When it's optional/configurable, it's ok. Otherwise it would totally mess up with the action menu, for which the mouse wheel is a better use.
-
Indeed this is a very severe issue and needs to be fixed. Otherwise creating maps/scripts is absolutely impossible. You need to be able to switch to the desktop during the game (especially in editor mode). In Arma 2 I used to switch to the desktop with Ctrl + ESC.

Up to my Old Tricks again: God like powers of Vision
roguetrooper replied to big_t's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Until you are not moving away from your computer and do the real thing (whatever) out there in the real world, it remains 'imperfect'. How actually can * sitting in a comfortable chair in a warm room * with hands being the only body parts that move deliver a 100% real experience? I a game (until programmed accordingly) you can even stand for one hour with a raised gun looking through the optics. Try this in the real world. Thousand hours of playing a "shooter" (sorry for that evil, childish, stupid and unfitting word) do NOT replace a single hour of real military(like) training. Since the view perspective is optional, it's ok. As somebody said before me here, 1st person isn't fully realistic either. It "feels" a bit like wearing a heavy motorbike helmet with the edges of the glass being blackened. -
Please bring back enemy uniform stealing as a toggable option or something
roguetrooper replied to QuiteFranklyMyMaN's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
It might be disabled by default, but there should be a command to toggle whether a unit is allowed to switch uniforms (maybe even controlled/watched by the server only): unit allowUniformChange true/false; (I have found several commands concerning uniform, such as https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/addUniform, but general permission command). -
Stop camera movement while "DisableUserInput true"?
roguetrooper posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
The current rotation impulse of the camera is maintained when the input is disabled. How can you prevent the camera to rotate, when you execute DisableUserInput true; ? (I still want the camera to be in 1st or 3rd person player view, while the input is disabled.) -
MP compatible sound effect at a position
roguetrooper posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
In a MP map I have an action menu for players that contains the playback of a sound. I'd like to have this sound heard by other players at the position of the player that performs that action. Maybe say3D with the multiplayer framework could do the job (?): [nil, nil, rSPAWN, [player, "PMC_ElectricBlast2"], { (_this select 0) say3D (_this select 1) }] call RE; At least in the SP editor preview it works (can be heard). Anyone who thinks that it might not be heard in MP by other players (at near distance)? -
The ACR gun "CZ Scorpion Evo 3 (CCO)" misses the flashlight, i.e. the 3D model has one mounted but there is no flashlight function (in the dark).

Scorpion misses the flashlight
roguetrooper replied to roguetrooper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Great, I thought I have checked every vanilla weapon for light and IR (at night with nv). So this superstupid thread can be deleted. However, wouldn't it be more logical when the SD version had IR? -
Sniper rifle training?
roguetrooper replied to jaggedscars's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
1. Since the editor is the core and main feature of Arma, why don't you place a player character and some targets on a map? Takes about 30 seconds. 2. Open your main menu / control settings and define your own keys for zeroing. -
Weapon class names and another suggestion
roguetrooper replied to iceman77's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Something minor to add... It would be nice when all weapon and magazine names would either consist of capital letters only or small letters only (maybe weapons capital only and magazines small ones only). I don't mean the removal of _ and numericals, but all LETTERS only. Of course for Arma II it's too late now, maybe in can still be implemented in Arma III. For "addweapon" it does not matter, but for "primaryweapon" and "hasweapon" you 'always' have to look up a reliable source or make a quick test run giving yourself a weapon and start the editor preview with sth like "hint str (primaryweapon player)" to see the correct spelling. -
Scorpion misses the flashlight
roguetrooper replied to roguetrooper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Sir, with that answer you are disqualifying yourself. But indeed, all other vanilla weapons with a 3D modelled flashlight also have a working lightsource. That's why I was actually complaining about that certain weapon... -

Infantry Combat-Boring and Unrealistic?
roguetrooper replied to THEBLITZ6794's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
You can't be blamed for not using mods concerning point 1. Such essential things need to be fixed in the vanilla (simulation...) game. -
Creating local markers using onMapSingleClick
roguetrooper replied to Harzach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Without any further scripting you can place markers by DOUBLE clicking on the map... But atm I don't know whether they are local in MP. -
I also find it a bit annyoing that x public servers almost require x+1 different mod combinations. Mods exist because it's easy to apply them to the game and not because they add something special and 'required' to an incomplete game. I strongly hope that at least the official addon politics will be changed in Arma III. Up to day there are people who are confused by A2 and OA. A3 with all later official addons should be a single game with everything requiring the base game. At least all the vanilla stuff should not confuse the players.

Strange rating-problem when shooting with rifle at tanks
roguetrooper posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
When you shoot a regular infantry rifle bullet (not penetrating) even at armored vehicles (own side crew inside), your rating drops instantly to "very hostile" and friendly AI starts shooting at you. It's ok to become an outlaw by destroying own troops/vehicles. But becoming an outlaw by hitting a friendly Abrams with a single bullet in the heat of the battle seems to be very exaggerated. Sure you can bypass this issue by scripting, but it rather should be fixed by a patch. Put a tank of the player's side onto the map, put oneachframe { hintsilent str rating player }; into its initline and shoot e.g. with a M4 at it. -
Strange rating-problem when shooting with rifle at tanks
roguetrooper replied to roguetrooper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I've tried it with many armored and unarmored vehicles after I've noticed that in the map I am currently working on shooting with a rifle at an armored vehicle (Warrior) causes rating problems. And I wouldn't say that there is such a great difference between an Abrams and a FV510 concerning a single bullet shot. The Abrams was just an example for something (with groupmates inside) that a rifle bullet hit should have no effect on. As I said, in a new plain test map for examining that problem it did not occur although there are the same circumstances (resistance hostile to eveeryone, BAF resistance group, with groupmembers inside vehicle). Can't explains what's going on. I just can say for sure that in the problem-map there are no user-made circumstances that might artificially cause that behaviour. -
Strange rating-problem when shooting with rifle at tanks
roguetrooper replied to roguetrooper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I don't use any mods and I never have (at least not since the latest installment of Windows/Arma). Latest beta + BAF + PMC + ACR. I have a group of BAF grenadiers, all made resistance sided by joining them to a non present resistance unit with the highest rank. Resistance is friendly to nobody. When I shoot at a woodland FV510 Warrior (BAF) with my groupmates being inside, I get a bad rating. Just noticed that on a fresh and plain testing map that this problem does not occur. The map where it happens (editor preview) has the same side/group/unit setup. -
How to prevent vehicle-movement-command on single map click?
roguetrooper posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
When you are the commander of a vehicle (or group leader with subordinate as driver), a single click on the map automatically causes the command "drive to that object/location". How can you (temporarily) avoid this command? I have a onmapsingleclick{}-script triggered by the groupleader which I do not want to be interfered by the move-command. Is there a scripting way to avoid the automatic move-command (solutions excluding exiting the vehicle and such)? -
noob here - I want to get into A2/Day-Z...where to start?
roguetrooper replied to cunningStunts's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
1. Actually metalcraze is right. 2. What is GameStop? 3. Every now and then you see here in the forum "lost my steam blabla", "formatted HD, lost my steam arma", "steam problem 1", "steam problem 2". 4. Just an idea, because Arma X has the same prize but contains much more. Not ment as offence :p , but sorry can't resist: You haven't played Arma II since 2009 and now you can't wait 1-2 days... ;) -
Infantry Combat-Boring and Unrealistic?
roguetrooper replied to THEBLITZ6794's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
What is most annoying (will probably never be fixed since it's an issue since at least 2006): * AI infantry shoots with bazooka at infantry (even single soldiers) * AI fumbles around with pistols although they have rifles with enough ammo * AI shoots a whole magazine within two seconds at a single infantry man (i.e. it never uses single fire mode) -
noob here - I want to get into A2/Day-Z...where to start?
roguetrooper replied to cunningStunts's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Go into a shop and look for a black box labelled "Arma X". This includes everything (official) of the Armaverse plus two large double sided paper maps. (Personally I never understood what people find about that Steam stuff, I want the DVDs in my hands). Actually, the editor is the main feature of Arma :) -
Switch from 1st person to 3rd person
roguetrooper replied to Claystone's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
When I have a new game I always play it for three minutes with the default settings, then I spend an hour to read and configure graphics and controls. Sorry for being an [insert name here], but I never understand why people ask how to get things to work that can be configured in detail on one's own... :p -
Clearing message history
roguetrooper replied to BrawijayaVRaptor's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
clearRadio; enableSentences false; Edit: Ah you want to make a record while you are participating in maps not made by you? It's not possible to disable that chat by ingame/main menu, only by scripting (i.e. while making your own maps). -
scripting in baby steps
roguetrooper replied to Sneakers O'Toole's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
In the init-line of a logic: onEachFrame { hintsilent format ["[%1,%2,%3] [%4 ASL] [%5°]",round (position vehicle player select 0),round (position vehicle player select 1),round (position vehicle player select 2), round (getposASL vehicle player select 2), round getdir vehicle player]; }; ;)
