I don't speak Czech or Russian so when I am playing as the CDF or the Russians how am I supposed to know whats going on? I would love to know czech and russian but the truth is I don't have time to learn it. Great video. It would be nice for them to have accents at least. Just one word: subtitles. :P so when all my men are yelling out unit positions in the middle of a battle I am going to have to be looking at subtitles trying to read and shoot? I think when you are on CDF's side, you hear them talk in english, and when you play as other faction, you hear them talk their own language.... That would work. -
that ui is no worse than Arma 2's

You do remember that OFP2 will be on PS3 which will be full open world, same as Arma2. There are plenty of "outdoor" open world games, GTA4, Saints Row2, Infamous, Prototype, Mercs2, I could go on and on. Â Certainly not military sims, but they're not bad looking. making a game open world, there's tons of optimizations working to make it happen. DIfference between those games and Arma 2 is, they are caching on two complete different platforms. Arma 2 is heavy DirectX9.0 dependant, while other games are using OpenGL The only way to make Arma 2 works on PS3 as withDirectX, is to rebuild the system from scratch with OpenGL, which is PS3 used platform and In my experience very different in terms of coding and optimizations. (or if BIS has a PS3 team to port the engine for PS3, then it's highly possible that Arma 2 is going to be released on PS3, meanwhile, I stand as I do) Be it how strong the hardware is, it's all down to developer to know how to use it. You are to late the party is over and we agreed to not agree on this subject. Maybe BIS can add a pink love filter for the community that would help alot. Btw. in the video there is the prove that it has to do with the light setting have a look at the grass when those ChDKZ guys in the UAZ fire the M40. but again, that white blop looks like a gas of poop  lol nice comment puts you directly on the ignore list oh come on! I was being sarcastic -

Hey Jakfox, PS3 can produce stunning graphics, see SOCOM:CONFRONTATION and KILL ZONE 2, UNCHARTED all for $300.00 console as opposed to $1000-1,500.00 for a PC, as far as complexity I think it boils down to lack of keyboard/mouse on the PS3, although few games were developed supporting mouse/keyboard. As I was reading through this post, for example unreal tournament 3 on the PS3 supports user mod and keyboard/mouse. I used to PC game way back but new games kept the urge to change my hardware every now and then, plus video card compatibility with games issues, extra settings you have to play with and never mind the crashes and freezes that happened often. I’m thinking of building a PC just for this game if it doesn’t go PS3. Would you be able to help me with chipsets? noth of games have something in common. Fixed texture size, and they are more of 'indoor' games with no really huge maps. they might do very strong stuff, but to think that BIS will be able to crank up as much as Guerilla did with more than 17 million dollar budget. To break up the limitating GPU, they had to relay on PS3's CPU and switch everything on that. But you also forget one thing, killzone 2 is all hot and all, but suffers from 'area loading' and MGS4 has same issue, but it's even worse in there. Loading happends because of engine/hardware limitation. Have you heard of M.A.G "Massive Action Game" by Zipper, if no then google it? It is supposed to be 256 Multiplayer. You sound like a smart guy so maybe you can help me pick affordable/good chipset. Well I heard about MAG, and what they have been saying is just a promise. I also can promise you to make a SAG (Super action game) with 1000 players in real-time. But that's something we'll see. EDIT:: By the look of it, they have seem developed certain server architecture that will shuffle all of needed data. and from the screenshot, graphically it will look as good as Quake wars, which is ofcourse logical.

please some hand to hand combat or knifes
Raphier replied to oscar19681's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
the reason knife kills work in games is because of it's agility and speed. But for realism matter, it just won't work, it's one of overpowered weapons, a cheap kill sort of way. That's why I am afraid of such implentation into Arma 2, because if it's agile and over-powered, it will kill, and many players will try to use it as an exploit rather than a game mechanic, or if it's realistic and slow, it'll barely useful. So we could here logically think of a medium, not too agile nor too fast, but there's no such think as that for a knife in games. It's either too fast, or it's either too slow. -

Respawn? That's realistic and immersive I don't need to witness as I posted on the previous page real life situations which I saw recreated- and yes, really happened. I had a situation while playing OFP's excellent vietnam mod Unsung with SLX, in which while attempting to infilitrate an enemy outpost, I was pinned down in extremely dense foliage, out of ammo and my men were dead. Being that it was dark and extremely low visiblity, I couldn,t see where my comrades had fallen to retrieve their munitions and I surely couldnt stand up as enemy MG's were actively looking for me. I waited for a long time, sneaking while prone until I was able to get within a madman's sprint of one machinegunner by the campfire. Drew my knife, and made my all-or-nothing lunge and was able to hack him down. Luckily his mates were about 100m off at that point and was thereby able to plant myself with my newly acquired gun and take them out. Sure I could have just turned the game off or repawned, but that was far more immersive and one game that I'll never forget. Edit- Not all mission have an 'escape' until the objective is completed. I imagine, you came close, pressed a button, a small very fast animation happened and plank , he was dead in matter of 0.01 seconds? -

But the point is, if you've played ofp/arma, you should know that finding and shooting target is already hard, coordinating in houses is hard. While you think that when you've out of ammo, you'll be able to sneak onto somebody? I mean   I want to witness such situation. you should witness is too, to understand how great pain in the is is going to be. Out of ammo? resupply. No supply? respawn. as simple as that. Having cq knife, might be cool and nice if implented, but dude, I know not if it will be any useful in such game as arma. (test it in the game, you can have a pistol, act liek a knife. Try to sneak onto somebdoy, touch that person and fire a gun, which is techinally a knife hit). Try it on singleplayer, try it on multiplayer. What's the percent that you will survive the attack? 5%? 10% I think it's merely 0.5%, and trying to escape is 40%. Resupplying is about 50%. so escaping is more valuable than trying to knife somebody. it's risky and works very rarely. -

Raphier replied to oscar19681's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I think the only reason we want knives and close-combat techinques is because it's "Teen Cool" Just like fast-roping from helicopters or a pilot maneuvering some unnatural 'teen cool' move with Fixed wing aircrafts. If this will be implented in Arma 2, it will look not as 'Teen cool" as many think it will be and only arguments will pour throught roofs. Even if some people use close-combat techniques during being caught, but take a note that you will hardly get caught in Arma 2, you'll just respawn youself to avoid such situation. So you basically will see people move towards enemy positioned wall and see them switch to a knife and move form the corner and get killed. I've fitnessed this god knows how much. It's stupid and idiotic behaviour, but you see people aren't maneuvering in such idiosm when they don't have tools for such behaviour. my 0.02$ -

Nature can be strange and the sky can have all sort of colors depanding on day time, air pollution... i don´t want to go deeper into this but thats how it is. This is a picture taken out of my window the color ranges from orange to brown it also effects the surrounding. If you need more brown pictures i can show it to you later i think i got some more this was only a quick search in my database. [/url] Well, it's yellowish brown because it's either dawn or morning. but Arma 2's newest video tells us it's 13.05, that's a day, a time when sun is high up in he sky, only two varied colors should be seen, highly blue and highly yellow. or if it's cloudy, so dark blue. Brown and yellow should only be dominant at dusk and dawn. Or during a very strong cloud of fire (sorta like after atomn bomb or city in fire ) -
not to mention those are pretty much Pre-alpha screens from GC2008

Well, Like I said before, the bloom seems to occur during certain weather condition. If so, it's not really a big deal... -
Which replacement file were you using with ACE? MP or SP? I've only played with FFN, ACE, ECS and many other Mods/AddOns briefly but it seems to work pretty well. I only tried it with the MP replacement file. I'll have to try it a little further, maybe I'm just seeing things. Â Just MP as recommended

That's all well and good, but a lot of people here should try to learn what "constructive criticism" actually is. Imagine you worked on something maybe a 100 hours a work, putting your heart and soul into it, and then someone comes along with their "constructive criticism" saying this sucks, that sucks, how would you feel? Oh and you have no place telling posters to "leave the board", don't do it please. Well, I agree heavily on this, that might feel very bad for somebody, but you also have to take into account that I am willing to pay 60$ for such crafted experience with risk. My pennies are in danger to get suckumbed into something may turn into something I dislike, or I can find it elsewhere. And when we say 'sucks' It's mostly not about 100 hours of work (I look at you s.t.a.l.k.e.r), but it's about an expectation we expect from such amount work. ( so when I bash somebody's work, that's my money speaking  ) it's just that of 'best bang for buck' these days, so were very nervous about arma 2, so if somebody screams awful comments, it's not because they hate your work, but because they love you to death  -
Hmm, just wanted to say, Once I took the ACE folder out, FFN started to work as intended

QFT ^^ but this anim is indeed one of the best through the game (with the "sprint-to-lying anim" ) At least you die with pure style I can imagine that. Pure death.

Lol That Airport seems to look bigger than any village or city (fail)

well, actually in the current state or ARMA (1), when you're on prone and you double-tap the W button, there's pure hot animation from getting up to running and it is pretty fluid while holding the button. so...

hmm, gonna try your idea pretty soon, I am little busy at the moment. EDIT:: Currently the only difference I see, the enemy is smarter, sends a team to flank from side ( Â ) and overally makes better decisions. But it looks like they're still not using any smoke, nor any fire support, nor make foxholes or enter any houses. EDIT 2:: Lol, I witnessed CAS airstrike A-10 being stuck in the air . Â Also everybody seems to use binoculars to call the Artillery, but no visible impacts thus far. (No artillery fire)
