awesome shots of that tree with the water Killagee. Especially the 3rd one @ 10mm. What lens is that, the Sigma 10-20?
And g00b, I really liked those (crossprocessed?) portraits from a couple of pages back, that's good stuff man.
getting connected (bigger)

Thinking of getting a 17-50/2.8 or 28-75/2.8 (Tamron) or something similar. (The Canon equivalents cost about 3 times as much)I'm thinking about replacing the kit lens with the 17-50/2.8 lens made by Sigma. Just seen it for 399.- € in town today (didn't look for online prices yet). I have yet to find any (affordable) zoom lenses with a better f-value. Simply the fact that it offers the same aperture over the whole zoom length (and much better than the 3.5-5.6 of the the kit lens, too) makes it perfect for any indoor/low light photography.
Anyone tried this lens (or the respective Tamron equivalent)? Is there an equivalent Canon lens, and what would that cost?
From what I've heard the Sigma has a lot of Colour Abberation. The Tamron 17-50 is said to be very decent and about the same price as the Sigma. However Tokina will soon release their 16-50/2.8 so I'm kinda holding back till that's available and see how it performs and how much it'll cost. The Canon equivalents cost quite a bit more
EFs 17-55/2.8 IS: about 870e
EF 16-35/2.8L: about 1400e
(a second hand 17-35/2.8L is also an option, still expensive)
EF 24-70/2.8L: about 1100e
(a second hand 28-70/2.8L is also an option, but again, still expensive)
And to finish with a photo, my first time trying night photography

If your camera is noise free then go for 800 Since I use Nikon I cant really go over 400 without getting problems...nope, same here....
guess i should buy a 50 f1.4 lens for it...
or maybe "just" a 50 f1.8 lens as that is a little cheaper.....
you got any recomendations for a replacement lens similar to the kit 18-55 lens?
someone told me that the Sigma 17-70 lens is quite good... but it´s expensive.... (atleast i think it is)
I use Canon's 50/1.8 for concerts at the moment.
Settings I use:
Aperture Priority mode: f/2.8, ISO800, -1 exposure bias
Manual mode (if the lighting is really crap): f/2.8, ISO 800, 1/60s or 1/80s
At f/1.8 you get a very shallow DOF, so I doubt an f/1.4 lens would be very useful given the even narrower DOF. That's one of the reasons I use my 50/1.8 @ 2.8, just gives a bit wider DOF.
I'm looking into getting a fast zoom lens for concerts though, as 50mm is often too narrow and sometimes too short. Thinking of getting a 17-50/2.8 or 28-75/2.8 (Tamron) or something similar. (The Canon equivalents cost about 3 times as much)
And regarding your previous post, yes I was refering to the Sigma 70-300/4-5.6 DG APO Macro.
@ supah, the 70-300/4-5.6 IS USM only costs about 600 or so, not 1499 :P
[edit] I should talk less and post more photos

Sole and Deadmeat both have a Sigma 70something-300 on their camera's and they seem pretty chuffed with itI may have been chuffed with my 70-300 a while ago, but the SLOW autofocus and quite soft images at the long range are bugging me. Same story as your old 170-500 basicly
Not using that lens much anyway, only bought it for aircraft photography, which I don't do much, if at all

'homemade' F/9 disc? Did you put some chewing gum inside the F/8 disc?
Interesting picture though goob, polaroids are always fun.
I was hoping I could post some reasonable photos of the Razorlight gig I went to last Wednesday, but I was 'stolen' from good pictures as there was a monitor right in front of me (on an allready high stage). That wasn't the only factor though, I was playing around too much with settings instead of just using the settings I normally use for gigs.
Also somewhat photography related: I'm currently hogging the mailbox, the flash unit I ordered should be arriving today

Lovely shots AimPoint, I never seem to get colours right (or wrong, depending how you look at it ) when I'm tinkering around with cross-processing effects.
Pic from last Friday
My cam seems to have developed a slight hotpixel problem though. I can probably get it fixed under warranty, but it'll mean I'll be without a cam for weeks

Hah, I'm loving that Sluganda, very nice
Another pic (BW conversion) from the same gig as my previous pics

Is everything still going good for you guys? Regular races? Still good racer numbers?I should have my DFP PRO fixed next week sometime. I really want some good races
Over at E-Racing we drive most nights, either practicing for the race on friday on our own server or just doing some small races on Redline Racing.
(Redline Racing is a recommended server if you are looking for good racing)
Flashpoint Racing's server seems to be up, but the FpR guys never seem to be on.. and their forum is a bit dead, unfortunatly.

I recorded the first 7 laps of yesterday's tune-up race to give u an idea of the fun we had.http://noccy.piraatti.info/GTR's@Fern.wmv (48Mb ,8minutes)
Haha excellent vid!. I think I held on pretty good for the first few laps, but my car became very unstable after a few laps (either the tires or suspension got borked). About 8 laps into the race I couldn't even put down half decent times anymore because the rear would just break out at the slightest turn.
Was a great race though. Unfortunatly I couldn't make it to the real race this night, as I had to babysit my nephews (I probably wouldn't have lasted long anyway, heh)

damn Sole and his bloody fast speeds.I'm not fast, I'm just less slow than you
Noccy is the fast one

Finally bought an S2 licence myself last night
Some good races tonight, though I seem to becoming an expert in roofing the hot-hatch in the chicanes

Lovely macro shots there Killagee!
I recently found my dad's old Minolta 9000 (w/ exernal flash and 2 lenses) again which I now consider my 'new' analogue SLR.
I'll be playing around with this camera in the future
I mounted the old Minolta flash on my 350D for this pic (looked quite funny, but it sorta worked, I want to get a 580EX sometime)
[edit] This is my first go at product photography, so it's a bit dodgy.

I didnt know you could get them for that price, I haven't seen any in the USM range going for less than 300. But watch out for the EF-S range. That -S bit is bad news. It's the cheaper version of the EF series, and the connecting ring is made of plastic, as opposed to metal, so it's best suited for people who don't really change lenses very often.EF-S lenses are the lenses specificly made for APS-C format Canon dSLR's (with a 1.6 cropfactor, like the 350D and 30D) and has nothing to do with the (build) quality. The S stands for Short back focus. The only drawback of EF-S is that they are not compatible with full frame cameras (like the 5D and those top of the line 1D's)
[edit] intresting shot goob, is that your face multi exposed on that wall?

A Sigma 70-300 DG macro APO will definitely not cost less than 300€A Sigma 70-300 DG macro APO will definitely not cost more than €250
I got mine for €215. €230 is the normal price for the 70-300 APO DG
Canon EF-S 18-55 USM( !! ) definitely no less than 400€Sure you don't mean €40? the EF-S 18-55 USM was the kitlens for the 300D. The MKII of the EF-S 18-55 USM goes for about €90 brand new. Funnily detail: the silver 350D gets supplied with the 18-55 USM II, while the black 350D gets supplied with the 18-55 non-USM II.
Anyways, something to contribute to the thread:

I like the first oneFirst glance, scrolling up though the pictures it didn't seem that impressive, then I scrolled up a bit to show the top/other plane
What sort of lens is that with? Just a standard-ish one, or proper telephoto one?
- Ben
Cheers. As I said, wasn't meant to be fancy, as I was just a practice day. I wanted to get some more experience for when it really counts (airshows etc). I'm still fairly new to dSLR photography, I only recently switched to a proper camera.
The lens I used was a Sigma APO 70-300 Macro DG. Excellent value for the money. I picked up mine for € 215,-. (comes with hood + bag). The non-APO lens is about € 145,- as far as I remember.
Same lens I used for the wristwatch pic by the way. The Macro switch allows you to focus on subjects from ~95cm (200-300mm range), rather than the ~1.5m on normal mode.

Intresting shot there MI_Fred and cheers supah

A photo I took last monday when I was horribly bored. Though not very original (everyone and their grandmother has a picture of their watch), I'm still somewhat pleased with the result.
[edit] had to lower the quality a bit, was exceeding 100kb
