Let's talk about VOIP in 1.09

Well since we aren't mincing words here: now you are just coming across as angry because we aren't all jumping up and down about VOIP. We can appreciate that you worked very hard on this news thread but this still is a forum for people to express opinions good or bad. It appears you only want people gushing over what clearly is something you are passionate about. Unfortunately forums don't always work that way, lol. In all fairness if you look at the content of your first post that started this thread you started talking about all the other features that people are dying to find out about then, after a few paragraphs, you turn it to VOIP. It was just begging to go off topic, lol.

Let's talk about VOIP in 1.09

Dslyecxi, your efforts in making these videos, this thread, and all your Arma work is very much appreciated. Please don't think any of us are being ungrateful here. VOIP is only icing on the cake in my opinion. Many of us can live without it though. For people who have been waiting on other fixes it is very disappointing to have the VOIP features rolled out first. Obviously by the display of the iron fists of the moderators in this thread this is very important to BIS also. Regardless, thanks for your efforts in getting us news!

Let's talk about VOIP in 1.09

Well I downloaded and watched one of the videos and I really don't see what the big deal is. TS is good enough for me. Thanks for the update but VOIP really doesn't excite me since we already have several programs that do a find job at it already. Waste of BIS' time IMHO and certainly not worth delaying the patch for over 6 months. Moderators may not like me posting my opinion about the VOIP but at least I was on topic

    S.w.a.t. units

Woot. Good to see Los Angeles' "D Platoon" in action again (sorry, a helpless Swat 3 game fan). Now all we need are some mods to modify the gameplay (ie arrests/hand cuffing/tazers/CS smoke/flashbangs etc)

    Flickering night vision

Ya, that is the clamping down we all get when looking at a bright object like the autogain of a video camera.

    Flickering night vision

I used to have that problem also until someone suggested I check my video settings in-game. It was either anisotropic filtering or anti-aliasing (sorry can't remember which one fixed it). I had it set on LOW and this caused problems. If I recall correctly you have to switch to ADVANCED in Arma's video settings to see it.
  7. Crashing servers and non-dedicated servers being taken down is my guess.

    Unit cohesion and game dynamics

When you are on a public coop server if you follow too closely to another player you aren't always under cover when he opens fire. His gunfire may attract the enemy to your position by accident and get you also killed. When I do group up with people I prefer to be in the rear so I can see what they are up to.

Do we get some addons to next patch?

Although it is good to see some information posted my first reaction is: 1) This is going to take forever. It isn't even in the testing stages yet! At this rate it is going to be 8 or 9 months between patches?!! This is long past simply "have patience". 2) The community are the QA department? Great way to save money, but shouldn't we see the benefits of this by seeing more frequent patches?? You know it seems like the community is divided into two groups. The people who are in love with modifying the game (this group is content to wait until hell freezes over for the next patch) and the other group are people who actually play Arma. This last group is the people who spend hours on a server but then some 10 year old script kiddie shows up and wrecks the gameplay for all. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=70136

North Atlantic? Is there desert and tropical plants/trees in the North Atlantic?

Do we get some addons to next patch?

1.09 (if we do get it) will most surely be the last patch. Adding new features is dangerous. I have seen it with several games whereby adding new features leaves the game with new bugs that never get fixed. Where is our community coordinator? Where is word on the patch? We only seem to have silence.

    Is there really any cheater-prevention?

The last patch was in June...about 6 months ago! As soon as the script kiddies showed up BIS should have went into high gear and released fixes to stop the kids from running client-side scripts. Instead all they have done is stick their heads in the sand and worked on Arma 2. I love OFP and Arma and have a lot of respect for BIS. However it seems they are now acting like UBI or any other company that releases a game and then abandons it. They move onto the next money maker. Hopefully they will finish 1.09 and it will fix most of the biggest security holes and we can forget about this ugly chapter. No one expects to get rid of the wallhacks and such but being able to spawn objects and modify everyone's score on the server is absolutely ridiculous.

That talent pool in this community continues to amaze me. Great freaking stuff!
  14. Really? Gee all this time I thought with OFP and now Arma the main two sides were split between American and Russian equipment. M4/M16 on one side and the AK on the other side.

    another noob question

lol, next some smart alec will tell you to only play on the same server every night, lol.
  16. Lol, I love you guys. Look, I don't want this thread to turn into a typical forum battle in which people fight just for the sake of "being right" (even though they completely twist the discussion into something it wasn't). As I have mentioned many times in this thread already people who make addons/mods for this community are very much appreciated! All your hard work is respected. When you are making a vehicle addon please consider releasing a different version that fits in with the "USA Vs Russia" theme of Arma.
  17. I would argue different. You guys thought I was American and came out full guns blazing, lol. Hey I understand that frustration with wanting to see yourself reflected in games. It just seems silly to have spent all those hours coding and making 3D models and not spend the 30 minutes to slap on a different texture so some of your work fits in with Arma's original themes. (yes, before some person looking for an argument points out I know that sometimes the textures would have a lot of differences and take more time)
  18. Careful now, those are dangerous thoughts. This crowd will get angry lol. I totally agree. More stuff that fits into the Arma theme. How many times do I have to type that I am Canadian?! This is not about Americans but about the addons/mods fitting with the existing original Arma vehicles and weapons. Some people really need to stop being defensive and/or anti-American for a second and read what I am actually saying. Go ahead and release your Greek Huey or your Chinese Dog Sled or your Turkish Golf Cart. Be proud of your work. At the same time you might want to think about reskining the mod/addon so it fits in with Arma's storyline/theme and so your hard work is seen by a maximum audience. Sheesh!
  19. Okay, I get it already. You are proud of your country's military. Can we stop waving the flags for a second, lol. You are of course completely free to make any mod you want. No one is suggesting otherwise, lol.
  20. It is a shame that people take such a view instead of thinking about how could their work also fit into the original existing Arma design. Release a Huey addon for instance with Greek markings and release a Huey with American markings and see which one gets used more by map makers. I am not saying that the Americans are more interesting but it fits in better with all the rest of the existing original weapons and vehicles in Arma. No need for anyone to get defensive here, lol. I am Canadian and our country is certainly not represented by game developers either. I wish there was a way to change the title of this thread. When I made the thread I modified the title twice and didn't notice how badly I mangled it until after I posted. I wanted it to read "Are Mods For Different Countries A Bad Idea?"
  21. No of course not. Just like your posting won't necessarily change anyone else's opinion either, lol. It works both ways In the end I am putting out the idea that mod makers should think about releasing non-country specific versions of their addons/mods (by that I mean make a version that fits into Arma's theme). After they have done such fine work it seems silly to limit their audience.
  22. XSparky I understand what you are saying but to me a mod and addon are the same thing. It modifies the game or adds content in some fashion. A total conversion is just a larger collection of mods/addons that completely changes the look or feel of a game. As for making a mod/addon country specific when I look at screenshots of the "HWM-Greek" mod, as an example, I look at the model of the Huey and I think "wow, freaking fantastic work but I would prefer it to be American". Perhaps this is just me being too North American (I am Canadian) but when I think of a Huey I think of America in Vietnam. I would love to see the Huey released without the Greek markings so that people can use it in their regular Arma maps. Yes, I guess I am just being selfish but it would be great to have all the vehicles match with the existing countries in the game's story. I didn't mean to single anyone out. The HWM-Greek mod/addon was just a good example of what I was trying to communicate (no doubt badly).

    ArmA VOIP

So how long would that be then? 8 months? A year?

    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

Whomever said that hackers are no longer a problem was greatly mistaken!! Every single night I have played this week someone has shown up and ruined hours of gameplay. Come on BIS, fix this HUGE security hole already! Do you really expect us to trust you enough to invest in Arma 2?
