agree, whole-heartedly, on my servers i run a proper install version on the C drive which can be updated by myself and all the client loads of run off a seperate drive. self installing updates are a PITA when you run multiple instances from one box, updated files should be available as a zip and just be overwritten over the originals or even run as a mod folder until finalised which would allow end users to try the updates and roll them back if required without having to re-install the entire game.

the above post is correct however the vote threshold is not set as a % value in the server.cfg there are 2 lines that have any affect on voting voteThreshold=0.33; voteMissionPlayer=0.1; -threshold is the number of agreeing votes required to pass the vote (above example is 33%) i.e. 0.25 means that 1/4 of players must agree to pass the vote - 2 of 8 players must vote for xxxx to be admin before xxxx becomes the admin a vote threshold above 1.0(100%) essentially disables any players voting since you can never have more votes than players. -voteMissionplayer is the number of players that must be on the server before they can vote for a mission other than the one set in the mission rotation (if you have a mission rotation)

dude read the reply it is not possible to do a shutdown if your a voted admin. as a voted admin a #restart will only restart the current mission, it will not restart the server. voted admins have no power to ruin anything except the current game, and if the players voted for a f**ktard admin in the first place then they probably deserve everything that they get.

that sounds like what people would call a game hack. it is important to realise that there are 2 main methods of "hacking" within A2, memmory hacks and PBO hacks, this sounds like the latter and as such would be easily foiled by using verify signatures, this disallows any unsigned PBO's to be used by players. memmory hacks are undetectable by the game as it stands, however they have far less impact on an MP game.

non admins can vote all kinds of things all votes must be preceeded by #vote #vote kick + player session number #vote admin +player session number #vote missions #vote reassign and i can confirm that #exec ban works since i have had to ban some fu**tards on my servers recently, however it is also usefull to note down the reasons and ID's of people banned so you can edit the ban.txt and add notes on the list of numbers, so you know who is banned and why. if the server.cfg has a vote threshold above 1 then voting is disabled on the server and i don't think anything can be voted but i would have to test this to confirm

Can you enforce mods on a server?
RN Escobar replied to l mandrake's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
you used to be able to have equalmodrequired=1 or something along those lines in the server.cfg. this forces all players to have exactly the same mods loaded as the server i.e. if the server ran with -mod=@ace;@x-hair;@vopsound then all player would have to run those mods (and i think only those mods) to be able to connect. i think it even checks the files to make sure they match the server files so mods can't be altered, it was used in some leagues to equal a possibly unequal playing field -
i agree for those admins that can't be available 24/7 having chat recorded in the netlog would be a very usefull function. since afaik the netlog funstion is still to be added to the dediserver exe you should go post this in the wishlist and hopefully they will look at into it at some point in the future. since all chat on an MP server has to be sent to and from the server there should be a way to keep records of it all. it would probably bloat the netlog file by a serious amount, however if server admins want to use it, it should be available, imo

ANNOUNCE: PVP script pack released
RN Escobar replied to sbsmac's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : Community Made Utilities
nice to see this has been released again MAC, i might have to delve into the editor and knock up some CTF's OT - where the f**k is the SBS site? has the URL changed in the last week? -
since your class missions is empty the server has not been told what missions to load after a restart. as mojo said you will need to upload the missions into the mpmission folder, but without a mission in the rotation you will need to give the server some input as to which mission to load when you connect. login as admin (#login +admin pass) select a mission (#missions)

your fine to disagree, but most people won't get anything like 80 players on their servers, thus they will never need more than one core and therefore your point is moot and actually locking it one core WILL improve performance. the properties of the CF server are similar to the IC arma server in the way you run your missions and everything else and while i know your optimisations work on your server with the kinda loads you get that doesn't mean they will work on every server.

you need some bandwidth profiles into your arma2.cfg file [KH]Jman produced a good guide, find it here clicky then its a matter of tweaking the performance to suit the style of game you play, PvP COOP etc etc i would imagine in the near future BIS will pull their finger outta their ass and release a properly updated server executable with working netlog switches and bring back in the -maxmem switch. However the Maxmem switch was initially bought in to set an upper limit of RAM usage and not a bottom limit. despite the rumour mill working over time pre-release about servers needing dual core minimum and higher specs it appears that multi core is not nescessarily needed and the server exe is similar in its use of CPU/Ram to both arma1 and ofp. you need to lock the exe to one core (or two if you insist) removing the app from the control of the OS, if left in control of the OS it will shuffle the process round to various cores causing CPU lag on each move. those in te know have been using firedaemon to run the app as a service and have the ability to lock the affinity of the process/service and have the other extra functionality that comes with FD.

same story, get in touch with your hosts and ask them to use the regular game exe with the -server switch instead of the dediserver exe should take em 2 minutes to alter the startup line from: D:\servers\ArmA2\ArmA2Server.exe -port=2303 -server=server -config=server.cfg -cfg=arma2.cfg -netlog to D:\servers\ArmA2\arma2.exe -server -port=2303 -server=server -config=server.cfg -cfg=arma2.cfg -netlog obviously you need to alter the directory and hames of various files but the big difference is ArmA2Server.exe changes to arma2.exe -server

DST Capture the flag [ctf] map pack
RN Escobar replied to --DST-- Anth's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
LOL, taking away the G36 would be like removing the oxygen from the air, it just wouldn't work. @Anth - good work on releasing some CQB, i'll stick em up on my temp ADD server. -
wow, i' don't think i've seen such a retarded thread in a long time, the OP, complains about PvP maps not being PvP because they have some AI elements (CTI), a long standing member of the forums points out that CTI is still PvP since any AI are controlled by a human, he then also points out that CTF C&H are "pure" PvP and then he gets shot down because they are not the AAS maps. if you wanna rave about AAS thats great, i'm glad you found a playstyle you like, but to complain about people taking the thread off topic and they should get back on topic about AAS and how great it is? Edit i've never played these AAS maps but i would imagine they should fall into the C&H map style, are the map naming conventions of old not adhered too anymore?

Does turning your graphics down give you a multiplayer advantage?
RN Escobar replied to Incognito84's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
i won't argue with that -
i had asked Jman via PM on KH forums and was about to post the same reply. @Jman - Is there any performace hit in using the regular exe with the -server switch over the beta dedicated server exe? my thoughts are that in these early days it is more usefull to have the records of player names ID's IP's etc etc to start collecting information about players behaviour for use in banning, IP banning and generally keeping an eye on whats going on in the servers. however as i am trying to sell servers i also don't want a masive performance drop to hinder the interest of any prospective clients.

Does turning your graphics down give you a multiplayer advantage?
RN Escobar replied to Incognito84's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
i'm not convinced that the server scripting sets all your graphics options, certainly view distance and grass, but not AFAIK all the settings that are available under graphic options. if i have a 2GB graphics card and i have my vid memmory set to very high the server will not change it to very low, same with terrain detail and shadow detail and post processing. all these people making arguments about its not worth doing, your cheating yourself out of good graphics etc thats fine its your opinion, but don't shove it down peoples throats like its the only valid point of view. There are hundreds of people that play proper competitive PvP in leagues ladders and everything else, in these situations it is normal for a sweet spot to be found which gives you the most advantage you can find. This might be lower quality foliage meaning it is easier to see the models of the enemies through said foliage, increased shadow detail so shadows of players are easier to spot etc etc it is not just a case or turning it all down to low for the highest FPS but finding the setttings that work best for you -

Poll, old school CTI or warfare?
RN Escobar replied to cpl_hicks's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
nice to see CR is receiving some kudos or his work on crCTI but the original is still the best, Mike Melvin is a fucking god, his original work in OFP1 was groundbreaking and without it CR would have had nothing to tweak to make crCTI what it is. having played in CTI leagues i still prefer MF over CR, it always seemed to me that anyone could hop into an MFcti and just play, while the crCTI always felt like it had been designed for a specific gameplay style. Mike gets my vote and fingers crossed he reads this and offers us an updated version of MF for the 21st century and ArmA2 -
Too many servers = small populations
RN Escobar replied to kremator's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
i think you will find that due to the high specs required for a decent server performance you will find that an awfull lot of the lesser servers will soon drop out of circulation. people aren't gonna be running 4 servers from one box (if its a quad core CPU server) due the server exe needing 2 cores. the multiple instances that you used to find where a clan would have a public vanilla, public ACE, private practice server and a match server for example will be a thing of the past since that expensive quad core CPU can now only host 2 servers. the small clans that used to have a moderate spec server will no longer be able to afford a decent dual core or quad core core server meaning they will soon drop their servers due to tight finances at the moment. this argument that there are too many servers and not enough players will soon reverse IMO The experienced server hosts with lots of time put into both OFP/ArmA1 will grasp A2 quickly and have the hardware required to run the best servers, these will become private or fill quickly leaving the public player with little or no choice/chance to experience playing with either the better players or on the better servers. to the OP if you think there are too many servers TAKE YOURS DOWN. -
$3 a slot, what specs if you don't mind me asking? looking for some info for my UK server leasing pricing, although i'm prety confident i can undercut anyone out there even with my high spec servers.
