  1. All these whiners sound like they're 12-year-old kids that've seen a few movies and think they know everything about armies and such.

Weird they only ever care about the "cool stuff" like guns and all eh? Sort of like the wannabe "historians" that think they know all about WW2, can name every single tank and gun used, but haven't a clue what the 'Battle of the Bulge' is.

Hey, go and do some military service and then come back and see if your opinion hasn't changed. This simulation line was never about how cool the weapons look or how fancy the explosions are or even how spiffy the weapons work. Games like America's Army are for the more action oriented people who like shooting stuff, a lot.

This is for tactically-minded people who want to manage assetts in a combat environment to see how he or she can bring a certain mission to a specific close.

So sorry, your M16A4 won't look like the God-end-all of weaponry and your tank won't billow plumes of smoke as you race it around firing your main cannon at insurgents. Go play whatever other game out there for that. This game gives you rather crude representations of hardware out there used, but accurate enough to play out certain engagements on a tactical scale.

  2. Hi, for place units or objects at a desired height, use this command

in the INIT Box of the unit or object:

    Quote[/b] ]upos=getpos this; oldheight=upos select 2; newheight=oldheight + 2.5; this setpos [(upos select 0),(upos select 1),6];

that "6" is the height, 6 = 6m, it also accepts decimals. So you can

place an object at 2.03m if you want. Have fun finding the right

height of each room in that pimp building. Let's C ya

To make it even simpler, and avoid creating unnecessary global vars:

    <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">this setpos [getpos this select 0,getpos this select 1,(getpos this select 2) + 6]

Change 6 to whatever height you want.

    Or even more simple:

this setpos [getpos this select 0,getpos this select 1,+.6]

'.6' is any height you want, 0.6 off the ground in this example. xmas_o.gif

  3. The other Hellfire missile types require a radar lock to remain active until the target (or the missile, really) is destroyed.

    Don't you mean,

The other Hellfire missile types require a laser desginator lock to remain active until the target (or the missile, really) is destroyed

Holy poop. This forum software sucks and blows massively.

Yeah, basically. smile_o.gif Just trying to say it in OFP/ArmA terms.

  4. The "Longbow" Hellfire is fire-and-forget (as it is supplemented by the Longbow FCR radar, which downloads information onto the Apaches, even if the others are not carrying an FCR). The other Hellfire missile types require a radar lock to remain active until the target (or the missile, really) is destroyed.

  5. There have been reports of aircraft flying in formation with bombers and when the jet would fire an AG HARM missile, it would lock onto the air-to-air radar of the bomber turret and hence home in on that.

The odds are extremely small, however, but one must always take care with any type of missile. Make sure you have a proper lock-on and double check your target. IR missiles aren't as susceptible to this as Radar or TV-guided missiles are.

  6. Well, nowadays, my only contact with these weapons is during annual training for the Dutch airforce. So, there's a strict protocol and no screwing around. smile_o.gif

Obviously, when other teams are firing I'm about 50m away without my hearing protection but I reckon that's quite different then 50cm. smile_o.gif

    You can't be serious???

I'm 313 man! Where you at?

EDIT: Oh and Chammy, awesome mod man. Been with you now for six or seven months and this is the best thing ever. Can't really help with "real" gunfire sounds, though, mostly same reason as Ateryu. Damn you hearing protection! tounge2.gif

  7. Furthermore I still highly doubt a .50 will make someone's head explode like the gore kiddies want it to. Sure, in Hollywood, maybe, but in real life I think it'd just leave an entry hole and a big exit wound. It actually requires far more "punch" or force to rip someone's body apart. Our bodies are extremely strong and can withstand an amazing amount of punishment.

EDIT: About the .50 not being allowed to be used on humans, this is true. And I'm not joking when saying this, but it is an anti-material rifle and is thus qualified to be used on helmets, water bottles, uniforms, belt buckles etc. etc. It's not the sniper's fault if there's still a human in it.

In short, when shooting someone with a .50 just say you weren't aiming for him, you were trying to take his helmet out of action or to keep his water bottle from being used.

  8. I sometimes get the feeling all you people are emo or something. What the hell is up with the black goggles you guys seem to have on? If you honestly think those screens look remotely similar to what ArmA looks like now you're just GO RED ENGINE.

One guy shouts, "THIS LUKS SHT AWFOL LAWL!!11", and all you people need to parrot him?

The ONLY thing similar to ArmA in those screens are the d*mn vehicles and player models as they haven't had time yet to make NEW ONES. The same happened with ArmA. Look at some older ArmA screens. They all featured OFP units. The landscape and lighting effects on the vehicles just look awesome. Nothing like ArmA now.

You people really need to stop beating down every GO RED ENGINE thing BIS puts out.

Do you HONESTLY think that looks anything like the ArmA we have now?

Amazing how you guys seem to know every single little thing about this game two years before it's released as well. You seem to all have made up your minds the campaign is going to blow, the units won't be realistic, the animations will not have been fixed, there'll be no dynamic destruction and the sound quality is going to be aweful.

You know, I'd LOVE to see the official article from which you guys seemed to have pulled this cr*p, because you seem to have unlocked some parts of "tha intahnets" on your computer which I, in my blissful ignorance, have no access to.

PS. Yeah, give me a warning level or whatever for this, but I thought it had to be said.

EDIT: To Matt Rochelle's reply right underneath mine:

Dude... wait... you think THAT pic doesn't look like ArmA as we have it now?! How can you people whine about how the new screens look too much like the ArmA we already have, while the older ones look even more so. Sorry if I misunderstood your post, Matt, but sometimes this community just baffles the hell outta me.

  10. Did no-one notice that in the helicopter screens the terrain actually looks like its drawn differently than when you're infantry to allow for a massive draw distance like in flight sims...?

From what I've seen, this game is looking amazing. I have the odd feeling that whatever BIS would've shown, most people here still would've moaned.

  12. guys really you stare at a menu for a whole of three seconds the type of desire of music doesnt really matter all it needs to do is set the mood well its not like your going to have to sit there and listen to music you do not like for 10 minutes or anything after saying that indeed the so far original choices may not be the best or maybe they are id just like to add that small thought into the convo just remember guys there have been many times that music has been in movies that alone you did not like but you personally think was appropriate at the moment its the same here

Please use proper grammar as your post is just nearly impossible to figure out without getting a headache.

Anyway, most movies refrain from using heavy metal so your point is moot. Movies usually go for tunes that fall in good ears with anyone listening, so called "general" themes that you'll neither hate nor like. They're just there to set a mood. If movies would specifically be using heavy metal, it'd be a movie aimed at that age-group and "type" of people.

Don't add heavy metal to your mod just so you can show how much of a rebel you are. If you must, just add your musical preference to the credits or something. smile_o.gif

    And Uranium, shut up.

hey grammer isnt everyones strong suet, but i will try; btw i think i wrote that after 28 hours of having no sleep. Your point has been made, but as i said maybe the music isn't correct or maybe it is. Personally, i have not heard the specific songs mentioned, and most likely neither have you. I am a metal fan, but i also understand that not all metal is the same. Possibly metal could be used but only the softer side of it. Do i want to open arma to screamo? No i don't at all, but i realize that metal has a lot of variety and some good mood music could come out of it. all I'm saying is give it a chance maybe chammy could throw up a video of a menu with the music, and we could all see if it works well. In the end, its always chammy's choice and if he likes metal and wants it on his mod then so be it. I do understand that you are just requesting that he does not do so. Yet, this whole being a rebel stuff is crap. I like metal cause i like the way it sounds, not cause i want to do a kilo of cocaine and fight the man. I do not dress gothic, and believe in my government, some sections more than others wink_o.gif. Even in your worst case scenario that metal makes it on the menu all you have to do is quick get into a server or sp. I know that if we was talking about putting country on the menu id beg him not to also but if it did end up on there it wouldn't be that bad. Oh and was this any easier to read? If it isn't I'm sorry and i tried.

@Mod Franze i agree he deserved a wp, but for my own reference i saw no curse words in his text. If "pissed off"(sorry for using it if it is bad i just need to know and it was the only way i could ask) is a bad word, which normally i would assume it isn't, could you please post that it is or pm me with an exact list of curse words since i have myself used those words.

Yeah, your message was much easier to read now you used full stops and capitalization and didn't type everything as a single sentence. Makes it a lot easier to read over. smile_o.gif

I think just 'normal' music would be nice for the menu.

  14. 1) Bloating the install file with half a gig of some teenangsters shitty metal because it makes him feel like a rebel.

    2) Making me listen to some 8 year old driving around whose favorite song is "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor".

Although your post was just downright rude, I do strongly agree with those two points. I understand a lot of our younger community members are heavily into that whole 'metal' thing, but please think of us guys who like other music, too. I personally love the older rap styles, the '90s stuff, when it still meant something; rappers like Eazy E, 2Pac and Biggie. Now imagine how you'd feel if I made a nice mod which made it compulsory for you to listen to that. smile_o.gif

  15. @To the Chammy Sound Team: There's one thing i would like to add to my feedback that i think its not very natural.

The sound of the bullets that fly near our head doesnt make me feel that way, it sounds fake. It sounds like papper is flying near or something..

That sounds doesn't make me feel its bullets passing near.

I already heard that sound in real life and it does not sound like that.

In FDF (i think) they simulate it how it should sound. Its more like a "ffff" sound, But in other hand the rest of the chammy sounds are impressive and thats what make me use chammy sounds!

Please change the sounds of the flying bullets. When realism does matter! inlove.gif

Urr, no. Bullets flying by your head don't make a 'fff' sound... they go 'SNAP'!

  16. Why didint bis name Armed Assult Americans Army 2

I know its not Americans army but VBS1 & VBS2 is used by the guard and other services. it Wouldnt it hurt thares sales of vbs2 if it was named that then aussie would not by it?

or would the U.S. Army not like it? or bis not go for a soly us based name game. or would the army want to make it free for the public?

But dam wouda sold a hella alot more copys

    Americans army

    Developer: U.S. Army

    Publisher: U.S. Army

Oh well a little to late i guess Shoots self banghead.gif

Or maby hum Expanten pack name hehe

Because the world isn't: "Outside America, there be dragons", like most would believe, but there are actually hundreds of other countries out there and billions more people, who might also be interested in playing computer games.

  17. Now, now, let's all act like the mature people we are and accept that not everyone knows every single detail about every weapons ever produced. The fact that the CObra in OFP was the older 'Nam version with dual rotor blades doesn't help, either. It's not a death sin to overlook details.

And to answer the question: yes, the AH-1Z we have in ArmA does indeed have four rotor blades as the latest Marine attack helicopter. Among the reasons posted above, another is that this makes its parts even more interchangeable with the new Marine UH-1Y (they use about 85% common parts!wink_o.gif.

  18. Yeah, gotta love those moments when you quickly need 'Semi' for that lone soldier that ran out into the open 300 yards away; 'Burst', 'Handgrenade', 'Smokeshell White', 'Smokeshell Green', 'Smokeshell Red', 'Semi', then you acidentally (in your rush) tap it once too often, meaning you have to go through it all again - by which time that lone soldier is long gone, laughing like that annoying Duck Hunt dog.
