    New Creative X-fi Driver

We always hear of someone on MP with mic or sound drop issues say "It was working perfect yesterday".ie. when they restart the computer the settings get FUBAR'd. I usually tell them to open the Creative audio control panel, click the default button, then go to the Windows audio control panel and set your mic.Hopefully this resolves that and the other sound issues. For myself, I have no problems except for using a 3rd party app to record "What U hear". Now I don't have to. <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> Release date : 11 Mar 09 This download is a driver providing Microsoft® Windows Vista® and Windows® XP support for Creative Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Titanium series of audio devices. Q6600 8800 GTX 4GB Vista64 Here is the settings I have now: You should be able to do similar or better. The LOD swap doesn't really chug the game for me. More VD than what I have now and Corazol + Paraiso become sub 24fps.

    ArmA and CPU power

I'm with Yoma. I'm pretty much set on Q9650 (from my Q6600) because everything I work with pretty much will be multi-threaded. I just ordered EVGA 01G-P3-1285-AR Geforce GTX 285 from zipzoomfly. It was cheaper than the regular one by a couple bucks. Now I'm pondering when to buy the processor... EDIT: BTW in the press kit if you look at the RealVirtualityEngine-GC2008.pdf it does say "Multicore support". UPDATE: Gonna try and RMA the new 285 tomorrow. It glitches and if the game is really intense eventually BSD's. I BSD playing ArmA in MP. That sucked! I found out @75* the glitches start and the fan doesn't go faster when it should. It starts at 40% and when the card is hot its like 46%. :P Really retarded BIOS. It needs to ramp up faster, like I said before. Like 60% @75*. 285's shouldn't get that hot. With the fan forced to 100% its all good, doesn't go above 50*, but that doesn't mean I should pretend its ok. So RMA it is. BTW I tested doing back to back of the same level in the game Dirt. So for sure they need to look into the fan settings. ArmA gained @6fps average compared to the 8800 GTX. GTA4 still cound crank the settings but is noticeably better fps with higher settings. Dirt was ultra smooth w/ cranked settings. So it is a good card relatively speaking. BTW, EVGA has a really cool app to tweak the card. Actually its the best/easiest/nicest to use tool I've seen for tweaking, and I'm actually using right now on the ASUS 8800GTX and it works! lol. It shows the stock fan Idle is 60% on the 8800GTX. You can adjust everything you need to on the card and it shows a couple sensors. The really cool thing is it seems "lighter" than other apps I've used. IE. it loads quick and doesn't seem to bother anything. Anyways, I'll update again if you guys are interested in what happens when/if I get a replacement. UPDATE II: I got the new card today after RMA and so far it is better. Idle temp is @37* and max so far is 56* and that's with the fan only at 40%. So I guess the GPU on the one I returned was crap.

Mic not working w/ ingame voice

Sounds like you're saying your Creative jack took a dump so you are using the jack on the front right? So how is the jack connected? If it's connected to the Creative then you have to check through Creatives Volume icon settings in the bottom right. Double click the icon and then set everything to Default by clicking the Default button. Then click the Settings button and hunt for the external or front jack settings. If it's not connected through the Creative card then poop. Anyways go to the Windows Volume Icon in the bottom right. Right click and select Recording Devices. Check that the Front jack is Default. For some reason this used to switch sometimes, I think when I restart the computer. Also Creative totally cut out and I would have to do the Default deal to re-initialize it. But I don't have problems anymore and I totally don't remember what fixed it. Maybe a driver update? I dunno.

    Played with Vistas Performance Monitor

I think a Moderator should move this to General Discussion. I realized this is not a troubleshooting thread... This is the MOBO I have. The Q9650 is only $325 at Newegg, $327 at ZipZoomPoop. Yea the Extremes are a total waste of money lol. A grand!! Are they serious!? Here's a good question, has anyone played ArmA back-to-back upgrading from a Q6600 to a Q9650? So many bought a Q6600, I'm sure someone has. EDIT: Here's Red Alert 3 same method
  7. ArmAGraph_proc_ram_disk.gif I set ArmA's Affinity to CPU3 (fourth CPU) and monitored only that ones %Processor Time (in red). I also monitored Available MB (in blue) and Avg. Disk Bytes/Transfer (in green). When a mission is loaded and I'm in game look how the processor gets pinned at 100%. An even better test would be the msconfig-disable-startups then set all processes to not use cpu3 and set arma only on cpu3. I didn't have any other app running during the test above but you never know. To be clear I have very little problems w/ ArmA considering how long I play. Rarely does ArmA crash or slow down so I'm not too worried about the processor spikes. I just find it interesting how pinned it gets. I never really noticed it. I know my next purchase is going to be another Quad. I was leaning towards the Q9650. I work in MAX and Painter all the time so it would be a + +. What do you all think?
  8. Rexxenexx

    Played with Vistas Performance Monitor

Yea I noticed in MAX since you can have the Taskmanager with all the cores showing. It's pretty cool watching them all light up. ArmAII should be the same. Actually if you think about it that's only when rendering. This is equivalent to pinning the Processor when you're modeling.

I'm w/ HeAvY TrAnCe. Looking for a well admin'd server playing COOP. If you know of a server near California let me know.

Kind of disappointed with a 4870x2

Can you try one/two settings for me? Crank everything to max setting except view distance (set to whatever you like). And turn off AA and set Post Processing to lowest setting. What do you have (@FPS)? Now turn off Shadows. What do you have?

Finally a mission that works...sort of. The AI drives me crazy!  Anyways, Tell me if their are any bugs, improvements you'd like to see, etc... The mission is to rescue hostages and destroy any enemy resources in the area. It's small and straight forward so I hope you like it. SQF revive script

    Thanks norrin. It works! the lines now read: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> _NORRN_no_respawn_points = 1; //array no.12 _NORRN_Base_1 = "Mobile"; //array no.13 _NORRN_Base_2 = ""; //array no.14 _NORRN_Base_3 = ""; //array no.15 _NORRN_Base_4 = ""; //array no.16 _NORRN_time_b4_JIP_spawn_dialog = 10000; //array no.17 _NORRN_Base_1_respawn = 1; //array no.18 _NORRN_mobile_spawn = 1; //array no.51 _NORRN_mobile_base_start = "Base"; //array no.52 _NORRN_mobile_man = alpha_1; //array no.53 And I changed base_1 marker to mobile. Tested it on the dedicated server and locally hosting, everything works! Here it is TiedUp v1.21.
  16. Rexxenexx

    SQF revive script

    Norrin, Someone found a bug when playing Tied Up. I asked how to recreate it because I dunno whats the prob. and he said: I still couldn't recreate it until I decided to put it on my ded server and then presto. You put down a mobile spawn and the button doesn't show up when you die. Here is the original respawn points area in the revive_init: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> _NORRN_no_respawn_points = 1; //array no.12 _NORRN_Base_1 = "Mobile"; //array no.13 _NORRN_Base_2 = "start_spawn"; //array no.14 _NORRN_Base_3 = ""; //array no.15 _NORRN_Base_4 = ""; //array no.16 _NORRN_time_b4_JIP_spawn_dialog = 10000; //array no.17 _NORRN_Base_1_respawn = 1; //array no.18 _NORRN_mobile_spawn = 1; //array no.51 _NORRN_mobile_base_start = "Base"; //array no.52 _NORRN_mobile_man = alpha_1; Â //array no.53 I tried: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> _NORRN_no_respawn_points = 2; //array no.12 _NORRN_Base_1 = "Mobile"; //array no.13 _NORRN_Base_2 = "Base"; //array no.14 _NORRN_Base_3 = ""; //array no.15 _NORRN_Base_4 = ""; //array no.16 _NORRN_time_b4_JIP_spawn_dialog = 10000; //array no.17 _NORRN_Base_1_respawn = 1; //array no.18 _NORRN_mobile_spawn = 1; //array no.51 _NORRN_mobile_base_start = "Start"; //array no.52 _NORRN_mobile_man = alpha_1; Â //array no.53 (I changed the marker names in the editor accordingly) So when you die it shows the Start and Base buttons if no mobile is up, and Mobile and Base when a mobile is up. I actually liked the first one better because the Start and Base are in the same spot so it was redundant having that button. When you die and no mobile is up it just showed the Base button. So to sum up, if it's on a dedicated server their is a problem with the mobile respawn button not showing. It shows the Start and Base buttons instead of Mobile button. But if you Host the game it works perfect in both the first/original and in the second revive_init code samples above. What do you suggest to do?

    What is Battleye for?

I like the fact that BE is separate from ArmA. If I have a LAN party I don't need Sig or BE. I could punch the cheater in the face.
  21. Rexxenexx

    What is Battleye for?

Well supposedly it slows the connecting AKA: "connecting/disconnecting lag". Which is negligible, but a full game with only tk'er and bk'er risk and con/discon lag is better than createVehicle spam/frozen server from a script kiddie.
  22. Rexxenexx

    What is Battleye for?

Ain't that the truth. I've seen cartillary in BF2 plenty of times. If someone is dedicated enough anything is possible. But since I've been using BE and Sig checking servers (lastweek and this week) I have not seen anyone cheating. But the week before! With no BE or anything it was ridiculous. I won't go on a server w/o BE again.

Vista Ultimate X64 with loads of Ram

I agree with Vista64 as being the next step in OS's. It has a BOAT-LOAD of overhead but it's all worth it for "overall" performance and security. As a part-time computer consultant I highly recommend my customers stick with XP32 or 2000. All they mostly deal with is text or Photoshop/Illustrator, some MAX users I say get Vista64 if you can afford the new MAX. For us -gamers- I highly recommend moving to Vista64 and running a Linux server separately for a ded-server. At least give the OS a week or two to finish it's auto-search, nag about installations, learn your most used apps, and autodefrag enough to not hog resources before you bitch and moan of how slow it is. It's far from slow for me now. The way I figure it is if you think a power supply is a black cable that plugs in the back of a computer then stick with XP32, or better yet buy an Apple. If you can't afford a new computer and printer then stick with XP32. Nothing wrong with XP32 if you have no option to get Vista64, but don't buy Vista32 that's just a waste of your time and money. Also ignore the fact that it may have a bug with ArmA. Because ArmA is literally the only program on my Vista64 that has any sort of problem out of at least 30-40 games, apps, and utilities I use. And a problem in ArmA 1.14 is a rarity. This is all just my opinion.

    Arma server quad core

For sure it only uses one core on the Windows server.
  25. Rexxenexx

    What is Battleye for?

One major problem is that nobody can do policing except for the admin -if one is logged on- since "#userlist" doesn't show their ID# anymore. I highly recommend undoing that change in the next update or making an option in the server.cfg to display ID#s on the userlist.
