    FFUR - Huge Release !!

The SAS are the most highly trained special forces in the world, with many successful endeavours behind them. I'm just glad that TB has implemented them. Nice work TB on those soldiers cammo etc. and I think U made right decision with BIS heads. Also thanks for changing the editor! Old farts like me can now see the text! Â

    New moves and animation.

Entirely possible?! Of course it is! It's probably also entirely possible to fire an AT weapon whilst lying on your back or hanging upside down from a tree! Â The point of this thread is about new animatioms for ArmA. I'm not a military expert and was never in the army so I am not in a possition to brief anyone about correct useage of AT weapons. I have used rifles for game hunting so know only about shooting with guns. Going prone with a gun is uncomportable enough as your head is forced to adopt an unatural held back possition in order to view through the scope. Apart from pressing down on your gear and loosing things from your pockets! For me the best possition for accurate shooting with a gun is standing upright resting elbows against a wall or a vehicle. Failing that I find kneeling down with my left knee on something soft whilst resting my right elbow onto my right knee with the leather strap pulled hard around my left elbow to steady the gun as much as possible. For me the only advantage of going prone would be to conceal myself as much as possible from the quarry or in the case of war the enemy, and in which case to minimise your profile against enemy bullets. Disadvantages of going prone in my case are being very uncomfortable, lossing things from pockets, getting wet from damp ground and getting covered in crawly things that bite you! Disadvantage of going prone in the military would be all of the above plus takes longer to get up from a prone possition and run for cover than it does from a crouched or standing possition, bearing in mind that once U have fired your weapon (especially in the case of a rocket launcher) every body and his mom knows exactly where U are!! New moves and animation.

OFP & ArmA are about realism and thats what most people like about this genre of shooter. Being able to launch an RPG from prone in real life would be idiotic! - Unless U want fried feet for dinner! Â In the same way using one standing upright would make for an inacurate shot with something that is already very awkward to keep steady! Â But I agree with Heatseeker that more veriety of movement is needed for ArmA than those limited ones in OFP. Typical human behaviour like soldiers gestating with hands when talking, scratching heads, puting hand to mouth and coughing, scratching back, tying boot laces ete. etc. ! Â Â If U've played games like Far Cry or Ghost Recon U'll see some of these anims in action! Â

    Info for a Noob

Just need to correct U here that GR was/is not a corridor shooter as U suggest. Although its maps are tiny compared to OFP it was/is a tactical shooter in the same way as OFP. Apart from OFP it's the only game I keep coming back to mainly because it still looks and sounds brilliant even though its about the same age as OFP! Â Graphics apart though it cannot touch the simply vast landscapes and player interaction with vehicles and weapons and combat realism that OFP can. And like has already been said ArmA will just take this forward even further and with new graphics put even GR out of favour! Â

    FFUR - Huge Release !!

Yeh, the first screeny isn't too bad although he looks like he's got a stiff neck or something! But the other two - well the one with a beard is needing a face enlargement I think - if U look at the goggles on his helmet and then imagine him wearing them! As for the third - either he's suffering from a serious lack of sleep or has been in another pub brawl, or I'm mixing this thread up with the one about zombies in ArmA! Â But hey I Know it's probably only WIP and adjustments will be required. What I liked about the BIS faces is the veriety that there was. I've not seen that much of Llumas work but those three screenies could all be the same bloke on different days of the year! Â

PC Gamer UK (Jan 2006) - Armed Assault Article

ArmA will do two things: - First it will discover OFP to a whole new group of players who never played the original game and still don't know how trully open and immersive games can be. Those guys think BF2 is as much as you can do on a current PC, and they are going to be amazed when they try ArmA. - And second, it will polish our dear OFP and extend its life until OFP2 (the real one by BIS) is ready. "Join in progress" alone could make this game huge online, and if on top of that it supports TrackIR, we are going to experience new levels of game immersion. That's enough reasons for me Yep! ....And it will help lots of people completely fail uni! Â Â

    Character Ragdoll and more

I've played Ghost Recon a lot and yea ...lots of cool human sounds there that adds lots of imersion. Coughing, groaning and lots of body animations -always moving (not rigid like in OFP! Â But hey ..farting! Not heard that one! Â Â

    FFUR - Huge Release !!

...Yea! ..Me too, a really cool chopper, having tried it puely out of curiosity! Â Anyways, as Mr Canadian Terror sais...we shall leave it at that! Â I'm sure that the Puma could be equiped with rockets in much the same way? Â Regarding the dynamic lighting effects TB, personally my only gripe with it is the ground textures are too bright and shinny. As for the vehicles they look pretty cool to me! Â

    FFUR - Huge Release !!

Yea! The Lynx would have been a better option ...but I think TB took it out 'cos of some bitching about him not going down on his hands and knees and saying ..."please can we use it if I lick your boots clean sir?!" Â

    No Anti-Alias?

Can't speak for everyone but if I open up my NVIDIA display settings I can force Antialiasing or Anisotropic filtering on just about any game I have regardless of ingame options menus. Â Can't see why it should be any different for ArmA, except that BIS might want to make it configurable from within the game. In which case I would leave my video card Antialiasing and Anisotropic filtering settings to 'application controlled' and select Antialiasing or Anisotropic filtering in the game graphics option menu. -This of couse is the best way since not all games desire the same settings. Â

Will there be railways in ARMA?

Does anyone know if BIS is planning on implementing working railways in ARMA a bit like AEF Trains in OFP by the AEF-Kampagne. Â Â Or will they just be making support for such a mod more compatible with the new game engine? I rather liked that train addon in OFP by AEF, except that it never really works properly on most maps (usually gets stuck somewhere and AI is useless at using it! I think that properly working trains could add a lot to gameplay if it is properly done, and would make some missions much more challenging and interesting! Also it would be fun just to take a relaxing tour around a new island! Â

    Zombie Mod Support

Yep, thanks Mr D.murphy man I got my gravity gun today and had a quick play in the local military depot! Â Not a bad effort I must say! However, I still cannot pick up a tank and lob it into the deep blue sea! Â Also brings me back to what I was saying about the OFP physics engine, the fact that only certain items can be manipulated within the game demonstrates this. All other objects such as barrels and pallets could not be moved. So a zombie mod for ArmA would require a slightly different physics engine if it was to behave in anyway like HL2! Â Aha! - Zombies .....that reminds me.........

    FFUR - Huge Release !!

As I did not get an answer last two times - I ask again! Will U be removing the loud tick tick tick from the sachels in the new releases? I think most of us would prefere that they were silent, as the sound engine in OFP carries small sounds too far. Â Â

Will there be railways in ARMA?

Sure BIS needs to spend time on scripts, scripts are needeed as part of any function in the game! But scripts are useless without a function or a unit to implement them. Â To create the best modding environments for trains or anything else BIS needs to implement them into their original work so that they can be properly tested and debuged. Â The fact that AEF was able to make a reasonable job of a working railway in OFP shows that it would not be that much of a monster job for BIS to implement something much better in their all new game engine for ArmA. Â Onto which comes the numerous new mission and gameplay possibilities that would come from having such an established and heavily used form of transport used all over the world implemented into their new game. Why make the same old mission scenarios all over again when a simple addition to the transport network would create a whole shed load of new possibilities? Â If I were BIS I know what I would be doing! Â

    Track ir

Whoa, tell me that aint true.... surely its the image on the screen that moves, otherwise that would just completely freak me well if you want to be specific..... The little liquid crystals in my screen cause a change of colors, and that then moves the images on my screen, which is caused by my head movement. I think U guys R on something a little stronger than coke! Â Yea! If U move U're head then the image on the screen would move in response. So taking a sip of Vodka or 'coke' would turn your head on screen to the right or left respectively. However, U wouldn't be looking at the screen at that moment so it wouldn't matter! Â

This is a link to ofp.cz home page. No gravity gun can I find here! Only chainsaw, drill and nail gun all of which I already have in my garage!! Â Anyway, I shall checkout this zombie mod think soon and keep searching for a gravity gun! I've made a space in my garage already! Â Â Â

imitation from HL2 I think not. Yea! . I was refering to the gameplay element -not the enhanced physics environment and cool graphics engine  ! Hey! - Wouldn't that be great though if ArmA had a physics environment like HL2?!  - How long before some one come up with a gravity gun able to suck in tanks and blast them into the sea! Haha!! Â

Mmm! Sounds interesting! I like the idea of a punching script, not seen that before! Â Maybee BIS could include a punching script/anim in ArmA so we could have a street fighting mod -bit like GTA! If the zombies punch U, can U punch them back and do they moan and fold in two?! Or do U have to shoot them with guns?! Just shows how flexible the OFP game engine is! Â

Can someone explain what all this zombie stuff is? Is it a Half Life 2 imitation or something? In which case how do the zombies attack U, pressumably they don't use guns? Also do the zombies in OFP still have bandy legs?! Â Â

    ArmA Progress Updates

That sounds like a statement! Is there some background to it? Â Also I agree with D.murphy man - it's much more fun playing the underdogs in a conflict, where U need to be much more resourceful with equipment and tactics. Rather than part of some major army platoon that thinks it is Gods gift to women! Â My personal favourite missions are sneak in sneak out SAS type missions though - taking the enemy by surprise - taking out their precious hardware while they're having a crap and drinking beer whilst watching porno movies! Â Â - Â BOOM! - What the f*ck!! Â Â

Will there be railways in ARMA?

Too small? If OFP islands are big enough for the AEF train addon I'm sure that the new island in ARMA is gonna be much more suitable - what with streaming terain & a 200km square island? Plus I'm sure that BIS is well aware of the vast modding comunity around OFP and would like to keep all options open! Â I hope so anyhow! Â
