And why is it hard to believe? To be honest, I think that since ARMA screwed up in the beginning (the most important time to attract people), Codemasters has a huge chance to exploit BIS's mistakes. They have the funds, so all they need to do is find a good developer team. Thats not so hard to do now. And remember photos of a game back in the day that looked like OFP but was developed by a different company. Forgot what it was called.. but you get the point. All they need to do is release something good before BIS fully fixes ARMA (which will take a while). So they still have a chance. Plus, the best products out there are as a result of competition. So competition wouldn't be too bad for the community : ) Also, their OFP2 website is updated saying it will be released in 08. So if they took their time to update, I think they at least have some interest in it.

Well any evidence that people are returing the game a lot? I heard rumors, but can't find any eveidence.

http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=fw_RedOrchestra Try it out : )

The tank battles really hooked me up. No other game even comes close. The closest thing I could think of is the Liberation mod for OFP. But that lagged really bad, so it was still different.

Hey, don't worry, Bis is not the only one suffering. Some dude was whining to codemasters about game 2 (codemasters forum) It was quite funny. Browse forums. By the way, I noticed that Codies updated their OFP2 website and changed the release date to 2008. Bis also did so. So there might be some real competition this time.

Thats difficult in dedicated servers with no admins around, don't you think?

Its funny how there are more people bashing the so call "whiners" in this thread then the "whiners" that most just post once and leave. (to show their point). If ARMA multiplayer has the same activity as this forum, then no words left. I guess you all wanted the "complainers" to go so this is the result. Hope your happy playing with yourself later.

Did somebody say nvidia 9800? This thread is so funny

Why should I be forced to play infrantry only maps? Then how exactly is it superior to OFP. Its inferior in then.

It depends on your definition of "playable" By certain standards, every game out there no matter how awful is "playable" To me its unplayable for the reasons: 1. Chopper and plane controls. Sure you can fly, but they are readlly bad and I won't waste my time trying to get used to it, because theres nothing to get used to. You can play tennis with a square ball also, but that doesn't mean people actually play it. 2. Dogfighting online against other "human" players is impossible now. In either planes or choppers. In other words, what I liked most about OFP (flying online with friends and dogfighting, as well as playing flying missions) is gone in ARMA. So yes, to me is unplayable.

I believe ARMA will be fixed, no doubts. And no, I'm not negative either, but I'm not denaying that the game has problems like many people (redstorm for example). And I'll most likely play it online once the major problems are fixed. But thats not the point. The OFP community will do that and play it no matter what, but the new gamers that are coming in won't wait for BIS to fix it. They will give up right away. And thats when the sad part comes in. JIP will have no point because there won't be enough people playing. One of the reasons I stoped playing OFP online is because of the lack of players, and I don't want ARMA to end up like that. Sorry if I'm being too negative, but to me thats honestly how I feel. And its hard saying it because I don't want this game to end up like that.

And you know that how? There are at least 100 known bugs in ARMA, and that doesn't include the air dynamics flaws which ruin the gameplay. 505 will release in the UK in about 2-3 months. Now don't get me wrong, but knowing how long it usually takes developers to fix bugs, theres no way BIS will fix even half of that in the given time. Only the air dynamics will most likely take a few months to fix, if they want to make something good. Take Stalker for example. They've been fixing bugs for about a year now. Thats why they didn't release. Look at Medieval total war 2. It doesn't even have 1/4th the number of bugs as in ARMA, but still a month plus passed, and they didn't relaese a patch. And a patch was announced before it was even released. And to people talking about potential, well let me tell you about potential. Most of the games released have "potential" Potential doesn't mean much when most of the people abandon the game in the first months. It doesn't matter if great mods will release on the engine in 3 years from now. The greatest threat to ARMA is the lack of players. If it will take a year to get the game playable, then only the hardcore fans will play, because most people will leave.

Thanks for the reviews. Hopefully more will follow.

Where do you get this from? And did the community say "Change the flight model no matter how cappy you make it, just change it?" Stop blaming the community.
-
Any new reviews? Now that it was released in Germany.
-
What the hell are you talking about? Have you even played OFP?
-
Well the flight dynamics are not realistic, not fun to fly, just plain wrong. OFP was not hardcore realistic either but it was more realistic than other FPS's out there. And most importnatly it was fun and enjoyable. Anyway, any new reviews from mags or gaming sites?
-
Stop bashing other games. You won't like people saying the same for ARMA would you? And joint ops may be crap, but more people play it online than OFP or ARMA.
-
It doesn't matter what ARMA has to offer as long as you don't enjoy it now does it? And 95% of the people don't enjoy flying in arma because of the flawed dynamics. That says it all. And that goes for any game.

Whatever plaintiff. Theres one way to solve this, and that is for the Cameron to clear it for us.

What I meant with the function is to give an example and make a point. Like I said, they don't look similar locally (with small values), but globally (with large values) they become identical. Everything else but the x^2/x^3 becomes insignificant. Therefore the larger the value, the more identical to 1/x. Anyway the point is that in ARMA, the choppers look different, but the way they act is very very similar because of the code that they share. Unfortunately this is true with planes and choppers. So saying the physics are wrong for the MI-17 and right for everything else is just not right. But like I said, I doubt the physics are realistic for the choppers. They don't act right and it seems they share the same (or very identical) code as the planes. But feel free to show some videos that disprove all the other videos about the choppers so far.
-
Graph the functions then get back to me. You will see what I mean. Different locally, similar globally
-
LOL you're so screwed up, buddy. Obviously trolling? I dunno. He said the flight model for helicopters is good on the whole, but he didn't like the way the mi-17 flew. Difficult to understand? I didn't think so... but I guess... So let's spell it out. There's a difference between rules and properties. The flight model is a set of rules that interprets certain properties that each helicopter has. Some properties of the helicopters are the same, in that they are able to fly, and some are different, like their weight and control sensitivity. He likes the RULES and probably the PROPERTIES for some helicopters, but not the PROPERTIES of the mi-17. Correction, he said the physics are wrong, and there are enough videos to prove that. ARMA is just a game. It doesn't have a sophisticated code for each helicopter in the game. In fact the codes are similar with few irrelevant changes. So is not the MI-17 thats the problem, is the way the air dynamics is coded. This is seen in every chopper, but because of the size of the MI-17, it makes it more obvious. But let me make it simple for you. Take the function f(x): x^2+2x-4/x^3+x+5 Locally it looks completely different from 1/x, very different, but globaly its similar to 1/x. In fact, very similar. Same concepts with the air dynamics in ARMA.

Would you people stop trying to compare arma vehicles to real life vehicles? Because all they have in common are the names, shapes and weapons. For example the harrier doesn't take off vertically like its supposte to. If Bis can't even simulate that right, stop argueing that they did the flight system on purpose to simulate real flying. The flying system is bad and needs fixing no matter what you guys say.
-
By saying helicopter control system, he obviosly didn't mean the BUTTONS you use to fly the copter as they can be custom changed. He meant the way the helicopter handles, and thats the same as the physics.
