    ArmA Progress Updates

BH! It's taken over an hour for me to catch up with all the Latest 'progress updates'! Â I'm very very impressed with everything I see! Well done BIS! The video was nicely done but too fast and difficult to follow. The need to replay many times means it would be better if the video was slower and longer and at normal speed, but a brilliant presentation all the same and a perfect 'teaser'! The latest screenshots show fantastic attention to detail from the abundant vegetation to rust stains on the lighthouse to dirt and damage on APC's and the realistic faces of soldiers! The smoke is looking awesome too! This is gonna be one really fun game to play! I take my hat off to you BIS! ....Keep up the good work! Â

I hope you don't ever fly like that IRL Dslyecxi! Â If you've ever blacked out for real you'll know what I mean! Nice video though and shows perfectly how TIR functions. I'm disappointed in you though... because you're wearing earphones and have a hat as well? You see if you are wearing earphones you can simply clip that reflector peace on to the top of the earphone headpiece, and instead of looking really cool like you were in that video you can look like an oversized Praying Mantis trying to track the flight of a very nervous housefly! Â If I ever get my 3D glasses working Ill show ya all a picture of just how cool it is to have TIR, 3D stereo glasses and headphones whilst sat in front a Fresnel lens hanging in front of your monitor by a telescopic pole whilst sitting in a semi darkened room! ArmA Progress Updates

No global publisher? - That could work in our favour long term. BIS now has more time to finish development. Personally I'd rather that BIS continue working on the game and get it to a really high standard rather than rushing it out unrefined on account of a publishers wishes! BIS is doing a great job and you'll all be happier with it in the end. I don't know about some of you guys, but I've got plenty of things in life to keep me busy! My worry is that I won't be able to find the time to give it if it comes out this side of Xmas! Â

Now Placebo, just because you're a big soccer fan I don't want you turning this game into 'Pro Evolution Soccer Assault' OK! Â Â Â

Are those electricity pylons I see in the background? Â Now that's a fun new detail! I wonder if you get zapped if you fly into them! Â

    3D Stereo glasses ...

Are those the Version 4 drivers? Did you get a CD with Version 5 on it? What is the response time of your TFT monitor (ie. 16ms/12ms/8ms)? You have a good system spec, but it sounds like your TFT monitor is a bit on the slow side. I waited before I bought mine; as I wanted a gaming quality monitor with a good refresh rate, high resolution and contrast/lighting ratio and most of all a low response time. They are definitely up to par now and at an affordable price too, but if your TFT is more than a year old then you probably need to think about an upgrade if your gonna use it for serious gaming. I recommend Acer or Samsung and go for 8ms or less. I'm still waiting for my replacement glasses and also for some word about which drivers I should be using for my fast TFT monitor, alas though this company is painfully slow with support. Seems they prefer to ignore the difficult sods like myself and just respond to those who say things like: "Hi, can you tell me which way round I should look through the glasses?!" Â There's an old saying which I modified for eDimensional support: If things are fine support will shine... But if things are blown your on your own! Â One way or another I'll get there eventually! Meanwhile in finding my Fresnel lens very reliable, and playing games with a virtual 40" monitor is probably more impressive anyhow. I just want to see how these things will work with a Fresnel lens set-up. Â

    3D Stereo glasses ...

Seems you're not having much luck either! Could you give us your system specs (graphics card, monitor type and OS) also what drivers are you using (CD version 5/website version 4/nvidia 3D stereo). With this information I can cross-reference our problems regarding the software issues and hopefully have some possible solutions. Â Do you get 3D at all? I sent mine back today so hopefully soon I will have a new pair to play with!

    Wildlife & Civilians

So the animals in VBS1 have inbuilt movement scripts but can also be directed by waypoints? Do the movement scripts have adjustable/editable configs? Hmmm, maybe if BIS does not include many creatures it will be possible to import/mod those from VBS1! I would love to see a Jurassic Park mod for ArmA! The JP mod for OFP never really worked that well due to all the limitations of the engine, but was brilliantly scary to play! A JP mod for ArmA could kick some serious butt if animals are better supported! Â

    lockdown on modding

Yea, the words 'slippery slope' was mentioned in another context! Â The thread initially was about how addons and mods could be better controlled/regulated to help with MP etc. I don't really see why we need to discuss the limitations of 56k over broadband. According to some people here society should leave all wheelchair users out to dry! Wheelchair users are a minority and they just slow down progress of transportation and public building access and design! So no more ramps please just steps and normal doors everywhere so the rest of us can move forwards quicker without them! Â

    Wildlife & Civilians

How are the wildlife placed onto a map in VBS1? Are they 'self functioning' or do they need waypoints like civilians etc in order to move around and 'do things'? If the wildlife is 'self functioning' then this is definitely gonna give a huge fun factor into the game! Especially so if each animal was able to have it's own AI parameters. For example if you put several sheep into a pen they would behave normally grazing away like they do! But if you then put a dog into the same pen the dog would go crazy trying to catch the sheep while the sheep would be panicking and trying to escape! .... Now that’s what I would call realism!  Also do the animals in VBS1 have credible AI, or are they limited to a set of predefined animations and responses regardless of events around them? Â

    lockdown on modding

No offence either Ukraineboy but which planet are you from? There are a large number of locations around the world that cannot get anything other than 56k, and even more locations restricted to wireless only at about 14k or less! Then there are those who just can't plain afford fast Internet through circumstances not necessarily of their own control. Get out of your little box and use your ADSL or whatever it is you have and do some real learning about the rest of the world before making any more senseless and selfish posts! Â

    lockdown on modding

LOL .... GAU-8 ...you accidentally hit the wrong button, but look what you started! Â To be honest though I agree with most of the replies here and I too definitely don't want to see any modding restrictions whatsoever. Let the community decide what it wants and I'm sure that the improved quality of ArmA is going to force addon makers raise standards anyhow. What works for one game doesn't necessarily work for another. Also in a game like OFP/ArmA their are two main types of players: Those that are serious gamers who like things to be exact and as accurate as possible and then there are the casual gamers like myself who spend hours downloading and playing with all the latest sometimes crappy but funny addons and playing around with them in the editor! Oh the joy I had checking OFPinfo every night to see what was the latest toy that I could download for OFP ... just so that I could play around with it in the editor! Â Definitely NO to any kind of addon restrictions ... that would be suicidal, but YES to any new ways to easily categorise the quality and accuracy of addons so that we can have better knowledge of what we are installing and any issues that might arise from them. Â

    William Porter's Blog

It was discussed ages ago, but I don't think that those are sheep and sheep have never been mentioned in any interviews/announcements. However there are birds and butterflies and dragon flies I think, so there is a good platform for the modding community to start a farm with! Â

    3D Stereo glasses ...

Thanks for the links! The threads are quite old though I noticed and four years is a long time in PC land! The main problem I got though is that this thing does NOT work full stop! .... Not in any game or test screen. If you read my posts above you will see how I'm sitting! I have registered with this forum and I will post some 'Help Me' threads and see what happens! So thanks again for the links. Meanwhile eDimensional continue to be illusive with there assistance. I cannot think what they can possibly gain from this other than a bad name. Seems as long as 90% of their customers are happy they couldn't give two sh*ts about the rest! Â EDIT: They've now asked me to send the glasses back so that they can test them! No advice about their 'game screwing' software though. Â

I won't be buying anything else from eDimensional until they've had the decency to sort out my 3D Glasses! I like to deal with companies that have good customer support and so far this is NOT my experience with them. If you are unlucky enough to have bought a device from them that does not function then you will know what I mean!  I’ll be keeping a log of my progress with them over here! Â

    3D Stereo glasses ...

Well don't expect too much in the way of support! Â Â ... See this pic from their website ... Â .... I think that this one is more like it : Â Â And I quote: "Sales and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. eDimensional, Inc. is dedicated to providing our customers with the most comprehensive and efficient support in all aspects of our business. Our trained representatives will respond to all requests promptly." Â ....LMAO! It will be a week tomorow since my first support request! So far all I hear is silence! Â Two more were sent 1st on Saturday and 2nd on Monday .... I might as well have shouted in the street! Â

    release over steam

Hmmm.... In an ideal world where everyone has broadband and a credit card account! These situations may apply to you and me, but what about the rest of the world? Also have they fixed LAN play yet? I want to play coop with my wife; I'd rather not have to buy the game twice ... not that BIS wouldn't deserve it! And no I'm not a technophobe! Online delivery is OK for me, but I want to see it in a box as well, if not only for those less fortunate than us with our high-speed Internet connections and little plastic cards! Â
