Of course you have kits! The kit is the weapons and ammunition that you are carrying, whether you select it before or after you start a mission it is still called a kit  . Thanks @cero for following through with my train of thought! It is exactly the point I was trying to make. Soldiers are normally weighed down with lots of heavy equipment (kit) and this for the most part would make swimming a non option without first ditching all the heavy stuff that would probably cause him to sink! Also in real life if you have to cross water with weapons they need to be kept dry (above water). Guns don't work very well when they are wet! This is done in real life be careful preparation of your packs and using them as floats with your weapons on top. This of course takes time to prepare and in the heat of a fight or quick getaway would be out of the question.  So I say ditch all your weapons, swim across and scrounge weapons again from the other side if you need them! - Alternative is drown as before! Â

That's already possible in OFP though  . So long as you keep your head above water you can already go wading in OFP just as in GR. I think the debate is more about what happens to your soldier when he goes out of his depth. However, rather than being able to just continue to walk under water and eventually being killed in an unrealistic (and out of sight) way, I think that he should be able to swim to a certain degree as a matter of survival. This could of course be made kit dependant and maybe he would be forced to shed all his weapons in order to swim for safety coming ashore unarmed (no weapons) and maybe slightly injured  . Just a thought! Â

OK got VLC to play the water video! The 360 wave effects are quite impressive for the first 20 metres or so then it goes flat into the distance! That’s a bit short-sighted IMO  . I think I prefer the original Far Cry PC version of the water, at least it has a better draw dist. Also Far Cry's water is too transparent in my view. (Even for tropical paradises)   Looks great though! Joint Opps water looked good enough for me, put a few wave effects in and it would be more in keeping with the environment of ArmA. Â
-
The picture looks fantastic. But can you upload an AVI version of the movie? My Quick time player won't play this one for some reason  . I love Far Cry's water but not seen waves on it like that before  . Failing AVI make it a Windows Media Player file, most of us should be able to play it then Â

Thanks for that trailer of Elite maxqubit . Â That's the first time I've seen the waves in Elite up close and I must say they don't look bad at all, and a huge improvement on the original OFP effects. Are there nice sound effects with those waves - like in real life? The laws of progress would state that things can only get better! Â

But what if this water is final version  Nah, you can see a better sea on one of the other pics. show me... http://games.tiscali.cz/previews/armedassault/img6.jpg Looks great imo, same for ground and sky textures, lighting and units. I think people would be more impressed if the pics were of better quality (high rez and antialiasing), overall i like what i see alot more than anything else out there . So, only thing which make this sea better than sea on other pics is light reflecting... and that's all. It's not enough ... Yep! I have to agree that is still a pretty shit sea for a modern shooter! Also where is the grass in this shot, how old is this shot? I'm pretty sure there must have been many improvements since this shot was taken! Looks more like OFP with a sea texture addon to me!  New ArmA screens with sea views pls! Â

PR = Public Relations Relating to forums PR = Post Restriction! Â

Yep! ....Those smoke effects take some beating! Nice work! Â

If the Geforce 7900 gtx is coming out in March it would make more economical sense to wait 'till July (ArmA release?) when it should've hopefully come down in price. Â I never pay release prices for anything, especially PC hardware that has a 'new' value of less than 6 months! Â Bill Gates's son U must be mate! Â

We enhanced the US Soldiers camo in order to make it more realistic than the previous one and more authentic to the real BDU. Right, but in my game I still have the green and black BDU. Â When you say enhanced, do you mean in the upcoming patch? I took the fact that it was in your example images and especially in a video done by a 3rd party to mean that it was implemented already, maybe I was mistaken. TB hasn't released it yet.......Hopefully soon! Â

now that's just silly. surely they can find an hour of spare time to collect the latest screen shots and put out a list of features. Better tel that to BIS then ....preferably in an 'open letter'! Â
-
I think I had one of those when I was a little boy! ....U sat in it and then pushed it along with your feet! ...Only I think the seat was a bit more in the centre than the one in your picture! Â Â
-
Yeah me too... Â Mmm. Placebo usually locks these sort of threads pretty quickly. There must be some logic in this new tolerant approach to these pointless topics. Maybee there is some significant news on the horizon or maybee he has had instructions from BIS to keep open these threads so that BIS can moniter the thoughts of the forum community! Â Hmm! ....Or maybee he's just lost his glasses! Â

That'll be for Game2 ....not ArmA! Â

That is exactly it, except that IR is not normaly visible to the human eye and therefore would not even appear as red. Â Â Current night vision goggles use the IR spectrum of light to give U an image of heat generated from people, machines etc. Green filters then enhance any available light from the normal spectrum. Thermal imaging alone just makes any warm surfaces visible in the normal spectrum by picking up the IR signal (heat). ....Usefull mabee for finding people hiding in the undergrowth! Â

......So I can just load up this new map in the editor and go out hunting for rabbits and wood pigeon! ...Hey, now that would be cool! Â Â
-
Ghost Recon still kicks ass! It's cheap to buy now and all the comunity mods will keep ya well busy and sharpen U up no end for ArmA! Â
-
Here we go again. Another pointless thread! Â Even Placebo has given up! Â Â Either it will happen or it wont. No amount of whinning is gonna change anything! Â My gues is BIS is so busy making ArmA that has no time for information. Either that or it has signed up to some publisher who is preparing the relevant promotional material prior to release. .......Let's just wait and see.....

Hello and welcome  ! Regarding the missing Man 5 ton truck in the edditor, I already mentioned it to TB a while ago and he replied that it would be added in the upcoming patches.  The problem is TB seems to have got himself pre-occupied with work lately and it's likely that these patches/re-worked versions of his packs could be a while in the making. Am I right TB?!  So patience will be required I think if U wish to experience ffur to its fullest! Â

I think it should work well but 1 thing next time when you want to upgrade your PC dont get celeron processor just an advise I had a 1.2 gig Celeron for a while and it coped very well with everything I threw at it including OFP! I ran it alongside a 2 gig pentium 4 with the same graphics card in each and the performance difference was not as great as U might think. Moral: Don't scoff at a Celeron, they are still good processors! Â
-
Do I detect frustration creeping back into these forums? Â Remember the saying: Good things come to all those that wait! Â I'm sure we will here something more from BIS fairly soon, I can feel it in my bones! - Either that or I've got rumatism again! Â Personally I would just like it to be released when it is properly ready, rather than full of bugs and half baked content. Â

Gotta feeling this is gonna be another one of those very short threads with a padlock on it! Â Â

The smoke effect looks good but those funnel clouds look more like tornados than smoke plumes! In reality the further away smoke gets from its source the more scattered and irregular it becomes this is especially so if it is windy. Smoke will go up fairly straight on a calm day, but in a wind it won't look anything like that second screeny of yours! If U want to make smoke look realistic on a windy day U need to make it scatter much more. Of course I know U are limited to the abilities of OFP and that U'r trying to limit scripting effects. But tbh I think both smoke funnels are too narrow and especially the second one trying to bend in the wind! Also U should grade the density of the smoke out much sooner as it rises and disperses so U don't get that sudden 'cuttoff' to nothing! Â Just my two cents TB, otherwise looking good. Â
-
Thats gonna be noisy! U need water cooling for that beast! Â

I would like to see most of the single player campaign missions available to play in co-op multiplayer. A bit like all the Rainbow Six and Redstorm Entertainment titles. Â Â OK I know OFP plays differently to these games, but I'm sure that many if not most of those single player missions could be easily converted to co-op. Since I'm lucky enough to have a wife who also enjoys FPS games, we often link up PCs and go co-op on shooting games! Yea, I know there were some 'out of the box' co-op missions with OFP and there were a host later from the community and there was always the editor! However, it was too few 'out of the box', too much sorting out of trash and extra addons from the community and spending hours making missions in the editor is fine for a while until U realise it's taking up all of your time perfecting them and no time left to play them! Â So yea, more co-op missions 'out of the box' with Arma' please!
