Retaliation campaign now available in English
shrike replied to theavonlady's topic in USER MISSIONS
I finally found the bugger...only Selivanov seems to be alive though as he's the only non-hostile around. I don't get the objective checked as well but the mission ends successful when you land back at the base. Can't wait for part 2 Â -
Retaliation campaign now available in English

uhmm...I'm probably blinded by the splendor of your campaign...but I can't manage to find our 4 specops in "Operation Lift" (S&R with Hind) Possible spoilers!! I nail the Truck, the vulcan and the jeep, the guy tells me he is about to deploy red smoke to mark the LZ but I can't find him nor the red smoke. After cruising around the spot for a while mission fails because the Specop has been killed. no gunfire around nothing... Â Any hint? -
Why not go for an interim PC upgrade and get more RAM? 384 MB is a bit low for OFP, I remember getting much better FPS when I switched from 512 to 1024 MB. You should be able to find 1 x 512 MB DDR RAM for a reasonable price nowadays, I bet the improvement will be noticeable. Â

To all addon makers involved in creating choppers: (I remember this issue being raised a while ago but obviously without results) Would it be possible (in future) to muffle the engine sounds a bit for the interior / 1st person? A good example are the choppers by Operation Frenchpoint (Gazelle/Puma), they have a very nice interior sound at a reasonable level. Others like the BIS originals or most BAS choppers, although being wonderful addons, are insanely LOUD in 1st person view. As we always play without 3rd and heavily rely on Teamspeak while playing this makes it impossible to understand a word in flight without everybody yelling like a madman. I know I could tone down my effects volume in OFP or raise the TS output level but back on the ground  I'd have to readjust the levels which is annoying while trying to survive!  IMHO a muffled sound would be more realistic as well as usually headsets are used in flight. I had the chance to be passenger in choppers a few times and the engine sound was pretty quiet through the headsets they gave us. What do you guys think? Thanks for considering Shrike

[showoff mode]  This is my keyboard  [/showoff mode]  still it doesn't help me in easily tuning teamspeak volume vs. OFP volume  -

shrike replied to shrike's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Sure, I could do that and I actually do cause I am forced to. But it's about balance, if I turn down the volume to fly a chopper at a reasonable sound level, I have to crank it back up for the ground battle as i LOVE it loud when it comes to explosions, rifle fire, tank battles etc. The difference is that these are not  continuous noises as opposed to chopper engine sounds. I mean, in some CSAR or transport missions I can be in the air for 30+ minutes. This is where excessively loud engine sounds start to get annoying. -

Ok I face it. Choppers are loud. Let's keep OFP "realistic", why not make them even louder. Same for machineguns, tank main guns, explosions etc. I want my windows to shatter and my walls to crumble when a satchel goes off. I want my eardrums to ring after 20 secs of suppressive fire with the M249. Realism all the way, hooah! Tsk. Guess I'll continue to alt-tab as soon as I board a chopper, switch to TS/settings/output volume, crank it up aaaalll the way to the right, do my flight, land, alt-tab, repeat as seen above. For the rest of my squad who probably can't be arsed to cope with this crap I will yell at the top of my lungs when I want them to eject or disembark. Bobcatt there really is no need to explain to me how loud a chopper is and WHY it is loud. I know choppers are loud for the grunt sitting in the back. That still doesn't mean I want a full scale battlesound environment in my flat when I play at night - and I actually like it loud. You say it yourself: This is the effect I'd like to see simulated. simple as that. Now back to RPG dodging and crappy movies please. Â -

shrike replied to shrike's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Alright for me it's only about comfort at playing, so to speak. I'd like to hear my squad talk to me when piloting a chopper or sitting in the back, I don't want to turn down my speaker volume when flying, I don't want the police knocking at my door when playing late at night. It's all a matter of "balance" in sound design. I suggest to try the OPFrP Gazelle and the BAS MH-60 and compare the 1st and 3rd person sound volume of both. It really isn't a major issue but, hey, I can always ask  -
I actually took this from Avon's FAQ , dunno if it's still mentioned there.

Well, of course this is a subjective thing but most players on Zeus feel the same, I am not only speaking for myself here. Haven't tried the Pavehawk in MP yet, it has probably changed compared to earlier addons. -
Haven't seen this mentioned yet: The only way I can ever install OFP (GOTY) on my PC is by lowering FSB to 100 MHz, install OFP, then raise it back to its orginal status. Works like a charm whereas before I got CRC errors all over the place. That's all I had to do, no probs in gaming whatsoever (except the occasional odd addon problem). Hope this helps :-)

Retaliation campaign now available in English
shrike replied to theavonlady's topic in USER MISSIONS
Thx for the replies concerning my CTDs. Yes I do have an AMD system but I very rarely have problems with it in OFP. Usually I run it with about 600 Megs of addons without problems. Heck, yesterday we played an addon-heavy CTI for 4 hours and platoons of tanks going up against each other and dozens of units around and it ran perfectly fine. Anyway I'll check my drivers and all as I REALLY want to continue playing this excellent campaign! Â -

Excellent stuff! But it's a damn shame I can't continue after "Clean up". After the cutscene between clean up and the next mission I CTD. Every time, with 1.96 clean or ECP, 1.91 clean or ECP. I tried everything and there's nothing I can do sad sad sad Any idea? It crashes right after the text "Montignac..." on black background. It wasn't the first CTD in this campaign but at least I could get past the others somehow... My RPT file: Other than that I like it a lot! Great Atmosphere and quite difficult, I like that! Keep up the good work Shrike -

Ausgezeichnet! Â Thanks for sharing, sounds very intriguing!

Sicilian: Do these guys just lose connection and get back to OFP MP screen or do they actually crash to desktop? I am asking because we have more and more evidence that single clients using ECP (any version as it seems) can cause other clients not using ECP to CTD under certain circumstances. Sometimes it hits the ECP user as well, sometimes not. Unfortunately I still have no idea what these circumstances might be, those errors are very hard to reproduce and track down. Anybody able to confirm this? Please ask other players whether they were using ECP or not after such disconnections happened so we might be able to narrow it down to certain "triggers".

here's a link for Tonal 1.2: BAS Island & OPFOR 1.2 sorry I'm in a hurry, no tips on other islands from me now
-
Hi LHO, did you try that on the server or on the client? To whoever has a clue concerning these settings: Could the server be tweaked the same way, in other words: Is it possible to squeeze out more network performance on the server side applying these settings (with different values maybe) ? Thx Shrike

Yes, it will be A LOT more powerful when dedicated. It's definately worth it don't even hesitate

8 (MP) for obvious reasons I do enjoy well made SP missions, too, mostly when I am sick at home and until people come online later in the evening.

Temporary forum HERE Please register with the forums before you post, thank you!

Ok dudes, I can set up a forum for you. The forum will be basic, no fancy graphics and stuff as I see no need for it. Gotta check if I can get an extra domain name, else it will be a subsite of zeus if you don't mind. EDIT: I added a new category to our forums to get it started. Please register to our ZEUS forums before posting, thank you. This is only a temporary solution until a dedicated forum is up. You can access it through the ZEUS homepage or directly using THIS link. Webspace: As we host a shitload of addons already I think I can't offer more then 150-200 MB. Should be plenty for missions and other mapmaking related files, though. Correct me if I am wrong. Traffic: We have 1 Terabyte of monthly traffic for free, guess that's enough. The site is very fast, I get 100 kb/s+ from home with 768 DSL and 2-3 MB/s from work. Timeframe: I will be very busy this weekend so I think I cannot get it done before next week. Please bear with me. Testserver: We have a full featured, private Linux testserver  featuring OFPWatch and a huge set of addons. I will give login and admin password to a restricted group which we will define after people start registering on the new Revival Mission forum. Concerning upload of maps and addons to the gameserver: Please understand that (at least in the beginning) this can only be done through me or other server admins I will name in the new forum when it's done. I know this is bad for flexibility but I hope you understand my concerns with letting people I don't know (yet) to fiddle around on our gameserver. Addons: I will NOT install every addon on the server to not compromise its stability. Only tested and MP compatible stuff with fixed addon dependancies etc. will make it in. Please bear that in mind when you design your missions to be tested on our server. Please post further suggestions here. A personal note: I am happy to offer our resources for this project as I think new quality missions are what OFP needs most to stay alive. However I have a full time job, a fiancée and a real life too. Please bear with me when things don't happen as fast as you might expect. If you (understandably) feel you need 1000% availability and dedication from my side I suggest to find another possibility as I simply cannot guarantee it. That said, I hope this initiative takes off and provides the community a lot of fun missions to play! I'd say our objective has been achieved when Avon removes the quote from her signature  you can contact me through shrike@ofp-zeus.com YT Shrike

Well I think it's natural the US attracts more attention and hence more criticism than other countries. In the end the US are in a position where domestic decisions and developments as well as their foreign policy have a huge influence on present and future of many other countries, if not the world as a whole. Especially when official policy seems to be to export (or impose) their values on the rest of the world. The USA bear a high responsibility and unfortunately for the future of all it is handled very poorly at the moment. Eventually this problem will solve itself as every entity dominating by power and power alone failed in the long run....the difference to ancient times being the "blast radius" of their fall, so to say. To sum it up: Some may be overly critical. But I think they're entitled to be because when GWB farts, the world stinks.
