hope a guy with a gun will look at me again

Explain the meaning of that statement please! Â

    Armed Assault trailer

Gun dogs are dogs trained to retrieve wild foul and other game that has been SHOT. Lt hunter - U must be some dumb city boy or something to give an answer like that! Â Anyway, the scenery in that trailer is looking stunning and if BIS is implementing better environmental sounds together with birds and flying insects like I've heard, then this is gonna be one cool simulator! Â

    Armed Assault trailer

OK calm down now all U chaps! Remember Eda Mcroch said the video was quite old already! In which case things have moved on since then! Just one thing though ARMA.DK - whats that 2007 release date on your website all about? Â Anyway a big thanks to Eda Mcroch and his secret mesanger for this sneaky news! Â

    ArmA Progress Updates

They're form G2 indeed (same as in PC Gamer article). Level's pages 2-3 contains ArmA pics (except from lower right picture, which is from Game3), pages 4-6 Game2, the second (Score's) article is about ArmA entirely. Thanks mate I kinda thought so! Anyway just been watching that new trailer - can't understand a word the guy sais but the footage looks awsome! Things are hotting up around here! Any chance of a general translation of the trailer intro anyone? Â

    ArmA Progress Updates

Hmm! Are those pictures in the articles all of ARMA or is some of it Game2? One set of pictures shows a sequence of a tank demolishing part of a building. Â Â I did not know BIS was gonna implement this sort of stuff in ARMA - only in game2. I'm intrigued! Â

    FFUR - Huge Release !!

I've just been doing some soldier stomping and running again in FFUR (Just keeping in practice ready for the next release!, and to be honest the sounds that TB has already impemented are just about perfect! Â There is adequate rustling and shufling of kit without any noticeabe loop to the effect. Why fix what doesn't need fixing? Their still the most convincing sounds and they dont drive U mental! Nice work TB! Â PS Still looking forward to Xmas!! Â

about swaying grass - hope you can turn it off

Hmm! Did the moving grass in OFPE cause any performance problems though. Or was it well optimised and the only thing wrong with it is that U didn't like it? Grass does move in the wind if it is meadow grass that is not grazed by animals. Did U see any sheep or cows grazing the grass whilst playing OFPE?! Â Like I've said in another thread, with a bit of luck BIS will make the animated grass optional in the graphics menu if they think it has the potential for causing a performance hit on lower spec systems. However, I think that your gripe is more of a visual one. I've not played OFPE so I can't comment much on its visual accuracy. I've seen the videos however, and I can say that the grass makes the terrain look a hundred times more realistic than those baren landscapes of OFP! Â

Maybee BIS will be including a lawn mower in ARMA so that those thant don't like their grass can tidy it up properly! Â

    FFUR - Huge Release !!

So long as they don't sound like the new FDF ones! The repetitiveness of those new sounds drives U round the bend after the first few hundred yards! I prefered the old FDF sounds. A little bit of kit rattling is OK but keep it from sounding corny! PS. TB, U did a great job of the breathing sounds when running though! - Quality - thats what I like! Looking forward to christmas! Hey Thunderbird! This thread is slowing down! I think we need some exciting news from you to perc it up again! Â

What sort of physics do you want for the heli's?

OK I did not manage to explain it very well! When I said tilt I meant the whole aircraft! As far as I'm aware not that many choppers actually have tilting rotors an any case this is not common. Instead the rotors have a centre spindle which controls the pitch of the rotors from front to back, side to side etc. In other words when U push forward on the stick (cyclic controls) the rotor blades that are at the rear of the chopper as they rotate are given more lift than those at the front. This makes the chopper put its tail up and nose down so that it flies forwards. Im sure there are plenty of articles on the internet that can explain to you exactly how this spindle works! Â I think possibly what U can't understand is why most choppers in OFP seem to be 'nose diving' when in forward motion far more than what U see in real life. A possible explanation of this might be that the choppers simulated in the game are usually in a hurry (war is a hasty thing!, wheras those Sea King helis or the local airfoce Lynxs going about their training are flying at a much more sensible speed. There are problems with flying choppers at high speeds due to the way the rotors rotate and thus it is only done when haste is needed! I hope U are a bit wiser, like I said do a search if U really want to learn heli aerodinamics. Thats not what this thread is for and the moderators will be getting itchy! Â

What sort of physics do you want for the heli's?

Ground effect is where the chopper would experience increased lift close to the ground as it came to rest on it's own air cushion! If you hover steady and slowly decrease the collective untill you start to decend slowly, you should continue to decend slowly untill about 10feet or so from the ground after which you would come to rest on your air cushion and hover untill you ruduced some more collective. This does not happen in OFP so I would have to assume that there is NO ground effect in OFP not too much. Â Regarding the terrain following feature, I find that it is only pressent when I use the keyboard controlls. The minute I touch my Cyborge 3D Gold joystic the feature switches off and I have to make sure that I increase collective manually as I approach elevated terrain or else - Wham! Â

    ArmA Progress Updates

If U wait just a bit longer for Thunderbird84 to release version 6 of his great FFUR mod, U will avoid all the little bugs and the mod will be like playing a brand new game! Follow his thread in these forums, I expect he will be anouncing it very soon! With this mod ARMA can definetely wait! Â Â

What sort of physics do you want for the heli's?

If a chopper did not put its nose down it could not fly forwards, it would simply hover. In order for it to move in any direction it would have to tilt its rotors into the direction it wanted to go. The main rotors don't just supply the lift but also the directional force. This can only be aceived by tilting. The faster you want to go the more tilt you would need. I'm sure there are plenty of 'tech heads' in here who will give you the same blurb by using words like 'cyclic controls' and 'collective lift', but it all boils down to the same thing in the end - no tilt no move! Btw, that video clip was a bit scarry! Bet the pilot had a wet moment as he chopped his tube in half!

What sort of physics do you want for the heli's?

Hmm! So it is! So there ya go, BIS had even thought of that! So that just leaves this ejecting thing. But hang on what is the real problem with this? In real life, if the moment took you, I can't see what could stop someone from abandoning the controls, reaching for an emergency shoot and bailing out the doors! Certainly could be usefull if the chopper had caught fire! Just be sure not to deploy your shoot untill clear of the rotors! I think I'm quite happy for BIS to leave chopper realism as it is for ARMA! Â

What sort of physics do you want for the heli's?

I think the current level of realism vs useability in OFP's choppers is very good. Removing the automatic raise and lower over terain -leaving that down to the player would be better, as would removing the eject when pissed off with flying would be too! I enjoy flying choppers in OFP and the fact that I can do it with my trackball mouse and keyboard makes it much more user friendly even if not totally realistic. Bear in mind that doing anything on a PC is often harder than in real life due to your lack of peripheral vision and many other cues such as rolling sensations, swinging sensations and vibrations etc. When the day comes that we all have total all round vision pc monitors with full force feedback pitch and roll chairs and proper simulator controls, that will be the day to go for full simulation! FFUR - Huge Release !!

Regarding the aimpoint's Benus, I think you'r close to cracking it with that photo. Just one question though: On which weapons are these scopes gonna be mounted? I don't remember using any up 'till now in OFP. So pressumably it's for the 2005 pack only? Â
