It is very cool but I must admit it took longer to get used to than in pure flight-sims. I'm allmost willing to bet that everyone wants one as soon as ArmA is out. It really gives you the edge you need when you master it. At first I had difficulties coordinating my head and mouse-movement as a soldier (moving my mouse and my head left simultaneously can be disorienting at times). Give it a day and its as natural as any flight-sim.

If thats when the BIOS POST is finished and its about to load Windows, then I'd say a re-install of Windows is in order. And considering your previous errors I'd definitely re-format and re-install Windows.

Use this bios along with Asus' windows flashing-tool (Asus Update). Its the easiest way. What do you mean the BIOS is "gone"? No more than with any other CPU. I dont see why you would remove any from the heatsink, especially if its the original one. The type Intel use isnt very good at flowing out so they need to apply more. I'd either keep it as it is or buy a small Artic Silver syringe, scrape off all the old paste and apply a thin film of Artic Silver on the CPU. Actually, thats what I did but I dont use the original heatsink either. Zalman ACU7700-something.

750MHz? Sure you dont mean Kingston HyperX 675MHz? Anyway, something is way off on your machine since Windows complains about a PCMCIA-controller on a stationary computer. Flash the BIOS to the latest version, load default values and try again.

If it uses your account's temp-folder you can move this folder to a different partition. [*]Right-click my computer and select properties [*]Go to Advanced and select Environment Variables [*]Select the line that reads the path for TEMP and click edit [*]Replace path (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp) to something like D:\TEMP or wherever you want the TEMP-folder to reside.

There is a difference between overdoing it and common sense. 750w is overdoing it Indeed it does. A 350 Antec, Mist, OCZ or Fortron Source can easily deliver more than a noname 400W PS (for example Chieftec). Since you already bought it you might aswell keep it. You wont save that much by selling it and buying a smaller one anyways. Nice to know I knew I had room for upgrades but it did'nt occur to me I had that much. I'm using a Mist 500w with a 7950GX2, 3x250GB, Adaptec ASC-2420SA (RAID5) and E6700. I'm amazed that I'm getting 70fps where I used to get 30 in FarCry (and 300 where I used to get 120'ish ) The FEAR benchmark is kinda funny: 0-25 fps: 0% , 25-40 fps: 2% , 40 < fps: 98% (min 38, avg 88, max 344). All that at 1280x1024, 4xAA, 16xAF, everything on max including softshadows. I have a question regarding the GX2. My 6800GT's fan runs in hi-speed mode on boot untill it enters Windows, then it calms down and only increase when the temp rise. It sounds like my 7950GX2 is spinning in hi-speed mode all the time. There is no difference whether I'm in Windows idle or in a game. GPU temp is at 55 on idle and 60-65 in games. Is that fan-speed normal? I find it noisy and annoying. I'm using Forceware 91.47 (latest WHQL). Is it driver-related?

You did'nt hold anything back when it came to the powersupply, thats for sure  Me, I'll stick with a Mist(Made by Antec to the same specs) 500w. Still more than enough for me. Since you're going to use it as both a application and file-server you should get 3x160GB and a great RAID-controller and run RAID5. But remember in RAID5 3x160=320GB space. If you need more space you can always add more drives later. Just make sure you got enough channels on the controller. Adaptec 2420 has 4 channels, 2820 has 8 channels.

It all comes down to what you want to serve. As a "amateur" server any motherboard does the job. The P5B-series got a very good bus transfer-rate but thats irrelevant for any server except a application-server running tasks with alot of data being processed. A Enterprise server eats RAM like there is no tomorrow if you use it to its potential I'd invest in alot of RAM (do you really need to run a Enterprise server?). But again, it all comes down to what kind of server you're using it as. Here are the keypoints for the different servers (everything else is 2nd priority): Database-server: tons of fast RAM File-server: fast storage solution (RAID5 or RAID10) Application-server: fast CPU and bus I'm guessing you are going to use it as a gaming server so it will be a application-server, but games are "light" software so I doubt the bus will make a difference. They're CPU-intensive more than anything else. If you really must get absolute top bus-performance you should buy Kingston HyperX PC8500 RAM. They are running 675MHz instead of the regular 667MHz. The motherboard specificly support these modules from Kingston and automaticly set the bus-speed accordingly for maximum performance. They are very expensive though (and hard to get these days). I also bought the same motherboard (P5B) but thats more out of previous experience with Asus' Intel-boards. Should do nicely with a E6700, 7950GX2, Adaptec ASC2420 and 3x250GB Seagate (RAID5). It could sound like I'm going to run a file-server but it really is just me being lazy when it comes to backups and want some added performance in the process Fingers crossed the post office delivers tomorrow.

A E6400 should do nicely. No point in going any higher unless gaming is the primary usage. ... Yes, the PVR-500-MCE is the best card around unless you want to spend 3x the amount on some "uber" card. Its also one of the few cards in that price-range with two tv-tuners. That means you can record something on one channel and at the same time watching something on another channel or watch two channels at once (picture in picture). Btw make sure the card is the MCE-version (MediaCenter Edition). The MCE-card is a little cheaper because it doesnt come with any tv-software because you use MediaCenter's own built-in SW, and yes, it comes with a MediCenter-compatible remote. In short: you cant go wrong with the PVR-500-MCE (damn! sounds like I'm at work, trying to sell you something ) I dont own the card myself, but I've installed and configured them for many customers at work. Its all great feedback. Hauppauge PVR-500 MCE product page

Unless MS is forcing you to buy games that require DX10 to run I dont see how MS is forcing anything upon you. Should we stay in the past and try to make the best out of what we have or should we try and step forward and make something entirely new that potentially will be better overall? I think Winxp is a better product than Win2000 and I think Win2000 is a better product than NT4. My gutt-feeling tells me that Vista will be a better product than Winxp. I dont see the problem why Vista will eventually be a minimum requirement for games one day. Most of todays games already are'nt supported on the Win9x-platform. I dont hear alot of crying there. Its funny that 90% of the MS-related complaints I hear are from people praising Linux. And its funny that if Linux really is so wonderful that it still only used in servers in any significant numbers and not on clients. I'm not trying to start a pissing-contest between Windows and Linux. I'm just trying to understand how Linux users think.

I'm guessing you're going to have this pc in the livingroom so you might want to consider one of the new Conroes. They run alot cooler than the terrible baking-oven, Pentium D that is. Remember; cool pc means silent pc. You might want to add Windows MCE to that shoppinglist. A WD HD is alot noisier than a Seagate (hint-hint). The TV-tuner card you want is Hauppauge WinTV PVR-500-MCE. This card is "cheap" because its designed for Windows MCE and therefor doesnt come with alot of software you dont need. Also, the PVR-500 has 2 tv-tuners so you can record one channel while watching another. I dont know much about the X1300, but if this is a tv-pc I'd got with a fanless GF7600GS. Its cheap, good performance and no added noise. The 360W Power supply is more than enough. If you manage to overload it then something is wrong with one of the components. As long as its a quality brand such as the brand you have chosen then you have nothing to worry about. This arguement say nothing really. Good for you that a 750W PS serves your purpose. Personally I stick to a 500W for a E6700, GF7950GX2 and 3x250GB HDs.

It sounds interesting. How does it play compared to Soldiers/Faces of War? I really like the micro-management in Soldiers. How is that in CoH?

The latest IB-version supports HRI (human readable image) when registering, but it requires perl magik to run on the server. For those who dont know, thats where you have to type whatever letters you see in in a picture in order to submit a registration. It should help filter out the majority of the bots registering.

Interview on friday by Electronic sports
shadow replied to Espectro (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - GENERAL
I believe the aim here was to put Arma on the mainstream-map to open some more eyes towards it. Ah so you're one of the interviewers there. You had some very valid questions there. BIS will host a recording of the entire interview shortly so everyone who was'nt there can listen to what they missed. Now.. back to poking Paul for the question about the rpglauncher-slot. -
Interview on friday by Electronic sports
shadow replied to Espectro (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - GENERAL
There was'nt alot of news for the regular OFP-player, but by the sound of it there was tons of it for the mainstream-players. All in all a very informative interview for the mainstream audience and thats what really matters to widen Arma's horizon. It was funny when the guys compared BF2/2142 to Arma before asking a question though Now i'm off to poke Paul with a pointy stick because I'm not happy with the answer I got from my question  -
There is no point in discussing O-T issues here. I just deleted 4 pointless posts in this thread. Use an existing thread in the Squad & Fanpages forum from now on whenever OFP.info or any other fansite goes down.

No, you need 12 unless you dont need goalkeepers.

Last I recall we did'nt add any music into ECP except Tim's music during the installation.

Thanks for the explanation. The helo model loads correctly but it keeps starting the ending start-sound script whenever I touch the cyclic and none of the cockpit instruments load. I did notice the helo flightmodel is very sluggish, but that is most likely a unfinished feature.

All I do is set throttle to idle and apply full rudder towards the side I'm spinning. As soon as the spin decelerates I slowly counter it with the stick. Dont know if there is anything else I should do.
-
Have you tried LOMAC? I dont know how reallistic it is, but the few times I've flown the F-15 I've gotten into a spin every now and then. Some times its easy to get out of it, other times I end up too close to the ground for comfort. Never managed to get the Hog into a spin though. I have'nt been able to push any of the default planes into a spin in FS2004 or FSX either.

Can you explain how you add helos to it?
