Yes, If it isnt Game 2 as we know it, this will sadly, may be the end of BIS. I mean in my little world, you have my friends, all who bought ArmA, all who stopped playing ArmA and went back to OFP claiming they can wait with OFP untill Game 2 (ArmA 2) comes out. I myself like that we now have compitition between two companys. So the race is on. I only wish BIS would create a whole new engine... Anyways, I have 99% faith left in BIS, please dont kill me further... Edit: And really, why some people are pissed, imho, is that they can see the potential, but its like trying to teach a special ed kid math or somthing... Edit 2: And also, BIS needs to work on their PR, i mean, even Flight Simulator has better PR than that...

Hooah!!! THANK YOU BIS!

Hell yes this is what ive been waiting for!

Sadly I too have stoped playing ArmA, for one reason I sold my "gaming" computer, the other for the same petty reasons everyone mentions, it grows on you... anyways I still hope ArmA will become great, and I still love it, but untill i then I probobly wont play it as much unless theres a unit practice or mission like that.

Im not wondering that. What I am wondering is why doesnt BIS think it will make profit? They can still keep the OPTION to have the Arcade side of the game, just like Flight Simulator has Realism settings... I dont know if i am saying that correctly or if you get what im trying to say, I know I use FS as an example, but they make a profit out of Realism, why cant BIS? Sure MS is a multibillion dollar company, but BIS has to get there some how right? EDIT: Thats it My F5 button needs a rest, iam putting too many commas lol

IF they really get it, then they could of asked their "partner" if they could use the same engine funtionality... I can fix my own post thank you very much, IF I deemed it worthy. Furthermore, ArmA and OFP should be a sim, and I am confident most others feel this way, not all mind you, but most. Why else would people be complaining about realism all the time? If i seem abrupt, its late and a little sleepy... Edit: Ha! just one look at my last line there shows i need some sleep

And what BIS really imho doesnt get, is just that, people want the simulator... its the same reason people buy Flight Simulator. I know they wouldn't make money on the licensing, but couldnt they restrict mass usage? I dont know but anyways, I hope we can get more simulation, its what makes Flight Simulator fun.

lol but VBS2 has everything ArmA has.

Fastroping Addons Thread

Love that Helo Sakura-chan -
@Baddo Yeah you bring up a very good point, what we need to do is promote the communication of addon makers, which in my opinion, wont be hard. Why? Well because I believe that no one has actually initiated, i dont think anyones too proud to not work with other people.

Can you make an ArmA or OFP2 mod for Crysis?
sniper pilot replied to Kevlar2007's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Notice you only mentioned graphically And ArmA eats up more performance than any other game.. plus the 'forests' dont really look like forests to me, i think they looked better in OFP:Resistance personally, with the improved trees in ArmA i think they could have looked a bit better. Dont get me wrong though, ArmA IS beautiful, u only need to look at the screenshots section to see that, but you need a top notch PC to get the max settings, and even then you wont get good frames. Plus some people have great systems with 8800s and such and they get worse frames than people with lesser systems (for unknown reasons). What i love BIS for though, is their patches The forests in ArmA, imho, look better than the forests in Oblivion, and thats saying something! Have you ever cranked the graphics to full everything? It looks nice but it runs worse than a powerpoint presentation... -
Hell no! Sorry if I sound blunt but that's just not going to work. I've said this earlier and I say it again: you either buy a game engine or you buy a game. I buy games, not game engines made by BIS. Changing their business plan so dramatically now could very well end up in a disaster. If game development is really what you want to do then there are for example free open-source components which you can use to start making your own games, even commercial games, if that's what you really want to be doing. I'm sorry to say this but so many of the addons released, even if people worked very long and hard on them, are nowhere near the professional quality which BIS is able to reach. There are exceptions but the general rule is that addon makers do not reach professional quality level. I certainly do appreciate a lot the work people put into creating addons, but quite often the content doesn't fit well into the game OFP/ArmA because quality is not good enough and the quality difference to the original content is too big to be acceptable. Solution is definitely not to have all content created by the community. Again, I'm sorry I had to say this but that's how it is in reality. About the topic physics. I think ragdoll physics could fix a problem I have been somewhat annoyed of when playing ArmA: dead bodies can have their feet high up in the air or something similar, depending on the location they happen to be in. Does not look natural at all. More natural would be if the body would follow the ground. This could maybe be achieved with a ragdoll-type death, restricted and dampened movement so that it doesn't look stupid as others here have said can be a problem, and then the body would settle to follow the ground and after that the whole ragdoll physics for the unit could be turned off. You didn't get my point pal, I meant, The game should be completely open to mod, Crysis states that it is, and Crysis is not just an engine. Thats what I meant by community made, I SHOULD of said Community Accessible. And are you kidding?! BAS', Laser's, etc are 50 times better in quality, and usefulness than what BIS supplied in OFP, and already ArmA Addons WITH OUT THE TOOLS are becoming better than Bohemia's. If you can't see that, then im sorry too.

Yes I have too... I wish they were animated like in one of the first trailers for ArmA.
-
you know thats funny, in my house, my sisters always played a map I made called Civi-Life on OFP, like playing house, it was really amusing that they were playing a Mature game but in a house play fashion. They'd drive to the store and then act em out in real life. One time they even (god forbid) got me to play as the pilot and fly them out places on FS9. Here all along I thought I was the only one!
-
Then how do you know you played it if you can't remember? I think the whole engine needs to be redone. I mean, yes there will always be limitations, but the fact that they are still going with the same engine just building upon it... is you know... Anyways what BIS, imho, should work on is Engine Dynamics. Heres an Idea: Split the Engine into a modules to make Addon making easier and not everything is set in stone as it seems today. (AKA without going in and having to redo all the code just to add a simple gameplay action shooting from vehicles...) The Weapon Module: Where you can easily change the variables of a weapon with ease: (below example is simplified, we would obviously need a wider range of adjustments to be able fully mod a weapon into the game) In the yellow boxes you could change the value, etc. You could do that with the, physics module, Vehicle module, AI module, Gear module, Weapon Mods module, the list could go on! BIS, again imho, should have the goal for their games to be community made, developer helped, and as partners we can make this game the best that ever walked the planet! Maybe I should apply at the PR job at BIS

That was the most bland spam known to this forum, I wish i was a mod... Anyways, ArmA has good physics i guess for a game as big as it is. It's not spam, it's refering to his post and the overdone effects in BF2. The BF2 ragdoll is just like that vid. The body transforms into a flailing thing and flies 15m after it gets shot. That's a case of overdone ragdoll. You should of Pm'ed me, but ill defend my post, and hopefully you'll learn something too... I deemed that it had no real worth at all to this thread, what would of been worthy is if he said something like this: "Yeah take a look here this will give you an idea of how physics in BF2 look like (link to a BF2 ragdoll presentation), kinda reminds me of this Flailing Tube Man" Anyways, Here are some Ragdoll examples hat look like it could, maybe, work in a game like ArmA.

haha, ArmA 2, thats a first, I wish we did have a better physics engine, no flying tanks... I hate how somtimes you hear a high pitched rev of an BMP engine, then notice this flying tank falling back to earth, it really ruins everything...
-
I get this too, at first i thought my Vid card was over heating, but I realized it was at a normal temprature. Hmm, it can get annoying, at least it doesnt happen in MP...

Whats the specs did you use to run that Dslyecxi?

Lol just saw this on whats officially going to be in ArmA... -Interactive Wildlife will be on the islands as well, making the world look even more realistic. Wildlife will react on gunfire etc. LINK

You know the best engine would be the cross between CryEngine 2 and VR... If I was BIS (good thing or bad thing?) I would invest in the new engine and mix it with theirs... probably easier said then done, but still... Hence why im looking forward to see how modable cysis really is.
