Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced
sputnik monroe replied to imported_bör's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
I stick by what I said Any addon that's file size was larger than the total file size of all missions made for it combined was a failure. Missions kept Flashpoint going not addons. Most addons kept the screenshot thread going. Alright I Forgot about the animations and the two unit replacement mods. So I suppose 98% of mods failed not 99. Don't delude your selves into believing that an APC that never had any missions released for it or a helicopter with out any missions kept Flashpoint alive. -

In the end I hate to say it but mods are over rated. 99% of all OFP mods were failures and a waste of time. To be honest FDF and WGL were really the only two successes I can think of. Some mod team's tank, island, or soldier pack that has no missions is a waste of every ones time and effort and never helped this game continue on. In short 1. any addon that's file size was larger than the total file size of all missions made for it combined was a failure and 2. Addons in my opinion really didn't help the life span of this game (the screenshot thread doesn't count). Mods can be cool but they are over rated, I'm much more interested in a solid base game than I am in a pile of crap that needs improved with addons. -
Damnit I really wanted to play today but right at noon (starting time for me) some one got on the computer and refused to get off. Â It drives me crazy missing wednesday's games all the time Â

It sounds quite interesting from everything I've been hearing. If I heard right it follows the experiences of people from three different towns.  As for those making the gripe about it not having other nations troops talk in it, well some one in your country needs to make a documentary. I admit I'm actually quite keen to hear from veterans from all sides, however this documentary is a way of preserving the voices and stories from those  in my nation of my grandparents generation who served in the war. These vererans are dying off now and so it's good for our historical record to try and record their memories now. People in England, Canada, Germany etc etc need to step up to the plate and do the same for their veterans instead of expecting US film makers to do it for them. Ken Burns isn't going to make multiple WW2 documentaries of this scope in his life time, I can guarantee, so of course he's likely going to focus on his nations veterans for his one WW2 documentary.

This quote from the article has nothing to do with the Blackwater incident but I must point it out... Â Let me get this straight, they walked around Iraq randomly asking "Iraqi's" if some one in their house had died from violence rather than natural causes and then they believed their answers? I guarantee you can ask any Iraqi and of course they are going to lie about it and say yes. I'm willing to bet way over half of them were lying to begin with. Any that really did have some one die would likely be a liar any way as every one attributes any kind of death to the United States, "Grandpa had a stroke and died, it's those fucking cowboys I tell you!" Â Don't get me wrong many have died in Iraq as the result of the war, but that happens in all war. However I'm going to take any Iraqis story of death and sorrow do to the Americans with a bag of salt. They'll say anything. Â As for the Blackwater incident I'll wait until I hear more details before I pass judgement. In the end I give private military contractors more benifit of the doubt than I'll ever give to Jihadist, murderers and gangsters. In the end you have to ask the question, would the eight civilians have died if Blackwater was not attacked? It sounds to me like Blackwater was escorting something and was attacked, a fire fight broke out and some civilians died. That's war sadly but in the end the enemy initiated the fire fight, it's not like Blackwater went in and executed eight civilians. (if you want to find a group that intentionally goes in and kills civilians go talk to your Jihad heroes) Â We'll see though as more evidence comes out what really happened. It sounds like it may have been a mortar attack which is also a very strong chance that the eight civilians were killed by the mortars. Many times the Jihadist and their western sympathizers attribute casualties caused by the Jihadist to the coalition forces. Â What's wrong with cowboys? Have you ever eaten beef and did you like it? The few people I ever met that you might class as "cowboys" were all pretty cool hard working people. In the end what do cowboys have to do with Blackwater. Sorry but the cowboy phrase is lame, lose it.

The rest of the pictures from this session are at the end of the previous page. Just before the attack but after the massive Russian artillery barage. One of the Russian soldiers. This one hid behind a destroyed BMP for the longest time. Later he was felled by a PK. A later mission

The mission was dark so the screenshots came out dark. So I had to resort to various tricks to brighten the images to show detail. I made the following two greyscalse as they were to bleached out in color after being brightened. Colour looks like a nuke is going off over the horizon. But look at all those bodies. Funeral rain and crows eyeing up the fresh meat. This one didn't look to bad after brightness and contrast but it still looks like day now, though the shot was at dusk.

Here is page 3 http://www.operationflashpoint2.info/images....2_3.jpg Haven't finished reading this page yet but they mention the possibility of bleeding to death and medivacs. I'm intrigued. I don't think it'll run on any computer I'll own in the next five years though :-/ *Edit* Finished reading the whole thing. I'm excited, I may not be able to play it for a few years but it's looking quite good and I think it has a chance of making a big impact. Hmm ok problem is I'm a pessimist and a cynic, so really I need to set my hopes lower or else I know I'll be let down. Still it sounds like it could be great. I'm definitely interested in this, which is something I cannot say for ARMA2 -
I was actually contemplating downloading the demo. I've always hated Quake but for some reason thought, hell I'll give it a chance. Then I watched this video... I'm sorry but it looks retarded. How come you run as fast as a speeding car? Also at about the 2:00 mark in the video the guy begins to hop non stop like a kangaroo on the moon. Also whats up with respawning? Every time the guy in the video gets killed he respawns falling from orbit into some little base, it looks stupid as hell. Are games ever going to get more advanced or are they just going to keep remaking the same boring shit over and over again with new graphics? Also why is it that in all FPS games you have a weapon stapled to the screen and the animation for running in every direction is the same as the forward animation? I give mad props to OFP for the fact that you don't have a gun stapled to the screen, instead you actually are looking out from the player model, it's a much more virtual feeling. That and even though the original animations in ofp were ugly at least they were different given the 9 directions you can move. Oh yeah and on foot you don't out sprint a cheeta in ofp like in most games. I haven't seen a single game yet that gives me a reason to upgrade my PC. I can play all this crap on a 486 66MHZ. *Rant Over*

Here is the cockpit recording. Pilot: "Think I can fly between those?" Gunner: "Nope." Pilot: "Oh ye of little faith, look how big that is."

Pentagon ‘three-day blitz’ plan for Iran
sputnik monroe replied to jerryhopper's topic in OFFTOPIC
What's the other choice? Let them have a nuke? The conflict is inevitable. I'd rather destroy their army, navy and ability to enrich uranium and then have them blow them selves up amongst us then have them in possesion of a nuke. Besides they are at war with us already. -

sputnik monroe replied to jerryhopper's topic in OFFTOPIC
I'm just hoping for something like Operation Praying Mantis. Simply put we just go in destroy their military and navy and then leave them to wallow and whine about it. Pacification not occupation. I hope the west has learned never to bother with reconstruction or any kind of rebuilding. It's a waste of time, money and life. -

Well sure they aren't 100% identical of course but their rabid anti semetism is worth a comparison. If Hezbollah had their way all the jews in Israel would be up in smoke so to speak.  Who cares, Mussolini made the trains run on time the National Socialist built schools and hospitals in Germany and even began the autobahn. Every one even the most tyranical builds infrastructure in their nation. If my neighbor spoke every day about how we was going to drive me into the sea and kill me and all my friends and family I really don't think I'd stop and think "Well I can't hate the guy, I mean after all look at the nice stuff he built for himself and his friends. he makes them happy"  After Hezbollah and Hamas attacked Israel from Lebanon. If my neighbor throws a rock at me I'll walk into his lawn and punch him in the face, that doesn't make me the invader. He started the attack, it's called cause and effect.  That's a fair way of going about things and there is nothing wrong about that. I however have done the same and in the end found that I simply cannot respect Hezbollah. Their actions and beliefs are not compatiable with my beliefs. If I believed in their methods and end game goals I don't think I could look my self in the mirror in the morning.

Alright Neville Chamberlain. That's your right to think that way.  That is unacceptable though.  You are an enabler and part of the problem. You basically just said your ideologically alright with any semetism and murder of civilians.  You make me sick.  Two of the four games you mentioned were made in France and the Czech republic. SWAT4 I haven't played and am not sure of it's developer, however I was under the idea that it's cops so it would be domestic criminals. I haven't played it though so perhaps it might have terrorist in it as well.  This is where I disagree vastly with you. See I don't believe they have the right to exist. Not every institution or group has a right to exist. Do neo nazi groups have the same right? In my opinion neo nazi groups don't have a right to defend them selves and make games, to me they are an enemy to be abolished. They are hate mongers and murderers they fuck the world up by their very existance. I put Hezbollah in that same category.  The problem I see is that Hezbollah is so chic and anti establishment so most Europeans think they are cool and support them while most Americans are too stupid and ignorant to be even aware of their existance. In the end they just kill jews so who gives a shit right?

I didn't flame any one lately, perhaps I told a certain individual something he needed to hear. It may of sounded harsh but you have to keep in mind the individual I was speaking to and what he said which lead me to speak to him in the manner I did. Given that context he was simply a victim of cause and effect, you reap what you sew. I think it could safely be argued that it was he doing the flaming, I simply fell into his trap.  Then again it is your board, your house, your rules and all are at your mercy or favour so fair enough. I'll stop responding to trolls in the offtopic area of these boards. (I know I've said that before on average of once a year, it's hard sometimes though when some one really hits a nerve by "flaming" your entire nation and an entire gereration.)

I hate that warning level bar below my avatar it looks like a filtered cigarette and I'm not a smoker and it just bugs me. Could I maybe have another warning level so it doesn't look like a cig any more?  Thanks *Edit* Actually though I just took a look at other people who have two warning levels and it still looks a bit like  cig so could I maybe have two warning levels added? Just enough to reach arcoss half the bar perhaps so it doesn't look like a damn cigarette any more?

They have every right in the world to make their own game. But I just don't get how all of you can honestly compare it to America's Army. I mean if Russia made a game called Russia's Army or India did or some other respectable nation did and you compared it to America's Army that would be one thing. However Hesbollah is not a respectable group they are terrorist simple as that. Do you guys support neo nazi groups as well? Might as well hypocrites. Â Quit jumping on the band wagon. Hezbollah is not "cool". To dislike America is one thing and/or to hate Israel but to put Hezbollah on the same level is just disturbed. Â In a lot of ways you guys remind me of the Irish American ass holes who supporeted the IRA over the years. I hope some of you aren't sending money to these ass holes. Then again I supose that's "your right" and I wouldn't be surprised given the logic of some of you people. Â No one said they don't have the right. Just the same as the axis powers had the right to make propaganda during WWII.

Russian ‘spy’ planes put RAF on Cold War alert
sputnik monroe replied to DBO_'s topic in OFFTOPIC
On the behalf of all the merchant marines who died in the cold north Atlantic delivering this "junk" as you put it, I say Your welcome.  On the behalf of all the US war dead during world war 2 and my great grand uncle Ted I say unto you, *ahem* Fuck You Ass Hole.  Russia did her part the US did her part. Spokesperson did jack shit. I wasn't alive either so no I didn't do anything as I could not take part but I'll be damned if I'm going to sit by idle why a little shit like you runs down the blood sweat and tears of thousands of people who fought lost and suffered in that war.  It’s true a lot of people in the west are ignorant to how big a sacrifice Russia made during the war and the horror that was the eastern front. However to come out and tell them “your grand parents generation didn’t do shit in the war†is only inviting your self to attack.  So really, fuck you, you little stuck up narcissistic pretentious prick.  If the moderators decide to ban me or what not citing this as a personal attack then fine I'll take the punishment, it's their board their house their rules. However keep in mind this little punk just made a personal attack on the character of thousands including many of my family who fought and died in that war.  Good night. -
I guess when you put it that way so does the Aryan Nation and other groups as well. Though I have a feeling you would cry a river if they did which is funny as their beliefs and Hezbollahs overlap in may ways. No, not the world as a whole, parts of it are though. The problem is Hezbollah is so chic and cool. I can't stand pop culture. You guys will jump on any cause if it's the latest rebelious cool thing to do.

I really like the idea of fighting along side the Russians for once rather than agaisnt them. I kind of hope for the editor though that you can define sides based on your mission, this way you could create classic russia vs us cold war missions if you'd like any way. THis would also be cool as we'll have three large armies to create battles with. -
In the end this thread only strengthens my opinion that civilians should not even be allowed this kind of information. You guys cannot handle it. Friendly fire is a part of war, soldiers know this civilians and politicians do not. All I see in this thread for the most part is just a bunch of whiney civilians who know nothing about war or it realities. There are a few post that are exceptions but for the most part it's just ignorant civilians or in some cases just people who hate the USAF by virtue of the US in the acronym. Shit happens in war, friendly forces get killed by mistake and civilians who hang around battles or targets also die. It's just the way it is, it sucks but you cannot change the nature of the beast. The major problem I see in modern warfare is that civilians and politicians have a say in how it is carried out. This leads to one of two major drawbacks, 1. the military cannot wage war correctly and is thus hamstrung and cannot win or 2. The war can be won but it's length and over all death toll are increased. When ever there are casualties, collateral damage, friendly fire, atrocities or other inevitabilities of war, the civilians and politicians cry and cripple their own forces with new rules of engagement and other insanities. I believe that once forces are commited to war the politicians and civilians meddling should be removed. Leave war to the warriors and generals.

I've only got to play paint ball once and it was very very fun. That said, I get the idea that airsoft is to paintball what Flashpoint is to Counter Strike.
