Hosting on Gamespy from behind firewall/NAT

GS uses the port above your gameserver so be sure to open it. E.g. server runs on 2234 (default). Open firewall port 2234 and 2235 to 192.168.1.2. Use Port Forwarding on 2234 and 2235 to 192.168.1.2 since you're using NAT. You say that the firewall isn't blocking anything but when I started a DS server with cfg file and had MasterIP= set to GS' server, GS started banging on my port 2235. I'm not sure about hosting servers thru GS tho, but try my suggestion first. -Rekrul

    Your coolest MP kill?

Well lag will ruin any game, but OFP sure demand its share of horsepower. Once you overcome it (and the 300 reinstalls), it's great fun. -Rekrul

Ever wanted to see the rocket of the Carl Gustav?

Thank God they use the same model. I don't want more lag because of a 1/10th sec blur on my screen now and then should be correct. I'd rather see BIS removed some bugs instead. -Rekrul

As I said, this is my puter at work so win 98 SE is out of the question. Furthermore, even if I got a sack of money I wouldn't run win98 on it. I prefer stability. (Not that w2k doesn't crash but it crash far less than 98). Furthermore a P3-500 should have no prob. running OFP, but this is just pointless. The point is that when I install some OFP components, it fucks up the puter. -Lurker
  5. Here's the story: Upgraded to the latest NVIDIA drivers, and played OFP (V1.30 Since I run a server I don't want to run 1.40 on it and watch it crash with the squad bug). There were some odd gfx irregularities. I installed Red Hammer. Same thing there. I then tried the new Asus drivers as I have a GeForce 2 GTS ASUS V7700 card. This was actually worse. I then uninstalled the drivers, got back into windows wich reported new hardware, etc. I clicked cancel and ran the 'old' 12.41 Nvidia drivers wich works perfectly. I'm not sure if I tried OFP after that. Anyways, when I tried to start it again the other day I got this message: (wich is copied from context.bin) ErrorMessage: Cannot create 3D device: Â Resolution 800x600, format X8R8G8B8/D16, refresh 0 Hz. Â Error D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE I tried running preferences but in the Resolution window, there were no options at all. Just blank. So I installed the 1.30 patch over OFP in hope that this would 'uninstall' Red Hammer in some way. Same errormsg. Fine, so I uninstall OFP and reinstalls for the n th time. Same problem still. I also tried changing flashpoint.cfg (got one from a friend) but same result. I know Avon suggests uninstalling and running SCANREG.EXE but I really don't want to reinstall AGAIN. Especially since it takes way too long. All the other games runs fine, dxdiag reports no errors. Anyone got any suggestions? Is the refreshrate stored in any files on HD so I can manually change it? -Rekrul Specs: Athlon 1.4Ghz, 512MB, Asus V7700 GF2 GTS with Nvidia 12.41 drivers, W2k SP2, OFP V1.30 no unofficial addons.

Ever wanted to see the rocket of the Carl Gustav?

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">I´ve fired some CG shots and I must say that the picture above is alittle wrong... When U fire a CG, there is a fireblast behind the shooter as it is a recoiless rifle (as stated before), not infront of the shooter (as in the picture). U cannot fire the CG in or from a closed environment (like a house or vehicle) because of this backblast. And IRL U dont want anyone behind U when U shoot. CG´s are always operated by 2-3 man teams (shooter, loader and sometimes spotter). The CG is quite a lumbersome weapon, weighing 13-14 kg and the ammunition 4-5 kg. And doesnt the shooter in the picture hold the weapon wrong? He has the weapon on the right shoulder but he fires with his left hand? Thats not how I remember it...I could be wrong tho..someone confirm?!?<span id='postcolor'> The AT is a rocket, however the rocket engine doesn't start before ~70m away from the gunner (so the fins get out and the rocket is stabilized) and I do belive thats approx the same distance for when it's armed, meaning if you hit a tank 50m away, it might just bounce of it unless the tank has reactive armour. Furthermore the speed of the rocket is initially 320m/s (out of the 'tube') and weighs 3.7kg if I remember correctly. The AT rocket is also black, not green. Furthermore, the gun is not held correctly by the model. His right hand should be on the trigger and it is standard to lay prone when firing it, unless it's illumi shells wich operates with a 20 or 25 degree where you would fire it standing up. There's no SOP for standing on your knee firing it as it would be too unstable (Illumi grenades don't demand _that high an accuracy). You would use your left hand on a front grip that is not included in the OFP model. This front grip is on a slightly diff. angle than the gungrip and is adjustable but not in an easy operation. (You'd have to loosen a couple of screws, change it, then tighten them again). The sights (wich is also wrong in OFP) has two scales. One for AT, one for HE/Smoke (Illumi has it's own add-on sight based on degrees) and is crosshair with diff marks along both horizontal and vertical axis for compensating for speed, angle, etc of the tank. This is because of the weight diff. and because the HE shell (wich do not have a rocket engine) is supposed to ideally hit approx 10-15 m above the target for maximum damage. This is set by a range scale on the granades tip. It will also detonate on impact but will have less spread and killing zone. Smoke only detonates on impact. A funny episode was when a friend of mine fired an AT rocket at a tank but with the HE scale and not the AT scale. The AT rocket flew in a perfect curve 10m above the tank and would've been a perfect bullseye had it been a HE rocket not an AT rocket. I was on the CG for two years in the Norwegian Army although the last year was more rifleman than AT man. We operated with a 3 man crew, one gunner, one loader (2 shells), one spotter (aka slave) with 4 shells. Thats ~16kg extra for the spotter. This was just to correct you on the RL CG, not a demand to BIS. -Rekrul

Well I ended up with reinstalling W2k here. Now on the office puter where I run the server, (wich I just have reinstalled w2k on btw) I upgraded to 1.40 since DS 1.41 is out. I tried running OFP client wich worked earlier, and guess what? SAME FRIKKIN ERRORMSG! ARGH! Now I get refresh 75hz insted tho, but still! I can't run client on it. Specs: P3-500, 640MB RAM, GF2 MMX 100/200, W2k SP2. Also, when I first started the server I got the "No entry resource.bin::RscInGameUI::RscHint::Background.size" errormsg, so I had to reinstall OFP again. I'm getting pretty tired of these problems. They should call it Operation Reinstall insted. -Rekrul

    Your coolest MP kill?

We were a bunch of friends playing a selfmade CTF mission and one guy from the other team was driving a jeep with MG. His gunner had previously died and I was sitting in a bush with my RPG when he came driving straight for me. I hit him (the driver) in the face from 10m or so with the rocket wich didn't explode (possibly lag tho), his bloody body just fell off and the jeep rolled slowly past me, totally unharmed. (Yes I got in the jeep and drove off). I guess this is an 'oldie' but it's new for me so those who want to brag their warstories, go ahead. -Rekrul

I _think I had 8.1 previously. Anyways I used the DirectX buster and removed it then installed 8.0 from the CD. This gave me some errors with registry in DXDIAG so I ran DirectX 8.1 (8.0a) from MS' site, but the errors were still there. I retrived the backups from DirectX Buster and the errors were gone as well as D3D. I then re-installed 8.1 but D3D is still gone. I tried uninstalling the card again and running the new Detonator drivers, but that didn't help either... I have no idea why DX all of a sudden don't realise why my card doesn't support D3D... -Rekrul

Man I give up. Preferences in 1.00 shows the resolutions, but when I try to start OPF, I get 'Cannot create 3D device' wich I guess is because in 1.30 you had more advanced errormsg, telling you what is wrong. I've tried doing this: http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/trouble/3ddevice.htm except DirectX buster, and I've tried this: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....topic=8 When I first ran Preferences, I checked flashpoint.cfg afterwards and there was no Refresh line there so I tried setting it to both "0", "60" and "75". Then I uninstalled the card and checked that the drivers were gone and installed the 12.41 drivers again (checked the settings there too). Just a reminder, 12.41 has always worked for me. Now I just discovered that WWIIOL wich also runs D3D doesn't start so I guess the problem lies in D3D and not OFP. The hunt goes on.... -Rekrul

Guess I have to. Problem is that we've reworked the entire network and I'm setting up an AMD XP machine to run it on soon, and I'll have a packetsniffer on that one as well, but I'm too busy at work these days to spend even more time on this. Besides I have to get my client back up and working again wich takes its time too due to annoying long OFP reinstalls. -Rekrul

I reinstalled OFP again (deleted folder and saved a copy of the users folder) and in 1.00 the resolutions were back, but when I ran the 1.20 and 1.30 official patches (not Red Hammer) they disappeared again. *sigh* I also tried reinstalling the drivers (12.41). </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"> It looks like OFP is trying to use 16-bit z-buffer (see D16 field). You can try to switch to 16-bit render depth, or try to fix the problem by reinstalling drivers / DirectX. GeForce2 does not support 16-b z buffer with 32-b frame buffer and drivers are normally aware of this.<span id='postcolor'> Well the wierd thing here is that I ran both the desktop and game in 32-bit earlier and suddenly I weren't allowed any more. I tried to set the desktop back to 16-bit but that didn't help either. Also, another wierd thing here is that I played Red Hammer the first time I installed it... In the flashpoint.cfg file there wasn't even a line called Refresh="<value>";. When I set it to "75" (or "60" for that matter), OFP still says the same errormsg - 0hz. If I run Preferences and exit it disappears again. Also, the cfg file says Adapter="0"; - is this correct? I tried setting it to 1 but that didn't help. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">If you are using 12.xx drivers, you can also try turning on "Adjust Z-buffer depth to match render buffer depth". <span id='postcolor'> This was enabled by default. I also tried turning it off and on again and I also tried to enable 'Enable alternate depth buffering technique'. Thanks for your effort guys. I guess when I'm 70 I'll still remember by OFP CD-Key. I've made some progress tho, it isn't Red Hammer but 1.30 or 1.20 patch. Now to find out what files were changed... -Rekrul

    Detonator xp 23.11

I tried the 23.11 on GF2 GTS and it was stable and all, but it had gfx irregularitties, like on the middle of the runway in the airport it was a huge (well 5-7m) 'ramp' going about 45 degrees out of the ground with the runway texture on it. On the other side there is no ramp but a big yellow square insted. I also had several yellow triangles and grey beams going from the ground up to the sky around, so I just reinstalled the old 12.41 drivers where I have no bad framrate running 1024x768x32 and it works like a charm. I'm running w2k tho. -Rekrul

As I said dxdiag reports no error and I did uninstall the old drivers before installing new ones. Anyhow I found the root of the problem wich is Red Hammer. I uninstalled OFP again, moved the user folder, deleted OFP folder, reinstalled moved back user folder and it worked fine. When I installed Red Hammer, the resolutions disappeared again. I'm not quite sure why this happends tho, but it might be because it is a copy. I'll check today and see wich files are modified. (and before you lecture me on the issue, I finally got a legal version of OFP 5-6 weeks ago (waited for 6-8 weeks) for $50 and didn't get the Gold Version and I've been waiting 2 weeks for Red Hammer now. Almost impossible to get OFP here in Oslo. Seriously tho, the number of reinstalls required is almost making me regret buying it in the first place... I sure am hating the install wav now) -Rekrul
