I thought they lost one to a freak RPG hit some time ago too? Might even have been during the actual war / before the occupation. iirc the Pentagon went ballistic because they assumed that Saddam must have got hold of some toys from Russia, multi-layered HEAT warheads or the like, but it turned out that, no, it was just a VERY lucky round!

There are plenty of inane things, contradictions and ridiculous rulings in the Bible too, if you look for them. That doesn't make every Christian a pigskin-phobic, child-sacrificing nutjob though. In the same way I don't think that any particular passage in the Koran can be cited as evidence for the prosecution of terrorists.

Dunno if the forums would support such a feature (are they MySQL or whatever?) but ideally being able to limit flamers to 1 post / day for a week in the first instance, 1 post / two days for a month for persistent offenders etc. ought to nip it in the bud pretty quick and allow time for people to cool off before rejoining the fray.

It is easy and cheap to produce but you need one FRIG of a lot of castor beans! If it is some survivalist hick then it shouldn't be too hard to work out which one - just cross reference militant rednecks with bulk castor bean purchases.

Tasers.

Well, ricin doesn't really have an `infectious dose'. It's basically a poison so the question is did you inhale enough to cause morbidity/mortality. Unless the air is pretty thick with it or you're exposed for a long period it's unlikely that you will. The real danger is if people don't realise they've been exposed and get it on their fingers and later transfer it to their mouth. Or get it in a cut.
-
Fat lot of good that'll do. Ricin's a toxin, not an organism, you could irradiate the arse off it and it'd still be patent.

Some of them are pretty bulky.

No. I think he's a pillock. One'll get you 20 of anything you like!!!

Only thing to be done with the kind of arrogant, talentless sh**s who mistake denigration for criticism is, as has already been suggested, to ignore them. iiwy I'd add anyone who's rude about a BAS addon to your `ignore' list (I'm assuming these forums have an `ignore' facility though I dunno). That way, you won't have to listen to them and they lose out on getting support for addons or any other tech probs in the future. For every one that you ignore, three will take their place of course, but that can't be helped. NB: If you did do this you prob'ly ought to put a nice obvious statement somewhere on the BAS site about it or you'll suddenly find you have a reputation for ignoring addon users!

I found the FDF missions a disappointment too, I'd really been looking forward to them. The early ones were pretty good, before it all kicks off but most of the later ones just felt like anonymous brawls that all merge together in the memory. lmao the first time I heard the soldiers going `blah blah' in Marge Simpson's voice though. Some of the single missions were okay but, bizarrely, the one I found most enjoyable was the UAV training mission! Some of the others were just too random. Mind you, for a classic game OFP has a lot of very, very s**t missions when you think about it. Most of which would be a lot less frustrating and dull if it wasn't for the `one save' rule. I hope to God that OFP2 allows Quicksaves as often as desired.

I'm not sure that the threat of nuclear retaliation would stop Kim Jong Il from letting his birds fly. He's not exactly obsessed with the welfare of his people. And these ****-up dictators often have unhealthy fantasies about making grandiloquent gestures and going out in blazes of fire anyway.

And bicycles, and windsurfers ... could it actually have been MORE sophisticated than OFP???

If more than one post in four debated actual events, yeah. To extend your meteorological analogy, the weathermen have got drunk and started hitting each other with cricket bats.

God, but this thread IS a depressing read. Some days you look at it and just despair for the future of the whole human race, really you do. Reminds all of us what `irreconcilable' really means. Surely all the semantic arguments, accusations of this, that and the other, backhanded compliments etc. are better done by PM so the thread just debates the actual news and events?

OT/ Hate to do this, `cause I personally hate the idea of having armed goons on any plane I fly on too, BUT: According to the airlines and officials opposed to `sky marshals' it's unlikely that a bullet hole, or even a few bullet holes in the fuselage will crash a plane through depressurisation, even at extreme altitude. Forget Alien: Resurrection / Goldfinger, the rate of depressurisation would not be that dramatic or fatal and, provided the pilot did descend in fairly short order, no-one ought to die. The opposition is because of the potential for stray bullets to damage electronics or other vulnerable components running through the fuselage. /OT

Is your inbox filling up with mydoom virus emails?
Pipski replied to theavonlady's topic in OFFTOPIC
Weird little story, tucked away under `News In Brief' in today's Times. Says Scotland Yard are looking for the author of MyDoom because they believe that he/she were paid to write and disseminate it by a criminal gang. God alone knows why a criminal gang would pay for a global computer virus, can't really see how they benefit. But there you go. -
OFP always reminds me of an old Amiga game called `Hunter'. Think it's the island setting as much as anything. That and the freedom to wander around wherever you want. Ah, Hunter was great.
-
lmao! I don't know where the dickens you get that from! (Assuming, that is, that the 2x-ive was unintentional, otherwise quite right.)

Fastest growing religion in UK too.

Hey. I'm doing a cutscene that involves an Su25 dropping a bomb into a town square. At the start of the mission the Frogfoot flies in, in a straight line, drops his bombs and continues in a straight line. The wp just before the target area triggers a script that camcreates and drops the bombs. Trouble is, every time I run it the stupid sod drops them in slightly different places. Which is utterly useless as they only hit the town square 1 time in 10, ruining the cutscene the other 9 times. The rest of the time they go too far, or too left or too right. I have disabled AI for `Target' `Autotarget' and `Move' but this has made no difference. The plane also seems determined to fly to the left of his wp, rather than straight through it. So, the question is, how can I FORCE the plane to fly directly along it's waypoints with no deviation whatsoever? How can I be sure that the bombs will land in the same place, every ****ing time? Cheers, all suggestions gratefully received.

Lost find his sniper rifle? Thought you wanted a Brit, not a doofus!

Including the very cool modification of depressable guns - the MiG27 can depress it's cannons by a few degrees (can't remember how many) so that it can make strafing runs without losing altitude. Now imagine how much that would rule as an OFP addon ...

Maybe you can get him to write some tutorials. A tute written by a 3yr old I could probably just about get my head `round!

It's v. boring but I escaped by running back the way I came, to the North, to the coast, round the end of the fence.
