Small displays? I would guess that the view that you see would be quite large as Metal Heart says. With this in mind 800x600 doesn't appeal to me at all, 3D or no 3D! My solution works well for me: Track ir with an F550 Fresnel lens from 3D Lens.com. Checkout this thread if you haven’t already! Until there is a better solution I’ll be sticking with this set-up, and the 3D effect is effective enough for me!

Can you not see that TB has a dilema? TB cannot release the patch yet because he will have nothing left to do while waiting for ArmA! Â Loves you TB Â Â ... Even though I curse you sometimes! Â Â

name somebody who can tell us more about the storyline other then the lead mission designer . My opinion stands, though it's not absolute evidence, I am convinced. Ok! I'll compromise! Lets take the last 6 posts and do a deal! I say Victor is making up the story to fit the storyline, but Placebo is translating it into the blog! We know Placebo has good English but I'm not sure about Victor and in any case he has a team to run! Placebo after all is their PR manager and would probably do a more convincing US soldier than Victor Doh! All this speculation, I think I need a drink!! Â

... That's interesting! However, attaching William Porters blog link to Victors picture doesn't really say much! This is all very cryptic! Why was the blog not made more obvious anyway? I guess that the beans will be spilled at some point thought! Â

I got mine last month! It's quite a small device (I think the CD is bigger and weighs more! but your gonna like it for what it does. I've been using it in FS2004 and once you’ve got it set-up the way you want it and got the feel of it you'll find that it makes a huge difference in your ability to look around and are much more aware of your surroundings in a much more natural way. I'd say that this device will rock in ArmA, where being tactically aware of your surroundings is gonna come much more naturally than toggling keys etc. Hmm, along with my Fresnel lens this is gonna immerse me deep into that virtual world that we are all waiting for! Sorry to hear that! Would you care to elaborate, or shall we wait for the autopsy? Â Judging by the number of posts that you've made since January; I would say that an overdose of spamming might be the cause! Â

    gaming witha FRESNEL LENS..

rg7621 with my current set-up using the 550 I am usually sitting about 23" from the lens and the lens ia another 11" from the monitor. Although these distances don't have to be precise and they seem to be different every time I measure them! That's what I like about this lens unlike the 330 where I would need to be no more than 10" or so from it to see the entire monitor area. I could move the lens closer this will generally reduce the magnification though. I could also sit much closer this makes no difference - just brings everything nearer! nubbin77 those specs sound about right for a 600. If that’s what it is then you should be able to sit well over 30" away from the lens and still see most of your screen. If it becomes like looking at a wheel with the only clear view in the centre as you move back it could be that you have the 326 by mistake! I just tried my 330 again this evening (swapped it over in the frame that I made) and found myself putting the 550 back fairly soon after! I just can't get on with the 330 it just strains my eyes and cramps my style! Are there no markings on the lens? With mine the focal numbers are etched into the corners. Dwarden I've not tried the lens on a wide screen, which is a bit lazy of me since my wife’s comp, has a 19" wide screen! But I can't see why there should be a problem. The lenses are shaped for a conventional PC monitor so is ideal for them. With a wide screen you might have to put the lens closer or sit closer to the lens to get the full width of the screen in view or just move your head as necessary! Also with the VX-2 being: 350 x 270 mm and the F550 being 400 x 320mm there will be more of a limitation as to how far back you can sit from the VX-2 and still see the entire screen. A larger lens is definitely better than a smaller lens. Taking up less desktop space is a poor excuse for making a lens smaller! I'll keep my eye on these VX anti reflection lenses, but until they make them bigger I think I'll stick to the F550 from 3DLens.com! Â

    gaming witha FRESNEL LENS..

Thanks nubbin77 for the 'heads up' on that site! I've not come across them before. It seems that they are getting stuck into this fresnel lens idea, guess it must be catching! I was interested in their so called 'anti reflection' lenses and also their VR Cabinet, that would save a lot of sticky tape and foam board for many! The lens that they are using in their VR cabinet though is presumably the same one that you have just bought (w/o the cabinet) and is anti reflection. However, it has a focal length of: 326mm, which is a bit shorter than the F330 from 3DLens.com Like I said in my last post I found that the F330 to be a bit too restrictive in the way it has to be used i.e. you need to sit quite close to it to see everything properly. I did read somewhere on their site though that they will be producing a longer focus lens i think 600 or so which would be much easier to use a bit like the F550 from 3DLens.com that I am using at the moment. I will keep an eye on this company, as they are obviously new to this game! I would say a 600 or 550 anti reflection lens with an easy to assemble VR cabinet would kick ass! Also I find that the longer focus lenses are user-friendlier for other applications such as Word or surfing the net, so no need to keep removing them! Â

    gaming witha FRESNEL LENS..

Ok, got the other lenses to try out. For those who are still interested I'll share my findings so as to save people from making the wrong choices. There are three lenses available from 3D Lens.com for this purpose the F220, F330 and F550. The numbers refer to the focal length of the lenses thus the lower the number the higher the magnification. The lenses are just under 20" from corner to corner so are good for any monitor up to 19". Larger monitors can be accommodated but you will need to move around to see the entire screen at once unless you sit quite close to the lens. To be honest I wouldn't bother with the F220, it is just too powerful for this purpose and causes too much distortion around the edges. Best to use this one for frying ants in the garden! The F330 is a good choice for serious gamers who like to sit with their nose right up to the screen. The depth of view that this lens gives is quite deep, but if like me you like to relax and sit further back from the screen you will find that this lens causes too much distortion away from the centre and it is like looking through a giant polo mint with the only clear view in the middle! I find that the F550 lens to be the best choice for those that would like to experiment with this. It is a much more user-friendly lens allowing you to sit quite far back from it if you wish yet still giving you a full view of the screen area with very little blurring around the edges. The depth of view is still good but you don't have to strain yourself by sitting right up to the lens in order to see the entire screen area! I’m using a F550 lens at this moment, and I can assure any sceptics that this simple idea really does immerse you into any game! Well worth trying out, and if nothing else definitely the most cost effective way to give yourself a massive monitor! Â

    Marketing for Armed Assault

Hey! And we're not all teenagers and twenties! .. Check my profile young man!! I think everyone should have their age stamped on their avatars! Â Back on topic ... I think that assuming that BIS is incompetent at marketing is definitely immature though! BIS is a developer and they have already assigned their marketing to IDEA. IDEA will negotiate a publisher for BIS on their terms and this is what can take time. When a publisher has been engaged and a proper deal struck this is when the game will be marketed! Â This thread will serve nothing more than to kill some more time for the community while we are waiting! Â

    ArmA Progress Updates

Yep! The digital delivery system is fine for an ideal world! But unfortunately it is true that many places around the world have a far from perfect connection network. I should be voting for DD as I have 8 meg broadband and it takes no time at all for me to download a game. But how many of you are so lucky? The problem is that we need to play fair as much as possible whilst moving forward with new implementations. I'm all for DD so long as we can all still have a hard copy also. Like many others here I love my hard copies and paper manuals. I also like to know that I have my game stored seperately away from my hard drives. I've lost count of the number of times I've had computers reformatted for one reason or another. Â

    Best of First-Person Tactical/Wargaming

I've only had time to glance through the article so far, but it looks very interesting and well presented. I've found that each game that I've played has had its different pros and cons. If only it was possible to take only the good aspects of each game and put them into one (ArmA?) it would by cool! Â

Nice post shinRaider! You missed something though: 9. Tunnel vision : Most people who are whining in these forums have this age-old problem of only seeing what they want to see and only hearing what they want to hear. The ability to take in the broader picture does not come easy for some, and having to believe that this video is old or that screenie is WIP cannot be comprehended. Understanding that ArmA is a above all a game for entertainment of a cross section of war sim fanatics and not just for dedicated realism perfectionists also deludes many! ArmA is a game that has to fulfil many different peoples expectations of entertainment vs reality. ArmA has to be challenging but above all needs to be fun! It's a war game! Ask anyone whose ever fought in a war if it was fun! So it is a balance between reality and entertainment! Total reality cannot be achieved in a PC game ......see the bigger picture! Â

About the US military in ArmA

One Sherman on its own was crappy! It had thin armour and only a small gun compared to most other WW11 tanks at the time. Where it succeeded was in numbers and its speed. It was quite fast and they were assembled in vast numbers. It was I think the US initiation of mass-producing crappy vehicles! .... If one breaks down hop in another, we've got a lorry load of 'em back at base! ... I just hope they give this tank a miss for ArmA! ... lol Â

What do you *HOPE* will be in ArmA modding?

... Re-create ancient history in ArmA! Hey that would be cool, only it would need to be done authentically which would require lots of research. If history lessons are to be told in ArmA lets make it as accurate as possible! Â A Robin Hood mod would be fun! Â

    Community: LOOK AT YOURSELVES!

Are you telling me that the hardcore gamers will leave BIS now because of this? I don't think so! The hardcore die hard gammers that love OFP for it's unforgiveness will simply play ArmA the way they want to play it, either through disciplin or through its modability. Â Bis on the other hand will benefit from the extra appeal as will all gammers that enjoy playing games that are more forgiving! What was the title of this thread..........? Â
