    sounds from a camcorder isn't anything like real life, the mic on a $500 camcorder doesn't react anythink like the human ear. now if they were using some $5000 stereo condenser mic hooked up to some high quality pre-amps, then i might consider that the mic and therefore the sound was somewhat realistic. Not only is the source not that high quality, but in order for you to upload that video to somewhere to sahre it u have run it through some form of compression, Xvid, DivX, whatever. so the crappy camcorder mic, with its sub standard original sound, recorded at poor bitrate, and then compressed to UL to youtoube/whatever, isn't a good example, IMO it really annoys me when people do this, can u tell???

    i wouldnt really call that a beast for arma when u cant use all 4 cpu's on it. and what use is 4 cpu's on a single theaded game. you gonna need to lock arma to one cpu. you gonna have big lag probs if you run it on all 4 cpu's lol be awesome for distributed apps though seti folding@home etc etc

    big thanks to odie3 and everyone else that has put some input into this the server is running firedemon and i couldn't get anything to work after running the -server command line and installing a few DX9 DLL i finally got the server running in console mode which did make a few new folders and then i could edit the profile to get the required results. now i just got to work out out to get it back into firedemon running how i want it to work. although if -netlog isn't working, i might actually leave it running in console and manually copy across the log from console mode. BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT HELPED

    so u think that if i add to the arma.cfg, that should disable 3rd view in vet mode???
  6. if u go round altering weapons.pbo expect to get yourself kicked or banned from many servers somethings the community understands being modded, weapons isn't one of them, if i saw someone connect with a modded weapons.PBO, i'd think: "modded weapons, damn foolish cheater" #userlist, note down ID, add to ban list u may or may not be modding them for an advantage but i don't care, i'd rather have people with stock files on my server, unless i see them running a mod folder which i know contains a modded PBO.

    the user.cfg doesn't exist if u run a dedicated server, i don't know to many dedicated servers sitting in air conditioned rooms that run dx9 graphics cards, with dx9c installed, so u can't start the "game" to alter the vet and cadet modes. as a dedi server it just sits there and pumps info back and forth, not like hosting a game from your household PC which needs a GFX card to pump out all the info for u to see on the screen. i installed the game on our server, DL'd the dedi server beta and that was it. the game never even got booted up, the dedi server.exe runs and it accesses the various PBO's on the HD. so i can't enter the game and alter vet/cadet mode to turn off ghey 3rd person.

    have got the server exe running and all seems to be fine but i was just wondering, if the readme was right or not is it still called flashpoint.cfg? also even after i login as admin and choose veteran and a map i still get 3rd person view, is there something i missed? do i need to get the game running and alter the vet mode or can it be done in the server config and if it can how do i do it? will the line cadetMode=0 work for all missions if i just add that?

    Your ideal PC to play ARMA?

    i am using this: amd 4000+ watercooled asus a8n-sli deluxe 7800gtx 2 gig OCZ ram X-fi but i am getting this tomorrow core2duo e6600 asus p5b-wifi 2gig corsair ram 8800gtx raptor HD and will transfer my X-fi across expet to OC the cpu to at least 3.2Ghz and tinker with the 8800gtx clocks money well spent
  10. i am running a decent setup but i can't hear gunshots from a distance i'm not the only one, everyone in my squad that has the game has the same issue my rig- AMD4000+ watercooled asus A8N-sli deluxe 2 gig OCZ ram 7800gtx X-FI i've tried HW acc on/off and EAX on/off but still all i hear is the crack as bullets land near me, or more often than not i just drop down dead. any suggestions from anyone? other people in my squad are using various cards ranging from onboard AC97, creative live, audigy2, intel HD audio and we all have the same issues, so i'm thinking we can't be the oly ones and its not hardware

    it seems like SP missions are ok in all settings, just the MP audio is totally screwed. don't know if its something that some net code tweaks could fix. IDK, it's weird, sometimes i hear AI shoot other times i don't, some guns seem to be fine others don't make a sound (and no i don't mean the silenced ones). i can hear footsteps and breathing from across maps, and get pretty good direction with them. every vehicle is just a mass wall of sound coming from no discernable direction and deafening, and gunshots are like magic dust, sometimes they are there other times nothing. its a bit off putting, but rome wasn't built in a day, and i only joined OFP with 1.85 and GOTY so i guess it will get fixed eventually

    asus a8n-sli deluxe mobo amd 4000+ 2 gig ocz ram 7800GTX creative X-fi latest drivers now i've played for a few days, and i just can't get around the issue of the sound, i use a headset and mic and am usually on TS with squad mates when playing. none of us, thats like 5 in total, can hear anything other than tanks, and bullets hitting the ground. if there is a tank on the map i can hear it, not sure where it is cause the audio positioning is so poor, but i can hear it, LOUD, like its 10 foot from me. gunshots however are the complete opposite, nine times out of 10 i can't hear the gunshot, i hear cracks as bullets by not-so-crackshot players ht the ground around me, in OFP i'd hear where the shot came from spin round and drop whoever it was (or at least see them and return fire). i'm sorry to say that all aspects of the audio in ArmA need a serious overhaul, i have top notch gear and what this game is delivering is pathetic. and b4 anyone asks, yes i have gone through all the options, have had to settle on EAX and HW Acc, turned off cause it sounds better. not a good situation

    i concurr, my systems have no trouble with SF, but they don't half get warm amd 4000+ watercooled 2 gig OCZ pc4000 VX ram 7800gtx X-fi great game, but brings even a tidy system to its knees if u try and max out any settings time to spend a couple of grand

    err no matter what u overclock an opteron too it won't be no FX-60 as the FX-60 is dual core. opterons aren't my spec AMD 64 4000+ asus a8n-sli deluxe NF4 7800gtx 2 gig OCZ pc4400 VX 2x200GB sata II X-FI asetek watercooling
