But you can install many different types of keyboard/game controllers/mice to a PC to suit your needs/preferences! With a console you’re stuck with what you have! Â

    SINGLE PLAYER OR MULTI ?

Which multiplayer mode are you referring to adversary or coop? I vote for both because I enjoy playing coop games with my wife, but I guess this is useless to you as a clan member! Â Sometimes I have a bash at online adversary games if I can find some half decent squad members who actually behave like they are in a team! But I'm looking forward more to the coop side though if the new AI is as good as promised! Â

Hmmm, this whole debate isn't far off my gripe about too much fantasy and magic in historical games that I made in this thread recently. There is certainly an interesting parallel here where game developers appear to be spending too much time on dumb fancy stuff and not enough time on more mature and more realistic content. OK this is about clever tactical more immersive gamming vs. jump straight in and have a quick blast of over-hyped destructive pleasure! It all boils down to the same thing in the end though maxqubit and that is market forces! I’m just glad that we have developers like BIS who are more concerned with their ambitious realistic content rather than a quick money-spinner aimed at the ever growing school kids market! I must admit that I am not into console gaming I find a PC much more interactive and easier to play around with, esp.  things such as mission editors etc. But that is just a personal thing. I see no reason why such games as ArmA should not be ported to console if there is sufficient demand to make it a proposition for developers. As with my gripe about too much myth & magic in historical games I think only time will tell. How about emailing various developers/publishers with your concerns? If the demand isn’t known about nothing will ever change!  Edit: spelling of maxqubit!

Yea! I'm surprised that Atari didn't pick this one up! Maybe cause they will publish "enemy in sight". 'Enemy in sight' is nowhere in sight! ArmA is about ready for release! Â

Having waves appear on the lee side of an island moving away from it is perfectly reasonable as long as the island isn't that large and there is, as Red Kite said, a stretch of calm water on the sheltered side before the waves on opposite sides of the island join again. Â The video looks strange because they haven't made the waves consistently bend as they strike shallow water and slow down although in some places that is seen. Â That is an effect it is quite unreasonable to expect when it really has nothing to do with gameplay. In saying that, it would be a great display of their knowledge of physics along with the tide, star and satellite motion. Don't want PCs to run slow due to some bendy waves though eh? Yea! Modelling precisely how ocean waves are affected by shallow water and islands/obstacles could be quite complex! Probably lots of extra scripts and as you say, possibly consuming too much CPU! Although it would add a touch of extra realism especially for certain types of island capture missions where bad weather would dictate your point of attack etc.! Oh, and what about sailing mods? Â Â ... Or surfing mods! I bet some of ya Aussies are already thinking of an ArmA surfing cup! Â

Yea, I noticed that too! IRL if waves are travelling as they do in one direction then as they pass an island the water on the leeward side of the island would have no waves and would be essentially calm for some way out until the waves had a chance to build again! The problem is that I don't know how BIS would model this effect. It would certainly add a lot more to their wave effects code in relation to land masses etc. It would be nice if it was perfect, but so far it is looking amazing in every other way! Â

    The Iraq thread 4

Like I said earlier ... a hornet’s nest was opened on the removal of Saddam! These people are truly grateful to the coalition for ousting Saddam as they can now rampage the streets freely with their guns and launchers! Yet another falls illusion & bollocksed up attempt at creating a civilised culture by invading a primitive power hungry bunch of warmongers! ... Dream on Bush you will never in a million years create a civilised nation out of this lot! IMO Saddam had the only policy that worked here .... like it or not it's a fact! Get the fuck out and leave them sort out their own destiny!

    ArmA Progress Updates

It beats crumpling like paper or leaving them indestructible, I don't see the problem. I would rather have indestructible buildings than seeing the models swap. i remember the structures falling appart in comanche, i dont think they swaped but dont say the model swap in DF looked pretty good, it was plain horrible. Lets put the cheap stuff aside, the building colapse trailer looks better than that, just needs some parts/walls left and to be slower and its almost perfect, tbh i dont really expect every building in a large town to be destructible. Even addons that deletevehicle and are replaced with damaged models are too noticeable, never liked it.. And theres too much taking on this, i'll be happy to have solid walls and better colision . Na!! ... Just think of the fun you will have levelling a city! Â

What do you mean by 'we'? 'We' as in the US or 'we' as in the US and it's allies?

    The Iraq thread 4

There’s a lot of heavy typing going on here! I don’t know whether I want to get into the US justice system, but Iraq is a different story! There isn’t a leader in the world that does not do things in order to protect a ‘way of life’. Whether this is to do with fear of being attacked by an aggressor or fear of having an oil crisis due to another countries policies & instabilities or fear of loosing share prices in a certain commodity. I’m not sure why it was that Bush had to go into Iraq and whether it was really just ‘bad’ information gathering about WMD’s or whether this was just a screen for other things. I guess we shall never know. There was also this ‘shattering of pride’ after 911 and this made Bush very itchy for revenge we all know that (naturally). If someone punches you in a crowd do you just find the first person you don’t like and punch him back? …. Morally no, but then again this may just have been his golden opportunity to sort out his No1 enemy of the time Saddam! IMO the best peace for Iraq would be to bring back a fierce dictator! All the current insurgents were piss scarred of Saddam and his evil army, whereas an alien western army has them laughing down their mortar tubes! These people were already deeply divided culturally and religiously and had little respect for each other then as now. All that the US and its allies did by ousting Saddam was open up a hornet’s nest! What is the answer then since no one can turn back time? Well Bushes army is hardly seen as popular and any other army in Iraq is just seen as Bushes supporters. If we keep the status quo there will be many more killings and bloodshed not just in Iraq but also around the world. Personally I don’t think it is worth it. If the people of Iraq are madder at the foreign army presence than of their own indifferences and general Muslim extremist opinion globally is that of an over aggressive US world wide policy then I say pull everyone out and let them get the fuck on with it! ….  It may be over simplistic, but sometimes life is like that! So long as the violence stays within the boundaries of Iraq then why get involved?  … Or is there some other reason that Bush needs to stay in Iraq?? Â

However you spell that fubared bling-fest that's about as deep and long lasting as a puddle in the desert. (I'll say three) Â Â Â Three clones! Wot's up with u lot? Reality vs. Myth, Fantasy & Legend.

Thanks for the link! It looks promising although the lead character appears like a very fit medieval James Bond! If this is the only 'fantasy' element of the game then I suppose it won't be too bad! Â I just hope that it doesn't go the same way as most other games of this genre and just get more and more 'fantastic' as the game progresses! I'll be keeping an eye on it though! Â

Reality vs. Myth, Fantasy & Legend.

I am currently playing Thief 3 Deadly Shadows and am quite enjoying its atmospheric medieval setting.  But like with so many RPG/FPS games of this genre I get annoyed at how developers always have to ruin the immersion by introducing Myth, Magic and most of all historical inaccuracies. OK this game was never meant to be a history lesson but in my view I think it is a shame! Just looking at the detail that has been put in to recreating those medieval cobbled streets, the clothes of civilians and guards, weapons etc. It feels very historical. Then they go and spoil it by having flickering electric streetlights alongside street torchlights and totally stupid things like medieval elevators operated by push buttons! …FFS! Wouldn’t it be a great way to learn history and understand how our ancestors lived if games like this would just stick to historical facts or at least think before sticking things like elevators & electric lights along side torch lights and candles in a period that we know was pre electric? Then we have to have the silly mythical monsters, magic spells and of course the fucking zombies!!  Brilliant! Lets bring on the Incredible Hulk while were at it! Oh and yes of course we need Werewolves and Vampires don’t we? I must admit I’m still enjoying the game but only because it has that ‘sneak em up’ atmosphere that I love in these kind of games. I played the IGI games and loved them too. But It would be nice to have a factual historical game of the same genre. The same thing happened with Far Cry too! And I read so many peoples complaints about this so I know I am not alone! In this case it was utterly ridiculous monsters, which totally killed the game for me and after such a brilliant first few (monster free) missions. If I ever buy Crysis it will be to see the graphical effects only! My main gripe though is with historical games. It seems just such a brilliant opportunity to replay history from a FPS point of view so why go and spoil it with silly historical inaccuracies and myth, magic & silly fucking monsters?  …The Un Dead! … Gimme a break!!  Any one else think like this, or am I just fantasy killing reality freak?  Â

Reality vs. Myth, Fantasy & Legend.

Yes you are right it would be historical fiction! I guess I'm just getting paranoid about this word as it usually gives developers an open door to throw in all and everything including elves, goblins and zombies! I'm glad that you see my general desire for more fact based games though, but yes artistic licence is needed to make it a game so that it can be fun as you rightly say and this is what I am hinting at. Flashpoint of course was such a game absolutely, and I was expecting someone to mention this much earlier .. ironic isn't it? Of course the only difference is that Flashpoint was recent history rather than more distant history! .... And true I won't be waiting on EA for any such initiation in realistic historical games! Â .... I liked the 'Australians In Vietnam trailer' BTW! Is this game available already? I've only heard a little bit about it so far. Looks a lot like Flashpoint in that trailer. What new content is there other than the setting etc.? Â
