ARMA2 not using avaialable resources on high end systems
rekrul replied to DarkBytes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
As for CPU, it seems pretty correct. You have 4 cores and with 8 diagnostic windows, adding those up, fully loaded would mean 400% while yours seems to be ~375%. (You can't get 100% on all 8 since you only have 4 cores.) As for the GPUs, I agree. Have you tried the new Catalyst 9.7 beta drivers? They improved my performance. -
With the new 9.7 catalyst beta drivers and win7 I get crossfire running without -winxp patch and I get better performance than earlier. Havent tried the 9.7 drivers in XP though.

I don't get any conversation options with civilians in Campaign
rekrul replied to ricnunes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
There are only a few civvies that you actually can talk to. When I rescued the woman in the barn, I got two choices when approaching her and it went automatically from there. The 3 tied-up guys in there where alive but I couldn't talk or rescue them so I don't think you can interact with them. -
Sigh - Secure Rom issues with Windows 7 x64?
rekrul replied to Totality's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Are you running daemon-tools or similar? Try disabling it as I know some copy-protection tilts hard because of this. I'm running win7 x64 with the 505 DVD with no problems. Also, if the gamecopyworld patch works fine, what's the problem? -
Multiplayer lag/stutter on moving objects
rekrul replied to Snowwhite's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I believe the problem lies within the netcode. If I remember correctly back in OFP days, the warping was absolutely horrendous but improved a lot when they dropped the directx netcode that I can't remember as well. Seems like BIS is either missing or has bad prediction code or there are too many animations for it to keep track of. If I remember correctly, this warping doesn't appear when looking at the map and seeing enemy units there. -
I might be off here, but I think the purpose of this thread is to inform of the bug-tracker where you can submit bug-reports that BIS reviews. There are nice tutorials there and information on how to submit a bug-report as well as in the OP. This thread isn't a bug-reporting thread AFAIK.

Dizza: Use the UAV to take out any armour you can, then use arty. I didn't have arty so I had to steal an RPG and try a million times to take out the T-72. :)

There's a key you can set to raise weapon but I just click LMB and he pulls the weapon up to shoot (without actually shooting).

What's your specs Rogue? I installed Win7 x64 on my PC and with -winxp the crossfire is enabled everytime I start up. There's not a alot of improvement though. If I'm in the forrest east of the main insurgent camp in Manhattan I got 21 FPS and if I turned around I got 0.5 FPS with Normal settings and 6k view distance (same as on XP). If I reduced the view distance I got maybe 25 FPS and then it dropped to 10-15 when turning around. Seems to me that there's something funky going on with the stream engine. Why render a ton of stuff I don't see? Also, when I go to the same spot in editor (just me there) I get 60 FPS (v-sync enabled) and it drops to ~40 when turning. Without crossfire it's ~50 and drops to 30. Everything is set to Normal except videomemory which is high (I have 1GB DDR5 but setting it to very high didn't have any impact). Oh and my resolution is 1680x1050. Anyways, this seems very weird. With a ton of units I don't see (since I'm in the middle of the forrest) the FPS drops to 1/3rd? In the editor I jumped in a chopper on the NE airstrip and flew around. I get FPS from ~50 down to ~10. It's these drops that really seem to kill it and I suspect it is due to texture loading. Edit: Btw my HW for those who don't want to backtrack: Q9550 @ 2.83GHz, 4GB RAM, 2x4890.

Meh, I collected one evidence when I escorted the lady out with the chopper, then I found the other one on Nikitin but I never got credit for it. I assume the signed op-orders are counted as evidence (normally)? Weird things happened here though. He was hiding inside the ins factory so I couldn't shoot him, but I ran to the tank and then he got up and ran. Unfortunately my AIs don't see him at all so several times he slaughters my guys without them even returning fire. If I shoot him and talk to him, nothing happens. I even heal him but he's still withering around on the ground so I have to kill him. When that happens I report that I he is the leader, I found some sideorders and it's the most incoherent conversation ever. When I search him, I get a replay of it but no credit for evidence. If I shoot and kill him from the tank (without talking to him) it's the same thing but still no evidence. When I reported back the mission ended though which is better than many people here I suppose.

I didn't find a way to report the bug in the Wiki (God, I suck), which probably automatically disqualifies me ;) but I'll try here in hope for some copy'n'paste magic. If anyone does, please give me the ticket number and I'll track it if further info/testing is needing. --- Saving campaign when My Documents are not local takes too long If you have My Documents targeted to a NAS (or I guess another PC/Server) it takes 3-4 minutes to save a game. STR * Go to desktop * Right click My Documents -> Properties -> Set target to NAS e.g. \\MyNAS\MyUser\ NB! Note that this will move your folder to the NAS, take a backup first to make sure you don't click wrong and wipe everything in My Documents! * Start up Arma2 and enter campaign (a saved game like Manhattan f.ex.) * Save game Result seen: For me it takes pretty consistently 3 minutes ~30 seconds to save Desired result: Should take the same time as saving it locally Hardware: Q9550 @ 2.83Ghz, 4 GB RAM, 2 x 4890, GE network card (integrated), WinXP Pro (english), NAS is a TS-209 with GE LAN port connected to ZyXEL GS-105 (GE unmanaged switch). Coping the savegame from NAS to PC takes approx 3 secs.

Destroy the chDKZ base. **POSSIBLE SPOLIERS**
rekrul replied to bigleo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
In the bug-tracking list they mention it as a bug where you use chopper twice it removes all support. This has been fixed in the next patch that we don't know when is coming. As for boomerang, it seems to be the LAV outside Manhattan. However I never got to use it as I was briefed on. When I run towards the enemy camp, I radio it in way before I see it (impossible to see it since I have like a million trees between me and the camp) and I get orders to not engage until Boomerang is there. (0-0-1 to call in Boomerang) They also mention artillery - Mike at 0-0-5 but I only have boomerang at 0-0. After a few minutes, boomerang radios in and I can engage but they're fodder to the T-72. I got the BMP with the UAV but never got a shot at the T-72 and apparently after you spot the camps, the UAV crashes. When this happened, the UAV had no altitude set (I got an auto-save during UAV scounting) and I can't right click out of it so I just have to wait until it flies into ground. Anyways, now I'm struggling with the T-72 and no artillery. If I hit it from the side (or atleast I think I do) they're still in there, and pretty mad too. One time it insta-shot me in the face before the rocket even made it to the tank so my tank is obviously inhabited by a ninja/Matrix-crew. I've killed all of the soldiers so I only have two nests and one tank left. I stole an RPG but only have HE rockets. Yay. What kind of FOB armory doesn't have Javelin or atleast M136s, by the way? -
Can't we do both? :) Seriously though, many of us are quite used to new releases from BIS and can live with the bugs, the crashes, and so on and we know it will be resolved in a 6-12 months timespan, it's just that many of us invested a lot of dough into new HW to get better performance and don't. None of us are really asking for 120 FPS with maximum settings, most are trying to get a playable experience (20-30 FPS) with kickass HW and that isn't too much to ask for. The unfortunate situation this creates is that many new players think "screw this" and move on to other games or doesn't buy it at all.

Mine is that it takes me 3-4 minutes to save since my documents are located at a NAS.

How do you activate the UAV?????
rekrul replied to Dubliner's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I have never used the terminal, I use action on the soldier next to it. On the lopotovovoevo mission it's the antenna box in starforce 21 base and the single soldier standing there. On Manhattan, it's the box behind the first intel guy and the soldier is an engineer and usually talking to someone. Same business, just action menu on him and UAV. -
Find and capture Lopotev mission help
rekrul replied to -C4-Draeger-OwP-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
This is how I found Bardak, however I had to try several times. On my unsuccessful attempts I went to see Olegi that the other intel guy talks about, I then defended his village, he sends back to powerplant, then I'm sent to another village but didn't find the quarry and ran out of time. Second attempt I just ran up to the powerplant but as someone said here, you have to do it in proper order for it to work. I went up to the quarry right next to it, short firefight and I'm left clueless. I tried to head up north but there I meet a crack elite unit of superninjas that appear as friendlies but they still shoot me in the head from 500m away the millisecond I step out of the humvee. I've also checked the north-western camp and killed the baddies there but found nothing in the tents. I snuck up on them too so he couldn't have ran due to us but since it is dynamic it's just a matter of luck I guess. -
I have Quad core Q9550 @ 2.83GHz, 4GB RAM and 2 x 4890 (crossfire not working) and I get 40-60 FPS on the intro and 1-21FPS in the woods with Normal/high settings. The graphics are fine but I would like to get 20+ FPS and really long view distance.

I experienced this in arma1 but haven't tested it in 2 yet.

I don't have those options with CCC. Are you using some old ATI tray thing? Edit: One thing I noticed though, in CCC it says primary adapter and disabled adapter. I don't know if it says that because I'm in desktop or because the other card is in slave mode? Also I have a quadcore 2.85GHz CPU and a 750W PSU so it shouldn't be a problem...

Haha LoWang, please don't pay attention to cartier - I seriously hope he was kidding. Unfortunately, BIS is well renowned for their bugs, and most of us are used to script-, physics- and clipping bugs to the point where we're pretty immune to them. I didn't experience any of those bugs myself, apart from falling of the hangar but that is a small comfort. The game is great but you have to learn to chew through the bugs. I guess since the core of the game (and military in general) is adaptation, most of us regard it as an extra challenge. The patches that are coming the following months will help alot but usually it won't be like other games (meaning minor bugs) until 9-12 months from the Morphicon release. Mods will add a ton of extra content though so it's just a matter of patience, dicipline and grinding it through. Good luck. :)

Sorry if this is a re-run but I tried searching. When playing campaign, saving the game takes pretty much 3 mins 30 secs for me. Is this normal? It's frikkin annoying.
-
Same here. I'm running WinXp with 2x4890 and I've tried -winxp, AI to advanced and rename to crysis.exe, but I get the same FPS numbers with or without crossfire... Edit: Also, I can't for the life of me find the fillrate setting? Edit2: Played around with some settings in CCC and now I get an ATI crossfire logo in top right corner when they're running in crossfire, still no improvement. :(

Well, I think I know what it is. I have "My Documents" on the NAS instead of locally. I guess that could confuse Arma. Although I have gig network with just a (gig) switch between the NAS and the PC so it's not the speed so I don't understand why Arma would be confused over it. The savegames are only ~50MB. Edit: I meant it would be pointless since it's basically Windows and Arma2 on the PC so the fragmentation would be limited.

This has happened on every mission so far (almost finished with Manhattan). My current specs are Intel Duo 3 GHz, 2GB RAM, 8800 GTS, ATA disk, running XP which was installed 4-5 months ago. The PC is only used for Arma, Arma2 and watching movies. No other hickup except for this one. Defrag would be pointless as only 20% or so of the disk is used. I'm currently upgrading it (as we speak actually) to Quad 2.8GHz, 2x4890 (but apparently I'm missing the cable to make it xfire) and total of 4GB RAM (which I guess XP won't recognize all of). I'll keep you updating.

Trouble with Mission "find Lobotev and Bardak"
rekrul replied to MerlinCH's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I'm not sure if it's a bug, but I was following the lead up the east coast and got up to a klick south of Nichnoye, weird things happened. If I drove on the road, I would be RPGed by unseen forces every time. So I went offroad, and every now and then I would see armed men running towards me. They came up as friendly but look like chedskies (sp?). As soon as I step out of the car *smack* in the head. Even from 500m away. One time I was in the city west of Nichnoye and the ran past the car. As soon as I got - headshot. The others would then get out as well and were untouched. Anyone been up there? I was thinking of checking the lumber mill but can never get there.
