pathetic_berserker replied to zentaos's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS : MODELLING - (O2)
Well, it may be a good idea to test this, I'm finding the magic number to be more like 25,000 verts, There seems to be some discrepancy between what O2 will swallow and what buldozer and the game (A2 atleast) will display. By the look of your screens so far (Blender?) it seems your working on your high poly version. -

Think theres other threads about, but the gist is Israeli tech has been stolen/ captured, still much to be revealed on that one. Can also see how the guys at BIS might be just a little tired of pumping out M1's etc. Nicely dreailed folks, never been a thread more deserving

I let my kids play ArmA,(I set up missions minus guns and ammo) I sneakily hid the MLP video in the bin. Don't joke.

That was my thought as well, But cant remember where I saw it. At any rate I hope that it is, because as some have already stated, I find it difficult to believe that Iran could push Nato back that far without a bit of preemtive nuking. And playing in a post nuclear environment trying to twart some other evil sounds more interesting than twarting another nuke event.

I know its not all together productive to compare to other games and engines but I thought that some of claims being made about Max Payne 3 would interest those following the thread. Particularly at 2.45 http://www.gametrailers.com/video/max-payne-3/723955 -
Unofficial developer physics demonstration
pathetic_berserker replied to Cripsis's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'm inclined to agree with Sakura _Chan, Thought I was about to see a vehicle take of like a bumble bee with all those flaping doors. And I think for what that linked video shows, the pysics is pretty good. Remember those vehicles shown were just the standard sheet steel/ panel afairs. Of course military vehicles would behave differently but I think you might be able use a similar idea though greatly simplified. I believe Rigs of road uses an underlying deformation mesh that can be assigned strenghth and ridgidity depending on area and component(correct me if I'm wrong). Though Rigs of the road is MP playable I don't think we'll see anything to that extent in the ArmA series, anytime soon. Though laying some sort of expandable foundation would be nice. The vehicle damage system needs a big overhaul in general anyway. -

To be fair it seems most artists at the mo' seem to have some nasty c@^t looking over thier shoulder screaming ORANGETEAL! ORANGETEAL! ORANGETEAL!. Not seeing any breadth of choice in mainstream visual arts these days. But thats another matter. Point is PurePAssion is absolutely right, we would not be constained to making a new modern mil sim look much like BF3 even if we used the same engines (not that we would). And BIS doesn't work with nasty c...folks that way, YAY! -

Well you guys certainly don't dissapoint. Maybe the grass color we see in clip isn't exactly what we'll see on our own comps? So the effort may not be worth it. But if i were to crit', I'd say that it isn't so much a saturation issue but balance. Personaly I'd go a wiff more blue. More forest, less gobblin if you get my drift. Should also work better against the greyer distance. -

The Elusive Stopping Power "Formula" and ArmA 3
pathetic_berserker replied to pvt_ryan's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Well arma already does this, with room for imrovement. Quite like this idea in principle, as there is infact a high number of variables in actual out comes, a system like this could be a good gaming solution to many of the factors listed in the poll. As long as the sense of lethality, a hallmark of the series remains, all would be good and it could beter reflect the reality of those rare reported cases where folks have withstood multiple rounds. I think combined with a random knock down factor that isn't directly conected with damage it could make for some realy ineresting fire fights. -

Never thought I'd say this, as I'm not an overt graphics whore. But I think the lighting realy needs to to be brought forward as a high priority. Resons already stated -
Tax the 1%ers and banks to pay for austerity?
pathetic_berserker replied to walker's topic in OFFTOPIC
Well not that i disagre with you but there are a number of solutions to that problem, 1. Write the biggest number you can think of, then walk into the next room and tell the next guy this is what your worth. 2. Tax everybody else to cover the cost. Thing is it doesn't work when nobody is prepared to lie to you ie Zimbawe, and Albania. -

tax tax havens. Don't think the human race has yet imagined an economic system that will last forever. May as well point your bones at the sky. -

Yeh removing those dependancies is a good move. I was quite taken with what you accomplished with previous versions and look forward to giving this a spin later, thanks. -
I get your point, and your right. If we only had to concern ourselves with pure soldiers theres sweet FA to be bothered about esp' condidering solutions such as Stalkers above, or Schaps' female heads for those that like the extra level of imersion. But you when take into account the attcahed poll, the topic broadens and the shortfalls of using anything other than uniformed miliatry personel for anything becomes glaringly apparent. To the point where I wonder why they bothered including unplayable civi's in the game at all. And I can't see how they could not include playable civ's in A3 if the indications are correct and there is an element of a resistance movement, and/or undercover subterfuge (wher stuff like body armour becomes problematic), and there is plenty of good factual arguments both current and historical to include females particularly in this sort of arena. And not so very good ones against the idea. Sure they could continue to drag thier feet on this and maintain the path of sidelining females except for the token background visual or cowering hostage objective. Or they could breakout from the generic looking boys club and go for something better. With some emerging competition in the mil sim arena there may not be an A4, and I don't want to wait that long to see this done Anyway I think I've pretty much run out of shit to say on the matter. A3 is still a long way off, and I'm expecting plenty of juicy stuff from BIS in the lead up. Heres hoping better character models, some variety, and females are included.
-
I'd agree there
-
Whats funny about that most is that the Liberals of Aus are the right wing option.(And yes they are capable of sticking they're head in the proverbial to) And we pride ourselves on having an Apolitical military. So your political bent is irrelevant as long you point the gun in the right direction No not all that seriously, just a quick off the cuff example. Point is it can't be done and maybe after all these years of playing OFP,A1,A2 I'd be gratefull for the option.
-
I appologise if you think my coment is offensive. But at the end of the day we each walk our own path, and yours hasn't been the first comment based on extreme personal experience that feels a little out of context with the topic. ^@darkhorse, love the pic.

I don't think anyone is saying they are the same. I just want people to cut to the chase, stick to the topic and not cloud the topic with any 'the game doesn't need them coz they're different' Of course they are different. And I would question their inclusion if the game wasn't so large or inclusive of so many areas of operation. Point is as A2 is at the moment it is impossible to even construct a mission that has say a hollywood inspired story line with say a single female secret agent. And relying on community made solutions still only goes so far largely because BIS so completely locked out civis and females from being at all usefull. So for the sake of a decent narative and furthering the cause of story telling they should be included. All the buddy buddy watch your macho chums back stuff is fine and certainly has its place, but it can get tiring for some who need a bit more motivation to play. The sim stuff will still be there and uneffected so if you want to spend a few hrs reliving the 6-7 weeks you didn't see a toilet you should still be happy

Yeah but they were there. My biggest problem with the argument against female combatants in the game is at the end of the day it does just one thing. Limit us

Mil Mi-24A Krokodil
pathetic_berserker replied to pathetic_berserker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well.. now you mention it. I am having a some trouble getting my head around some animation and config issues, I'm aiming for a similar effect on the nose gun reticule and controls to what you have achieved above. Also curious, are the rocket pods controlled directly by the pilot in the above? This is another accuracy I was hoping for, but I'm not exactly confident with my scripting/configing. Give me a couple of weeks to finish up what I can do of my pilot and gunner lods, and fix a few lose ends and I'll PM you something you can hopefully work with And thank you for the offer
