I second that. I don't give a damn about little videos showing reloading animations or if a blackhawk gunner holds the gun correctly when it turns . Hear, hear! I can't belive this are the requests people are comming with. Personally I would take a 50 vs 50 battle, sit my ass in a chopper and watch the battle unfold. Here people are checking if the zipper-animations are in sync and if the velcro sound are realistic. What a bummer this thread must be for the devs. It's like "Hey guys, I bought a new car!" "Cool! Can you take picture of the tire patterns!" "NO! Take a video from the glove compartment!" "Record you honking the horn!" "THE FLOORMATS SUCKS ASS! I HATE YOUR CAR!" Edit: Kudos to Shadak anyways! You must be a very patient man, Shadak.

We have to look out for the Apache indians in the San Andres pass!

The uploadspeed is estimated to 32kbps. To get some more definate data, we need someone with ArmA to come in here. As for the DL bandwidth, we don't know. I would assume that if you are connected to a server with 10 players you get less than one with 64, but this is not proportional. It depends on the number of active units in play as it doesn't impact the bw wether there is an AI or human soldier moving around. It's still the same data, but there is likely to be more talking and maybe voice when there are more human players than less. All in all I would guess the DL bw would depend on the number of units in the mission and a slightly increase per human player connected.

Gjallar.no will be hosting one as soon as soon as a linux-version is out. (Please don't discuss linux dedicated server dates or similar here.)
-
Is this official? If so, it's annoying to see BIS/publisher make the same error again. A majority of dedicated servers are ran on linux, and there's numerous minor releases that has faced online death due to this. Part of CS' huge success in the early days was because they released linux versions at the same time and a majority of the servers were linux.
-
God, I hope there'll be a dedicated linux-server at launch date...
-
Noone knows, but I doubt that BIS will want to maintain 3 ArmAs. Besides the game is probably made up so the language is in one file and any updates won't affect this file except maybe new missions or similar.

I don't think that list is complete. Norway isn't on that list but they accept my order from Norway... Seems to be only EU countries there. Which would exclude Norway, wouldn't it? From the list, yes - but not from shipping...

Problem with uniforms is probably same as with skins on FPS. It can be changed locally so everyone has a bright color and can be easily seen. Put bright red on enemy and bright blue on friendly and you'll have no surprises.

Could be kinda tough to find out what you're supposed to do, or don't do though. Here's your mission; "xcyvzccyxcyxz vcxz vy z vcxvyc vcz vc xzvycz vxcyzvcyxz" Now click start and get to it! No need to be sarcastic. The game has english lector with native subtitles but i forgot about briefings Look like you'll have to wait up to 5 months longer then me Not really. I pre-ordered the german version, and I'm pretty confident that there'll be a community .pbo with english text. Either that or try to get the one from beta which is in english. If not, german is more understandable than czech or polish. Guess I have to dig out the old german porn to brush up my german.

Yea! I'm surprised that Atari didn't pick this one up! Are you serious?! Thank God Atari didn't touch this one. On one side it would've been released 6 months ago, but has Atari released a single game that was actually ready for release? Every single game they've touched has been released with tons of bugs and max 70% done. Various Matrix games, Driv3r and so on. Sheesh.

There's no sound here, right? Also, why is Jim Carey on the battlefield?
-
Just make sure that we can have both the game and demo installed at the same time. We who are fanatics and want to recruit has to play with potentials on the demo as they probably don't want to pay for a german version and we don't want to wait for the english one. :P

This should be a multiple option choice. Cause I've pre-ordered from amazon.de and will pray for an english.pbo but since a pirated version probably will be out before I get it, I'll dl that meanwhile. If an english online version (not warez) is avail before amazon.de ships, I'll cancel amazon.de and the warez version.

Not sure if it's sarcasm or not, since these numbers are based completly on estimates. Since Placebo took an estimate from OFP:Elite where they have 32kbps per player and couldn't give a certain number on ArmA himself, we will assume that ArmA will be in that area. My 5-10% margin might be insufficient but hard to tell without a realtime sniff of the traffic-pattern of a busy battlefield and since I'm not a part of the beta, I can't tell how far I'm off but I'd be surpised if you need more than 10% on a max-server. For small servers (few players) this might be higher since administrative traffic will have a bigger piece of the pie than gamedata compared to a big server (50-100 players). Also note that I didn't take mission-downloading into consideration. If you live on the edge, bandwidth wise, big missions might take some time to download but it won't have a direct impact on gameplay.

The bad thing about this is that they miss the xmas sales. Also I hope the other countries will release with english language.

Again I don't see how ISDN is better than ADSL here. Either way, you'll probably need 32kbps*# of players you want on your server. Add 5-10% on top of that for administrative traffic, bursty traffic, etc as a minimum.

I guess it's a matter of economics. Pubslihers want a big slice of the pie and I guess since BIS hasn't been in the market for a while and isn't exactly on the A-list of developers, they didn't get a fair deal. I think it's half-experiment for their game2. If they can make good money on ArmA with online distribution they're strong in a meeting with a publisher for game2. Maybe Arma will be such a big success that they'll go for the same solution on game2 as well. It's definetly the way the market is going. However, I'm a bit worried about the marketing though and how they indend to reach the large masses. There's certainly not as much money to gather from a niche-market.

To clear up misunderstandings, a client doesn't need 32kbps*number of players of bandwidth. The server will collect all data and send it to you. It's not like you'll get 32kbps from player A, 32kbps from player B, and so on as a client. The interesting part would be how much data the server sends to the clients when it has e.g. 64 clients.
