Both assault rifles and cars kill and wound people when used wrong way. And cars kill more. So please explain why people often argue on things that give less harm and like things that give more harm? Again I may tell that about 30K dies in car accidents, and far less in accidents involving guns. I can name thousands of accidents caused by immature driving errors but only few accidents with immature guns handling. First ones I see every week, second ones I see barely once a 3-4 months. But despite this even in my country officials started to speculate about gun laws restrictions after recent massacre in US. Why don't they say about car engine restrictions after 11 died at once in recent car accident in Kamchatka region? Earlier 7 children died in another accidents killed by drunken douchebag on Toyota mark II. But nobody cares. Cars are sold no matter of any accident. But if any accident involving guns happens, first what I hear - "Remove guns from the market!!!!11". Why is it?

The purpose of the gun is to take away hostile object - either human or any animal (wild dog for example). Will it be lethal or non-lethal injury - it fully depends on the situation. So if most of the countries aren't save heavens then it means you have to have something to give you an ability to be safe or help other to be safe. As for cars purpose - yes, you need them to get to the destination. But you may get either on Chevrolet Spark or Ford Ka or on Lincoln Navigator, Land Cruiser 200, Nissan Patrol/Infiniti QX56 or sportcars (many of them are double-seaters only and have almost no space for cargo and passangers). Both serve the one purpose but the first ones can harm less people in the accident than second ones because of lesser weight and speed. While trying to increase security some countries outlaw automatic fire ability, limit capacity of magazines, restrict calibers or gun models available on the market. They think that a person wanting to buy something they concider dangerous (AR-15 for example) will try to commit a crime with it, abilities of the gun will make him think that crime will be easy to do. But at the same time nobody thinks that fast, heavy and modern car will make its owner think he is in the space shuttle and nothing will hurt him with all modern fancy systems providing extra help and easiness for driving.

Many of car accidents are happen because of driving above speed limit. At least in my country. So it seems like many drivers ignore permitted speed limits. This results in thousands of dead and wounded every year. Attention, here's the question: why haven't all the cars that may ride more than 60 km/h got banned? Yesterday one drunken douchebag drove in the crowd and killed 11. But nobody wanted to ban all the cars that may drive that fast and thus kill so many people at once. If someone shot the same amount of people than many of us start ranting about either total gun ban or severe restrictions (no high capacity mags/foldable stocks/long barrel/automatic fire etc). Meh, one man said (he moved to Caucasus three years ago) that all the local jihadists just kids regarding death toll compared with cars and the accidents with them. He said "If you want to kill all the locals - just give all of them free cars and they do all the work in a half of the year!". Moreover, just plain numbers may tell you that more people die in such accidents that because of guns. But still we can easily buy 600 hp heavy SUV that can ram dozens of people at once and kill them instantly. And noone can say for sure that its owner won't be ever drunken or high or become mentally unstable.

Heh, how modern society is dependant on all the sportcars, luxury SUVs and all the cars that can ride with twice more speed than permitted on the highway? Had dikk measurement become vital part of our life?:D

Look at amount of people got killed or badly wounded during car accidents. But nobody wants to ban cars with too powerful engines, ban private cars at all or something similar. Why? Speaking about my country about 30000 people die annually in car accidents. It's twice more than our army lost during 10 years of warfare in Afghanistan! But nobody cares. Nobody wants to forbid people having their own cars. And if somewhere, even in other country one idiot kills somebody with a gun a shitestorm appears in a minute, and many people scream about gun ban, restriction of magazine capacity, stocks etc. But shouldn't we ban cars with more than 70-75 hp engine at first? So people won't have an ability to drive more than 60 km/h and kill pedestrians and other drivers, eh?

Well, it's the matter of taste and choice. Most of heavy SUVs or sportcars aren't used for driving in the countryside or racing during all their service life. But they are sold and bought despite of this fact. People buy 300-400 hp cars and then drive only at the cities or travel between them abiding speed limits and thus using barely 20-30% of their car potential. Frankly speaking every car that has more than 150 hp engine is just useless if you don't travel at long distances. The same goes to the guns. Oh, and regarding recent debates about gun laws caused by that school shoot... Hey, people, you kill each other but not guns. Fight the will to kill itself but not the tools to do it. If a person wants to kill he won't stop because of the lack of legal gun. He will grab the axe, kitchen knife, or even pencil and go. Even my Parker, made of aluminium, may be used as weapon.

If some media outlet writes something against the government then it just belongs to other camp. That does not mean it is truly free. You may be not imprisoned but fired by your employer and not find any good place to work because of his/her ties with other businessmen or officials if things you wrote about harmed his/her interests. And I doubt what is worse - jail or the revenge of your former boss, especially if he/she has wide ties around. So for me 'free press' sounds like 'pure democracy/socialism/communism' - utopy that never been anywhere, just definition from the dictionary.

Okay let me explain once again why free press is a myth. Every media outlet has an owner. So at first it writes about things that at least will not harm the owner's interests. Also media owners often have other activities and business in other economy branches. In other words they belong to exact businessmen, medium- or big-class, and they write about things that good for its owner at first. And what is good for media outlet owners does not equal good for other people and resemble real truth. It's owner's (and his friends') interests at first and truth at second. BTW, can you explain the phrase "free press"? Free from what or from who, I wonder? From state control? P.S. I don't even say that every article passes through editor in every outlet. So everything you read is corrected at least once by some person.
