USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

That's not an applicable example. The Kremlin was, for the most part, a rational body. The ideologies of the US and the USSR may have differed greatly, but in the end both sides were sensible and wished to avoid nuclear apocalypse. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has given plenty of reasons for us to believe that he is, for practical purposes, batshit insane. For all that we know, he may very well see a nuclear apocalypse as the perfect way to bring back his beloved 12th Imam. Deterrance, after all, only works when both sides wish to avoid destruction.
  2. The artillery pieces you see in missions handle just like fixed AT guns. They'll clobber armored vehicles, but you can't move them.

    Christmas

Couldn't you just convert the textures to grayscale and punch up the contrast to create more varied winter ground textures?

    cant wait

There's nothing "immoral" about downloading a game through a legal Buy & Download system. Go for it! Note - I bought and downloaded ArmA through the online distributer a day ago. Took a night to download, but it plays like a dream on my system (Which is comparable to yours, only with one 512MB gfx card).

Is Armed Assault Dead on Arrival?

Well, if you make sweeping assumptions, you could "prove" any argument. Who says that the OFP community will shrink with ArmA's release? Are you an expert in marketing?

Is Armed Assault Dead on Arrival?

Weird, I'd never go back to OFP after playing ArmA.

    ArmA Photography

View off of Pico de Perez (North Sahrani). Taken with no overcast and a 10000 meter viewdistance (Surprisingly, framerate wasn't even that bad). Image is completely non-edited, I just aimed my gun at the ground, looked up, and took a screen capture. A foot patrol in Northern Sahrani.

    Where to buy ??

Well, the only problem is that the German -> English Translations need a little work . The editor's fine, but some of the campaign dialogue is a little bit odd.

    Where to buy ??

Yes, I downloaded it successfully. Installation is easy, you just type in your two codes (You get two after you pay) and the installation itself is very simple (The menus are simple, and fluency in German is unnecessary).
  11. Not to mention, they'll look pretty fugly in ArmA unless someone redoes the textures.

    Where to buy ??

Well, I've downloaded a file approximately that size on a dial-up. It's just a matter of patience .

    Americans unite!

Speaking of which, does anyone know of an online shop that an American can buy a Czech copy from?

    Americans unite!

I may very well order a Czech version. I haven't heard of any ArmA-related Starforce problems, so it sounds acceptable to me. I would have gone with the German version, but I'd rather have a working Starforced Czech copy than a nonworking German copy.

It sure does: Wait, there's more to come! Yes, and calling someone's argument "xenophobic" directly attacks the person in question. Unless you really want to play complex games of semantics, calling someone's arguments/beliefs "xenophobic" is tantamount to calling that person a "xenophobe" (AFAIK that's not a compliment). He is? Please, cite statistics proving that people "commit violent crimes in a house where there is an assault rifle".

Well, I can't speak for the others, but I know that Jefferson pragmatically supported some semblance of Christian worship in order to maintain societal integrity. Why is it funny? The first colonies here were founded to be a "City on A Hill" (aka a religious wonderland) that was supposed to impress Europeans to the point where they would then emulate America. Others have been made law at lower levels (For example, there are places in the US where you can be arrested for making a purchase of any item on a Sunday). In other cases, laws are not explicitly religion-based, but religion inevitably enters at some level, often the judicial. For example, until 1967, miscegenation was banned in a number of states, and religion entered into state court decision on the matter. As an example, there were decisions with comments like this: "Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, Malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix." In another example of religion-influenced law, 13 US states had legally banned sodomy at the time of the 2003 SCOTUS decision which overruled all such laws. Even at such a late date, the ruling was seen as controversial in many conservative circles.

All right, let's look at what I originally quoted: "so is he supposed to blindly follow narrow minded xenophobic ideas of conservatives? I guess being a muslim group and/or attending such function is terrorist supporting." In this, you accuse him of being a knee-jerk anti-Islamist, as well as implying that Sophion's conservative views are "xenophobic". Though you didn't quote reach calling him "anti-Arab", "xenophobe" is certainly an example of ad hominem debating tactics. "Straw man" may not have been the best term for the logical fallacy in your argument. However, since much of your argument appeared to depend on the false assumption that CAIR really has no connections to terrorist organizations, you ended up building a baseless argument that people criticizing CAIR were somehow irrationally prejudiced against it.

Gee, a straw man argument and playing the race card. Personally, I'd say that CAIR's funding of HLF (Front group which funded Hamas), not to mention the unfortunate tendency for its financiers and leaders to be caught contributing to various other terrorism-funding organizations, is enough to justify regarding the organization with a degree of suspicion. A travesty? Gee, maybe he was there to check it out. And CAIR does have strong connections to Hamas, so trivializing it as "whining babies" is deceptive.

BIS, Armed Assault, and north america

You can't tell that from looking at a forum. Personally, I doubt there are enough North American customers on this forum to guarantee a profitable production run.

This game is just crying out for some guerrilla fighters. Though I have to say that the ArmA units in those pics looked amazing.

Well, there's no reason to "liberate" the country if all we want is some oil. Just send in the Marines to secure a perimeter around a large oil field and start pumping oil out to tankers in the Persian Gulf. No messy insurgency or civil wars, just pure sweet crude.
