  1. Good day, after installing the hotfix for 1.58, the water reflecion settings and the new effects, seem to be gone. Before the patch it looked like this in multiplayer, but single player was fine. Maybe it could be "very hot fixed" by adding the line into the "xxxxxx.Arma3Profile", but i don't know the words...   3. I remembered the shadow detail in particle effects of Armed Assault, which was great but not present in ArmA2 so i reportet it on the Issue Tracker. Visuals aren't the most important thing, but these shadows would get the particle effects more connected to the environement and give much more detail and contrast to them. I think it would be an easy way to enhance the beauty of ArmA2. So please vote if you like and don't if you don't :P Grtz Ra!dar

Well if you vote for it, the possibility of it's comeback in ArmA2 might rise :P Only shadow makes you to see the shape of objects and generates a deeper 3D world (because you can kinda see how the form of the object is trough it's shadow on other things). I hate to have shadow disabled in games, it makes the games feel so flat and gives them a lack of contrast. Without no shadow, there's no light ;) so give the smoke some yin-yang :yin-yang: :D DMarkwick got me about thinking of columns of smoke etc. Casting shadow. It would definetly look great. Would give you an aid to read the dimensions of it and give a deeper environement impression. I know that the graphics is not the most important thing, but i think it would enhance the graphics alot. I think that the beauty of the ArmA2 game (and it's predecessors) are the quantity of all the littel details which interact with each other. But smoke doesn't react very much, it's just there. Smoke reaction to heli downwash and interaction with objects would be great too (now i'm going to far :p)
  5. Well i ment recieving shadows, but casting shadows would be the extra (but maybe it would get too hardware intensive). The main reason i'm interested in that topic is because the only lighting particle effects have, is the static light of day and in the night they can allso be lighted by light sources. Makes it feel strangely disconnected to the rest of the environement. Edit: Check out how it looks if you throw some smoke grenades at night and light parts of it with a carlight, fire, muzzle flash, explosion etc. It would be a nice and easier way to darken the particles in shadow at day (like i described it @ issue tracker) ---------- Post added at 06:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:06 PM ---------- I searched my old armed assault movies to show of in motion pictures, how it looks.   6. I played around with beta 819 installed. I had KORD machineguns on one side of a valley, a TUSK tank on the other side and me as a civilian in the middle to watch the lasershow at night. But the weird thing is, when i look at tracers coming directly at me and until approx 20° angle, i don't see them. I don't know if it's just beta but maybe something to look at. Because incoming 12.7 tracer at night scares :D (but you can trace them back to the gunner)
  7. I stopped believing... i think 40% play with crosshair, 35% play with scopes and 25% believe getting drunk in crouched position is realistic :D
  8. Well i have been playing for some hours with the newest beta. Performance is good, no crashes and great action. One big thing i just dislike is still the: If i crouch with a non optic sight weapon, the sights go and sway all around. Everybody is running around with scoped weapons, because everything else is retarded, because of only the possibility standing or prone. Allso it would be great to have more configuration options on weapons: Ak47+scope or reddot, grenade lauchner, DMR without scope (m14) and many more possibilites. Arma2 is evolving :)

  10. My experience is that antialialialiasing makes the game kind of sluggish since the newer patches, now i play without it. Besides of that GREAT! all the covering fire makes it more alive! Grtz

  12. In Superpowers there's a new weapon buy system, which i like alot! But if i die and respawn, it mixes up what i had before and the standart equipment of the class i am. Here i got an RPK with 3x drum magazines +2frag +2smoke +3PG-7VR. When i dropped out the grenades, RPG's where underneath them. Before respawn: RPK +3xdrum RPG +2PG-7VR Additional stuff after: 1xdrum 2xsmoke 2xfrag I like the beta, AI seems to act faster, but maybe it's placebo again :D Looks like it's going in the right direction! I think there are so many little things new after 1.05 which no one ever saw and noticed, they should release another manual with all the new stuff... It's kinda hard to check out the whole game after every new beta to see what's chanched just because of a lack of communication. The "changing to rocket weapons" animation still plays to it's end even if the unit is dead. Grtz Ra!dar
  13. Speed of sound simulation of rifles firing seems to be gone again, but with it most of the problems with missing machinegun/rifle sounds. I played Armed Assault recently and the sound there is much better because of the 3D EAX stuff. I think they made a step back with the ArmA2 sound engine.

    Broken Sound

    After some short testing it seems that the missing sound problem is mostly gone in 59008. Just sometimes i have missing machinegun sounds in the first burst of an AI shooting in the distance, but the second burst is allways ok. I think the "speed of sound" simulation for the firearms is gone too, assuming that was the cause of the problem. Grtz Ra!dar

    Yes something is definitely strange with the sound in the betas. I just made a simple firefight mission in the editor, in which 4 teams fight against 4. But most of the firing sounds, which are more than ~50m away, are missing. The machinegun sounds are, when they appear, just one or two shots. I tried 58814, 58879 and 58930. Maybe it has something to do with the sound delay (speed of sound), which seams to be new in the betas. In 1.03 i hear the firing sound of a rifle in the same time as i see the flash, even if the shooter is 300m away. Edit: Here it is: [58729] Fixed: Simulate speed of sound Maybe there's a connection between this, because as soon as the speed of sound simulation should work, the distance of the sound to the player is big enaugh, the problems come and sounds get lost.

  17. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=74364 http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=82645 It's certenly not realistic that a trained soldier would misaligne the sights of an assaultrifle so much, he can't even see the whole sights and with a M107 he's perfectly fine shooting and crouching, it's just nonsense. Even more if he has a heavy load on his back. Misalignement would be good for me if the soldier would be hurt, exhausted or under heavy fire, not when he's crouching... Even when your completely wasted and out of breath, you can shoot more precise, because there's no misalignement. I think most people like to shoot with scoped weapons or the crosshair, so they don't care about this. So there's no argument for "this is a feature". And if it's a feature: It's bugged or just a feature without any logic ;) Grtz Ra!dar
  18. The terrain detail i allways had on low, because it ate away all my fps (the most when looking through a scope, trying to shoot someone running through the high grass). But now i found out that object detail decides how high the fps hunger of the grass is (i knew it chanches the grass density, but not how big the influence is). Example: Looking through DMR scope through the grass ------------------------------------------------------ Object: very low------->60fps Terrain: low Object: very low------->60fps Terrain: very high - Object: low------->49fps Terrain: low Object: low------->47fps Terrain: very high - Object: normal------->27fps Terrain: low Object: normal------->25fps Terrain: very high - Object: very high------->27fps Terrain: low Object: very high------->25fps Terrain: very high That means the only way to look through the grass with a scope, with decent fps, is to have the object detail on low and the terrain detail hardly matters? Why not just seperate these settings and don't mix em up? I know that the grass is much denser if you change the object detail from low to normal, but i think 30fps less is a little much.     Patch 1.03 Satisfaction Survey

    Like the new patch, but i still got my little personal issues, just a few seem to have them too. Antialiasing finally works and makes the game look even greater, the campaign i haven't tested jet, but if it's working: great! So overall an improvement. Leaves of bushes are no longer an shield against Rockets, m203, explosive rounds etc, but a normal branch still provides great cover. I mean i don't know if an explosive round will get triggered, an explosive tank round or an m203 for instance, but if it would be triggered, the cover would get torn to peaces, and the second round would fly trough, which doesn't happen. So i don't see the point of a little bush even triggering explosive rounds. Second, still if you are crouched with an weapon, the animation is like he doesn't care how the weapon wanders around, aiming in crouched position is like pissing against the wind. You just get hit and don't hit what you are aiming for. I don't think we got an official statement if it's a bug or a feature, but i definitely try to reason against. And some little things like if you're in a su-25, the crosshair isn't lined up with the optics, wooden/corrugated iron fences, road signs etc stop bullets or deflect them like they penetrated a tree (12.7 is needed to penetrate what you could penetrate with 5.56), you can't buy an empty vehicle in warfare and so many things just arent there, money sending you can't even choose how much you want to give, there has been promised a great new thing how you are hidden in the gras for distand enemys, things from arma didn't made it to arma2 like the shadow in the smoke and some "fixed in arma, back in arma2" bugs are back again, like the ass shaking planes at high speed. So many things are not explained anywhere, like the game-logic for city, city center, city connection. In the changelog there stands something about a fix in the 3D editor, but the 3D editor doesn't really work (which has allso been said it will be in the game). I have nothing against reasoned saying, that something didn't make it, but it will come later, where working at this at the moment etc. I know you decide, but i would find it nice to have a certain communication. Maybe many questions or problems i have, i could search and read so many posts in this forum and spend days reading nonsense. Maybe i might find something interesting. I appreciate the work all of the involved are doing and i really like how the game shapes, you are working at modding tools, fixing bugs, making the server, but i think nowbody of the "ordinary mortals" really know what's going on, there's nearly no official communication and if i'm lucky i stumble over something in this forum, but that is all. Yes i wrote a hudge text, maybe in the wrong discussion, but it feels like a death statement in arma that sounds something like this: A lot of good work gets lost, because the lack of little bit more work. (And i definitely can understand how shitty it is to tweak such a hudge thing in the last part of the projekt, maybe not really the overview over all the things and people moaning about how to do it better) What ever Ra!dar (ps: I LOVE the game :D)

    Post you most annoying bug !

    For me the most annoying "Bug" (most people seem not to care, many say its "realistic" like it is here), when i try to shoot crouched through the sights, with a weapon without optical sights, the weapon plays "i move so smooth", travels around a bit and tilts the sight line. With the crosshair shooting is more precise crouching than standing, with scopes allso and somwhere a hint on the upper right side of the screens tells me to crouch or prone to get the weapon more stabil. For me this is the biggest gameplay killer, but i don't care, i love da game! (Still without it, it would be better;)) I've written it in an other post, no reaction, so i bitch and moan here! :D (Seems the right place) A hilarious bug i had playing the coop campaign, firing one rifle round at a full speed HMMW with the 3 teammates inside, vehicle blows up, slides from the street, all teammates dead, suddenly everybody respawns, the two AI begin firing everything at me they got, but i'm suddenly immortal (and so they are), in the rush of the fight two civilians get killed, some farmers join the fight, i can't stop laughting, another car catches fire, heavy bullet rain, AI mates are out of ammo and collect farmer bullets while running around panicked. Sometimes funny, sometimes masochism: ArmA bugs. Grtz Ra!dar ps: With low fps i had allso a mouse lag, but disabeling verticalsinc in nvidia settings solved it.
