1. Good afternoon, downloading ARMA 3 as we speak but after skimming through the forum I am now starting to worry about my rig being able to play this at decent (not perfect) settings. So, can anyone comment and probably suggest sensible improvements to my configuration? Currently, gaming is not important enough to me to spend a lot of money so... AMD Phenom II X4 955 (stable overclock at 3.8 MHz) 2 x Sapphire Vapor-X HD5870 (crossfired if useful) 6 Gigs of RAM System and games on SSD (for now) Win 7 32bit, will switch to 64bit this weekend Wanna play in 1600 x 1200 (yes I like my old TFT) Thanks for any input Shrike

    Real life photography/photo editing

Fantastic pictures everyone! Here's my humble contribution: Some pictures of the greatest bird on earth, the Andean Condor. Shot in Colca Canyon in south Peru, the 2nd deepest canyon in the world if I'm not mistaken. I know they're a bit blurry but it aint easy to get a sharp pic of a 60 km/h flyby at 7 in the morning Shot with EOS350D w/ Tamron 18-200 edit: I don't really like what Photobucket has done to my pics...any hints for better results? I'm a total newb when it comes to post-production

    Real life photography/photo editing

Hi, Great pics everyone! I'm not as talented as some here but I thought I'd share some pictures of the South America trip I'm currently enjoying with my wife. the following links are slideshows, the pics unfortunately are strongly reduced in size and quality from their 8 Mpixel originals. They are not postprocessed either (cybercafes, ya know...). All pics taken with Canon Eos350 with Tamron 18-200 and UV Filter..unfortunately I left some filters at home. I especially miss that gradient greyscale thingy whatever it's called in English...the contrasts in the tropical sun are brutal so the sky is sometimes overexposed... They cover the last 3.5 months, starting in Buenos Aires/Argentina. Total around 400 pictures, my favourites being those from Galapagos. Argentina, Buenos Aires to Iguazu Falls From Chile to Bolivia Cusco - Machu Picchu Potosi - La Paz - Lake Titicaca Peru - South to North Galapagos Islands - the last paradise Hasta luego from Quito/Ecuador. cu for Armed Assault Shrike

World Car of the Year 2005

I used to think the same, trust me. However, if you look at it from an objective point of view there are very little German (or European) cars that keep their eternal aesthetic value for a long time. Exceptions are Porsche, the epitome of a timeless design, some older Mercedes models and a few selected classics. Any Audi from the 90ies that still looks remotely interesting? Any BMW except the old 635 CSI or the really old 2002 etc.? Any Volkswagen? In the end there isn't that much of a difference between German and Japanese cars when it comes to this, especially when talking about bread-and-butter cars. The good thing about German car manufacturers are the rare model changes so the cars get and keep a certain character, unlike Japanese cars that become "faceless" very soon. I agree regarding the Mazda Mx-5. But you can say the same about Audi-TT, which was very interesting when it came out...for about 2 weeks. Same goes for SLK or even more for BMW Z3. However I'd like to think of the S2000 as a very special breed that doesn't fall under the same rules, especially as it has remained virtually unchanged since 6 years and is no mass production car. I can't dig out all the special characteristics of this car now. If you're interested you should find plenty of evidence on the internet why it is so special.

World Car of the Year 2005

Except Honda with the S2000. I had been looking for some hedonistic nice car for a while now to have some fun until my wife and I have kids and a minivan etc. At first I was very sceptic...as a German you don't exactly think very well about Japanese cars...which is totally unrational BS as they have great engineers, superior quality and in this case make one of the best sportscars in the world. After long research there was no other choice left than this: Affordable, minimalistic philosophy, handmade, very rare, no platform sharing, the engine with the highest displacement/power ratio for a non-supercharged engine in the world and exceptional driving characteristics. What a shame we're going through a Siberian winter here in Bavaria Ah well, another month or so and I should be screaming through the mountains Â

World Car of the Year 2005

I am not a Porsche fanboi (I just bought this) but whoever says a modern Porsche is a bitch to drive has obviously never driven one. It's as easy as driving can possibly be, I've never driven a more docile car in my life. If I had to choose the most perfect car it would have to be a 997 Carrera S. I can't afford one and if I could, I probably still wouldn't buy it....here in Munich you see thousands of them and 95% are driven by pointy-haired yuppies on a leasing, gold necklace wearing pimps or your average aging playboy. Sad. Plus Porsche, like most other car companies, is going the way of more luxury, more lectronics, more useless gadgets and more electronically influenced driving...too much stuff that can go kaputt and too boring to drive.

    Recommend some servers pls

Kris, you've been sitting at wait for server screen because there's no map rotation defined. As long as you don't vote yourself admin (#vote yourname) or haven't loaded the map selection screen (#missions) you'll only see the wait for server screen as long as there is nobody else on the server.

    Best Space simulation?

A friend of mine used to play an older MS game, Allegiance Although it may be slightly outdated it is said to be absolutely great in MP, from dogfights to large scale strategic operations, building of units etc. In fact I think it's MP only, SP is only training stuff. I've only watched him playing it so I don't really have an educated opinion on it. I can tell it looked damn great though. The space flight is supposed to be more or less realistic (inertia etc.) and not a "vacuum-aereodynamic" model like X-Wing et al. here is a review Edit: And a few movie trailers

What do you play Ofp with?

AMD 64 3500+ S939 130 nm 2 x 512 MB DDR400 RAM in dual channel Geforce 6800 GT 256 MB (which has no noticeable advantage to the 9800 XT I used before) OFP runs great on this, the AMD 64 CPU gave me a HUGE boost compared to the AMD Athlon XP 2400+ I had before.

    Half-life 2 is out (and CS:Source)

Anyone else getting motion sickness from playing HL2? I've played FPS since Wolfenstein 3D and never experienced anything like it...terminal nausea after only a few mins of gaming. Just thinking about yesterday night's 5 mins of HL2 makes me feel sick again... Â Perhaps I should lower mouse sensitivity, I don't know. Any tips? I'm using a 20" TFT so I am pretty much bound to refresh rate and resolution. gah...

    Half-life 2 is out (and CS:Source)

It's a bloody joke! Bought the game yesterday (Standard Retail Version) and now I can't friggin' play because the Steam servers are choked and I can't unlock the game! If I wasn't so hot for some nice singleplayer action I'd return the game tomorrow and never ever buy a Valve product again. *Insert expletive of your choice here*

We run 2 permanent servers and 1 additional testserver on the same box with the same IP but different port numbers. Works flawless since 2+ years.

    Us presidential election 2004

Yes, I know. Still I am voicing my opinion - which is in no way exclusively directed towards Shin Raiden I might add. Plus I've read worse on this forum. But I'll bear the consequences, no problem.

    Us presidential election 2004

Oh you hypocrite, stupid, mindless, blind sheep....just like us Germans in 1933. Edit: It's probably not even worth it and I respect Shin Raiden as a smarter and more eloquent specimen than most supporting his stance. However I wont step down as I'm so damn angry.

    Us presidential election 2004

What a farce indeed. How could anybody with a sane mind reelect Bush and his cronies after all that happened... I feel sorry for all the Americans hoping for a change, especially for those who were able to challenge their opinion and admit to themselves they might have been wrong in the past. And I pity those who chose to follow a liar, a criminal,a demagogue, a fundamentalist who claims to speak on behalf of god while the only real "gods" he and his high priests believe in are power and wealth, promoting medieval ideals of revenge and retribution. My apologies to all clear thinking Americans here, but it seems your country is uneducated, historically. I guess you need an all out war on your own soil first to make you understand that war is...uhm...different if you're on the receiving end of it. Maybe that'll stop you from eagerly dishing out to "towelheads" or "gooks" in the future under the pretense of liberation and Democracy For Everyone Aynhow I hope for the best and wish everybody well, maybe even TBA is able to learn from their mistakes and to actually do something helpful in their 2nd term.

    1.96a Server

I have probably missed the release but I still can't find a 1.96a Linux OFP server. A heads up would be much appreciated, thanks.

    How to....play multiplayer?

sure. Just click on "Multiplayer" in your main menu, select "Internet" and wait for the ingame browser to fill with available servers. You can sort the servers by Name, ping, No. of players etc. and join your server of choice by clicking on "join". That's about it. Of course you'll have to make sure it doesnt run any addons or load the required addons before you join. It's not easy to determine which addons a server is running, the only hint is the modline under the current mapname (usually starts with RES and then the modfolders loaded by the server in question, separated by ; ) Another possibility is to download and install OFP Watch which is supported by several servers and let's you determine and download the required addons. All of the above requires the OFP Resistance addon, most servers are running version 1.96 and require the appropriate patch on your machine....but I'm sure you know that. Enjoy Shrike
