Stuck trying to join a multiplayer server.
SlurrpyChillyFries replied to Tajin's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
my side usually completes receiving data, screen switches to loading for a bit, then switches back to the setup screen. the mouse becomes useless and have to navigate to disconnect with my arrow key. for 1 of 12 attempts, after hanging at "receiving data" for a minute, pressing the primary attack key begins my online experience. -
please please please allow me to fire a weapon out of the window of a truck or hmv. i always feel so stupid when a truck is getting eaten up and im in it, and there is no way to shoot back, just some suppressive fire would have helped in a lot of my situations. out of a heli would be cool but i understand if the hardcores do not want it.

SlurrpyChillyFries replied to (FPC) Bacon's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
what hardware do you have? nforce 4 chipset? i have not had the problems, but other ppl report crashing in mp with the nforce 4 chipset when using onboard lan. its a long shot and i doubt it but pleasea post your system specs. oh, and is this error an access violation, or a write to read only memory...there should be a little more to that error. -
i would say you are at the threshold of your power requirements. i think if you upgraded your graphix card or bolted another card onto your mother board, this reboot problem will come back. i run both onboard sound and my x-fi at the same time with no problems (i know i know, but x-fi doesnt work in linux yet, and i spend too much time there). please check your power supply and the power draw of your system to see how much head room you have. today you should be running no less than 400 watts on a modern pc.

1.08 POOR PERFOMANCE!!! HELP!
SlurrpyChillyFries replied to catito14's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Why would he want to do that? Best to set page file to 2Gig for that amount of RAM. because windows is piss poor at managing swap. if the page file is activated your program will use swap and there is nothing you can do about it. unlike linux that wont use swap until you run out of memory. if you have 2 gigs plus, i recommend enabling the "DisablePaginExecutive" and enable "LargeSystemCache". the first option prevents the kernel and driver code from being paged to disk, the second one allows windows to utilize more memory to hold shared files like dlls, or commonly read files. if on xp all you really need to do is disable the pagefile, the above is for windows 2000. -
Anyone in XP without the "fog/haze"?
SlurrpyChillyFries replied to spetznaz14's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
what i dont understand is that, i tried the 1.05 beta patch and the fog issue was resolved for me...now im back to where i started...when i move the vd slider path 1000, i notice not other objects on the horizon, so i would say i am capped at 1000 for now. i just dont get it...i hate regressions in software. -
i have no solution, but, my night vision flicks between no night vision, and night vision about 30 times a second when i zoom in using the goggles. it seems to happen more when i am close to buildings or trees. just registering my complaint...sorry i can not offer you anything.

Forceware 160.02 + 8800 + ARMA nice combo
SlurrpyChillyFries replied to mac_4ps's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
be careful, an equaly prices amd is still keeping up and out pacing (in some instances) duo in game benchmarks...especially the serious sam 2 engine...athlon has a 10% lead over intel. look at the engine you use the most and then make your decision. -
Forceware 160.02 + 8800 + ARMA nice combo
SlurrpyChillyFries replied to mac_4ps's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
i wouldnt worry about ddr2, core 2 duo is using ddr2 but athlon's built in memory controller gives you 20% performance increase as it runs at full clock speed. -
thats funny, i didnt have this problem until i reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled xp...now after 20-030 minutes of play, i crash back to the desktop with that error. i used to be able to play for hours, same version of dx, same driver revision for all hardware. i should note that im using a gts 8800 not an ati.
-
i installed the new forceware drivers and my games feels much better. i must state that i did reformat and reinstall xp after a 4 year install of win2k upgraded to xp (and ran xp for another 2 years, and yes, windows did keep it together) so im sure there was a tremendous amount of cruft in the system...so take it with a grain of salt.

linux, wine and arma?
SlurrpyChillyFries replied to SlurrpyChillyFries's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
thanx man, i will venture down that avenue. -
i have tried to get the dedi server up and running with wine...have tried everything to no avail. has anybody been able to get this to work? the copy protection is getting in the way. cedega? i dont know, have not used it in a year or so. anybody know how to get around the copy protectoin wait wait wait mr. moderator...i dont want to pirate the game, just need to get my server back up and all i have left is a handful of linux boxes that can no longer be down graded to winbloz. plus trying to add patches and stuff to a windows server is harder than it should be (aka harder than in linux).

well, i know you think that switching to a dmz will make all things better but there are facets of packet routing that can still confuse the router. for example, if you have 2 clients going to the same ip address coming from the same client/server side port, without proper packet inspection code (ftp handling), it will not work, the router will not be able to determine the destination behind the nat for the packet, and will most likely get it wrong. im not saying that is what is happening here, it isnt, but dont be lulled into the false sense of security by turning your box into a dmz, there are still things that can happen. and yes, the gamespy reports are udp. as stated, i had too many problem hosting a server on 2302 and connecting to remote server on 2302 while using "RELATED" state matching in my firewall.

Worst Performance EVER!
SlurrpyChillyFries replied to Swedish_-_M@ssacre's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
you do not have enough brain power to go much above 60 fps. at least i dont. this is why in any high speed racing class, they always teach you to steer your car towards the crash, its because your brain cant process the visual images quick enough so by you trying to avoid the crash in front of you, you end up hitting those cars because the accident has already moved a great deal from where your brain perceives the accident, ask any racer, i work with 40+ of them once a month at the drag track. -
Multiple instances of ArmA in a server
SlurrpyChillyFries replied to CoolDead's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
are these servers separated by ports? they are both using the same ports? depending on how the server binds to its port, it could allow for port reuse. have no idea if this is the case. my server runs on a non standard port (23020) as i was having weird interactions when i would connect to a remote server with my client. -
which ports are you forwarding? what i have seen on my end is that ppl could connect but they would stall at the "wait for server" screen. in my firewall logs i noted packets being dropped from some ip address (cant remember) but coming from a port 27901, i also saw in my logs that my server was sending udp data to this port, so, once i forwarded source port 27901 to my arma server, all of my connection problems went away. at the time i couldnt find documentation from bi stating this port needed to pass through, but in my testing it has to. try sending source port 27901 to your arma server. sorry...i read this incorrectly. i thought you had a server, well, all i can say is monitor your dropped packet logs to see if you are discarding packets. have no idea how to do it in a linksys product, i use iptables at home for my firewall so i cant help you there.

Worst Performance EVER!
SlurrpyChillyFries replied to Swedish_-_M@ssacre's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
well, im adding my 2 cents. with all settings at normal (antialias off) and post process to low, vsync forced off, amd x2 3800 2 gigs of ram with no swap, gts 8800 at 1680x??? (cant remember not used to widescreen res yet) and a view distance of 1000m i would like to believe that i could get better than 15 fps. no matter what i do the framerate doesnt move, unless i jack everything to high, then ill loose 5 fps. i can move the res to 800X600 and i get a decent framerate...but that is not what i bought. i think the point that is trying to be made is that when your system exceeds the recommended specs by a despairingly large gap, you would like to think you can play closer to the high end of its settings or at recommended system settings and blaze its performance. im sick and tired of hearing ppl with lesser computers telling the ppl with better computers, thats what you get for buying top of the line (they use more words than that)...i say kiss my ass, that is the most childish, jealous response i have ever heard. Swedish_-_M@ssacre's machine is in proper working order, there is probably drivers and an arma patch that he needs (as well as i) but he/she should be able to play this game with normal to high settings and obtain a playable framerate (50 fps or more). i know Swedish_-_M@ssacre is drawing conclusions with improper data but stop trying to invalidate his point of half the machine running higher framerates at similar settings. this is happening to me right now, my clan mate runs higher fps at the same exact settings as i, and he runs a p4 2.8 gz with a 7950 and i have an x2 3800 with a 8800. there is no reason this should be happening. and yes, i understand how to build and tweak a computer, i have been doing it for 12 years now and that is enough time for even a dumb ass to figure it out. btw Swedish_-_M@ssacre, i want to rub one out on your floppy drive dude, that system is bang up! -
i know its way too late to work into arma but for the next installment of this whip @55 game, could it be possible to have a small dot in the middle of the view which acts upon track ir input not mouse input? this would be benificial for ppl getting used to the track ir (as sometimes you slightly lean to one side and loose momentum) and it would possibly allow someone to look to their left (any direction), place the dot on a person/target to reveal the same information as placing your crosshairs on a target? i really like being able to look around while not impacting the player's momentum but really annoying that i cant see the name on a friendly while running in a direction and looking in a different direction. am i pumping a dry well here? dang it!!!! i posted this to the wrong forum...admin, could you move this for me?

thanx for the post troop. that explains why i have not been able to rearm a shilka or vulcan in kp cti.
-
dude, i have had crazy problems in the game with rearming. on a cobra it seems to take about 2-3 minutes. on m1 seems to gake about 30 seconds. just keep messing around with it. i have found that driving gthe ammo truck about 300 yards from the vehicle in question, then driving back to it usually allows me to rearm that vehicle. i have noticed this even more in kp cti addon.
