playing coops you won't have a problem with pings, since its player vs ai, the ai aren't gonna moan about a lag kill, and if a player complains then he is TKing anyway. becomes more of an issue in the PvP environment, a guy with a ping of 15 against a guy with a ping of 400 will lose in a reaction moment (e.g. rounding a corner) or at best it will be a double kill.

if u feel safe DMZ it for the odd occasion you host a game, or go through the port forwarding routine. 2302 is standard game port, then u will need 2303 and 2305 if u need VOIP and obviously allow the same ports in WIN firewall or any other software u use for a FW on the machine hosting the game. then u might want to read up on setting up a server config, otherwise your server will show as "xxxx on xxxxx", which will be "your game name on your computer name"

just to add something to this, since everyone has talked about the cfg settings, i'm gonna ask a nice simple question is the server.exe locked to one core? or is the OS free to switch it from core to core? if its not locked i would suggest that is your first move, having a server exe floating around in OS thread dispatching hell will cause the problems you are having since everytime the exe is moved it will induce a small amount of CPU lag. try locking the EXE, either with FD or taskmanager, depending on what system u use, since the exe is not multi-threaded its best locked to one core, i would suggest CPU1 since u have a dual core, leaving the OS to whirl away on CPU0

w/e if people feel that is a fair price to pay for that hardware/service thats up to them, while u seem to think i was badmouthing him i see it as drawing attention to the fact that there are better levels of hardware available at reduced prices than those. when someone asks about my hosting service and it gets hijacked into someone else's hosting service i'm gonna compare the 2, its not personal, its business. from my experience the server app will run with as much resources as are available, especially on the bigger more complicated maps. was the same in OFP, ram usage it very dependant on server mods running and the type of map/number of units etc etc when u say u have spare CPU power available, how much are u talking about, dual/quad core CPU?, process locked to one core or left to float in OS threading hell? the various servers we run pretty much max out whatever core they are assigned to, especially with the EVO and other big COOP maps. Why not post this info on the SS forums so it can be dealt with??? if we don't know your having lag spikes on connection how can we fix it? i'll tweak your B/W settings, but it would be nice if we knew this first. Esco

that sounds like a keyboard driver issue to me exactly has someone has said, u hold down the key which is repeating x many times, and ten when u release the key is it completing x many move forward commands till the buffer is empty. this would explain the correlation between how long u hold it down and how long it keeps moving for. what KB's you guys with this error got?

so are u saying it should be good for ArmA, Dwarden? £180 is a little too much until i see some solid results, if someone tells me they have a decent rig and it makes an improvement in the resposiveness then i might well splash that £180. if the server don't tun what u want it to run take your business elsewhere i know a server provider that could be worth looking into........

why wait for 1.09 bis released a new server exe that has some kind of built in handling for illegal ID's quite what it is i don't know

can we have a new version that isn't allready pypassed??? adding global chat and recording those that pass/fail is all well and good, but when the system is allready bypassed it's kinda useless while it still worked it was good, just a pity that it couldn't have been kept quiet, not shouted about on their forums, baiting them into a coding war. just my opinion Esco

err, the M249 definately behaves differently when prone compared to standing. i'm more in to MP so altering these values is a big NO-NO for me, all kinds of server errors and complaints of cheating when i have 0 recoil and can put a 3 round burst right in someones head but i just thought i would comment, nice work though, if i ever get round to a full mod its nice to know what the values are and what to tweak

just to add to this ID# argument i have 2 legit versions imported from Czech to UK on day or release both installs have 5 digit ID's as a rule of thumb i stick to 10 digit ID's before the BANHAMMER falls

i've never seen anything that even resembles an IP switch in OFP or ArmA, just because some other games have this function doesn't mean they all have. i don't think u can do what u want with ArmA, ports is the only way to seperate the traffic, as has allready been stated, from my side all i will add is that i have multip[le servers running without hitch using the port switch. IP switch doesn't exist to the best of my knowledge

surely maxmem fixes this to ask someone to pull out dimms just seems idiotic

its been running on a full 64 man berserk for days now, using the rundll addons, so no server lag there. maybe its something specifically with the new EVO maps

it might not be the SCP, there is another method mentioned on the KFC forums, which has been known to crash servers, some console hack. KFC have suggested that this not be used as it causes server crashes, and that is not part of their creed, apparently

i'm sure the guys at MCY just love u voting in as admin and kicking people willy nilly. don't get me wrong i'm not against having an admin on a server but some guys just don't deserve it, i've seen voted in admins ruin the name of a good server by kicking th players that are regulars on that server just cause they don't like them. and saying the servers should lower the vote threshold works both ways, who's to say that someone of low moral values isn't gonna get admin?

5 digit ID's are also legal i imported 2 hard copies of DVD from czech rep into the UK on the day of release, both of these have 5 digit ID's so don't be making a script that only allows 8 digits please, lol

at the end of the day, its your money, you decide, if u post on forums like these you will get those that own 1 card or the other saying their card is great. my advice, spend as much as u can afford on your gfx card, expecially in a gaming rig, read the reviews yourself, there are hundreds of sites that review such things, and then once u feel u know what u want go buy it. getting advice on forums is all well and good, but it aint our money, its yours
