  1. The fact that the conversation has gone so far into absurdity is rather telling. Gore up to the level of someone's head being evolved into the preverbial watermelon has no place in the ArmA series. Gore and wounds that add to the simulation is all well and dandy, and welcome to an extent, but you need to weight up between what adds to the game, and what is just pointless eye candy, not to mention something that pushes the game's rating into 18+ bracket, and cutting a key gaming demographic out of your final sales (in technicality).

Also consider your engagement ranges in ArmA. Half the stuff presented here bears no merit or useful addition to a game when a high proportion of the people you shoot are far beyond the scope of being able to assertain if they're anything more than dead or alive, let alone if his right ear lobe happened to turn into a 3am kebab. On a personal level I've never stopped to look at whatever enemy I may have shot to take notice if the bullet hole happens to be positioned exactly where I aimed, I couldn't care less, and neither do most of you. At the scale of the ArmA verse, its such a small and insignificant detail, one that after the first week of the pro-camp here playing 'shoot a cock' with their poor digital lab rats, is more than likely forgotten. Truely useful and important additions, such as the physics changes are fundamental and long lasting, unlike the lab rat's man sack.

Completely agree. Whats more, Rye is correct an +18 rating will have it banned in Australia.

In my real life experience the level of gore shown is less revelevant than the slipping up in pools of blood.

  2. if you cant work out how to use steam, then god knows how u got arma 2 plus the zillions of mods worked.

---------- Post added at 02:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:13 PM ----------

just like arma 2,s mod manager support? o wait there is none, you need to use a third party one like six updater! nooooooooooo

Steam enema is third party to six updater being 3rd party. SU is supported quite vigorously and anyone who claims opening SU and right clicking the mod line or preset to update or launch is a clunky UI has some difficult to define issues.

    Why you pushing steamworks monopoly?

  3. There are some MP missions (DM,CTF) bundled with the game but I don't think that anybody gives a damn about them.

Problem was they were more a like examples/templates than well designed and thoughtfull attempts at the genre. BI(s?) said themselves at A2's release that they (and the supplied Warfare) were just stepping stones for the community. With the likes of Celery and Smookie as devs now, and taking into account what Celery has been alluding to it seems a forgone conclusion that BI is actually attempting to fullfill the threads NEW title so it's now just a matter of wait and see.

Though I will add that some good PvP in the community Alpha would be a nice hook ;)

  4. What? What I simply "demand", you mean ask, is that 1) the relatively unrealistic aiming deadzone NOT be forced on all players and that 2) character movement allows for the upper body to be able to experience its full range of motion before the legs begin to turn. That is very much possible. That very much can be controlled. It's basically the same principle as the aiming deadzone, but applied to the entire upper body instead of just the arms+weapon..

Admitedly I'm looking forward to seeing this principle at work in Mechwarrior Online but not realy sure if it would mean much in A3, the difference between moving forward and shooting/viewing sideways vs shooting/viewing forwards and moving sideways? Gameplay wise it might not change much, but I'm open to the idea.

  5. That's why I use Steam... I don't have to worry about losing a disc or breaking a disc. But to each his own.

So use the BIS store instead. More money to the creator!

At any rate I will be getting at least 1 hard copy, I have no problems with taking care of them.

  6. Whats the point of playing Vanila style? Its, quick, its easy, and its the way the creator intended.

I understand why ACE is so popular but it's not like it has invaded every popular server available, it is at its core a filler for those that like a particular style of play and it covers a few areas that may have been done a little better, and personaly I realy like a few of the things ACE does and realy dislike a few things ACE does. But I hope BIS is focusing on making thier own game and not one just for fans of ACE. A3 will be a seperate beast to A2. This thread feels a little like the 'What mods would you like to see for A3 thread' with everyone spaming for stuff like ACE, sound, and effects MODS, like they're expecting A3 to be broken before they've seen it. The depth of the cynicism in this forum can be quite disturbing at times.

  7. The only unfortunate thing is that there doesn't appear to be any dynamic shadows. Take a look at the right side of the image, behind the hanger - the yellow light is appearing behind the wall..

Well that could be windows or the translucent quality of the fabric or because its WIP or the nature of tiny little gifs lets not be too hasty.

Anyway I'm in Thursday but it appears nobody else is , damn this time machine

  8. ArmA just doesn't have near the people playing to ever break into the PVP market. Your talking comparing ArmA series .. a used 74 VW Beetle to COD/BF3... a 2012 Ferrari. One is sluggish, clunky, leaks oil bad and always needs work definitely made for a nitch crowd and a Ferrari is a slick ,fast high profile, high dollar machine that everybody wants to be.. well except that Beetle owner that is....

lol yet another who has not only missed the point but got the comparison wrong. Beatle is every day object for the masses. Ferrari is for those can handle it.:p

  9. Interesting. I can't speak for OFP, but what about VBS? Seems that ArmA 2 is based on VBS and not the other way around.

VBS was actualy developed originaly from OFP, a member from the band Seven wich featured on the OFP soundtrack stepped up with a proposal, hence BIA, and VBS. And ever since they have been helping each other to various degrees , wich explains why ArmA incorporated many VBS functions

Personaly I have no problem with something like DayZ becoming an offical mod. Thematic 'modern military' mods are created by the community with relative ease. In fact its probably better if BIS focused on mods that were a bit thematicly different as these are the ones that often lead to expansions in engine functions wich gives the community more opportunities to mod and creates this cool creative loop.

  10. brilliant post.

I am still waiting on just ONE SINGLE reason why arma 3 should not be a steamworks game. just one reason.

    1. I don't need it

    2. I don't need it

    3. I don't need it

    4. I don't need it

    5. I don't need it

    6. I don't need it

    7. I don't need it

    8. I don't need it

    9. I don't need it

    10. I don't need it

I know who my freinds are and where to find them,I don't need it. If they arn't around I make my own fun,I don't need it. I know how to install a MOD, I don't need it. I like to keep bloatware away from my machine,I don't need it etc. etc.

Oh and just in case you dont think any of those are valid reasons, .....I don't need it, period

  11. I'll +1 on being happy with A2 vanila, and OA, and +1 on being happy with the DLC's and I like heaps of A2 mods and know that we will have mods for A3..but..

Am I the only one that thinks this is an A2 conversation in an A3 thread. Realy how can folk propose we need an A3 mod to make it worth playing.

before the game is even released ????

  12. Instagoat, wika_woo, and dcal, thank you. What an awsome suprise. Particularly liking that last pic there Instagoat, and dcal, what can I say but i cant get enough.

Further more I can tell you that the update is quite close now. I think I have addressed all the feed back I've gotten here. Just polishing a few small model issues. Short of giving a date, if I find the time, it could be days away though I'd say more likely next week or the one after.

    Chuffed

    P.B.

  13. Well I have A2/OA also on my secondrig which is just a E6600 with a GT250, and can get quite playable frames out of it so I don't doubt that your $140 will buy a card that will do the job, esp' on top of an i5 and SSD. Just keep in mind when adjusting your settings that you are after the best playable frames, not the highest possible frames when all your settings are maxed out. That would be a mistake. As for A3, that base should be good start, and I'd guess that a $140 card should do (guessing your in the states or Aus), actually I just spotted a GTX550 2GB, for a few dollars more that I might splash out on my self. Just remember what the folks around here say about video settings and you should be fine.

  14. Though I think the OPs request unrealistic, I set up a litle mission with a selction of vehicles for my kids to play about in,they race each other , fly each other about etc, and its been a blast watching them and playing with them. I've simply removed all the ammo, and set wound textures low, a respawn and keep a close eye on them. Now I know this is is a bit unconventional and understand why it isn't everyones cup of tea, but at least they have kept any default swearing such as the gasping 'fuck' when you get wounded nice and vague. On the rare occasions it pops up I can atleast convince them it's saying 'yuck' (don't know if they believe me but I'll stick to it). A little more control over such things as swearing, may sound cool, but realy it would be a waste of time. It would be unfaithfull to the game to remove wounding effects, and though I'm all for good levels of control over these things there is no way to effectively turn these into parental controls, and I dont think it should be attempted. In terms of campaigns, and story telling (wich my kids aren't allowed to touch) ArmA requires a certain level of maturity to convey some of its more prickily moments.

  15. I don't understand. Are there not enough fragfest button mashing games yet?

Oh there are enough, for sure, and I'd appreciate it if I didn't feel the need to buy one just to have a different kind of fun. And I don't believe it should be implied A3 needs to become 'one of those' in anyway short of some well designed missions out of the box. I actually went out and bought BF3 when all the ArmA PvP fun deserted my region, and I still regret it.

  16. I must really upgrade my pc, technically I shouldnt even be able to play Arma 2 with what I got now (AMD athlon II dual core 2.8 ghz cpu, Nividia geeforce gt220 gpu) What do you think I should upgrade first, the cpu or the gpu?

I have ArmA2 running quite reasonably on my second rig, E6400 dual core 2.4ghz and a gt250. Waiting to see what A3 is actualy like before buying all hardware is only worth it if you are out to run A3 at top settings, but guess what, filling that dream is just a matter of going out the day before A3 isreleased and getting whatever is on the top shelf. Reality is A3 is being develpoed with hardware that can be purchased today. If your on a buget and cant afford to buy a mid priced gaming package off some shelf then I'd focus on getting yourself a newer generation i7 or i5 cpu and a mobo from a reputable manufacturer. And building up from there as you can aford it. I doubt there is anything on any of those xtreme gaming and enthusiast mobos that you'll need. Just make sure it has some 6G sata & usb3.0 plugs for future proofing. Later when A3 is released find the GPU that hits the best price/power point and you should have yourself something that works. Then if you have the cookies a SSD would be a good way to go also.
