    Fixed crosshair?

With your rifle perpendicular (or close to it) to your body you should be able to use that to keep your bearings on which way your body is pointing.

    Realism, Teamwork and Enjoyment.

I'm not sure how you set it up, but it would be best to allow insurgents to leave the village, but not leave it totally undefended and if a case comes about where there is no insurgent presense in the village, but there is USMC then USMC get the win. It's not unrealistic for the insurgents to be able to send guys outside the village to do recon and harrasement tactics.

    Fixed crosshair?

I believe what Shadow is trying to say is that with TrackIR you don't need the floating box anymore because you now have a floating view. As stated the difference between the two cross-hair types is what the view is attached to (the gun or the middle of the screen). With TrackIR the view is attached to the input from TrackIR. In fixed mode with TrackIR you will get smoother body turning without the "gun lag" as it's been called. I'm not certain which way will work best yet. Actually I still haven't heard for certain that we'll get TrackIR support for infantry. For me it'll be one of those things where you try it both ways and see which one feels the best.

    Track ir

You won't regret getting it for racing sims. It works absolutely great with them, especially the ones that support 6DOF.

    Track ir

Think of TrackIR like your mouse. You have to find the right sensitivity with your mouse to meet your personal preference in the game. TrackIR is the same way. You work up a profile for each game that works best for what you need. After you get over the inital hump of using the hardware it's pretty easy to adjust in new games. Everyone went through the same thing the first time they played a FPS with mouse look.

While possible this would be a pretty elaborate setup. First you'd need sensors 360 degrees around you. Second you'd need a setup that would allow you to rotate with your controllers. If you think Track-IR is expensive wait until you see the price tag on something like this.

If they don't find a publisher we may be looking at no disc at all and downloading through electronic distribution.

    Coop Campaign

With their character switching feature, I think it would be very little work to re-create the ArmA campaign in co-op with just those selectable positions. With a little more work even more positions could be opened (depending on how the mission is set up). As for stuff that doesn't ship with the game, the mission editor is so powerful that the imagination of the creator is usually the limit when creating new content. You could create an extremely grand co-op campaign of your own and just have to worry about the machine specs of the server. *All of the above are assumptions based off the way OFP works*

    ArmA Compass

For those of us who play co-op or slower paced adveserial play, having those "pointless" numbers is helpful to relay bearings to your human teammates. Lets say you see a sniper off in the distance. You don't have a scoped rifle, but your buddy near you does. If you tell him the sniper is in a bush 600m away at 305 degrees, he's going to find him a hell of a lot faster than if you tell him to look NW.

    Adjustable iron sights?

With Depth of Field being one of the tricks up DirectX's sleeve, this is possible. In the Crysis tech demo they show it being done very well, although not specifically with iron sites.

    Adjustable iron sights?

I think he is refering to the minute differences of the actual x,y,z coordinates the bullets will traverse through en route to the target which will be different, but not very much. OFP actually computes the real path of the bullet and would need to show this, but as I stated in my post above the impact on the game engine will not be any different because it's going to be calculating the same equation regarless. It's just the values input into the equation that will be different.
  13. strango

    Adjustable iron sights?

True, the exact path of the bullet will be different, but the impact on the game engine will not be that different than normal. The same equations are being calculated regardless of what range setting is being used. The difference is the values of the variables entered into the equation will be changed before getting the solution. If what you said was true then it would be a major resource hog to use the M21 rifle in OFP which has variable zero based on scope zoom (as has been mentioned earlier in this thread).

    widescreen resolutions

I think you are correct. I can't say for certain weather this is applicable to ArmA, but most games released recently only show resolutions that system supports. Sometimes this is the same resolution list you have in windows. Usually this has more to do with your monitor than anything else. OFP is this way. After I got my widescreen monitor I was able to choose 1680x1050 from OFP settings where I did not have that option with my old monitor. *EDIT for grammer

    Adjustable iron sights?

Although it was for the H&K 69 and not the M203, but Infiltration (a mod for UT) modeled this system very well. You used your change rate of fire key to cycle your aiming position on the ladder to the next range.

    graphics in game

Looking at it from a technical perspective I can see grass working one of two ways (I'm sure there's more, but these two are the ones that popped into my head). 1) Grass will be like bushes, objects placed on the island by the island creator. In OFP objects placed on the island by the creator could not be removed. I can't see a graphics option being able to turn these off if this is the case. LODs could be used to help the lower end systems. 2) Grass is tied to the ground texture. If this is the case then the grass is created after the fact and could be capable of being turned off by graphic settings. Personally I'm guessing that it will be the first option.

    Will Vehicles Have Gears?

OFP had gears, but it was an automatic transmission. If you listen to the engine sound you can hear it shifting. I'd second wanting to have realistic physics for ground vehicles, but I'm not so sure the majority of OFP gamers would concur.

    iFEEL support & 3D ironsights

I don't know about veteran, but I've made some posts over there. I'm anxiously awaiting (some official word) on what kind of interaction we're going to get with Armed Assault.

    iFEEL support & 3D ironsights

They did give you a health meter though. Â It's a heart tattoo on your chest (you have to look down at your chest to see it). Â Unfortunately there isn't reloading in the game, once you use up a magazine or cylinder thats all you get out of it. Â When you shoot she counts down verbally how many shots you have left. I don't know I'd go so far as to say Armed Assault should do this. Â Anyone with weapons training can shoulder a weapon and align the sites quickly. Â You'll also notice in trespasser that they hold all weapons with one hand, even ones with buttstocks. Â They had to do this for their control scheme of controlling one arm. Â They also hold all the weapons out at arms length which made some of the rifles, especially ones with hooded rear sites, very difficult to use. Â It might be neat to see something where after you bring up the iron sites you have to slightly adjust the site picture to better align them by holding down a button and moving the mouse. Â Then when you release the button you return to moving the weapon with the mouse. Â It's a bit too late to put that into Armed Assault though, perhaps in Game 2. BTW I never said Die by the Sword was easy, I just said the controls weren't complex. I will agree it has one of the highest learning curves in the history of gaming.

    iFEEL support & 3D ironsights

Well when that pistol has sites on it and you have to align those sites with the target I think you can call that iron site aiming, lol. I also played and loved Die by the Sword. Â I wouldn't say the system was overly complex, it just took a lot of getting use to. Â In fact the system was actually pretty simple. Â You move the mouse and your weapon arm would move accordingly. Â If you pressed and held the block button then your character would change his grip on the sword and hold it in a defensive manner allowing you to still move it around and deflect incoming blows. When you got over the learning curve it was great fun. After you got precise with it you could behead people.

    iFEEL support & 3D ironsights

The first game I saw them in was Trespasser (1998 I think). It also remains the most hardcore iron site aiming system I've seen in a game. Your gun sites were not aligned for you. You had to use a combination of wrist and shoulder movements to line up the rear site with the front site and then aim the weapon at the target.

will you play co op or ctf etc

I'll definitely be looking forward to co-op. Assuming we get our staff built back up, FCM will be up and running again to give teams the ability to compete for the highest score in co-op missions. BTW if you're a talented co-op mission developer and are interested in joining the staff be sure to visit our website found in my sig for more info. That goes for teams who are interested in particpating as well. We're currently finished with OFP, but our previous match missions are available for download in the forums. I'm also looking forward to realism based adveserial missions. I've been working on some new game-types, but lost interest in finishing them when the player base started to dry up. I'll most likely finish them up when Armed Assault gets released.

    Track ir

Hmmm, I didn't get a bracket with mine, unless you mean the 3 foot base. How does it work? Maybe I can try to replicate it. EDIT: N/M, I downloaded the latest manual from NP's site and see it listed in there.

    ArmAs game key/auth system proposal

Sounds good except for Store returns. Unless you give the stores some kind of automated system that is integrated with theirs, they won't take the time to reset the key.

    Track ir

I have a TIR3 and think the reading rate and resolution is silky smooth, so I can't see how TIR4 could noticeably improve on this anymore. The one feature it does have that intrigues me is the larger tracking area. If you are going to mount your tracking device more than 3 or more feet from where you sit, then this larger tracking area is going to come in handy. I have my TIR3 mounted about 3 feet away (I have a flats screen monitor, so resting it on top isn't an option). At this distance you have to make sure you are perfectly aligned with the device in order for you to get in the center of it's scan area. If you aren't in the center then it's possible some of your movements will move outside the scan area and won't be picked up. The easy fix for this is to just mark a spot on the ground for where your chair needs to be and make sure it's in that spot when using TIR.
