We were a bunch of friends playing a selfmade CTF mission and one guy from the other team was driving a jeep with MG. His gunner had previously died and I was sitting in a bush with my RPG when he came driving straight for me. I hit him (the driver) in the face from 10m or so with the rocket wich didn't explode (possibly lag tho), his bloody body just fell off and the jeep rolled slowly past me, totally unharmed. (Yes I got in the jeep and drove off). I guess this is an 'oldie' but it's new for me so those who want to brag their warstories, go ahead. -Rekrul

What router you got BK? -Rekrul

Suma said they are working on a netcode not using DirectPlay tho, but it will take (a long) time. If they finish it, it will most likely be easy to convert to *nix versions. -Rekrul

What Windows crash message? What does dxdiag tell you? -Rekrul

Uhm, well OFP runs on IP and use UDP packets so unless you get some program to wrap the IP packets in an IPX header (wich will cause some latency) you're boned AFAICS. On the other hand I don't know didley about IPX. -Rekrul

Are you connected to Internet by modem or networkcard? If networkcard, what kinda connection you got? Are you running PPPoE or PPPoA? Try pinging a 1500 packet with DF=1 to the server (ping -l 1500 -f xx.xx.xx.xx) and see if the MTU is too big. Work your way downwards till it gets thru if it is. -Rekrul
-
Hmm, that's weird. I didn't know OFP sent packets with DF=1... Anyways, looks as you have enter regedit and set the MTU back to its original size. -Rekrul

Enter the router and configure Port Forwarding. Point port 2234 to your server's LAN IP and get you're friends to connect to your WAN IP. The other machines on your LAN most connect under LAN in OFP. What router you got? -Rekrul

As it says, "Reinstall game from original CD disc and try again."

Again search Avon's FAQ. Run DxDiag, seems as the problem is related to your gfx card. Also, did you remember to run preferences first? -Rekrul
-
Run DxDiag and do the 3D tests.

Traditionally you don't have to do anything to connect to a server as all the inbound ports are the same as the outbound. What kinda router you got? -Rekrul

Excellent Suma. In light of this, I'd like to suggest that you stop bugfixing MP in the current OFP version, put all resources on making an OFP Online game and make this an add-on for OFP and, for those who don't have OFP, a stand-alone version. Those who want to play single player can play the current OFP version, those who wants a better online version than the current OFP can buy the Online add-on/stand alone version. Sell the add-on for Å20 and the standalone for Å35. Dedicated servers should be avail in both Window and Linux versions and free to DL. -Rekrul's two cents

The xDSL technology has nothing to do with packetloss tho. As in, ADSL doesn't have more PL than SDSL.

Run Preferences first. Also check out Avon's great FAQ; http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/ -Rekrul

Seems as tho the problem is your NIC. Try putting on a continous ping (ping -t xx.xx.xx.xx) to your brother and to a reliable Internet-server (like yahoo.com or something) and see what happends when you get 'No message recieved for 10 secs'. -Rekrul

Btw Avon, that sample is really REALLY annoying. Especially when you're at work. =P -Rekrul

They have already fixed (atleast) one of the bugs causing this in 1.42 and have been able to reproduce it in 1.42 and a fix will prolly come in the next version. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....;t=4838 -Rekrul

Well it would be alot more traffic as the servers has to update each others. It would also be very hard synchronize them, not to mention the code required for this... But certainly cool. The coolest thing would be if each server maintained their island, so you had one team on one island and another team on the other. So to fight they had to take a boat or chopper over. -Rekrul

Do we really want something more to slow down the server?

I manage to sneak up to the building without the alarm going off but I they spot me so I have to kill those guarding the house, I pop in and get the papers but then I'm in serious trouble. I've got a bunch of ppl around me as well as BMP and I can't for the love of God get out of there alive. I hardly get more than 10m away from the building. I keep shooting officers as they are usually the ones spotting me, I tried blowing up the building (wich has a funny bug btw. If you place a satchel anywhere on the first floor, it will stick to the roof) I've tried shooting ppl from the balcony, I've tried legging it, I've tried shooting myself out but after 30-40 tries I have a tendancy to get very frustrated and an urge to smash the monitor. Any hints out there? The black-ops are getting kinda boring now because you have to crawl several klicks now to not get spotted... -Rekrul

AFAIK Linksys doesn't have any firewalls, but if you're sure you have a firewall you must use portforwarding like explained over and open the firewall on the same ports. -Rekrul

HOW ABOUT A BAN SECTION ON THESE FOROUMS
rekrul replied to Frag Haus Capt Morgan's topic in MULTIPLAYER
Also, what's with you and caps in topic? =P -
I have a similar problem. If I start OFP, the OFP logo pops up on the Desktop. If I now activate another window, e.g. an IRC client, OFP will start up in the background. If I now click the OFP 'window' in the taskbar (to enter the OFP game) or alt-tab into it, the puter will insta-reboot. I've also tried diff. drivers for my GF2 card. Anyone else able to reproduce this? -Rekrul
