UKF Challenger 2, Version 1.0 Included: UKF_chally2.pbo Readme Requires: UKF_Misc.pbo UKF_Shared.pbo This addon will give you Woodland and Desert versions of the following; FV4034 Challenger 2. FV4034 Challenger 2 w/ Layer 1 Armour. FV4034 Challenger 2 w/ Layer2 Armour, inc RPG fencing. For various reasons this addon is incomplete, and has been released in an 'as is' state. At this point in time, there will be no future updates and fixes after the initial release. A Note on Armour Values: In real life combat situations, the Challenger 2 has been known to have taken hits from 40+ anti tank weapons (including, rumour has it, a Milan) and come out the other end without too much damage and a safe crew. It is considered by some to be the best protected tank in NATOs arsenal. However, because BIS doesn't model penetration, making the Chally able to take 48 RPG hits in ArmA2 also means it ends up taking a T72 15+ rounds to kill it, which needless to say is ridiculous. Striking a balance between gameplay, realism, and at the same time trying to compensate for BIS' crappy damage system has been a headache all along, and was one of the focuses of our now infamous internal testing. In ArmA1 we'd settled on having the Challenger easy to K kill (knock out the gun, tracks, view ports, etc), but hard to destroy. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me reproduce the same damage effects in ArmA2 - it's impossible to take out the Main Gun, for example. I am not sure whether I am missing something, or ArmA2 is, but regardless, the result is that our previous balance position is no longer tenable; you can no longer K-kill it, aside from taking out the tracks, and it just ends up being tough with no real drawbacks. I've tried to settle on a midground, where like it's real life counterpart it's not easily killable by RPGs, however it can't stand up to more than a couple of KE 120mm rounds (dependant, of course, on the version). Long story short is, I know in advance the toughness will come up for debate. It's a pointless debate to have, because you cannot model realistic armour values into this game with the current damage system. The best we can do is settle for a compromise, and i've tried to be as reasonable as possible whilst still maintaining the spirit of the beast that is the Challenger 2 - ie, one tough mother****er! Known Bugs and issues: Unfortunately there are....lots. I'm actually not going to list them, because once you notice them they'll annoy you forever :) It's best you don't see em! ;) I will actually do quick fixes (read, config updates) for any game breakers that pop up, but it should be OK. *fingers crossed* The main issue is of course, that it looks ugly as sin and could use a new model and new textures! Weapons Pack, V1.1 Following on from our addon releases last month, Project: UK Forces are back with another series of exciting updates! This time around we have versions of the long-anticipated update to the UK Weapons pack for both ArmA 2 standalone, and Operation Arrowhead/ArmA 2: Combined Operations. The major changes are the addition of rifles with the latest accessories for operations in Afghanistan including the new picatinny rail platform, and an ACOG scope provided by panda_pl and scubaman3D from the ACE mod. There are also some weapons fitted with a Surefire FA556-212 suppressor, as used by Special Forces Support Group. Other changes include improvements to the rvmats to utilise ArmA 2's DX9 "super-shaders" and detail maps, the weapons now also have shadow LODs and some of the lighting problems on the models have been fixed. Hi-Res Hi-Res The pack contains a General Purpose Machine-Gun and nineteen SA80 variants; with numerous variations on the L86A2 Light Support Weapon, L85A2 Individual Weapon and L22A2 Carbine, including different sight configurations and blank-firing adaptors for training scenarios. The UKF weapons pack is a comprehensive collection of modern British small-arms, suitable for almost all players' needs. Functionality wise, we have adapted the scripts from AAW's weapon pack with norrin's permission, to allow players to use the peep-sights on top of the SUSAT, and the Docter red-dot sight on the ACOG. We have also included handanim switching for the L123A2 UGL and bipod deployment for the LSW and GPMG; a feature you will have seen demonstrated on the L115A3 addon released a few weeks ago. The Operation Arrowhead version utilises the new weapon features added in the expansion such as: Thermal imaging maps, native sight-switching support, IR laser pointers and visible light torches. In the OA version, BIS' native support for sight switching has allowed us to adapt sight-switching script from the ArmA 2 version to control the Laser/Light Module attachment, allowing players to use both features on one weapon. UKF OP. ARROWHEAD WEAPONS PACK VERSION 1.0 This weapon pack represents UKF's first addon for the Operation Arrowhead. The core content of the pack is the same as the newly released UKF Weapon Pack Version 1.1 for ArmA 2, but this version utilises a number of the new features offered by the expansion pack to enhance the game-play experience and realism of our weapons beyond what was capable in ArmA 2. Hi-Res Hi-Res This core content includes rifles with the latest accessories for operations in Afghanistan such as the new picatinny rail platform, and an ACOG scope provided by panda_pl and scubaman3D from the ACE mod. In total the pack contains a General Purpose Machine-Gun and nineteen SA80 variants; with numerous variations on the L86A2 Light Support Weapon, L85A2 Individual Weapon and L22A2 Carbine, including different sight configurations and blank-firing adaptors for training scenarios. The sight-switching feature has been changed to utilise BIS' native support for back-up sights rather than using a scripted solution. However, the scripts have allowed us to implement both IR laser pointers and a torch for the Oerlikon LLM-01 attachment using the 'Shift+F' key-function, and the bipod folding feature is still present when the 'H' key is pressed. The weapons also have thermal imaging maps so that barrels and ejection ports will appear to heat up as the weapon fires continuously. The config has also been changed so that the pack has no dependency on ArmA 2 content that is not present in the standalone version of Operation Arrowhead. Future versions of the UKF Arrowhead Weapons Pack will include electro-optic weapon sights such as the CWS and MaxiKITE Image Intensifiers (night vision scopes), and Thermal Imaging capabilities in the form of the VIPIR-2 thermal weapon sight. Credits Chris (a/k/a Pathy) - SA80 Models, Textures, Sounds, Config & Animation. Messiah - GPMG Model & Textures. DK - RVMats and other general help. da12thMonkey - hand animations, textures and models for various weapon attachments, script integration panda_pl and Scubaman3D (ACE) - original ACOG model norrin (AAW) - bipod and sight-switching scripts. This addon requires Community Base Addon (CBA) for Extended Eventhandlers (XEH). Known Bugs and issues A few of the L96A1 models still have the "hand glitch" problem. This doesn't affect them all, however, and so they're still worth including in the release. I believe the ones that work are the Camo variants. GPMG isn't fully animated. There are a number of inherent issues with the model switching aspect of the scripts. The Abrams is the best because, as clearly stated under chapter 7.1, paragraph 3, line 10 of the Handbook of Internet Argument: "If it's American, it must be the best." As the next chapter on Unbridled Patriotism goes on to further explain, nothing is able to trump the "American Factor", no matter what attempts are made to provide facts, statistics or any other arguments contrary. It's because the JayArmA2Lib file included in the installer package isn't up to date. Try here: http://dev-heaven.net/projects/jayarma2lib/files Edit: Infact, it's just certain installer links that are out of date. Use the devheaven link, its up to date. http://dev-heaven.net/attachments/download/9341/ACRE_V1.1.0.234.exe -
I assume that this addon won't be patched to allow aircraft to fly off it till 2020? In the name of realism of course.

The sad thing is (and i'm assuming i'm welcome to join in here, since the stuffs been posted) that I (a P:UKF Dev) was the chap that LB contacted over MSN (in incident #2) with his offer of the PR mod. He was asking around for "one of the UKF guys" and got directed to me, then proceeded to offer me PRs stuff. I don't know for sure, but I think he planned to ingratiate himself with us by playing off a perceived 'rivalry' - a shame for him that he not only misjudged our character, but misjudged the nature our relationship with PR, which is in actual fact, one of mutual respect. His stated reason, for anyone interested, was 'so we could check if PR had stolen UKF stuff', something which is about as likely (sadly) as me dating Kate Beckinsale. DISCLAIMER: He was talking out of his arse. I didn't want to accept a mod I shouldn't have, so I asked for pictures of the allegedly stolen stuff, rather than take the mod on sheer hearsay. Unsurprisingly, after effectively calling his bluff, he instantly went offline on MSN and was not seen again. A few hours later, he was leaking videos in this thread and trying to hand the stuff out to his squad. Apparently, he was really very concerned about 'stolen work'. Irony? Anyway, point being that what people are saying about being open is entirely correct; here is a guy who not only is handing out videos and mods, but thought he could ingratiate himself with another mod team by playing one off against the other. I think it's perfectly sensible to warn other modders about a bad apple like this, because that to my mind is actually much worse than someone joining a mod team and making off with the addons. Here is a guy who, having been kicked out of one mod, has already shown his willingness to buzz around different mods trying to cozy up by offering "rival" products. So, i'd say it's entirely correct to warn others, if nothing more than to act as a headsup to other mod teams. ---------- Post added at 11:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:47 PM ---------- Ontopic, will there be an "MFV with Entrenching Tool" action? :D -

Oh my fucking word, you are thick skulled aren't you? How many times do we have to go over this? My example was not a real world example. It used the names of 2 real countries, which confused your simple little brain. Now, this is about the 4th time i've had to try and point this out to you, and you're getting increasingly irrelevant, and increasingly personal in your attacks. I've tried not to get personal back, but excuse me if i'm getting a little exasperated with such blatant idiocy. What you're doing is the equivalent to going into a forum where they're discussing Orcs in Lord of the Rings and shouting "Thats BS! I've never seen an Orc - they don't exist, so you're all wrong!" - technically, yes, you'd be correct, in that, no they don't exist - but thats not exactly the point of the discussion they were having, is it? If you did that, you'd look like an utter idiot for arguing the obvious & completely missing the point. Funnily enough... ...In the same way, arguing that my example is wrong because it is made up - well-fucking-done, you figured out that a made up example is made up - Want a medal? You can start going on about traveling to Russia (By the way, Russia is on my moderate list of 'have already traveled to' countries), and how in real life Russia this, and Russia that - it's besides the point, it was a fictional example, so you going out of your way to prove that everything I said was fictional infact proves nothing that wasn't already blindingly obvious. And if, at the end of the day, you're not just rejecting my fictional example, but the entire concept of PPP, then I cordially invite you to write up your thesis presenting the alternative, and send it to an economics journal for publication, because if you're right, then you've better knowledge of how global economics works than anyone else alive. Alternatively, you're just talking out of your arse.
-
Well, it was a relatively short run, but thinking about it, just right. I probably wouldn't have wanted much more! :D Great value for £12, and my hearts still racing :D

I've met economically educated people that didn't see the housing bubble coming, I've seen the same people preach that recession is over. Then I told those people to shove their theoretical thinking, and ever since I've been better off by tens of $K. A person who does not comprehend the notion that all the goods he listed will have the same price in both countries due to Globaliz(s)ation, doesn't deserve his econ. degree. If you say so. Given that you're intelligent enough to try and argue that made up figures are made up, because they don't match the real world, and intelligent enough to carry on arguing it despite clarification that they were always intended to be made up, i'd say you're intelligent enough for me to 'shove my theoretical thinking', and just listen to what you have to say instead. So, please go on. I think you were getting to the part where prices in every country in the world are the same (due to Globalisation). How about you educate us all.

-edited to be more polite. ;)That may be, but you took a post of mine which I made very clear was purely designed to illustrate with arbitrary figures why we must adjust for PPP rather than use pure GDP figures, and tried to argue why fictional made numbers are wrong. Not to worry, next time i'll use "country A" and "country B" so that it isn't too confusing for people who don't understand the concept of making up an example to demonstrate theory. :)
-
Mate, please don't tell me you're arguing why a clearly made up example using arbitrary numbers is wrong. That's just embarrassing. Why?
-
Oh god yeah,
-
Well you've contradicted yourself there, whilst getting it both wrong and right in quick succession, really. No, pure GDP cannot be used as a broad measure, if it's not adjusted to represent Per Capita and/or PPP. Its unreliable as an indicator of wealth. However, what you talk about in your second paragraph is the concept of adjusting for PPP, which produces a much more reliable indicator of wealth. So - first paragraph wrong (broad measure - no, bad, bad, a useless figure!), second paragraph correct (if we were to measure it proportionally to an average selection of goods, ie at PPP, a useful figure!) Further reading about the GDP thing, & why it is not a reliable indicator on its own - there are naturally countries where pure GDP statistics will broadly match up with expectations about standards of living. That's just the law of average and healthy coincidence popping up. However, if you start to experiment with changing the numbers involved (GDP, population, PPP), you can mathematically see why GDP on its own is a flawed measurement. Worked Example: To begin with, lets introduce 2 countries with pure GDP figures and nothing else. If we take GDP as a pure measurement of Standard of living, wealth or anything else, we are to conclude that Country B is richer. However, now lets introduce population. It should be pretty obvious on first inspection that people in Country A have higher per capita income. People in A have an income of $1bn per capita. People in Country B have an income of $18 million per capita. In actual fact, people in Country A have roughly 55 times the income of people in country B. So now, our conclusion from pure GDP is reversed; if we were to use GDP Per Capita as our value of measurement, we would conclude that Country A is better off. But...! ....To complicate matters further still, we then introduce the cost of living or Price Levels into this. We could again play with our fictional numbers enough so that Country B's inhabitants actually end up better off at PPP, despite having significantly less Income per Capita. We could make it so that although people in Country A take home 55 times what people in B take home, the cost of living in A is say, 70 times higher than in country B. Alternatively, we could make it so that the cost of living in Country A is half of that in B - making the people in Country A twice as well off again! Now, compare this to the initial conclusion based off pure GDP alone. All this is intended to illustrate that GDP on its own is worthless - GDP per Capita ain't half bad, but GDP per Capita at PPP is a much more accurate indicator. Then of course, there are all kinds of indexes you can use to add to this, but that's getting too far into the economics, and i'm already scared i've made this too complicated! To put this back in the real world, it would be wrong to see Russia with a lower GDP than the US and just assume that people in the US are better off. Now in this case, i'm sure Russia actually does have a lower standard of living, but it would be irresponsible of us to just assume that based off GDP alone - something I hope i've illustrated sufficiently well to not have to reiterate why at this point. Source: Economics Degree. ;)
-
Russia was an arbitrary choice, represented with arbitrary statistics, that aren't real and I just used them to make an example. I thought it was pretty clear what I was doing was soley making an example of why plain old GDP doesn't tell us much. In laymans terms, if you have a high income, but live in a country with a high cost of living, you're less well off than someone with a medium income, but living in a country with an extremely low cost of living. Thats why GDP adjusted for PPP is more relevant.
-
It is frikken awesome! I'm tempted to check out thier earlier games: http://www.penumbragame.com/ Similar thing I think
-
Bare in mind, people, that this is presumably not adjusted for PPP. To make a broad example with arbitrary figures, people in the US might earn on average 50k a year, but accommodation costs them 30k a year, food 10k, buying a car another 10k. In Russia, people might earn 10k a year, but accommodation costs them 1k, food 1k, a car, 1k. In our example, if we take it at face value (like the people reading into this US-GDP graph seem to be doing), the US takes in 50k, Russia takes in 10k - so the US is 5x richer, right? But in actual fact, what you've got to bare in mind that in our example, Russians can actually get more for their money, and are, at PPP, richer. So, when you look at this graph and see that X state has the same GDP as Y country, just keep in mind that GDP on it's own doesn't actually really tell you anything. All this is even before you consider GDP per capita.
