    ArmA Controller Compatible?

I have a HOTAS (one of those silly saitek ones) attached most of the time, the only trouble is when i want to fly helicopters, since then the throttle becomes the collective and thats bad since my HOTAS throttle looks and feels nothing like a collective should... too bad i cant just switch on/off joystick control ingame easily. Also when in commander view mode or editing, that darn throttle/collective gets into my way! But other than that i love flying with it .. at least the airplanes ... i still need to practice flying helicopters with HOTAS setup since i am still better at flying those with keyboard and mouse.. Ah and if you like to count some Headtracking stuff as 'controller' ... then i would recommend one of those too! (I wont get into naming brands or equivalents ;) ) Also using some steeringwheel and pedals for driving the cars is quite nice, especially with the new steeringwheel setting (ie non-centering) ... although that setting was mainly added to enhance gameplay with steeringwheels i like it even with my mouse, although i need to be sharp all the time not to crash into smth... :P Maybe one of these 99€ brainmice would be nice too.. havent tried those yet ...

    North America Release / Publisher

Dude, you miss some parts or even the whole story behind this (well let me put it bluntly) 'marketing disaster' :P ... Its due to the setup/size of BIS and politricks of publishers why you got that 'mess'. Maybe its even a cunning plan behind all this ... who knows? ;)(In short, if you want more search the forums and get your picture) Here in Germany many (also non ArmA veterans) know of ArmaII being released, maybe not exactly when but anyway there has been coverage in major game-news-sites and tv/webcast shows, also if you search the online resellers they point to morphicon or just post the date they know, i ordered mine from AmaXXXe few weeks ago. ... I am happy, few days left

    GAME Development (Texturing)

check out cityengine... google it... if that thing could be somehow made to work for creation of arma islands... whoot!

Yeah, float should be default set to high without possibility to change at all. IMO I cant imagine to play without floating anymore... let alone only crosshairs *g

    Will ArmA 2 support FreeTrack?!

Well, i will(might ;) ) get my copy of ArmaII on the 29th of May, so i will try it with FreeTrack then ... gotta use that new webcam someday for something.. never really use it for conferencing or such, hehe Its some newer logitech model and works splendid with whatever lighting i have here.. although in my cave here in a'stan it aint much bright anyway.:don 16: But i use some standard IRled as track source, seems to work fine already...' Now if FT really did somehow reverse-engineered something or parts of.. they will rot in opensource hell anyway soon ... if they just somehow got a nice way to get data from the TIR protocol then they are noble and will prosper, i mean doing it like Armalib does with arma, its kinda hack but not a crack... (No need to reply to this one, i dont care, i will do my own research anyway :P ) I also tried to use some of those highpower narrow beam LEDs, same i would use for MilesTag, but these didnt seem to work or i couldnt supply the right amount/kind of power to them... after killing a couple i stopped experimenting with them since they are too precious. reg 2nd question: Why should it be important to use both hardwares alongside? No point in it.. you use TIR or FT .. just look at the flamewars here ... why would you care about them interfereing? If you want to test both then you could still do uninstall before the other gets installed? They are both competing for the same customers sure since they are quite similiar and i see no use of using both at the same machine ... reg. 3rd question: well maybe you can still buy the track clip pro (30-50U$ right?) and use that along with a nice webcam and FT ?? I dont know right now if thats easy enough for the other users.. but its plausible nonetheless. Also some could resort to DIY friends or go to their friendly radioshack shop (well maybe not radioshack but some electronics store) and ask them to build one IR clip thingy for a small fee plus materials .. all possible and been done before. :D its working in ArmaI so its already good... although i havent explored the Armalib extension for the 6DOF, something like that was there, right? Anyone knows about using Armalib for that purpose?

Artillery, high angle used on non HE airbursts?

There can be preplotted aimpoints afaik, to have the batteries fire on if needed, the calculations are done already before enemy is in target area. Burstheight will vary the width of the affected area, think of a cone like spread from burstposition into velocity vector of shell to ground.. Not much more i can tell you right now.. but your ideas sound good however .. afaik VT is proximity, they just called it during WWII variable time for security reasons to obfusciate that its a radarsensor, also because of this the brits didnt use the VT on artilleryshells, in fear of the axis powers finding a dud and reverse engineering the radar tech.. they only used the radar fuzes in AA shells on the island.. just read that in some arty collectors forum ;) Today the naming i dont remember right now.. since i know of fuzes with time settings though ... you see obfuscating the germans still works :D

    Ai thread

But the AIchip video doesnt show really intelligent AI either, see how the 'Soldiers following a tank' break their formation to get around stuff? Be it with their tank or the others of the group, nice pathfinding but still not really 'good'. They totally go where they want/must to not crash into stuff, no matter what the orders are obviously.. Maybe they just need a main-node AI getting its way, then telling the others to follow? But clearly these little fellows go totally astray. Again it depends on what you want to achive and what commands the units get beforehand and during their endeavour, but as nice as this video is as useless this AI will become in battle, i guess. BTW: VBS2 can use Kynapse AI middleware (I think its from autodesk) soon... but for this they use an API, cannot with ArmaII ... (too many cheating possibilities i guess)

    TrackIR 5 ArmA2 Thread!

Sure, just stay up till 4am and write in sqf... every night .. for at least a fourthnight... then the visuals should happen the first time, if not then at least weird dreams, anyway keep going till it comes... or wanking and the drop command in union work very well... mjam, mjam,, mjam ... hehe always wanted to use that one Mmh... play the whole game standing? Or something inbetween? .. no seriously, would be cool, if you kinda 'duck' infront of the screen the character does the same, could be helpful avoiding the occasional shrapnel, or if shooting from behind something like a trench, wall sandbags whatever .. Something like this guy?! would be a cool addition ...

    How's ARMA2 AI shaping up?

cool idea there was ... introducing the new CoverLOD inside Oxygen.. well THAT would be really nice! :) ... well i can dream sometimes, cant i?
  10. there are some other alternatives too .. battlecenter from 6thSense or RTE are the ones that come to my mind directly.. ah and Merlin training systems or something was it called... I am quite sure the first two will be available in ArmaII some time after release.. we will see... but i am quite sure there will be ATLEAST one kind of these addons for realtime mission editing out there, if not even done inside vanilla ArmaII already!? who knows ..

    Will ArmA 2 support FreeTrack?!

I guess he means .. newer API == obfuscated protocol == no FreeTrack
  12. YEAH, mine too. Dangerous waters did also nicely, although it wasnt really a flightsim. But again from a very small developer company... And wasnt there this sub sim which could be combined with a fregate sim from some other developer?? But again nothing as compleat as we NEED ;) ...
  13. Well, VBS2 can already interface with Steelbeasts Pro, a tank simulation. But it has the needed interface and you need another Software for it. I dont know if such thing can be done via Armalib already, i know Falcon and other Flightsims can put out datavalues to another application, even via network. Basically you would need Arma to somehow translate the sent data from the Flightsim into/onto some Plane inside Arma and the other way around including the same landscape with objects and incidents happening...

    Wii head-tracking

I mean with the new 'shakey' cam, i myself wouldnt notice any lesser reaction of that headtracking thing... i am also addicted to buying last generation stuff, so i pay less... Now with the new TrackIR5 out i bet there will be many good deals on TrackIR4 around .. But i am going Freetrack anyway, asap my solderiron is good again ;P

    TrackIR 5 ArmA2 Thread!

Oh, thanks mate! Nice compliment... Thats me -->:lecture: All kind of opinions are voiced here, thats what we are here for, discussing so all do know more afterwards, its a community ie helping each other to achive more in the end... :239: Dslyecxi just showed a proper video, like the last time with ArmaI and TrackIR4 ... if you dont order with his code, he wont see a dime anyway and moreover if its a good joystick, keyboard whatnot which is specially good for using with Arma why not promote it? How should we know about it before actually buying it and maybe its not working properly with our beloved ArmaII? Now we know its working perfectly and insanely cool ... I dont think there will be any review or preview of TrackIR inside ArmaII from any of the 'regular' PC gamers magazines/sites soon, if at all.. Was his video too professional? Well, i wished more videos of games where that properly made and for some these things might even be nice work examples for their CV. Be it because of Videoediting,Scripting, Photography or whatnot. Maybe this thread should have been inside a/the Hardware forum here (dont even know if there is one here) .. i mean its not much different than others discussing what best CPU and such to buy... i myself posted a link to one of these brainmouse thingy where you control your character via brainwaves... not even with video nor code... i did this because i somehow was interested in that thing, so i also asked if someone got that 90€ something 'tool'. IF i had one i would have done a video of it too.. just because i am Graphics Designer and i like videoediting and havent much done in this field lately ... so much for reasons to spend/waste many hours of taping and editing and just coming up with a concept. OT: I mean isnt it all gamers dream to have someday so massive multiplayer experiences that all ppl writing here at the forums get together sometime (hope in the near future +-5yr) to get a huge Arma brawl going? I imagine 500vs500 or more ppl going on for a battalion strength battle .. awesome! (or what size would 500vs500 be? Division is bigger right?) And Armaxx is going to be the first game that will enable us to do exactly that... there we can duel even better with TrackIR,Brainmouse and superkeyboards ...btw i use a Razermouse... awesome!

    ArmAlib v1.0

Yes, please do a ArmaII version, i hope it aint too much work for you though... There are soo many good things coming along with more and more ppl getting it how to use this wonderfull application! Thanks kegetys! EDIT: Wow, we can now animate inside/on modeloptics as well? I.e. i could do my Javelin GUI inside the optics of the model instead of doing UI elements? Awesome!!

    My dreams about ArmA 2/3

I remember to have read somewhere from BIS when they developed the engine later known as OFP, that they planned already ahead of what actualy high-end PCs could deliver (at that time)... just think of the viewdistance slider, even back then it 'could' be set to 10000 (if you where into slideshows back then) .. setting it to 10000 is something you could do within OFP only lately with newer PCs ... so i think they (BIS Developers) are still very much into creating an engine that will tax even the next generation of CPU/GPU coming!

ArmA 2 18+ Rating in Australia?

Well, except for a few titles (which contain 'inhuman' acts) you can still get most titles here in Germany (indiziert), its just not allowed to make advertisements, or offer them for sale publicly, or sell them without proper age check (which makes online sale almost impossible)... But you were asking for australia, sry cant help with that... i just remember someone said (it was in 'Lets advertise Arma' thread) its not very well known/promoted in Australia either ...

    My dreams about ArmA 2/3

But thats exactly when the alarm clock rings and we have to get up for school .. ahm, you know what i mean ;) If we wouldnt mind playing in triangular tron like graphics then this might be possible even today... but we DO mind ... If you already tried those fluid simulations/demos with and without an additional PhysiX supporting card, its quite astonishing whats possible even today already, although still years from what our wet physics dreams are really about... PS: Nah, Einstein was more like one of those model stealing jerks, he used other ppls ideas without giving proper references!

    MK-77 Napalm

I have been playing with the MK77 and Mando Bombs in an Vietnam era setting, works superb... maybe not 'right out of the box' but still ... hell i could drop any type of ordnance with useing mando bombs just for delivery, the actual effects where from this addon here...

    TrackIR 5 ArmA2 Thread!

Hell, the author of the video just gets a few bucks IF you go via his links to buy that product with HIS promotional code, its the internet thats viral marketing... whatever... No need to buy it from there, if you buy from somewhere else i doubt he will see a single cent from Naturalpoints sales other than the ones through his link?! Still you can buy the earlier version of TrackIR for less or go the DIY route via FreeTrack and others, if you dont want to pay the price for the new stuff (hell i go for a new CPU first anyway ;) )... And if its against forum rules... thats up to the moderators ... or? On my clan forum (if i had/was in one) i would surely have trouble with others advertising on my forums for free... i would like to get a share/fee from them for sure, but since here its a BI Forum it seems ok to them. Also i am sharp enough to know if someone tries to sell anything to me, so what gives if they succed or not? It is my decision afterwards afterall..

    Hookers in ArmA II?!

Well war aint nice and every war will have, due to breakdown of legal/social life, bad crimes going on. Doesnt matter which sides are involved thats ever changing. Be it refugees being forced to hooker for food or ppl being abducted for any reason... Its tailing any war that happens, so its really a part of war and as such any mil-sim that not only depicts weapon effects but also tries to bring the madness of war across by its story or setting. Warmovies do it all the time, be it to create the necessary 'reason' for the hero to act (like most hollywodd movies) or to portray war as being what it is, disgusting. If that will make good 'entertainment' is of course another question, but i am content with ArmaII being a anti-war game...

    How's ARMA2 AI shaping up?

Maybe press previewers are too used to their scripted/prearranged 'AI' in other shooters, so they scoff at ArmaII AI behaviour because its not what 'they' are used to. So they may make their preview publications sound more harsh than it really is, since they had more/higher expectancy?! (since its 'the' military sim) ... and now they are disappointed because 'their' dreams were not that wet as they thought they 'should' be ... but at the same time they forget to count in the other countless parts this 'game' actually has, besides other factors, and as such their view is somehow 'clouded'. This also just reflects the actual trend in journalism in general... :(
