  2. Just wondering if anyone from BIS could let us know if there is a possibility on an update to the tools? So far the release of the ArmA2 tools are not as polished as those for ArmA1 on at least 2 major issues that i see. First there is BINpbo wich generaly feels buggy but more disapointingly doesn't remember settings like the ArmA1 release did. And secondly the make convex function in the new release of O2 translates as delete?? Its curious that a handy function such as this should break from one version to the other and has forced me to continue working with the ArmA1 tools and swap to the ArmA2 tools to finish up.

    A2 no longer benefits from 5870 crossfire

    If you want to compare to an SLI setup. When I first got my hands on A2 I was running 2 8800GT's in SLi with a E6700 dual core (gave about 20-35fps) and found there was a about a 3-7 fps increase betwen running 1 card or 2. Then I upgraded to a Q9650 CPU and my FPS jumped another 10fps. I now have a single GTX285 and run with evrything around high settings except for post process (off) and AA (med). Post Process effects are not to my taste except for screen shots, and the gain with AA is limited when runnng the game at my screens native res of 1600 x 1080, it already looks pretty good for gaming purposes, I get 40-60 fps depending on what and where.

    Any updates on the BIS tools?

    Ah must be my setup then, Vista 64 Ultimate. Like I said no problems with the previous tools. Feels like its going to be a bitch to find the answer for, I've tried fresh downloads and reinstalls, installing to various drives and fruitless poking for user info references/configs, I'm sure the problem is there somewhere. Though at least I can still work around the problems.

    Six updater, ruining everything.

    When I looked at it for the first release of ACE2 I just borked and droppped the idea. Too much time fiddling over stuff I only worry about when its fun. The second release of ACE2 has streamlined this a bit however and I think its agreat tool. I think one area though where the the whole thing went over peoples heads was the lack of any decent read-me. Its simply too much to ask people to follow some link, get dragged through a few pages and believe that all will be ok. And rightly so, people will complain less when given a good heads up of what to expext and what it is they're clicking. I know I saw the vids first time round but there was no sound , no explanation and no way of knowing what the out come was.Seemed remiss of them to me, given the outstanding quality of quantity effort they've gone too, not to include a simple one page explanation. But thankfully they kind of listened and all is well

    Ok I took the idea of destruction a bit further recently. Got it kind of working in game but ran into what is for now a show stopper. look at the bottom of this last pic and you'll see that the default depth to hide the undamaged model isnt deep enough to cover the roof supports at the top of my building. If anyone knows of a way to possibly solve this I'd appreciate the help

    +1 So Q went out with a rant and a wish list, so what? Anyone who has so much as tried to make an addon or mod would have some idea of his frustration. And he should be able to vent a litlle without attracting so much repetitous flaming. At the end of the day Q has always been helpfull to others while bringing his own fantastic ideas to life. So a simple thank you would suffice. Good luck Q with whatever you do.
  9. Great to see you guys moving on to ArmA II have always loved CSLA work. Will there be a campaign or missions included with you release? Its always good to have an imediate use for stuff of this quality.

    To answer your question, After considering the legal implications and the way most of the arma community use objects...... not realy If your serious about learning O2 or modeling in general, sure poke about other models maybe to see what they're made of, but there are plenty of free legit models out there for that, and better choice would be to pick a simple object that you think you can manage and then give it a try. You wont get praise from noobs who don't understand the difference between a rip and an effort but you'll learn heaps more on the way

    I went from a E6750 to a Q9650, the quad core alone gave about a 10FPS improvement. Not to metion the improvement everywhere else.

    Dont worry,Melbourne is on the map. Progress is a little uncertain just now as our regular fourums and server are down, but this is expected to change before Xmas. With a move to a bigger better situation. Scale is still way off anything realistic (try squeezing 7.5million sqkm into about 1600 sqkm) so its more like a very very big Australia theme park, still bigger than any map to date Keep the encouragement rolling in and we'll give you all an update as soon as we can.

    Whether or not someone bothers to make poly children for AmrA has absolutely nothing to do with censorship , gov't control, what is seen in other games, or even legal issues. Theres no way to stop a person from making it if they so desire. But I do believe that they should consider carefully the consequences and repercusions of their actions. Ever heard the saying 'No man is an island' ?. That goes double for anyone who creates material for sand box style games like ArmA. Ther is no control of who gets hold of your work, or how it is used. You can tell yourself that you wouldn't abuse it, you can tell yourself that you don't know anyone who would abuse it, but its still just a small fraction of those with ArmA installed. Is it worth helping even just one sicko to get his rocks off just once? Sure you could argue that they could possibly get thier fix somewhere else, but why would you want to make it easier for them.

    Great idea, but like its been mentioned making a decent map of someplace state side is a huge undertaking. Mostly because of the buildings required. Infact anything passing for western buildings have been in short supply for the entire series of games Maybe someone could kick start it by making a 'Red Dawn' style map populated by american style farms and a few towns? Being on the team making the map of Australia its kind of how we should have approached it,start with something smaller to test the ideas. But hind sight is always 20-20 and we've gone too far now to turn back, so keep your fingers crossed that we reach the end.

    Hmmm, I will asume that you do realize vbs2 is actualy designed for training of the people that actualy have to go out in the real world, carrying real guns. So your comment clearly shows you lack the imagination to think of what a person might be on the recieving end of, should he shoot a non entity 'polygon' child while in training. There is a reason why people are torn a new one when they shoot a 'poly child' in training , but who would be there to do it to you while you practice 'small target shooting' in your basement?? All I see here are a vocal few being dismissive of good psycological science in order to satisfy ......something, I don't realy know what. But hey no-one can stop anyone from making it, just that who would bother when so few would accept it.

    darker textures are helping with the limited shadow draw of the engine and I supose a bit more atmospheric. @ Snake Man, Mogadishu isn't on my list at the mo but looking at some pics I googled I see it could be constructed in a similar way, the main structure is quite repetitive, so it could be done with 1 curve , 1 straight, 1 pavilion straight, and a score board. If nothing has been done about it after my lsit is taken care of I might consider it. From what I've seen a lot could be done by rearanging and reworking components from my current stadium. @SAS recon, partial destruction is what I'm hoping for, but I'm not yet sure how many stages of destruction there will be.

    ADF Mod 2.0B release

    Hmmm, was poking about with this MOD this morning for no real reason and I noticed that the Tiger was a showing blue canopy and some damage texture errors. I was otherwise occupied at the time of the packs release so wasn't realy on the ball with this one. sorry.. and I can only speculate as to why it occurs as I didn't complile the larger pack. So out of curiosity I simply dropped in the last version that I had worked on, in with the rest of the MODs addons an presto no more errors. If your out there Rico I hope you don't mind me releasing this little fix, I havn't had any reply from your e-mail in awhile???
