climatic changes, what do you think about that?

WHY? Â You're just throwing assertions about with nothing to back them up. The only reason that any measures taken would fail is if the measures don't go far enough. Â If change is happening because of human actions, stopping those actions will stop the effects of those actions. In any case, even if you were right (which you aren't, IMO) Â it still doesn't make any difference to the guy's argument in the video. Â The consequences of not taking action are far far far worse than the consequences of taking action and it being unnecessary. Nothing to back it up? Â Can you click and READ? Â I'm not sure how do deal with people like you, those that don't even understand the basis of your own argument. I guess you could call me a skeptical believer, but I have no patience for those that degrade the debate with ignorance. Just read and learn. Â I find it less than humorous that you debate me on a position that you can't even understand supports your own. The fact also remains that we may take hasty and plainly stupid actions that don't reduce the consequences. Read and learn...no more spoon feeding you. Â Guess this topic needs to die... Global Warming is Unstoppable and Humans are to Blame, says UN Report

    The Iraq thread 4

Are you sure? Â Wouldn't you rather leave the strategy of war to the military? Sure the politicians give limitations and guidelines. But I do believe that a lesson that should have been learned from Vietnam is that politicians don't make good tactical decisions. Â Politicians are good at making and negotiating Wars, but not fighting them. Sadly we claimed that we had learned that lesson but it seems otherwise.

climatic changes, what do you think about that?

I meant exactly what I said.  The premise that "if the climate change is caused by humans then it can be stopped by humans..." is flat out WRONG.  The same folks that insist there in undoubtable evidence that: a. Global Warming exists b. Humans are the cause ...also admit that any immediate actions could be fruitless.  This is not my version of the evidence, it's what was in the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) summary. In short, the belief is that immediate action will only reduce the negative consequences....maybe.  This was the same point I made in my previous post.  There is no guarantee that immediate and drastic changes will have the promised results of "saving the world."  Especially when you consider some of the asinine things the "Green" movement suggests like using CFL bulbs!!!!! And thus, you cannot rule out that maybe there are other significant environmental factors beyond the waste that humans produce. Meaning: We may put forth the "Cost $" as described in the video, and reduce the negative consequences of global warming. Or we may find out that Global Climate Change had less to do with humanity then we thought and be up sheet creek because we had not prepared for another possibility. If you still don't know what I mean read this article.  It also contains a link to the IPPC summary. Global Warming is Unstoppable and Humans are to Blame

climatic changes, what do you think about that?

Sorry but the "silver bullet" is a dud. The video is good. Â A well thought out argument with good reasoning. It does however leave one big hole in the presentation. Â Those that believe that Global Climate Change (GCC) is occuring, wheather they think it's man made or not, are not certain that anything can be done to stop it. Thus not all possibilities are included in his matrix. Â There is the possible out come of we do nothing and it happens, and that we do "everything" ........and it still happens. This by no means shatters his argument, but there is no guarantee that any "cost $" is a viable solution. So, deliberate and sensible thougt must be put in to how we are going to spend time and resources in preparing for an uncertain future. So far with things like blindly promoting the use of CFL bulbs that contain mercury, we are doing a poor job. It's not that i think he's wrong, its just that the same sensible approach as this guy has is vacant from those promoting "solutions."

If you can't catch or kill terrorists

I'm guessing this is far more complicated then it seems. Â I would think that the suits would have to be filed int he country that the "offender" resides. In this case it appears they are suing a bank, far easier then suing some shadow terrorist group eh? But if some "charity" was found to collecting money for terrorists, and somehow the $-trail could be traced to an act of terrorism...that would be an interesting case.

    Airshows

Speaking of airshows...I would love to see this guy perform at an airshow. Jet-man I have seen people use rockets, but this guy seems to have strapped 4 model jet engines on some light-weight stubby wings. I can imagine the military would see great SF insertion possibilities with this. Coolest thing I have seen in a while.

PC Discussion Thread - All PC related in here.

Well since it was whip-locked and a link was posted here. Yes it is possible to adapt an XBOX headset for use on a pc. The only way I know of is to rewire it with a USB plug. The person I know who has done this sounds just fine on TS, so it must work well if done right....

Xbox 360 wired headset - Jerry riggable as PC mic?

Yes it's possible. I know of someone who riggs the headsets for use on pc. I think he rewired it, but I'm not sure. I'll ask tomorrow on TS and then let you know.

climatic changes, what do you think about that?

I found this rather amusing considering the climate debate. Buenos Aires Gets First Snow Since 1918 "The snow followed a bitter cold snap in late May that saw subfreezing temperatures, the coldest in 40 years in Buenos Aires. That cold wave contributed to an energy crisis and 23 deaths from exposure." I guess this will be pointed to as evidence for both sides, but could it also be just business as usual?

    Transformers The movie (07.04.07)

Yes well there is of course a price. She rented some movie called Music and Lyrics that I will now have to sit through. I guess it was well worth the cost of watching a chick-flick...well maybe... About the sequel. While I have no doubt with the success of this movie there will be one, is there real word of this or just speculation?

Is video-game addiction a mental disorder?

Good question Dwarden. In fact that reminds me of a book I read a while back. If this topic interests you, then pick up and read "Got Game?" The authors are John C. Beck and Mitchell Wade, and it is published by the Harvard Business School Press. Essentially it discusses the emerging "gamer" generation in business and the effects that games have had on things like problem solving, and most notably how people take risks.
  15. If a child becomes a heroin addict, the parenting skills are called into question.  But now some try to contend that video games are as addictive as heroin, who's fault is it? The video games...  Read HERE>. Because you know if a parent pulls the plug at the first sign of a problem such as bad grades, that child will seek out blackmarket video games from lowly curbside dealers. Its time that excuses for bad parenting are shown for the croc they are. Sure, there are children and adults that truly develop a problem.  Same can be said for TV or any other stimulus, but for a child that is dependent upon an adult, that adult is responsible for all aspects of the childs life. From the article: “We battled him until October of last year,†she said. “We went to therapists, we tried taking the game away. “He would threaten us physically. He would curse and call us every name imaginable,†she said. “It was as if he was possessed.†Thats because your parenting skills suk!  This parent failed in their primary responsibility, and when it became a problem...well it could't be the parents fault...right? How do you "try" to take a game away from a 10th grader?  If you fail to control the video game usage of a dependent child that requires you to provide ALL their needs AND lives under your roof... ...than you are unfit to raise a child. This "problem" dose not highlight the "addictive nature" of video games, it highlights the ineptitude of some parents and the weakness in some adults. Some will disagree with me.  Ok before you attack my argument consider this.  This is not meant to be crude, it is simply an analogous example.  There is a condition known as masturbation addiction.  There are 2 reasons this occurs in humans.  1. In one people actually use stimulation as a drug due to the natural chemicals created that effect the brain.  It is identical in a manner to substance abuse.  No substence is actually used to alter the brain chemicaly, but in the case of video games, this article contends that they are used as a stimulus that becomes addictive in nature. 2. The second is due to a person's predisposition to a mental health problem such as obsesive compulsive disorder.  Let's leave it at that. The point being that both conditions are not caused by the act that becomes the so called "addiction" but is simply a manifestation of the underlying problem.  1. One being bad parenting, or the inability to recognize a problem and limit exposure.  2. Underlying mental health issues. So..the point is, "video game addiction" is not caused by the VIDEO GAME but the underlying factors that casues it to be the focus of the behavior. The uderlying factor being a total lack of parental control, or other real mental health issues.  The solution for this "problem" is for a parent to BE ENGAGED in your childs life.  If you miss the signs, please don't make more babies!  And if the problem is mental health issues such as bipolar disorder...get it treated BEFORE it becomes damaging to the future of the person suffering! It's like a parent blaming the pool for drowing their child.  The pool didn't sneak its way into the yard and burrow itself there.  The parent provided it!  And consequently the parents failure in their obligation is the cause of the result. ...thank you BIS for providing me a place to rant....sorry for the 3 mins you have spent reading this...considering where I am ranting maybe nobody disagrees..........I'm calm now

    Transformers The movie (07.04.07)

I made sure I didn't have overblown expectations before I saw it, and for a "control" I dragged my girlfriend with me. To my suprise, she loved it. Â I thought it was very entertaining. Â So I give it credit for appeasing a childhood Transformers fan AND having mass appeal, that certainly can't be easy to do. Sure you could knit-pick it to death, but I give them credit for making something that can be enjoyed by all. I give it a thumbs up! Â ***I also noticed the f-16s taking off and was given a "shhh" when I blurted out "Those aren't Raptors!" in a packed theatre.

Is video-game addiction a mental disorder?

Good post plantiff and I think you are correct about the proper method of dealing with such an issue. My beef with this issue is the fact that the parents in the articel claimed to be caught competely unaware. If that is true, then they failed in their primary obligation. If a parent is not activly engaged or at least aware of their child's activities, and a problem surfaces, the finger should be pointed not out but right back at the parent. This issue hits a nerve with me in the same way that the argument about violence in games does. If GTA 4 wouldn't sell bundles of copies to kids, they wouldn't bother making it. Yes the industry should act responsibly and regulate itself with warning lables and age restrictions on sales (if they don't the government will). But the buck stops with the parent. In college I worked at a game store before age rules on sales were made. I remember being verbally abused by a parent for not selling GTA 2 to a 13 year old boy, and making the parent come down and make the purchase. I wonder how fouled up that kid is now.

USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

Figures, considering Murdoch is now a Hillary Clinton supporter who has given buku bucks to her campaign. Slime tends to stick together. Murdoch and Clinton?..wha? However this movie was made durring the Bush-Kerry campaign. Try to stay current Espectro. Great line from the movie: "What they learn about the candidates will be what the media shows them, or tells them, decides not to show, or not to tell." I guess we won't hear anything about the Clinton's illegal campaign financing or links to InfoUSA. Won't see this on FOX. ...or this.

    06 -07 -07 Attempted London Bombing

Well it's not an entirely a stupid comment. Â Your right that if we didn't depend on oil they would still be content with just killing each other. Â But this is not some new trend. Do you remember a little something that happened in December 1988? To remind you, Palestinian terrorists blew up Pan Am flight 103 over the town of Lockerbie, killing 270 people. Sure, the West has stirred up the hornets nest since then. Â Since then the West has also taken in a mass of imigrants of which a few are willing to light them selves on fire...in the hope of killing an infidel, becoming a martyr, and getting 72 virgins in heaven...lol who writes this stuff? Â Sure dosen't sound like something "God" would come up with. No simple or pretty resolution to this cluster-f. Â The more crazed "victims" that blow themselves up, the nastier the response will be. Some have asked "Why London, why not America?" Â I don't know. Â My guess is why bother. Â America is ripping itself apart. Â Slaughtering Americans only pisses them off. Â And when you piss them off..they unite. Â History can tell you what happens when you kill a buch of Americans. Â Get Invaded or get Nuked. Â In some parts of America things would get very ugly if another mass casualty attack occured. Â Once again Americans would forget their petty squabbles and suddenly unite in the face of a common enemy. Â And Americans own alot of guns.

    ArmA is just ... disappointing

Agreed, some of the comments do really belong in the Awesome thread. I can understand being disappointed with the campagin, or accuracy of the modelling textures, bugs, armour ratios or lack options in the game and so forth. But if someone is disappointed for a reason that is not really the Game's fault and is more to do with their PC, then i think that it's not unreasonable for the other members of the community to try and shed a little light on what the real issue that's causing the distress with the game might be. The game is far from perfect but need people to take time to enquiry if they are able to solve technical problems that are causing them untold grief. Funny how anything that the forum gods like is just ignored while swatting the "whiners" like flies on.... Then again how can you enforce the rules you break. So for the next person who gets lost and wanders in here oblivious to the concept of the thread. Click here then begin your reply. As to follow the "rules" and submit something on-topic. I'm very disappointed with some of the problems that players are having with the Atari copy. This is not BIS issue..there I said it so don't get your panties in a bunch. Two people I played OFP with often have given up because the fixed .exe that was released was for 1.06. I don't even understand what the problem is...so I'm disappointed two more friends have written off BIS and ArmA for now.
