    Netcode

You're stretching the analoge-definition a bit far with this. As you already pointed out, the D in ADSL is for digital. Fair enough that you need an AFE (analog front end) either infront of, or integrated in the DSP (DSL-chip) for the physical layer, but this convertion has virtually no impact for performance. ADSL use advanced digital signal processing and algorithms to be able to send more data thru than with digital signaling. While ISDN might have digital signalling, it use over 1Mhz for a 64+64+16kbit/s link and is obviously not realistic for high-speed connections. (However I must admit I'm not familar with the ISDN PSD mask or its frequency use). How you can say that ADSL is more limited than ISDN is something I don't understand. PS! Sorry for thread-hijack. To drive this back on topic, I certainly hope BIS learned their lesson and does not use DirectPlay as their netcode this time.

Uhm, so you're saying that you can only have phone+DSL if you have ISDN? Are you also saying that ADSL is analoge?

    ArmA Windows Server

Obviously addons has to be uploaded to the server, just as with any mod to any game. However, if your addon as client is making a pimped up hummer, there's no reason for all the other clients to DL it. That would cause havoc.

    ArmA Progress Updates

Might lead to lower magazine biting the ground, result: Ammos are jammed by ground and grass to mouth of magazine or resulting as magazine's mouth is twisted (if metal) or broken (if plastic) Well only Hollywood tapes their magazines, and only Hollywood attach them upside-down. You have them side by side which allows you to change mag in the fraction of time without the downsides you mention. Furthermore the AK with its long magazines are generally cumbersome for prone combat as you need to raise your torso quite a bit to get into the sights making you a bigger target and you often end up resting the gun and part of your weight on the magazine which is a Neddie-no-no.

    release over steam

Jumping in late here and will probably not contribute to the discussion with new stuff, I just want to say that I hate Steam with every fiber of my body. The fact that you have to be online and numerous updates is just one reason (well two). However I'm totally for an online distribution of the game. However the problem with this is that many publishers won't accept this since it is in direct competition with their business so a middle-way has to be reached. If I can buy an online version from a distributor for less money than boxed, I'll jump on it right away as long as they guarantee that I can re-install the game at a later stage. I always lose the boxed sets anyways, and I never re-sell my games and living in Norway it would guarantee that I get it as soon as it is released. For me, an online distribution only has upsides and the market will move here anyways.

    ArmA Progress Updates

If BIS just came up with a working title for Game2, things would be alot easier.

    ArmA Progress Updates

Hmmm, ok. I thought BIS owned the rights to game and used Codemasters to distribute it. And the deal with Codemasters lasted only for 5 years. Well thought isn't the right word. Hoped was more like it.

    ArmA Progress Updates

No way, Codemasters wouldn't like that idea. Think about it. First of all, what distribution/publisher deal is for more than 5 years when it comes to a game? Furthermore, the deal might just be that if BIS distributes themselves, Codemasters are entitled to x% of the income wich is 0. I'm sticking to my story.

    ArmA Progress Updates

So, not totally related to, but a little anyway ? Related about Bohemia with a publisher (dreaming) ? Aaah, I can't wait, you makes me suffering every day BIStaff My guess is that they'll release OFP for free so everyone can (legally) DL and play as a PR-stunt for ArmA.

    Dedicated server won't start

Never mind. I think the problem was the libs, but it didn't help. So I reinstalled everything with the libs again and it's up and running now.
  14. Inspired by the ArmA video I dug out my old OFP CDs and wanted to set up a server again. First I installed OFP and Resistance on my windows box and patched it to 1.96. I copied the OperationFlashpoint folder to the ofp folder on my linux server. Installed the dedicated server but when I try to start it with this; nohup ./server > out.txt 2> err.txt nothing happens (no error messages) and out.txt and err.txt is empty (0B). If I open the Flashpoint Preferences on my windows box, select Dedicated Server and click Start, Flashpoint Preferences just closes and I have no ghost tasks either. I remember I had a config-file earlier, where I entered maps and such, but this wasn't included in the dedicated server archive. Was this removed with some 1.90+ version? I tried looking for OFP dedicated server instructions but I can't find any so a link or some help would be appreciated. Edit: Oh and I haven't installed any addons.

    Linux server setup howto

My server won't load either. I've made a post about it here; http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=52575 I've DLed the libs and edited the ofpserver-file, but the behaviour is stil the same. Any ideas? WATCHDOG (18030): [ons jun 28 02:36:28 CEST 2006] Starting server (port 2302)... WATCHDOG (18030): [ons jun 28 02:36:28 CEST 2006] Server died, waiting to restart... I got the same thing with Direct3D HW T&L. When I changed to just Direct3D it was proper.

    Dedicated server won't start

Ok, part 3 in this self-help monologe. I try to start the server with ./ofpserver start but the server keeps crashing apperantly. When I check the log I get this; WATCHDOG (18030): [ons jun 28 02:36:28 CEST 2006] Starting server (port 2302)... WATCHDOG (18030): [ons jun 28 02:36:28 CEST 2006] Server died, waiting to restart... Dedicated server won't start

Well isn't this typical. I've been struggling with this all night and as soon as I post here, I discover the "ofpserver" file and its reference to a server.cfg that I don't have... *sigh* Edit: So where can I find one? Edit2: Nm, found a sample.cfg in the windows version

    Vegetation concealment

Sorry, but I can only say what I know from personal experience, and AI can at least shoot you through bushes without true line of sight. It happens annoyingly often and definitely needs to be fixed. Same counts for tents. In OFP nothing is more dangerous than approaching some AI soldiers in a tent or if a couple of bushes seperate you. They will always see and shoot you before you even guess they could be there. I've experienced this numerous times. Even thru buildings which is very annoying. I scout them from a hill top and see them in one end of a town. I run down on the opposite side, covered by buildings and blam, I take one to the teeth. From the "deathcam" I see him with two buildings between us. This was before Resistance though, so it might be an old bug.
  21. Hate to be Mr. Negative here but considering that they just got a publisher (if that is confirmed?), they need to do some pre-sale activities such as media coverage, public beta, demos and such so I belive they're aiming at a november release to get the xmas sales. Summertime isn't exactly the peak of software-sales. Hopefully we'll see some demoes and more publicity during the summer though.

    I'm confused

I'm a bit confused with "all" the releases from BIS. This year they'll launch an updated version of OFP, but is that Armed Assault? If so, what is "OFP2" called?
  23. rekrul

Will ofp2 look like americas army?

And houses you don't fall thru the floor and gets stuck in.

    Flashpoint 2 at e3

So any news on that interview? Waiting for new games seems like it has developed into a hobby now. OFP2, HL2, Matrix Online, etc. I know that OFP2 isn't supposed to come out before something like Q105, but still, any news/info would be welcomed.
