Shadow, what program do I need to edit .xml files? I'm gonna try those 'high' texture settings if I can! Â

For someone like me yes! Because you see I am a perfectionist and if I see that the suns reflection is coming off of that lovely sea just slightly out of line then I will jump up and down in frustration just as the enemy shoots me in the head! Â

Yeah! I don't see a problem with the shadows, as this effect is due to 'perspective' from the observer’s point of view. Things will always appear to radiate in a converging fashion from your point of view to form a triangle with the top of the triangle being at infinity. The sun in this case represents infinity and therefore all shadows will point to it just like in that screen shot. Stand in the middle of a straight road or a runway (careful about doing this IRL! and note that the sides of the road/runway do not appear parallel but form a triangle merging at a distance (infinity).  I do agree that the reflection on the water is a bit off though, this should appear directly under the sun as was mentioned previously. Hmm! One abbreviation will hopefully explain this: WIP! Â

An interesting read there deanosbeano! I think I'll hang off from buying a Phis x card for the moment, and wait for much more enticement in the way of new games with amazing physics that may require it! Â As for ArmA I don't think it's gonna be much use anyway! Unless some modders come up with some amazing damage models in new buildings etc thats gonna drain your average CPU! Â

LODs! Don't forget we don't know what graphic settings are being used in those screens! Â What made Far Cry special for me was not the crappy plot or the deadly but comical AI and the silly monsters, but that immersive and beautiful environment! Â

So Ageia works w/o the card but just has more features with it? I would like to know how much more it would improve the program with the card as opposed to w/o it. Since the cards are currently still quite expensive this becomes an interesting question! Â

Yeah! I hope they do a much better nighttime rendering than in OFP! With the new lighting system hopefully this will be possible. Guess we'll have to wait'n see! As for the water it looks fine to me ... And the sky don't forget is dynamic in ArmA as in OFP and unlike the static photo realistic skies used in most other games! Â

    Improved AI?

I didn't say it was perfect! I didn't say it was the best! But it is a lot of fun, and yes I only play with the latest (DS,IT) upgrades, originally it was not so good granted! The AI is what you make it! Analise things too much and it is all crap! Anyway, sorry to hear that you did not like GR! Â

    Improved AI?

Yeah! The old GR still kicks ass like no other in terms of perceived enemy AI. The difference is that in GR they act mostly as individuals rather than a trained squad! This makes for a lot of fun as one by one they approach an ambush like bees to a honey pot ignoring the pile of dead comrades in front of them! I think if their human like behaviour was combined with more squad input and cooperation they would be totally deadly!   What I don't like about the old GR AI is their ability to shoot you dead in an instant before they even manage to raise their weapon and aim at you though!   In GRAW the enemy AI seem to be a bit slower and less deadly accurate in an instant, although I haven’t tried all the different settings yet! I'm looking forward to the AI in ArmA being much more scaleable but hopefully with some more human like characteristics as in GR with some of those built in sound scripts like "AMERICANSEE!" or "GRENADA!"  Hearing the enemy shouting and acting like any shit scared human being in the face of deadly force just makes the whole playing experience that much more fun! It could just be the phase of the moon is having the weakest effect on the sea hence it is a neap tide! A spring tide is where the moon has the greatest effect on the sea! Go here if you want to learn more on tides! Â This kinda spills the beans on this being an inlet rather than a proper lake though! Also has anyone noticed that something smashed one of the reflectors after the truck passed! On the far right is the flattened reflector! What is that on the far left Berghoff? Â Anyhow, nice pictures especially of the lake/inlet, and a relief to see the blog updated at long last! I wonder when Will returns from leave though? Â Â

Putting hands in the air or waving a white hankie to surrender would be more realistic if the odds are stacked against you! We then have a POW scenario in the game! Â joebloggs allowsurrender 1 Â Â

Interesting set-up there Ben! What's the blue screen on the top? Does that hinge down or something? I can't quite work out how the lens is fixed but it looks very professional!

    ArmA Progress Updates

I suppose it depends whether you've got square eyes or not! Â As for me I like my FSAA! I've just been playing GRAW and they haven't even included this yet, although there is mention of including it with a new patch this month! Without FSAA even on higher resolutions, I find those moving pixels and jagged lines bloody anoying! Â Â ... And on top of that it hurts my eyes after a long time playing!

Have you got a source for that info? First I've heard of it in all the interviews etc that I've read. Maybee he means from the gunners positions! Â

    gaming witha FRESNEL LENS..

Just rigged up a simple frame for my wife’s wide screen monitor (as she's been going on at me!. It's a simple freestanding frame that I made up in no time at all. Two lengths of 1.2mtr long 10x2mm aluminium flat section rods from a hardware store (B&Q), 6x 3mm nut & bolt (tiny! and one cordless drill with a 3mm HSS bit. Oh, and a F550 lens of course. Using a pair of pliers and a tape measure to measure and mark the bends, I simply bent the rods into the shape in the picture below. I then measured and drilled three holes in each rod to support the lens at each end (top, middle and bottom). Placing the lens edge onto the rods then drilled corresponding holes into the lens. Attached the lens to the rods using three 3mm nut & bolt at each end! The lenses are quite strong so they don't need to be supported all the way around. However, one word of caution when drilling these lenses as they are quit brittle and I did manage to break off a bit at one corner whilst drilling close to the edge. The trick is to use next to no pressure when you are drilling and just let the drill cut through in its own time. Simple but effective! Â

I guess that the way it works is a bit like Balschoiw suggests that the 3D effect in some way compensates for the lower resolution. Also the fact that you are not seeing the precise same picture with each eye would probably have the effect of blurring out the larger pixels. The question is though does this 3D compensatory effect give you a satisfactory higher resolution on this perceived ultra large image enough to satisfy people like myself who always like to play at resolutions of 1280 or higher? I think that someone is gonna have to be our guinea pig tester and go and buy one so that they can give us some feedback on these displays in a brand new thread! Â However, the fact that these 3D head visor displays are not taking off like hot cakes prompts a certain suspicion from me! Track Ir on the other hand is making big sales and more and more game developers are making their games compatible with them! Â Â What is the future of virtual reality displays? .... I guess we will all just have to wait and see! Â Go buy one of these displays andersson and let us all know what they are like! Â .... Oh, and most of all if they are worth that price tag! Â

That 0.59" screen is to be viewed very close to the head (one for each eye). So it is not the size of the screen that matters in this case but rather the perceived size of the image that you actually see, which I guess would have to be pretty big in order to fully immerse you into the game. I've not actually viewed one, but for their claim of effectively putting you 'inside' the game to be effective it would have to be like viewing a 30" monitor 20" from the face at the very least! Â

I think you shot yourself in the foot there Ti0n3r! However, I suppose rumours could come from a reliable source! I say that there have been several illnesses at camp and William has had to cover for many of the few remaining US forces on the island! Â Â Edit: Oh, yea! We'll take yours aswell Ti0n3r!
