Tilt 90 degrees to the side and pull back (as in nose up) before landing, this will bleed off a lot of speed. You gotta develop a feel for how many degrees you want to tilt and for how long to not bleed off so much speed that you smash to the ground and you don't want it too shallow so you rocket up in the air as a huge AA beacon.

Laggy: did you play aq? If so, read my nick backwords and pm me. :)

What's the sign you play too much ArmA?
rekrul replied to Michael Withstand's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I remember back in the ofp days when I kept thinking "if I were a sniper, where would i hide" when walking home. This later paid off in the military when i kept thinking "what would i do if we were ambushed now?". -
Has anyone done any similar work for OA so lazy me can just get an updated file-list of what files to put in my RAM-disk? :) Or have they actually compiled a x64 version of the game? (I'm still waiting for play.com to ship mine.)

You can pre-order from cdon.com, but I don't know if they ship worldwide. As soon as I go to cdon.com, I'm redirected to cdon.no so you have to check yourself. http://cdon.com

The greatest ARMA 2 experience I have ever had.
rekrul replied to Sky999's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
This is just a copy'n'paste from a post I made at another forum. Last night I was playing MP on a server with only 4-5 players most of them useless. Our next objective is to clear a rather big city I fly in low and fast as the city is ~8km away from our base. I land about 1.5km N of the city, in the cover of a rather big hill. There are two Tungska's (AA tanks) in town that we need to take out first. I go up the hill and I observe the city. From what I can see, there are 2-3 T-72s (later turned out to be T-90), atleast 5 APCs and something like 8-9 10 man squads. Luckily we have two cobras in base so once the AA is out, it should be easier. I finally spot the AA tank and it's 500m away. I take out my AT weapon and fire. I'm not sure if I hit but it doesn't blow. AI doesn't react at all. I open fire on two squads who are about 6-700m away. They drop and engage. The APCs come to their assistance and all hell breaks lose. I run back to chopper and fly back as I only have one AT rocket. Reload and I put some extra weapons in the chopper (like the .50 sniper rifle) and fly back. Offload the cargo and head back up the hill. I take out the AA tank and get the M107 (.50 sniper). Run back and encounter a teammate with an MP5 (clevar!). Tell him that I have an extra gun which he picks up. We run back up the hill and I lose my teammate in the woods. No loss really. I open up and take out a few guys, relocate, rinse and repeat. Enemy AI has hard time finding me as I'm 7-800m away. I don't know what the other guy was doing but suddenly all hell breaks lose and there is massive fire coming our way. LMG, HMG and 40mm. I pull back over the hill and fishhook back to set up an ambush if I had anyone on my tail. My clever teammate decided to hold the hill for whatever reason. At that point, enemy mortars the hill (!! I didn't even know it was scripted in the mission) and there's a massive 30s bombardment where he dies. Since I'm several hundreds meters away, I'm fine. I backtrack and cross my LZ as I hear a friendly chopper coming in. Since I had recon'd the LZ and marked in on map I yell "it's only safe if you come in low!" but to no avail. Everything with a gun opens up on him, but he somehow manages to land the thing, close to my LZ. As I run up the opposite hill that was bombarded, he yells that he's injured. As I move up on top of the next hill, I hear engines and I see an APC moving towards the crash site and I report it in. Then I see another APC and a T90. I report it in. My bleeding comrade reports back "This is gonna hurt lol". One APC decides to repeatedly bang into a steep hillside while the others goes around. The T90 opens up and fires a grenade at something, pushes on and blasts again and the chopper explodes. The guy is still alive so I figured I should catch their attention so he had some chance. The APC stuck by the hillside was now more or less parked and it was wheeled (not tracked) so I shoot at the tires with my .50. They don't see me but someone from the city is shooting at me. It doesn't take long until the rest has my position and all hell breaks lose again. I'm out of smoke grens so I leg it while bullets are whistling past me. I wasn't far from the top and I had tree cover so once again I make it but now I have 2 APCs and a T-90 on my tail, meanwhile the other guy got killed. I push west and tell the others that I've got a small army after me but the engine noises goes from faint to gone and a friendly chopper comes in, takes fire and they eject in midair (with parachutes). I was in dense forest and this was veteran mode so there's no marker on me (you have to ID your target) so this was no rescue mission. About 30 secs after they land in their chutes there's massive fire and they're killed. Guess they found the search party. I continue to push WSW and I guess I'm now about 3km away from the city and change bearings to SE towards a hill about 2km NW of town. As I cross an open field in the middle of nowhere, I hear "fomp, fomp, fomp" - the unmistakenly sound of 40mms being fired and engines starting up. I immediately do 180 and run towards the forest as the 40mm lands where I was previously running and a HMG opens up on me, tearing up the ground around me. fump, fump again, I change direction and I now have some trees around me. Tracer from the .50 passes inches from my head and impacts in the tree 1.5m ahead and to my right with the 40mms going off behind. It was one of the most intense moments I've ever had in A2. Once again I make it to safety as trees behind me takes a beating. -
They've already said that it will be at a reduced price (for everyone) so you get both 1) and 2). :P

While we're at it, we might as well start asking for a x128 version as well so we get it before 2020. ;)

I agree. With the increased RAM amounts the PCs comes with now people HAVE to use 64-bits.

I'm running W7 and I can see that all 4 cores are utilized in the task manager.

A rant about a severe lack of basic features.
rekrul replied to Rayers12's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Uhm guys? Constructive criticism is what developers need. If there's a lot of threads about crappy LOD switching, then it means that many people would like this improved. Bugfixing is in reality a popularity contest. -
It's a standalone game where you don't need arma2, if that's what you're asking about.
-
Me neither. But I do have the same white flashes with a 4890 1GB as well. I don't think it's a bug though, I think it's a placeholder until the texture is read and since it delays it's probably read the HDD.
-
No. First of, it isn't him @3:19 and secondly he just acknowledged that he was hit and out of the game.

I was away when the 1.05 patch came and had completely forgot about the Apache and haven't played much lately. Either way, finally got to test it and I can't see any advantages over the Cobra. * Apache has the same weapons as Cobra minus the Sidewinder * Apache feels less agile than Cobra I guess the Apache has 30mm instead of 20mm cannon (?) but that's it? Why would I use the Apache over Cobra? I was hoping the Apache had FLIR but I can't find it.
-
What missiles are the lasers used with? Could I use the current Apache with an LTD on the ground?
-
That isn't very likely to happen. Maybe they'll pull resources for the 360 but I think it will be very hard to make something like Arma2 on the 360, it would be a very reduced version. I do believe the PS3 would be better, but then they would (hopefully) hire in a team of PS3 coders and have BIS producers on it. The upside for that one is that they would have to code a new engine from scratch. Either way, BIS has pretty much stated that they won't do anything on console before the money is on the table. That means that a producer has to hire BIS to make Arma2 (or similar) on the console and I doubt that will happen. The game is hardly a blip on PC radar and generally the console crowd isn't credited with much when it comes to really advanced games. The biggest selling titles on PS3 are arcade shooters and exclusive games funded by Sony. I would think it's similar on the 360. Edit: Also, BIS has pretty much stated in some interview that OA will the last in its genre.
-
Yeah that will happen around the time when linux install base is higher on desktop PCs than Windows...There's no doubt that the console market is bigger, especially for the big titles but the PC market isn't used to selling less than consoles. Ridiculous DRMs is biting back and actually giving paying customers a worse product than the free and illegal ones. Services like Steam (and Sprocket I guess) will be dominant and you'll see more pure online games with servers hosted by developers/publishers and probably a small monthly fee. Think small-scale WoW...

If you think CM made a profit here, you're crazier than Sion. CM spent a lot of monies on this project, the sales were horrible as they advertised it as a hardcore sim - which it wasn't - and scaring off those who didn't want a hardcore sim. I guess that since the sales were so low, the DLC were hurting and there was no need in beating a dead horse. It would be interesting to see where they failed. Was the product the way they planned? If yes, why? If not, why not?

How to get enemy vehicles informing each others?
rekrul posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I have a problem (I think) with a mission I'm working on. I've placed some of the insurgent trucks with the 20mm (or something) cannon in neighboring towns of Vyshnoye as AA defense. I want everyone to know the location of the chopper if one of the enemy spots them. Currently if one guy spots us, noone else knows. I guess I could make a general or similar and group them all together, but wouldn't that make them move and attack together as well? I've currently init'ed them with "doStop this" so they're stationary, which is fine, but I would like them to reveal the chopper to each other. -

Awesome, thanks! -
Do you know the numbers for the PS3? I'm sure console-users wouldn't mind normal or maybe even low textures. I know that the PS3 (and 360) has problems with their gfx cards and RAM but if you look at some of the PS3 exclusive titles they can be quite impressive. Also I believe the PS3 has a lot more CPU power if the cell processors are used properly, but that might not be applicable in such a game (?) and ofcourse, they all come with BD and HDD. Finally I would like to say that BIS basically said they would do it if the financial will to do it is present as they obviously won't do it alone. I doubt it will ever be financially wise to launch a niche-game of this scale to a console. Now for the iphone on the other hand... :p

Although mentioned in more words previously, the learning curve for both the game and the scripting is quite steep but this is due to the massive flexibility you have in the game. If you're motivated to push through that, you most likely will love it. If you want it for 10 minute action-sessions or don't "put the effort in" you'll hate it and then all the little things like the voice-acting, the bugs, the radio comms, performance, etc will drive you nuts.

Reload, Hand Signs, and Wounded Animations
rekrul replied to Karimloo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Weird, I've never seen it in any of the games.
