You might want to try the OFP demo and see how the movements work for you. The movements are very different than ARMA and better implemented (in my opinion). I also dislike the way they tried to simulate momentum (which by the way is done in a horrible way)
-
Just like ofp, it has to be scripted.
-
Well, In ARMA, there is no reactive armor on either tank.
-
Sorry If I made you guys look bad. All I'm saying is that no matter how colorful some people make the flying look, won't change the fact that the physics are all wrong. And they said they'll fix it, so lets hope for that and wait.
-
You will make a vid of landing on a rooftop. What a great accomplishment This doesn't change the fact that choppers don't behave right. And how can you say "it feels realsitic" when in your first sentence you said you don't know anything about realism?
-
Some of the people complaining are just apalling..

Your thread is useless. It just wasted space on this forum. Your telling us that everything below a 7200 is obsolete. What planet do you live on? -
No thanks, If I wanna use a console controler, I'll buy and play a console game. And the reason I don't want to buy a joystick is because I hate switching every time I get in a chopper or out of a chopper. If OFP was able to overcome this, ARMA should too. Or else it will lose a lot of players.

Yeah, its better to redownload.
-
Thats why steam works better. But anyway, there are many reasons why it can be corrupt. Ever thought of your memory being corrupt? Run a memory test and see if you get any errors. Just saying because I had the same problem once with zip files, and it was because I had errors on a memory module.
-
Hopefully your right
-
For a usermade patch, its really good.
-
The reason is because they didn't find a global publisher. If what your saying is true, BIS wouldn't have released on sproket (sp) or whatever the online distribution is called. And its not up to us to debate and find excuses for why the game is in this state. I expected something better story wise, gameplay wise, and AI wise. The only thing that met my expectations were the graphics (which I cared little of).

Nobody said OFP was perfect. But ARMA has major major bugs. The fact that Suma said they are completely reworking the helicopter air dynamics should ring a bell to all of you. But I'm done argueing. If you think OFP was more bugged, and ARMA is the standard for you (in terms of quality), then good for you. If you think otherwise, also good for you.
-
Seriously theres also no need for people like you to say ARMA is perfect of less bugged then OFP (which is false). And since when is soldiers not having pistols a bug?
-
OFP 1.0 was not as buggy and mest up as ARMA. They didn't have to rework the helicopter code or any code in OFP 1.0. They do in ARMA, wonder why? Resistance didn't have any serious bug or flaw that takes away gameplay. There was a flaw in the code of Res that could delete windows, but it was so rare, that it was really insignificant. And I doubt anybody experienced it.
-
are you flying with a joystick? Because with the mouse planes suck to fly. That wasn't the case for OFP And I refuse to fly with a joystick.
-
Just pretend your playing star wars
-
You can clearly see that the choppers handle like planes. I mean, the dude barely turned a few angles the whole time. If you see flight videos of choppers in real life you clearly see thats not how they fly.

Why do you guys act as if BIS is the only company in the world that can pull off an OFP like game. Heck, OFP isn't even impressive anymore compare to other games. That was true back in the day, but not anymore. Take a look at WW2 online for example. Theres also a D-day game in the making (was also a HL2 mod) People said the same think at the Doom3 engine without knowing anything. And look it at now, it runs enemy territory quake wars on maps that are consider pretty big for the level of graphics and the type of gameplay. Your all pretty naive to think that BIS is the only one in the world to achieve something like ofp, especially since were talking about the future here. Now that Unreal 3 engine is coming out, the ARMA engine is getting quite obsolete in terms of what it can deliver (other than massive maps, which by the way are useless in MP games since you play in a limited field anyway) A red orchestra like game on the Unreal 3 engine with air and sea vehicles (which is possible), and 5x maps (which is also possible), would pretty much be above arma in anything other than super large maps (which as I stated above, don't offer much to gameplay since you play in a limited field by default.)

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?
Stealth3 replied to drakaan's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
You guys should review something on what it is, not on what it will be in the future (expectations) Or else don't complain about pro reviewers. To be fair, you have to review it that way. -
Well for me, its how the player moves. I think its been realized way better and in a more simple way in OFP. But to that I can get used to. Its the air dynamics and controls that I can't get used to, because they are wrong. Flying a lot in OFP, with friends online, this ruined it for me. ARMA feels like your controling a robot. While in OFP, I felt like I was a soldier taking part of the action. That feeling is gone now. And I don't think you can simulate life like animations in a game like this and pull it off right. Some things just can't be simulated in a PC game. But they didn't try to "simulate" anything related to what where talking, as there's much evidence of that. Player movements and momentum would be the last thing you expect for a game to simulate, since they are probaly the hardest to get right. And they don't add much to the gameplay in the first place if you ask me. Your telling me that BIS tried to simulate breathing while they couldn't simulate vertical take off on the harrier?
-
No, its nothing like OFP. Even the campaign is different. OFP campaign had a story, a feel to it. ARMA campaign is worse than most user made campaigns (no offence to bis), and is far too short, even compared to resistance. Other things.... oh yeah, the controls, feel just wierd for the majority of players (that is if you play online against human players). I guess for playing coop only, the controls aren't that bad as the AI is slow to react, and you don't need to react as you do with a human player. But even for that OFP's controls and feel was superior. The way vehicles act are just not fun to use at all. Centered camera, the mouse. The air dynamics are completely mest up, and even if I get used to them (most likely I won't), I can never see myself playing against anybody other than the AI. Now lets leave out the bugs, because bugs are bugs and can be fixed, even by the community. But the things listed above can't be fixed so easily. They will probably never be fixed, maybe just twicked. But they will never feel close to what OFP felt, unless they completely rework it out and this time actually do it well. And for people saying the controls are realistic, they have no idea what their talking about. Controls should be as simple as possible, and realism should be enforced by forcing the player to adopt to tactics. That would be realistic. Not making the controls unecessary hard. Now when I say hard, I don't mean hard when you play against AI. Just hard when you play against human players. Why do you think cars, and pretty much every machine has controls that are as easy as possible. Making something hard doesn't simulate realism, for the last time.

LoL twisted. Why is it that most of old ofp fans ( you can look at date of the registration) dislikes the game in its current states, and the new people who probably barely played ofp come in here saying "If you don't like simulators leave"
-
What if you have seen that?
-
Graphically Yes, sound intesive, no way in hell. red orchestra sounds are light years ahead of ARMA's. It doesn't matter if the map is more limited because that has nothing to do with the sound!
