is nothing that you disagreed with. All you did was attack me for complaining about the ridiculous 6 month wait on a patch. The meat of your post is that I should go in a thread with people who dislike Arma or that have a long list of beefs. I only have 1 beef. It is a shame that you didn't read the first 2/3rds of my last post since it was about how much I love Arma. Yes, in your black and white world it is hard to grasp how someone could both love Arma and be disappointed with BIS. You are either a classic fanboy who can't stand anyone being critical or you are just looking to fight? Which is it? As I already mentioned the game is only 1 year old and to have to wait for 6 months to get a patch is ridiculous. As soon as the hackers showed up BIS should have shifted into overdrive and focused on closing the security hole. Clients should not be able to run scripts period. Again it is crazy that people compare this to the usual multiplayer hacks that all games suffer from. This is not a matter of a simple wallhack or some memory hack that affects a single player. These are complete scripts that destroy gameplay on Arma for everyone on the server. What is better for the community and the game: A) Wait 6+ months to fix the security whole and add a bunch of new features B)Fix the security hole in 2 months with a patch and then 4 months later release another patch with a bunch of new features. Heya back, IceBreakr. Well I didn't play Swat 4 for long. I prefer to think of myself from Swat 3, lol.

I see plaintiff1, in your world there is only two types it seems. Those who like the game and NEVER question or complain and those that hate the game. Don't be shy, there is a 3rd type that just loves to pick a fight and doesn't really care about anything. Wonder what type you are?

    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

I just wanted to add that I really, really, really friggin' enjoy playing Arma. I have had some awesome cooperative games that lasted easily over 8 hours (thanks Evolution). After a certain point your eyes are bleeding but you can't quit because you are having so much damned fun. Again last night I had hours invested on a server playing Evolution and was thinking "man, this is the best game ever made"...then a hacker showed up, farked everything up! I went from being completely in love with the game to Googling the developers home address so I could personally cap them in the knees (yes, I am just joking please don't ban me) 6 months to fix this massive security hole is friggin' offensive!! Come on BIS. Get your act together!!! Sorry for the rant.

I am talking about dead in terms of the developer stopping work on it. This game won't have anything like Falcon's fan loyalty because before you know it everyone will give up on it and move onto Arma 2. I pray BIS isn't going to start acting like UBI.

You know a game is dead when people start talking about making mods to work around bugs. Looks like I will be keeping my money in my pocket when Arma 2 comes out because I don't want to wait over a year for it to get patched. What a shame.

    Arma 1.09  news

Careful LtCmdrBoon, all the fanboys will attack you for asking that question. 6 months+ to fix one of the biggest security holes I have seen in gaming history is not something we can complain about apparently.

    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

No I don't agree to that because I never said that. I asked if it would affect Arma. Not BIS, lol. Forgive me for posting a news article and asking a question about the health of Arma. Forgive me for pointing out that Arma will have a huge 6 month gap since the last patch. Forgive me for mentioning the fact that there hasn't been a patch even though hackers have nearly destroyed multiplayer games on public servers. It is getting hard to tell the difference between fanboys and trolls that just love to fight around here. Perhaps they are the same?

    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

Just like it is easy to post opinion instead of fact. Man, you guys really love to fight don't ya? Or is it just that everyone took it so personally since of course everyone worked on the game?

Some people just love to argue for the love of the fight it appears.

    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

Sorry I seem to have hurt your feelings DMarkwick. Just what am I supposed to turn 180 on? The fact that 6 months between patches is too long? The fact that Atari is in major financial problems? The fact that hackers have nearly wrecked Arma multiplayer?

    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

Thanks but the BIS website has no new information. Hence why I posted in the general forums since their stickies weren't updated in a while either. People comparing what the Arma hackers are doing with cheating that goes on in other multiplayer game is complete nonsense. No other game allows you to run client-side scripts without any sort of security check. I won't post any more on this matter since it is drawing out too many forum trolls and fanboys that smell blood. Sorry guys but I won't bite back. Have fun

    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

Thanks W0lle for the link. Glad to see they are still alive. The last patch was released on June 11 which was 5 months ago and by the time the new patch is released we are looking at 6 months or more. Considering the game is only 1 year old that is a huge gap between patches. As soon as the hacker issue showed up BIS should have went into overdrive and concentrated on closing that security hole. The fanboys may attack people for wondering what is going on with the game but too bad for them.

    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

Matt Rochelle, yes I already saw that long ago but when was that dated? Hmmm August? As I have stated SEVERAL times (if people had bothered to read instead of getting all defensive) is that there has been no word in a long time as far as I know. Perhaps people with short memories have already forgotten how much hackers have crippled this game. The patch should have been priority number one to get out the door. As for people's comments about the difference between the developer and the publisher, yes I knew someone would come along and point out the obvious, lol. What do you guys think independent developers pay their employees with? A modern game costs millions of dollars to make. Patches cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. This money comes from companies like Atari so that the developer can do the work. Just like we saw with Swat 4, when Sierra's accountants (the publisher) pulled the money Irrational Games (the developer) had no money to fix the game. I make no claims to be a games industry expert or even know Arma's funding model. I would love to be corrected by someone who knows the actual facts. However as a customer who paid for and who loves Arma I have a right to express concern that we will never see the game fixed. After UBI's handling of the R6 series and GRAW I am fed up with buggy games that could be so good if the developers were only allowed to fix them.

    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

No, I am not stirring the pot. Forgive me if I missed a sticky but I haven't seen any recent news of an impending patch that will fix the massive security holes we have. Not a peep in a VERY long time. The news story states that Atari is in deep financial crisis. Arma was released before this re-organization and could very well be part of the fat that gets cut away. Where do you think the money comes from to make patches? If they want us to buy Arma 2 they gotta fix this one first. One of the great things about Opflash is that they kept plugging away at patches.
  18. Please do not start a flamewar but I feel I have a right to ask this question. There has been a lot of concern lately about the new game Bioshock and how a rootkit is installed by Securom (owned by Sony). I did a scan with "Rootkit Revealer" and it reported I had a Securom rootkit on my system but I never installed Bioshock or its demo. There are only two possible culprits that installed this rootkit on my system. R6: Vegas or Armed Assault. I would REALLY love to hear from BIS that no rootkit was installed with Arma and its patches. That means NO hidden files and NO hidden registry entries. Disclaimer: I love Arma and I am not trying to stir up trouble. However I have a right to ask what was installed on my system and the right to let software companies know that I do not want rootkits on my computer!

    Evolution - Single Player

Thanks so much Kronzky for your hard work! People like you are gems in the community. Anyone know if you can install 1.0 and still use the save games from beta 0.14? Update: I installed 1.0 over the old 0.14 and it loaded my save game fine. However there is a slight bug that may not be related to using an old save game. I have a bunch of enemy vehicles stored at my base. When I get in them and then hop back out I get the following error pop up:

    Evolution - Single Player

Yes, the base repaired and refueled enemy vehicles fine. It just won't reload their ammo. Interesting feature. The crew destroying the ammo when they eject still seems frustrating to me. I wish instead when the crew ejects that you can't re-arm the vehicle but you could use all the ammo that was left behind when the crew ejected.
  21. SlipperyJim

    Evolution - Single Player

The problem is that the vehicle can never be re-armed even when you take it back to your base. It is always "empty". Yes, I know realism is your goal but what crew that is under fire and ejects from a damaged tank will take the time to destroy the ammo? I killed the crew as soon as they ejected and they certainly didn't have enough time to do anything but bleed I can assure you. The only way to kill the gunner of a tank so you can retain the ammo is to blow up the tank...which is a catch-22 since the tank is useless now anyways. Flawed logic? I don't want to sound critical at all. Your hard work is very appreciated. Would be great if you could figure out a way for the vehicle to empty of ammo but still allow it to be fully re-armed with an ammo truck or by bringing it back to base.

    Evolution - Single Player

I finally tried out the single player version (was waiting for the bugs to be worked out) and I have questions/comments. 1) Would love respawns in addition to save games to make it more like the multiplayer experience. I like the idea of being "punished" for getting yourself killed. Allowing us the ability to choose reload or respawn after dying would suit everyone's play style. 2) The "ReadMe" file states it is version 0.7 but your website says you are up to version 0.14. Did I get right version? 3) The only way that I know of to see my score is bringing up the mini-map. Would love for you to include a method to display the score & rank right directly on the screen instead of having to pop-up the mini-map. For instance would love for it to say "Rank: Private - 1000 points. Promotion in 4000 points". I am curious how many people actually use the mini-map. If you could use the mini-map while driving I would find it useful but since the mini-map freezes everything I always end up using the full map anyways. The only time I personally use the mini-map is to see my score. 4) In Paraiso when I disabled the T72s and BRDMs (ie. tank/wheel damage) the vehicles were out of ammo when I climbed in them (commander's spot had mg ammo but no main gun ammo at all). Is this a scripting issue? Would have been nice to be able to use the enemies guns on them. Thanks so much for all your effort...and of course to Kiljoy too!

    1UP Review Gives Arma 6.7

This is an extremely unfair review that shows he didn't spend much time with the game. By the review you can tell he only tried single player and he didn't make it clear that he only did half of his job. The reviewer obviously is an action junkie that prefers Counter Strike or BF2 than a thinking man's game. Yes the learning curve is a little more steep than an action shooter but it certainly isn't that complicated! This isn't a flight sim with hundreds of buttons. The reviewer states that only former military persons would be interesting in the game. That is utter nonsense since I am the complete opposite of that. You don't get any more tree hugging liberal than me. http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3159716

Evolution V1.0 Large scale respawn coop

Pretty black and white if you ask me. KilJoy asked for his map not to be modified and used on a server. Not following his request is disrespectful of him and all the hard work he put into it. It is also shows a lack of respect for all mod and mission makers in the community. To show what a classy guy is KilJoy asked for people to just wait until he was done the map before people hacked it to death. Some people have such little respect for mod and mission makers that they can't even wait for that.
